POLITICS: SUPER TUESDAY RECAP
Wednesday, February 6, 2008

On Super Tuesday, February 5, 24 states (plus American Samoa) held either caucuses or primary elections with 1,681 delegates at stake for the Democrats and 1,020 for the Republicans.
Some results are still being analyzed (hence the delay in my posting), but all of the remaining presidential candidates are winners…well, maybe all except Rep. Ron Paul. Despite his cult-like following, he won not a single state and garnered only ten GOP delegates in the Super Tuesday event. He’s won fourteen since the campaign began and campaign spokesman, Jesse Benton, said Paul has no plans to drop out just yet.
The party’s frontrunner, John McCain, proved his place by winning the most states of any Republican (9), although none of them were southern states. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee trailed with six and four, respectively.
For the Democrats, the historic battle between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama continues. With results still coming in, Obama’s campaign says the senator finished with fourteen more delegates than Clinton; her campaign says the candidates finished within five or six delegates of each other. Either way, Super Tuesday for the Democrats, at least, is essentially a draw.
Quick question: where the hell is Mike Gravel?

Can you please explain delegates and superdelegates? and how they’re tabulated?
i’ve been following the political process for a while now, and I thought I had a handle on how the delegate system works, but as I watched the CNN, MSNBC, FNC, and other stations’ coverage of the primary and caucus results as they came in last night — the talk of the delegates and superdelegates COMPLETELY eluded me. I need someone to break it down! — lol
I get that it’s similar to the electoral college in that it is a derivative of the popular vote and what is ultimately counted when determining who gets the nomination. For democrats at least, I know that delegates are awarded proportionally by what percentage of the popular vote each candidate gets per state. Beyond that, I’m lost.
What exactly are superdelegates? And why does it seem like they can vote independently of what the popular vote indicates? that’s the notion I got, and I’m not sure if that’s correct.
Hit us w/ some knowledge lol.

I am sooo disappointed that California did not show up for Obama, instead we let our votes go to Clinton. We have a large hispanic community and they are not playing. They would rather see a white woman instead of a Black man in the White House. It’s unfortunate but true. White women are also behind her. I just can’t see it. Personally, I would like to see Barack Obama take it. But it’s not over, we got a ways and its a close race. I was also surprised he lost Tennessee, but then he won states I didn’t think he would like Colorado. I will continue to support him and hopefully things will turn around in the positive for him. He is truly a great candidate, the best candidate!

Does anyone even know of Mike Gravel? There are some things I like do like about his stance of certain issues, like gay marriage. He is the only candidate to be for “gay marriage” and not that “civil union” crap. People think that civil unions are a place to start in the direction of gay marriage, but when in this country’s history has separate but equal worked? And it bothers me that the top two democratic candidates are a woman and a black man, and know that those two groups and others as well still face adversity, yet won’t step for other people’s rights. Or is it just a way to stay more moderate and not so left? I would have liked to hear Gravel talk on this issue and just hear what he could’ve said.

I’m so glad somebody touched on this. Latinos and Asians are not giving their support to Hillary, and not Obama. This was one of the main reasons for his disappointing number in California and the south west (New Mexico). Based on exit polls Mexicans were quoted as saying that they thought that blacks were lazy and not hard working enough, prompting one to even call in to NPR to say that she feared that if we had a black president, then all blacks would start acting like they owned the country!
Some Asians stated that although they might know a black n, they don’t trust them in general.
Even here in NYC, the Bronx, which is largely Hispanic voted for Hilary in the majority. I’m not so surprised at the attitudes of Asians, considering our poor relations within the past 25 years or so, but I do detect some resentment from the Hispanic/Latino community. It has been long fashionable to for other minorities to jump on the bandwagon as far as giving us hate, but we will prevail.
On the other hand, we have to take some responsibility for how we are perceived.

People are so clouded by his inspirational speeches that they don’t even care about his policies and what we need in this country. They don’t see that his speeches are just that: SPEECHES, they have no substance and are full of idealistic and empty promises. We don’t need that, we need a president who will get things done and make those changes that Obama talks about and Hillary is that person.
Obama is an inspirational speaker, and we don’t need someone who will give uplifting speeches when we have two wars going on, a failing economy, high college costs, terrible health care (we are ranked among third world countries in terms of health care), and many other things. Obama does not have clear policies and plans to deal with these issue.
He is not clear with Iraq, he says he wants to end it but does not provide clear instructions on how. His health care will not cover 15 million people including myself, and I NEED that health care, and hardly ever talks about the economy.
Hillary has concrete plans and knows what this country needs.

