Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Recently, many black celebrities have been endorsing their favorite presidential hopeful, but endorsements aren’t the only thing black celebs are giving to the candidates. OBAMA’S POLITICAL ADVOCACY
*********
At the Tax Policy Center in September 2007, Obama blamed special interests for distorting the U.S. tax code. “We are taxing income from work at nearly twice the level that we’re taxing gains for investors,” Obama said. “We’ve lost the balance between work and wealth.”[101] His plan would eliminate taxes for senior citizens with incomes of less than $50,000 a year, repeal tax cuts said to favor the wealthy, close corporate tax loopholes and restrict offshore tax havens, and simplify filing of income tax returns by pre-filling wage and bank information already collected by the IRS.[102] Announcing his presidential campaign’s energy plan in October 2007, Obama said: “Businesses don’t own the sky, the public does, and if we want them to stop polluting it, we have to put a price on all pollution.” He proposed a cap and trade auction system to restrict carbon emissions and a 10 year program of investments in new energy sources to reduce U.S. dependence on imported oil.[103]
Obama was an early critic of Bush administration policies on Iraq.[104] On October 2, 2002, the day Bush and Congress agreed on a joint resolution authorizing the Iraq War,[105] Obama addressed the first high-profile Chicago anti-Iraq War rally in Federal Plaza,[106] saying:
I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.[107]
On March 17, 2003, the day Bush issued his 48-hour ultimatum to Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq before the U.S. invasion of Iraq,[108] Obama addressed the largest Chicago anti-Iraq War rally to date in Daley Plaza and told the crowd “It’s not too late” to stop the war, though many demonstrators conceded that war appeared inevitable.[109]
Obama sought to make his early public opposition to the Iraq War before it started a major issue, to distinguish himself from his Democratic primary rivals in his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign who supported the resolution authorizing the Iraq War,[110] and in his 2008 U.S. Presidential campaign to distinguish himself from four Democratic primary rivals who voted for the resolution authorizing the Iraq War (Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd, and former Sen. John Edwards).[111]
Speaking to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in November 2006, Obama called for a “phased redeployment of U.S. troops from Iraq” and an opening of diplomatic dialogue with Syria and Iran.[112] In a March 2007 speech to AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobby, he said that while the U.S. “should take no option, including military action, off the table, sustained and aggressive diplomacy combined with tough sanctions should be our primary means to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons.”[113] Detailing his strategy for fighting global terrorism in August 2007, Obama said “it was a terrible mistake to fail to act” against a 2005 meeting of al-Qaeda leaders that U.S. intelligence had confirmed to be taking place in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas. He said that as president he would not miss a similar opportunity, even without the support of the Pakistani government.[114]
CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN! OBAMA FOR PREZ!

ok Hilary is running not Bill, and Bills affinity for the black community was of his own doings, that had nothing to do with Hilary
Bill was the charisma, the likeablity , and ideal democratic canidate
Hilary was preceived as being controlling, calculating, untrustworthy and unapproachable
so are you gonna vote because you love you some “Brother Bill”
thats fine if you wanna vote for HIlary but please try to seperate the two because beleive it or not they are different
YOU KNOW WHAT SOME OF YOU HAVE TO BE FROM THAT CHURCH WHERE THE PASTOR CONDEMED “FICKLE NEGROS” BECAUSE SO FAR NONE OF YOU HAVE PRESENTED ON CREDIBLE ARGUMENT DETAILING HILARY’S POLICIES AND WHY YOU IDENTIFY WITH THEM !
—————————————————————————————
what did Bill do that was so great for the black community? I have heard this mentioned various times but very few people have articulated the specific policies that ultimately made the black community before off subsequent to his years in the white house. Im all for giving credit where credit is due but I think that people have a tendency to overlook some of the conservative policies that Bill enacted in addtion to all of the progressive policies that he enacted

Obama is all hype and nothing else he talk about changes but don’t give specific examples on how he will make those “changes”. It is so funny that most black people say they are not voting for him because he is black but we are clearly am. After most of you put Bush in office thinking he was god fearing and gonna stop gay marriage and ill shit like. Will we ever learn from out past mistakes, I’m starting to think we can’t.
We don’t need change we need someone to fix the shit in this country. We need someone to the job done. We need a leader. If yall think Obama is that you are seriously delusional.
Hillary get that white house and prove the doubters wrong.

