POLITICS: DC, MA, VA PRIMARIES RECAP

Sen. Barack Obama enjoyed continued success Tuesday after winning three Democratic primaries — District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia — for a total of 93 delegates.

CNN reports Obama’s Potomac primary wins have propelled him past Sen. Hillary Clinton in the race for delegates: Obama now has 1,238 and Clinton has 1,207.

Sen. John McCain also enjoyed a great evening. He defeated Mike Huckabee by 51% in D.C. and 26% in Maryland. For a while, though, it got pretty hot between the two in Virginia, but McCain edged Huckabee to take the state’s 60 Republican delegates.

McCain said his Democratic opponents “promise a new approach to governing, but offer only the policies of a political orthodoxy that insists the solution to government’s failures is to simply make it bigger.”

He also said of Huckabee, “He certainly keeps things interesting maybe a little too interesting at times tonight, I must confess.”

Be at the polls for Barack in November!

  8. Grace/Ga peach

His next stop is WISCONSIN & that is my home state. I have already called my peeps and told them to get out and represent. The CHEESE HEADS have your back. Even though blacks are mostly in Milwaukee, he is already leading in the polls.

I just don’t understand why the old civil rights leaders have banded together to work against him. Isn’t this what they fought for? This is why we need new black leaders.

  9. LaLaLaLa

I am so loving this! Go Barack! GO!!! Way to go to all of DMV (DC, MD, VA) who got out and voted…

  12. Obama-Holic

I was excited that he won. You should have seen me jumping up and down in my living room. I haven’t been this excited about politics in a while and for good reason.

Some people say he is not specific well he detailed plans to lower healthcare costs and also how he plans to help those who are dealing with this outrageous mortgage mess. I suggest if anyone wants to know where he stands on the issues, please visit http://www.barackobama.com

    Vote Obama ’08!

  13. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

I hope that he wins all the primaries.

  14. Isis

I am happy to see Barack Obama winning all these states but the journey for him is far from over. He is still virtually tied with Hillary overall and drastically behind in super delegates. The Clinton machine is real – Bill Clinton has had 10+ years to set up strong relationships with the democratic super delegates (who could go on to decide this race). That is why voters in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Rhode Island and the like are crucial. Please get people out there in droves to vote. Don’t take this opportunity to choose your democratic candidate for granted. We can’t afford to let the super delegates decide who wins. I am fine with Hillary winning if she gets more pledged delegates, but there is something inherently wrong and undemocratic if she were to win via super delegates.

  15. bklyn-bella

Huckabee clearly has money to waste why hasn’t he dropped out yet

  16. aprilm

    Go Obama!!!!

#15 Isis…he just BEAT Hilary in delegates!! Read above…you can check CNN also. They are indeed neck to neck, but he’s not drastically behind.

  17. rastarr**

OBAMA !!! HES MAKIN A STATEMENT HE HAS LIFTED HIS LATINO AND WOMAN VOTES!!! OBAMA IN NOV. B READY 2 VOTE!!

  18. ebony

Everbody needs vote, whether you’re voting for obama or hilary bc this is a historical election.

    My vote is for Obezzy!!!

  19. Grace

@16…..You do not want Huckabee to drop out cause the Republicans will have their man and their base will be in order. That is why come April the Dems want Clinton or Obama to step down so we can focus on campaigning for the Nov. election. The sooner Huckabee step down, the media will have more time to cover the Obama/Clinton race. Every little thing they say will be blown up. They (especially Fox News) will make it seem like we are just mudslinging & don’t have our party together.

THE LONGER HUCKABEE STAY IN IT, THE BETTER!

  20. JAZZY

YOU BETTER DO THE DAMN THING MR. BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!!

You Go Obama! Yes, we need a newbie in the office for President. No more crooked Democrats and no more trifling ass Republicans. We need a real Democrat. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need something fresh and new. What we need is change; and change for the better! Oh, go head Rihanna. You stay fly girl!

  27. seven2

Obama IS BRILLIANT!!! Even people in other countries are pulling for him. It’s AMAZING!!!

Also according to the Associated Press: The man (David Wilhelm) who served as national manager of former President Clinton’s 1992 campaign plans to endorse Sen. Barack Obama.

Wilhelm is a superdelegate who was previously uncommitted in the race. His endorsement helps Obama in the race for delegates, in which he pulled ahead after Tuesday’s sweeps of primaries in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

    OBAMA ’08

  28. I’m concerned about the “superdelegate situation”
It almost like they are planning to steal this election away from the voters and place the decision in the hands of the superdelegates…..

  29. FAMU01

DC, MD, and VA people I am loving all of you today!!! You all really did the damn thing yesterday. Hillary didn’t get beat, she got whupped!

My folks and two of my sisters live in TX . Don’t believe the hype. The Latinos are down with us too. They know that if we get a black president there’s a good chance that a latino could possibly run for pres. one day and win too.

“We are the people that we’ve been waiting on”-Obama

  30. LOL

    Still waiting on ONEMIL02, ANGEL_MINDED, DCTRINIGYAL, etc……

  31. I’m still not getting my hopes up after the outcome in ’00 & ’04.

Look at how these sickOs did Gore & Kerry…..take notes people!

  32. ESD_PHD

CNN needs to stop including the SuperDs in the delegate count! Obama’s edge should not be underscored.

