POLITICS: CLINTON/OBAMA BATTLE CONTINUES
Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are anxiously awaiting Tuesday evening, when one of them will receive a significant boost on behalf of voters in Hawaii and Wisconsin. With over 100 delegates at stake, the candidates hope that Tuesday’s events will give bring each of them closer to the victory they each want badly.
Monday morning, the Clinton campaign unveiled a new weapon: a 13-page pamphlet outlining her plans to fix the economy.
The pamphlet details Clinton’s plans for universal health care, a freeze on mortgage foreclosures and the creation of millions of “green-collar jobs” which involve environment-friendly products or services.
Partial clip of Obama’s speech - Feb. 16 in Milwaukee
Obama had no new weapon to mention, but did have to defend himself against plagiarism charges that words in a speech he made in Milwaukee on Saturday sounded identical to those of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick in 2006.
At a news conference, he said that while “I’m sure I should have” given Patrick credit, “I’ve written two books, wrote most of my speeches. Deval and I do trade ideas all the time. He’s occasionally used lines of mine, and I, at a Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Wisconsin, I used words of his.”
Clinton’s Wisconsin Ad
Obama also said he has noticed that Clinton “on occasion had used words of mine as well. …When Senator Clinton says it’s time to ‘turn the page’ in one of her stump speeches or that she’s ‘fired up’ and ‘ready to go,’ I don’t think that anybody suggests that somehow she’s not focused on the issues …”
Clinton blasted Obama for ducking her and when Obama wouldn’t agree to a debate, she launched a statewide television ad mentioning it.
Obama fought back with an ad noting that “after 18 debates, with two more coming, Hillary says Barack Obama is ducking debates? It’s the same old politics, of phony charges and false attacks.”
Clinton and Obama are scheduled to debate in Texas Thursday night and again next week in Ohio; I wonder if these upcoming debates will be as cordial as the last one.
Something else I wonder: will Edwards endorse Obama?
And for anyone wondering, Sen. Mike Gravel vowed last week to stay in the presidential race until November.

Obama is a rock star I was I would have had seen him at The Toyota Center last night. I love the fact that he is able to cross racial lines. After his big wins last nite Hillary is to truly in trouble. I believe that she thought she had this nomination wrapped up and Obama wasn’t any competition. The outcome of this race will be interesting.
Superdelegates I had never that word until this election. Who are they or did I miss that post?

@1. Do you realize how many changes can be made if we elected a black president? I think your response is very ignorant and proves that Obama still has a fight on his hands to convince people that this change is for US. Blacks and the poor have been held back for so long and now we have a fighting chance to finally move ahead. I hope Barack becomes successful as president, what a wonderful day that will be!

So yeah J. Dakar,
What exactly are you trying to prove? I know that as a JOURNALIST and I assume you are trying to be a SERIOUS one or whatever, Like its pretty obvious that Hillary Clinton is getting her ass whooped. And you are reporting on these events like its still a evenly squared match. SHE LOST 9 PRIMARIES in a row. Like can you start giving Obama a little credit. Your posting would have someone believe that they just keep going into delegates and clinton and obama have equal momentum. You better start reflecting the truth on this BLOG. CNN, TIME, MSN none of them are sugar coating it like you are. Realize it young man Hillary is getting her booty kicked. No need to be objective. Its just the truth.

I think the voting public has sent Mrs.Clinton a clear message…They don’t like you,and every time she goes negative against Barack it ALWAYS comes back to bite her in the ass.I expect another crying episode out of her,but it won’t work this time. It’s too funny how she thought she would win the nomination, without a fight, less than six months ago.

LOL @ 16. In regards to this post I agree, but as journalist one needs to be as objective as possible. In J. Dakar’s defense I understand what he was trying to do, but I think he failed to mention who the winner was in the Hawaii and Wisconsin primary, which is what I was concerned about, and not the tacky/old politics of the Clinton campaign.
On another note: I’m so proud of Obama!!! I have been an avid supporter since day one. I have never witnessed a politician that literally sends chills to my spine when I listen to him speak. This is no smoke and mirrors people. Obama can and will deliver once he is elected into office. For those that say he is inexperienced, I ask you in comparison to whom? We have a former FIRST lady who has never been president and only recently became a senator back in 2001. Yes, she has done a lot for the people as a former lawyer and as a senator, but so has Obama so what’s the difference? Her major argument is Obama’s lack of experience, but clearly her experience in the white house is minimal at best (…and I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt). I think America is ready for someone that is driven, compassionate, optimistic, and REALISTIC. I think Obama is all of those things and much, much more. OBAMA in ‘08!!!

Obama’s win in Wisconsin provided further evidence that key voting groups are lining up behind the Illinois senator’s campaign.
Wisconsin, with its legions of blue collar white voters, should have been Clinton territory, but exit polls showed Obama repeating his feat in the Virginia and Maryland primaries last week of cutting into her power base.
He shared Clinton’s core constituency of women, and union households. The former first lady won only one age group, voters aged 60 and older.
Households who earn less than 50,000 dollars also narrowly went for Obama, and he also won the category of households earning more than that figure.
Obama now leads Clinton by 1342 to 1265 delegates, according to independent political website RealClearPolitics.com.
Neither candidate is likely to reach the winning line of 2,025 delegates, which has led to speculation of a convention brawl when the Democrats select their White House nominee in August.