This has really made me think things over…I voted for Obama, and still will on election day. I lke his stands on what he DO for our nation, not because he is a black man. I am a woman and I did not choose Clinton so what…You should not decide who you want as your president based on your race or gender!!! PEOPLE WAKE UP!!! The nation is divided enough- dont let the media make this into a race or gender election. Vote for who you think is the BEST for this nation; not black america or women equality. WAKE UP WAKE UP!!!

PLEASE ELECT MR. OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT—HERE’S WHY,
I AM PRAYING THAT MR. OBAMA WILL ABSOLUTELY BECOME THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE, PERIOD.
MR. OBAMA IS FRESH AND BRINGS A VERY HONEST, POSITIVE, PERSPECTIVE TO THE WHITE HOUSE, SOMETHING WE HAVE NOT SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME.
AMERICA, LET’S MAKE HISTORY FOR REAL…. WE STILL HAVE SOME HANKIE HEADS WHO ARE STUCK ON STUPID AND DETERMINED TO KEEP AMERICA DOWN. THEY ARE STUCK IN THE PAST, AND ALL THEY WANT IS THE OLD NONSENSE LIKE THE CLINTONS…ALSO, THEY ARE STUCK IN THE PAST FOR VERY FOOLISH REASONS LIKE STEREOTYPICAL MESS… THEY ARE A SAD BUNCH OF FOLKS AND ALL I CAN SAY IS JUMP ON THE OBAMA TRAIN WHILE IT IS ON THE TRACK BECAUSE THE RIDE WILL BE WORTH IT, AND THEY WILL BE GLAD THEY DID!
THIS COUNTRY DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE OF THE CLINTON’S, OR THE BAGGAGE THEY COME WITH. I COULD SEE IT NOW, BILL WOULD BE STUCK IN THE EAST WING GETTING ROUND THE CLOCK “B JOBS,” WHILE HILARY PARADES AROUND NOT REALLY GIVING A DAMN ABOUT NO ONE BUT HERSELF….HILARY WANTS POWER PEOPLE, NOTHING ELSE. SHE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION AND WON’T PRESENT MUCH IN THE WAY OF CHANGE…
HILARY IS SNEAKY AND SHE CANNOT NOR SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. ALSO HER HEALTHCARE PLAN IS PROMISING TO FORCE –AS IN —MAKE IT A LAW— THAT FAMILIES HAVE TO PAY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE…
I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I HAVE A HARD ENOUGH TIME JUST PAYING MY AUTO INSURANCE, SO THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD PROBABLY BE UGLY FOR SOMEONE LIKE MYSELF WHO IS JUST OPERATING ON SURVIVAL, I.E., RUNNING TO THE GAS STATION EVERY OTHER DAY, STRUGGLING TO BUY FOOD A FEW ITEMS AT A TIME, UNABLE TO FIND DECENT WORK, ETC. THE LAST THING I NEED IS SOME SNEAKY PERSON LIKE A CLINTON FORCING SOMETHING ON ME THAT I AM NOT READY FOR. DOWN WITH HILARY…SHE IS OLD NEWS…I SAY THIS DAY, OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH MR. AND MRS. OBAMA.
MR. AND MRS. OBAMA ARE PEOPLE WHO TRULY STAND FOR CHANGE AND WILL MAKE GOOD ON THEIR WORDS. THERE IS SOMETHING INFECTIOUS ABOUT THE OBAMA’S THAT WARMS MY HEART AND RENEWS MY FAITH IN THIS COUNTRY…
GOD WILL TRULY BLESS THIS MESS THAT THE OBAMA’S, AND THE REST OF US WILL HAVE TO CLEAN UP! THEN, CRIME WILL BEGIN TO DROP SLOWLY OVER TIME BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO REJOIN THIS SOCIETY THAT THEY HAVE LITERALLY BEEN KICKED AND LOCKED OUT OF, IN MOST CASES THROUGH NO FAULTH OF THIER OWN. SO LET’S STAND WITH THE OBAMA’S THIS DAY AND RUN, NOT WALK, TO PULL THE LEVER FOR THE OBAMA’S…
I LOVE AND APPRECIATE WHAT THEY HAVE ALREADY STARTED DOING IN THIS COUNTRY WHERE BRINGING PEOPLE OF ALL RACES TOGETHER. IT’S GOOD, IT’S FRESH, AND IT IS WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS.
WHAT U KNOW ABOUT THAT…feel free to hit me whether you agree or not: jaana4@yahoo.com