J Dakar could you please repost if you have explained it already the diference between delegates and superdelegates.
Also just the whole process. Why is it that the democratic process in America is not really democratic to the full extent? Why is the presidential candidates for each party decided by the people who align themselves to the prty (registered and party members), and then the final decision in November at the elections decided SOLELY on the number of votes.
delegates, super delegates, caucauses, sub primaries and primaries are very confusing and not as straight forward as 1 person 1 vote.

They come over here jumpin f-ing rivers and crossing canyons and expect the black people to be under them…they can go to hell with that notion. But any i have nothing aganist the mexicans or whatever but they think they own everything and just because they will pick up poop, clean up houses and do slave work that we did 400 years ago dont mean we are lazy it just mean that we want better for ourselves and we refuse to be set back to where we were 400 years ago.

On the real, I’ve always got the feeling that Hispanics thought they were better than blacks. Especially the lighter or whiter looking you are. I been to Puerto Rico and I could sense the differences there just as I assume one would see the obvious bias in places like Brasil, but less extreme.
Still, I’ve been around long enough to know there is some truth to it.
But again, we can move past this bullshyt, and get cracking to change thangs. I mentioned it earlier, and I still believe that we have to take control over how we are perceived. ESPECIALLY IN THE MEDIA. The other minorities, as well as whites fear us not because of one of us attacking them physically, but they know deep down that we are a people to be reckoned with on a mental and spiritual level as well. We are not slouches, dammit. And we can run this!!!!!!!

Going off point . . . this country was founded, built and continues to run on deception, and all the “isms” . .racism, sexism, generism and the like. It’s unfortunate, that we continue to support those that don’t support us. For example, most Chinese hate Black, but we continue to eat at their restaurants and buy their hair supplies. The Japanese hate Americans. Remember Pearl Harbour . . .we let them come into our country and establish business after the BOMB us. Mexicans think we are lazy b/c we break our backs like they do. . .but WE, meaning Black Americans, African Americans, will continue to support other people of color, but won’t support our own.
“They” have these opinions of us because no one is teaching “them” our HISTORY.

First, let me say that you addressing only “Mexicans” may be the first problem. It’s not only Mexicans that make up the Latino population in America or even California. And to say that you want to send back 75% of them, not only illegals, but those who have never even been to Mexico or any other Latin American Country. There are many Latinos that are not illegals and have roots in the Southwest that go further back then before many of the states came into the Union. So to lump them together may be why they lump all Black people together. And if you sent back 75% of the “illegal” latinos living in California, the Californian economy would be in serious trouble, but of all the workforce that growers rely on illegals.
You have every right to feel what you do, but at least do it in an educated way and understand that if your “wishes” came true, there would be serious consequences for others. And also, there are Latinos that do read this blog, even though it is directed at the Black folks.

And what is the common factor? THE MEDIA.
The media for the most part is run by Republicans and they are trying to divide the democratic party and they are winning, they are making Hillary and Obama supporters hate each other and they are the ones making a big deal about race. It’s a shame.

Get ready sweetie. The revolution is under-way. Both canidates give speaches. The exception with Obama is that not only are his speeches inspirational, but also with merit. He has just as much “experience” as she does. He has 11 years of elected experience on the state and gov’t level. She has 7 years of elected gove’t experience. Aside from being Pres. Bill Clintons spouse. Which for some reason, I believe Clinton supporters believe that gives her some merit of experience. Speaking of Experience, Bill Clinton knew about the possible 9/11 terror attacks upon his exit of the WhiteHouse and did nothing with that intelligence. The attack happened at the start of Bush’s administration. In the senate Hillary voted for the war, as a way to rectify Bill’s wrong doing: which has cost this county TRILLIONS of dollar out of our pocket. Does she want to claim “that” experience. She won on the Bush banwagon for this war…….Anywho…..They’re both Law Graduates, and have worked as lawyers. On paper, they’re virtually one in the same. I think Hill is a great canidate, but America wants change. We need a president who can not only do their job, but inspire the nation while doing it.