My two cents..
First..@1.. You have every right to feel the way u do cuz America is still “a free” country, but If your not FOR Positive Change and Bettering Yourself, Your Family, Your people, feel free to STEP ASIDE, cuz the REST OF US want to see change and we NEED the momentum to keep moving.. We don’t need ur “nigga”tivity slowin us down.
I bet you would have been that ONE black person talking about.. awww man… i’m so tired of hearin about Rosa Parks and those damn bus boycotts too.. HA! Your azz probably would still be in the back of the bus! So get off your lazy azz and start helping us make a GOOD CHANGE for this country dammit!
All that was said out of love. lol (that was ur swift kick in the ..:D)
Second, I’m FROM WISCONSIN and I’m so Glad WE gave Barack the VOTE!
I’m really thinking the young college people outnumbered the old white conservative people up there.. and i hope ALL my people of color came out. .but hey.. I could NOT HAVE BEEN MORE PROUD.

Barack Obama cruised past a fading Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Wisconsin primary and Hawaii caucuses Tuesday night, gaining the upper hand in a Democratic presidential race for the ages.
The twin triumphs made 10 straight for Obama, and left the former first lady in desperate need of a comeback in a race she long commanded as front-runner.
“The change we seek is still months and miles away,” Obama told a boisterous crowd in Houston in a speech in which he also pledged to end the war in Iraq in his first year in office.
“I opposed this war in 2002. I will bring this war to an end in 2009. It is time to bring our troops home,” he declared.
Sen. John McCain, the Republican front-runner, won a pair of primaries, in Wisconsin and Washington, to continue his march toward certain nomination.
In a race growing increasingly negative, Obama cut deeply into Clinton’s political bedrock in Wisconsin, splitting the support of white women almost evenly with her. According to polling place interviews, he also ran well among working class voters in the blue collar battleground that was prelude to primaries in the larger industrial states of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Clinton made no mention of her defeat, and showed no sign of surrender in an appearance in Youngstown, Ohio.

A: Not quite..
Super delegate: An elected official or political party leader who attends a presidential nominating convention and who may or may not have made a commitment to vote for a candidate.

I do think he should do a delegate count. It is kinda wack that he isn’t acknowledging Obama’s winning streak and growing momentum but I like J. Kadar. Keep it coming cuzzo.
ALSO, ya’ll need to start looking up the superdelegates in ya’ll states and counties and start writing them, urging them to support Obama because chances are, even if he continues opening up cans of whoop-azz on Billary, superdelegates WILL come into play. Even though Obama is winning these states, delagates are proportioned based on the percentage of votes so Hillary did gain some delegates from ALL of loses, just like Obama has. Chances are, there will be a deadlock (all the delegates will be used but neither candidate will reach the amount needed in order to get the nomination) if Obama doesn’t begin winning by LARGER MARGINS. Anyways, look up the superdelagates in your states (especially if Obama won your particular state) and write them. Let them know that they are supposed to represent the people not some agenda and to BAROCK THE VOTE (corny but I love it)
J. Kadar, do a post on superdelegates please so folks will know about it.

I think it was really tacky and desperate how the Hillary Campaign accused Barack Obama of plagiarism. First of all, it was spoken words and not reproduced in writing so their claim is false. The owner of the words, Deval Patrick came out and said he had no problem with Barack Obama borrowing his lines. Secondly, there are more important issues to press than Obama borrowing a few lines.
The Hillary campaign says he’s just a good talker, well after having George W. Bush in office, we need a president who can articulate his thoughts and policies to the country. Bush made Americans look stupid. I really like Hillary as a former First Lady and a Humanitarian, but her actions as someone running for the highest elected office of this country is leading me to believe she will do and say anything to win. Stick the issues Hillary even when if the votes are not going in your favor. That is what a true Stateswoman would do.
Congratulations to Barack Obama on his recent wins. I really appreciate is optimism along with his realistic approach on issues like the mortgage foreclosures and heatlhcare because Hillary has not yet explained how she will cover every last American in her Universal Health Care Plan. Obama on the other hand explained he will seek to lower health care cost first making it easier for people to purchase.
Go Obama! Vote Obama ‘08!

I always supported Obama, and I hate that a percentage of Black America fears that he’s capable of being a great leader. I even liked Hilary; but her anti-Obama tactics are ridiculous and stupid..and they’re only leading her to losing. I think she, and her campaign needs to just grow up.

Now, I would post those of Obama’s, but the list is too substantive, so I’ll mainly categorize.
During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included **the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law, **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law, **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate, **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law, **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.
In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.
An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public.
He’s not just a talker, He’s a doer!