    To Isis:

You are right the Clinton’s are trying to get those super delegates racked up, but, that only works if he stops loosing. The superdelegates only come into play if it so close that they have to break a tie. Why do you think they have all stepped back. Because alot of those super delegates are on the ballots coming up in November so they are not trying to loose their jobs. Just keep watching and listening. It is not going to be that easy to steal from him. Plus has built up a hell of an orginization as well and don’t think that they won’t be out there and are not out there checking everything out.

  37. feisty

He’s coming to Racine, WI today!!!!! Here’s our city paper’s site. There was a lil drama w/ our city’s African American leaders feeling leftout of the campaign :( But Obama’s camp smoothed out the problems :)

    http://www.journaltimes.com/

    Can’t wait till tonite!!!

  38. King of Meats

The choice is clear, you can:

Vote for Hillary if you want to elect someone who can speak-up for the “voiceless”!

    or

Vote for Obama and hear the “voiceless” speak-up for themselves!

For too long its been that way! “Vote for me and I’ll set you free, Politricks!”
Why should the majority rely the few to plan the future? Most voters are everyday, garden variety citizens just like you and I, but yet we put our lives into the hands of people like George Bush and the Clintons! They are self-serving and if anything is left over, they’ll mail you a rebate check!

White men have read Obama’s book and they know the county is better off with his type of wisdon and leadership! Even the KKK has endorsed Obama! WTF??? They called Hillary a “crazy b….”! lol

And, our Latina brothers and sisters are showing they’re true colors by supporting Hillary! A Llatina man would never want a woman leading him, so why all of a sudden the anti-Obama stans from Mexicans and Asians? There could be only one answer.

Support from KKK and rejected by Latinas and eses!!! WOW!!!

    Developing…!

  39. diva$

#32 I agree totally!! Politics for the most part makes me sick….

    ———————————————————————————————————————–

I’ll believe that when I see it! Don’t rule out the racism across minority lines. Brown on Black hate!

  41. S.D.

In L.A., it’s like a constant race war. Latinos do not like blacks (in vice versa). You can look it up. But them Mexicans be taking it to damn far (I know I’m black so I’m automatically biased but this is real). They had some Mexican gang that went around killing black girls around ‘the jungle’ or something. See, in the Bay, we cool with the hispanics. They in the same situation as us. Why is there so much hate? I’m praying that Obama pulls TX

  42. PRISTINE

So proud to see that Barack got the whole D.(dot) M.V. on lock

    @38
    are you serious?
    the KKK?

  44. flylike

saw Obama speak on Monday, this man is GREAT!
im mad proud of my MD, VA, DC peeps – we got some smart folks out here 4 real.

  45. windy city

    OBAMA ’08 OH BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Ara

@33 ESD-PHD You are right, they are already factoring in the super delegates for Hillary, that’s the only reason the delegate count is so close between Obama and Hillary. Seems they are using the super delegates to make the race appear closer than what it is because everyone knows Obama has been winning everything.

  47. Nichole

Billary and her supporters can go ahead and bounce some where. I am also praying and hoping that Obama takes TX. For those who haven’t voted yet, PLEASE encourage your friends, and family to go out, and vote for Barack Obama. Especially those who live in TX, Ohio, and PA. Even if all three states are supposedly going to Hillary, Barack could at least get one. I am really hoping that it’s Texas. That would be amazing if he won out there. Especially since there are so many Hispanics. Barack Obama for our 2008 President!

  48. Nichole

Ugh. CNN fuckin sucks. I also hate how they are always adding in super delegates. They need to just add up pledged delegates and that’s it. In pledged delegates, Obama has over 1,000 compared to Billary’s 900 something. CNN needs to do it fuckin right. He should be even further ahead by now.

  49. Ara

@ 34 SHELBY I know what you mean I felt the same way, I was so relieved when I saw he had won Va.

  50. Ara

WISCONSIN , PENNSYLVANIA, OHIO, AND TEXAS STAND UP VOTE BARACK OBAMA 2008!!!! YES WE CAN!!!

  51. Ara

Yeah, they are wayyyyyy premature with the super delegates……….trying to give Hillary a boost. KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING VOTE BARACK OBAMA 2008!!!!

You need to ask yourself why rascist white men love obama???

ANALYSIS: White Men Boost Obama; McCain Wins Amid Doubts Over Conservative Cred
Exit Polls Show GOP Voters Seek Shared Values; Potomac Democrats Want ‘Change’

Sen. Barack Obama rode support from white men to strong victories in the Virginia and Maryland Democratic primaries, while Sen. John McCain prevailed in both states but still faced Republican doubts, particularly in Virginia, about his conservative credentials

Go Obama!! I’m pulling for you brother…

  54. JSCENE

    Obama 08 – now that’s what you call a clean sweep! Boo-yah…

  55. CLEARMINDED

    YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

I was particularly impressed by the demographics in Virginia. He even won the …… *drumroll* ……. LATINO vote! Told y’all to stop demonizing those folk.

This is far from over and Billary is waiting in Texas, but I’m excited about Obama’s chances in the next few states. Unlike Billary, he seems to value the voters in each and every state and once he meets the people, they seem to love him.

    Rock on, Barack! OBAMA ’08!!!!!