To everyone who is hoping for Obama, don’t fret. Obama has about two or three weeks where he’s likely to pick up support, more states and delegates.
The next states are as follows: Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Hawaii and Wisconsin (what’s left in February). They’re all states Obama has the potential to dominate in, at least that’s what the prognosticators are saying.
The delegate gap is likely to close during this time. What Obama’s people need to do is get on the phones with people in Ohio and Texas. Those two states are extremely key. If he can pull close or score upsets in those states, he will take a lead, and it’s feasible.
If you’re for Obama, MAKE SURE YOU’RE GETTING EVERY YOUNG VOTER OUT YOU KNOW!!!! THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF THE YOUNG VOTER SHOWS UP, AND SHOWS INTEREST IN HIS OR HER FUTURE … ESPECIALLY IN OHIO AND TEXAS.

I have a Latina co-worker and she informed me a while ago that Obama was going to lose in CA becuase of the lack of support from the Latino community. (I live in LA)I didn’t understand it and I still don’t…she was originally on the fence but ended up voting for Obama. She says that the Latino community would rather vote for Hilary than vote for a black man. It is really sad…I didnt’ believe her but the numbers should up and showed out this morning.
It’s funny because I lived in DC when the Latino community had the immigration march and their was two government officials there and one of them was Barack.
I personally think or rather hope they voted for Hilary because the familiarty of the name and not because of the race.
I just hope we don’t turn this into a Black on Brown issue. We don’t need to fight them with ignorance. They are entitled to their opinion…now mind you this is coming from one of the BIGGEST Barck supporters that walked the planet. Do you all really believe that America is going to let Obama in the White House? If he wins the Democratic seat I can almost guarantee you that people are coming out of the wood works to vote against him on the basis of the color of his skin. . .look at the demographics.
I believe people are more willing to deal with a White woman before they deal with a Black man. . .regardless of education, experience and class.

True, true, but again, if you surround yourself with the right power players, you can effectively circumvent the opposition. Even with the majority against you. Look at how the Clintons played the game in the 90’s with a Republican senate.

Honestly do you really think you can trust Hilary Clinton? Do you really think once she’s in office she’ll do anything that can improve the lives of minorities and not just minorities all people, especially people in the lower income bracket. She says she can, she says she will, but I just feel as though she is doing that to get votes. To play on the idea that Bill Clinton was the first black president right there should be a warning sign that something is not right, because Bill is not black and why should that statement be used? To bring in more black supporters, but that is a strategy, to win our votes, but do you naturally care about us or are you just doing this to get in office. You can’t look at Bill’s smoking or having an affair and say oh yeah he’s black alright, when a recent friend brought to my attention that when BIll was in office, more black people were actually locked up in jail, which is a system of making money for the government. And also my mother pointed out about not trusting the Clintons after the scandal they had in the white house that had to do with them shredding documents that had interesting information on them, not the Monica L. thing neither….and its my natural intuition that tells me Hilary might do some good things but I don’t trust her and it behooves me that a lot of people do not see that.
honestly I am not supporting Barack because he’s black, but the fact that he’s black and is a positive man and I do trust him is a great accomplishment, if I didnt trust what he was saying I wouldnt vote for him, and honestly alot of people need to wake up and open there eyes and see whats going on. This country is a diverse country but we have no diversity in the government and we have never had any diversity inthe White House and basically this government and the White House does not reflect who lives in the country and that should be a red flag to most. Especially with the way this government is trying to monitor us, we are heading to a communist state and its funny how Nationalistic the USA is because we looked down on North Korea and China for being communist, but basically we are on our way to that point. So I feel like people can be naive and keep their eyes closed but when things get worse in the future It’ll be another I told you so, because I didnt trust BUSH and look where we are now. And to force people to buy healthcare is not the answer, its providing affordable health care because not all healthcare is affordable…..

I strongly disagree. How can you blame yourself for another person’s hatred? lol. Latin Americans are some of the most racist people on earth, in and out of the U.S. Trust me on that. The dementia is only exacerbated when they fall into the divide-and-conquer minority hierarchy that is the American status quo. As for Asians.. blah. Who cares? There is something peculiar about both group of people though: they for the most part will always chose a white person over someone of their own race. I’ve seen this over and over. That should pretty much sum up their general psyche.
The funniest part is that the people that hate blacks the most are the same people that worship black culture the most.