Okay I’m from the Bay too and last night at around 9pm the local news was reporting that several counties ran out of democrat ballots and people had to wait outside until other counties brought more ballots. I want to know how did CNN and other national news networks call Hillary as the winner with only 2% of the ballots being counted?
At 11:30 pm west coast time several people had not even voted yet (even though the polls closed at 8pm). Some counties are still counting right now so how so they know she won? and by what amount?
They claim a lot of independent voters showed up and decided to vote democrat which is buy the ran out of ballots. This girl in my class told me they wouldn’t even let her vote and she was registered.

Johnson gives to Clinton, Jordan backs Obama
DALLAS –With the 2008 presidential election in full swing, NBA players and officials are choosing sides in the wide-open contest.
But most, according to donor search engines, have given to the Democratic front-runners, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama.Republicans such as Sen. John McCain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also have received financial support from NBA-affiliated officials.
But Clinton and Obama have received the lion’s share. Clinton’s NBA connections are headed by Charlotte Bobcats owner Bob Johnson, the former BET owner who has, according to online financial records, donated to Clinton campaigns nine times since 2000, including $15,000 for her initial Senate run.
Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan, who gave Obama $10,000 for his Senate run in 2004, gave him $2,100 this time around. Another former North Carolina standout, Hawks forward Marvin Williams, contributed $1,000 to Obama. — The Philadelphia Inquirer

Exactly what was the prosperity that you claimed happened in the black community. Yes, the black middle class had a bump in the 90’s but the number don’t come close to being “properous.” The reality is the clinton’s didn’t do black shit for the black community.