I’m so tired of hearing, Obama isn’t experienced etc. A cautious reminder of what so called experienced canidates did when they won the Presidential Office. George W. Bush—IRAQ WAR (weapons of mass destruction………please!) Richard M. Nixon—WATERGATE. Bill and Hillary Clinton, there was such a massive cloud of suspicion over Bill and Hillary. FOUR OF CLINTON’S CAMPAIGN FUND RAISERS DIED UNDER QUESTIONABLE CIRCUMSTANCES, Ron Brown, C. Victor Raiser II, Hershel Friday and ED Willey. Also Ron Brown’s personal attorney and Babara Wise, a coworker at the Department of Commerce. Vince Foster, Clinton’s Deputy White House Counsel, was found dead in the park which was ruled a suicide (which was very questionable). Let us not forget the Clinton’s WHITEWATER SCANDAL and the MONICA LEWINSKY SCANDAL in which Bill Clinton was impeached.

Obama has to win, but Im not sure if ENOUGH people will give him a chance. Our political system is very tricky and dishonest. But as far as I know, Obama is the best candidate with a chance, otherwise i’d go with the Green Party (And not Ralph nader). I even like Ron Paul and his radical ideas which would benefit us all, however im very suspicious about his supposedly racist-tendencies…But he’s a very smart guy. Only no one is looking at him b/c of what he proposes.
Obama would make a great president. So would Hillary, but I agree. She’s an opportunist. Highly Ambitious, a bit of an ice queen, manipulative, and a computer that calculates every move. I wish she would’ve had more children so we could see her more humane side. Now all these things, especially the ambition, could possibly make Hillary a great president, but she’s too corporate. I personally dont think its all about the money to her, like it is to Bill. But I do think her connections to Big Businesses has hurt her stance in this election.
Obama and his wife! God bless them. I truly feel safe with the country in their hands. They’re good honest people even if “no one’s hands are clean” in this race. At first I was torn b/w Obama and Hillary, b/c everyone liked Obama and i figured if everyone liked the guy then something must be wrong with him. Lol. But i see the truth now. I pray he continues to be a strong candidate and come out on top.
If Hillary wins, so be it. But she cant win this thing without Obama as her running mate and she’s highly aware of that, im sure. If Obama wins (and he better) i dont know who he’ll chose as his running mate because if he choses Hillary, she’ll only hurt his public image because she comes off as untrustworthy.

Thank you #13
I’m so happy for Obama. Do you all know that this man will work his ass off to do everything he said he will do, because he has so much to prove to the world (black people and white people etc… that he can do the job. We need this win, our children need to know and WE need to know that an educated, experience BLACK man can become president. I hope and pray he goes all the way!!! OBAMA 08

If Obama gets the nomination, the only way he wins the general election is if ( we)
Blacks turn out and vote in record numbers.

OBAMA WAS IN HOUSTON LAST NIGHT AT THE TOYOTA CENTER. IT WAS 20,000 PEOLE THERE AND IT WAS JUST A BEAUTIFUL THING TO SEE ALL DIFFERENT RACES SUPPORTING HIM AND HE A GAVE AN EXCELLENT SPEECH. I TRULY FELT THAT I WAS PART OF A HISTORICALY MOMENT LAST NIGHT.
AS FAR AS HILARY SHE HAS SENT HE HUSBAND TO UNVIERSITY OF HOUSTON TONIGHT. YOU WOULD THINK SHE WOULD MAKE A APPERENCE IN THE 4TH LARGEST CITY BUT WHATEVER.
OBAMA 08, YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I CRAM TO UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE DEFEATED MINDS ON THIS POST AND THE F*CKERY THAT COME FROM IT…(THE FOLKS CRITICIZING THE OBAMA STAN’S STANIZM)
WHEN YOU THINK LIKE THAT, W/ NOTHING FINALIZED YET, YOUR BASICALLY SAYING “I’M GIVING UP HOPE” OR “WHAT’S THE POINT OF THINKING,” YOU ALREADY HAVE GIVEN THE PRINCIPALITIES IN HIGH PLACES POWER TO CONTINUE TO STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY…
ALSO IT’S QUITE INSULTING THAT YOUR NOT GIVING THE STANS THE CREDIT TO BE INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO KNOW THEMSELVES BETWEEN OBAMA AND SUPERMAN. YA DIG!

The Obama train keeps rolling on…WOOT WOOT!!!
Wisconsin was major — he ate into all her core demographics — my man rocked that state from one end to another. He is the hardest and smartest worker in this whole election season and he actually believes he should earn every single vote, not diss the citizens of certain states and say they don’t matter.
[sarcasm/] Not just us dumb black folks are voting for him anymore! [/sarcasm]
OBAMA 08!!!!

I doubt she will bring it up. Its rumored alot of news sources know about the story but won’t, for whatever reason mention it. I just find it odd that today it was reported that McCain had an alleged affair although there is no proof. Well, this doesn’t have proof but I dont see this as “breaking news.” Double standard much