I don’t see where “Latane” is speaking with any ignorance. That’s her opinion. The fact of the matter is that no one can force their “savior” on anyone else, and it doesn’t make one “ignorant” to be divergent from the masses. The fact of the matter is that Obama in particular, and this whole democratic campaign in general, has led to and brought forth more division than it has brought people together. In actuality, it is really only highlighting the divisions that were always there. The hispanics will never rally behind a black man in any way shape or form in regards to a political leader. They’ve been indoctrinated from by the Europeans from the time of the white man’s “Age of Discovery” to despise blacks. This whole charade is very interesting and it will be even more interesting to see what happens when Clinton comes out with the nomination.

as a latino who reads concreteloop on a daily basis, it is sad to see the number of generalizations being made by commentators. within every ethnic groups there exists different people. yes there are latinos that are racists, much like they exist in the black community. i think a lot of hillary’s latino support stems from 3 things: the familiarity of the clinton name, the fact that clinton has been endorsed by important latino figures (ie dolores huerta) and because she has courted the latino vote. clinton knows she needs them to win, especially when Obama has the black vote. i think that everyone should have trhe freedom to vote for whomever they see fit, we live in a democracy and therefore should not hold it against people for choosing who they feel is working for their interests.

I’m sorry that’s just defeatist. I also think this form of docility is a major part of the reason why blacks don’t get the respect they deserve in this country. There are coon black shows and there are coon Asian shows. Don’t they have some Asian bisexual chick doing the same on VH1? Has anyone castigated her race as a result? Have you seen that Chappelle-wannabe moron Carlos Mencia on TV? Let me tell you one thing, this racism (as the idealogical social norm) is embedded in these people. They aspire to come here and assimilate, and for some reason suffer from a moral ineptitude to separate the good from the bad. Some other person alluded to a certain indoctrination, and that’s exactly what I meant by divide and conquer. If you decide to hate an excellent human being like Barrack because of a show you saw on TV, then it has nothing to do with anyone but yourself. How can you look at a Harvard Law grad who’s the son of a Harvard PhD, and still think “lazy?” And it’s the fault of blacks? lol.
My question is, if these other minorities harbor so much hatred for blacks, why even come here? Why try so hard to emulate blacks? How can you buy into the superiority of the culture of a people you hate so much? That’s why I’m convinced that it’s not really roted in hatred, but in jealousy. And in that case, how can you blame yourself? I think blacks in this country should have the self respect to stop expecting anything whatsoever from anyone. That is a weakness. There is a power left untapped by blacks purely due to this annoying mental timidness. Don’t let me even start on how we sat back and let Jews pimp our culture.
Ps: I’m not saying that everyone from these ethnic groups is patently evil. I’m just expressing a tragic social pattern.

Despite predictions that he would be put away by now, and proclamations like “I can’t wait til Super Tuesday so all y’all can see how stupid y’all are” — The Obama Train survives and lives to fight another day. LMAO!
Despite predictions that “white folks won’t vote for a black man” — Obama has won some of the whitest states in this nation. And he continues to win over white MEN. LMAO!
Despite insults that people are only voting for this man because they’ve been duped by “empty inspirational speeches” with no substance or merit — Obama continues to find some of his strongest support among the most well educated people in this country. LMAO!
Now Hillary is loaning her campaign $5 million out of her own pocket (somebody please look into this shadiness, please!) because the fundraising well is drying up — and she was supposed to be the “inevitable” choice for the Democratic party. NOT!

Thank you so much for your input regarding the Latino vote. The ignorance many black people are showing about Latinos is disappointing. I happen to think there may be an element of racism, but I think it is far less than people are saying. The fact is that the Clintons *have* courted these voters for years and years and they are well known in the Latino community. Whether they have actually *done* anything for Latinos is another story, but it is not far-fetched to think that Latinos voted for the person they are more familiar with. The fact is that most of them had never heard of Obama 6 months ago, and yet he got 33% of their vote in California. That is NOT a bad showing.
Further, if we as black people don’t want to be put all in one monolithic box, then we shouldn’t do it to others. There are several different types of Latinos depending on where you live in the country, and there are also gender, class, and generational differences. If you don’t know what you’re talking about as you rant, you’re just showing your ignorance.
QUIT obsessing over the Latino vote — and QUIT the ignorant racist rants!!!

If she were to become President and put this in front of our legislature, it will be bogged down again and eventually tossed.
Hillary does NOT have all this experience “getting things done” in Washington as she is proclaiming. Her initiatives routinely fail because they are ill-conceived and not well thought out. This is something I see regularly in the media and it makes me scratch my head: lots of talking heads being called “experts” simply because they’ve been around for forever. A lot of them have shady backgrounds, questionable judgment, etc., but just because they’ve been politicians for forever, they are called experts. You can see the same thing on your own job. LOL!