Why Our Vote Matters
Friday, February 8, 2008 /
If Dr. Martin Luther King were alive today and he was running for President of the United States and his speech was the “I Have A Dream” speech — I wonder what us — the anonymous internet dwellers and self-ordained pundits of opinion — would say?
I read all the comments posted on here and could not help but imagine such a scenario. Regardless of what, how, or why you feel about Barack Obama, you cannot deny to effect he and his historical campaign are having on the country and the world. In fact the world sees more historical value in him than many of us do.
Last Sunday I attended a rally for Senator Obama in Los Angeles at the UCLA campus. Obama was not present, but Oprah Winfrey, Caroline Kennedy, Michelle Obama and Maria Shriver were. First hand account: the line not only wrapped around the stadium, it was so long it could have wrapped around the building twice, if not three times. The energy in the air was electrifying. People represented all ages, all races, all genders. In fact there were so many men present, of all races, that you would have thought they were there to attend a college game. But they weren’t. And if you read this and assume it was due to Oprah — perhaps for some, but judging by the “Yes We Can” chants that rang out hours before anyone ever took the stage, I’d say most people were there because we see and will vote Barack Obama as the next President of The UNITED States of America.
I have been following the issues and the campaign closely and have based my decision on the fact that Senator Obama has the one quality that I find lacking in all Candidates that I expect in a leader: vision. He has not changed his stance on any of his issues during this campaign. However, I have noticed Hilliary has changed up her style and tone [less aggressive, more human] and is now the “change” candidate. Followers who want to be leaders steal from leaders and claim it as their own. But, Leaders are too busy leading to worry about stealing ideas, campaign themes or “black voters” [wink, wink]. Senator Obama has announced several visionary-esque ideas that if he were to implement any, they would be revolutionary for how America does politics. Publicizing the Universal Healthcare talks and votes from Congress and the Senate for one on CSPAN was something he confidently spoke about during the LA Debates. Then we, the American public, can see for ourselves which politicians have been bought and paid for [Hillary might not want to show up for work on these days]. A $4,000 credit to young people who volunteer in a civic service role here or abroad to encourage you people to get involved with social issues — that is just the tip of the iceberg. In fact his ideas are so new and refreshing that I don’t think enough of us are paying attention. The man wants to work with the top scientists and chemists of our nation [America] to create alternative fuels so we are not DEPENDENT on others [IRAQ] for our gas. He wants to bring jobs BACK to America by placing a higher tariff and tax on businesses that import from other countries. And by the way, this man is American and yes he’s black and as Oprah has called him “Brilliant”! I agree, two million times over. He said he is running [not because he's black] but because of one simple reason “The urgency of now”. We are at a critical juncture in our history. The dollar has lost its power. The world, thanks to George W. Bush, sees us as arrogant and reckless. While I am a black woman and will someday support the right woman candidate, I just do not believe that right now we simply need a gender change in president, but whose policies and ways of implementing those policies are as arrogant and self-serving as President Bush’s have been in leading this country into a war that should never have happened. We need someone without an agenda. Hillary has been trying to get Universal Healthcare passed for years. I don’t want to be in a position that if she were in office it would be forced down our throats. Her, “Ah-ha–I told you so” moment to the Republicans, while we the people suffer with less pay to take home that we earned for Healthcare that we may or may not use. Here I too agree with Barack — mandate Healthcare for children, make it optional for adults.
Listen, I can go on and on, but what is more important than informing yourselves about the issues is informing your family, friends, neighbors and yes strangers — like the ones here on the internet — on the importance of voting. While it’s great to express our views in this kind of forum, how great is it really if it only comes down to us caring only if I drive to a voting precinct and make only my voice heard. Over the last few weeks I have talked with strangers about the election and while many I have spoken to said they love Obama, but when the talk turned to their actually voting, I have heard some very interesting comments:
1. Our vote doesn’t really count now. It’s the general election where our vote counts.
Wrong. Our vote counts now and in the general election. Granted delegates and super delegates are who legally determine the Democratic nominee, but those delegates are influenced by a number of factors including how the population voted in their state. The same applies to the general election, except instead of delegates we have the Electoral College.
2. I am not registered to vote. This is simple — just get registered by the deadlines established in your state.
3. I haven’t been following the election. Get informed on the issues. Visit all the Candidate’s websites and if you have a computer, just log on to yahoo, google, cnn, msnbc and you can’t help but find news about the election.
4. I don’t mess with politics and none of my friends talk about that stuff. Well, it’s time to put on your leadership shoes. Be the one who does. As I shared with someone recently, you and your friends are not getting younger, you’re getting older and while the present is fun when you’re young, we all know one thing for certain, life moves forward, not backward.
So, as you go back and forth on the Senator Obama debate, it will also help if you can convince or convert other people to vote.
I met a 66 year old woman who works in the bakery of a chain of grocery stores here in Los Angeles. When I asked her if she was voting on Super Tuesday, she let out the biggest smile and said “Yes. I haven’t voted in years because I didn’t believe in the political system. Obama has me believing again. And you know what?,” she said, “I tell everyone who comes within earshot of me in this store to vote for him too.”
Now, if we can’t be the change we seek, who can be?
And the bigger question: How many people have you convinced to vote today?
Black America let’s continue to turn our political opinion and voice into political action.