I think Obama followed proper strategic protocol by going for white/upper class votes first, thus solidifying his legitimacy as a presidential candidate, since winning SC wasn’t a big surprise with Jesse doing it years prior. Now he has to backtrack and get the lower income/blue collar worker as well as targeting the Hispanic population. All feasible and within reach. A few months ago the Black vote was split between him and Hillary and now look at it…if he could split the Hispanic vote that could be a winning solution given the time frame given.
Go Obama!!!!

I said this earlier and I am going to say it again. I’m from the Bay Area (Northern CA) and last night at around 9pm the local news was reporting that several counties ran out of democrat ballots and people had to wait outside until other counties brought more ballots. I want to know how did CNN and other national news networks call Hillary as the winner with only 2% of the ballots being counted?
At 11:30 pm west coast time several people had not even voted (even though the polls closed at 8pm). Some counties are still counting right now so how so they know she won? and by what amount?
They claim a lot of independent voters showed up and decided to vote democrat which is buy the ran out of ballots. This girl in my class told me they wouldn’t even let her vote and she was registered.
I knew he wasn’t going to win CA because of the tension here between Blacks and Latinos and Asians. Asians and Mexicans WILL NOT VOTE FOR A BLACK MAN HERE!
It is sad but it’s true. Most of it is based off stereotypes. I have plenty of friends who are Asian who have told me that their parents prefer them to act as European as possible because they will get treated better in America. Funny thing is it’s true the Asians in CA get treated better than any other minority group.

WASHINGTON - Super Tuesday’s mixed outcome has set up at least four weeks of frenzied delegate hunting for Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, pitting his well-financed all-terrain campaign against her big state strategy.
In a sign of Obama’s growing financial advantage, Clinton acknowledged Wednesday that she loaned her campaign $5 million late last month as Obama was outraising and outspending her heading into Feb. 5 Super Tuesday contests.
Buoyed by strong fundraising and a primary calendar in February that plays to his strengths, Obama plans a campaign blitz through a series of states holding contests this weekend and will compete to win primaries in the Mid-Atlantic next week and Hawaii and Wisconsin the following week.
Clinton, with less money to spend and less confident of her prospects in the February contests, will instead concentrate her efforts on Ohio and Texas, large states that hold primaries March 4 and where polling shows her with a significant lead. She even is looking ahead to Pennsylvania’s primary April 22, believing a largely elderly population there will favor the former first lady.
Clinton’s personal loan illustrated her financial disadvantage and her desire to pick her targets with care. On Wednesday, she sent out an e-mail appeal to donors Wednesday seeking $3 million in three days — an effort, that if successful, would match the fundraising rate Obama averaged for the entire month of January.
“I loaned it because I believe very strongly in this campaign,” Clinton told reporters Wednesday. “We had a great month fundraising in January, broke all records, but my opponent was able to raise more money and we intended to be competitive and we were.”
“And I think the results last night proved the wisdom of my investment.”
Both campaigns claimed bragging rights for their Super Tuesday successes Wednesday while acknowledging it could be weeks or even months until either candidate has amassed enough delegates to win the party’s nomination.
Obama won 13 Super Tuesday states while Clinton picked up eight and American Samoa with New Mexico left to be decided. Both camps claimed a small delegate lead, but an analysis by The Associated Press indicates there were still many to be counted.
“We are going to try and contest every contest, and win as many delegates we can,” Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said. “If you look at the next month, we have a lot of confidence that we will hold the pledged delegate lead.”
Obama, riding a wave of fundraising both from large donors and small Internet contributors, raised a stunning $32 million in January. Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said last week the Clinton campaign raised only $13.5 million for the month. The $5 million loan was in addition to that amount, Wolfson said.
Clinton advisers were stunned by Obama’s January fundraising and have marveled at his ability to raise small-dollar amounts from a vast field of donors.
“We will have funds to compete,” chief Clinton strategist Mark Penn said, “but we’re likely to be outspent again.”
The Clinton camp was eager to take the luster off of Obama’s status as a “movement candidate” who has generated unprecedented activism and fundraising through the Internet. Clinton strategists went out of their way to label him an “establishment candidate” and worked to pitch her message to online activists.
Obama was heading late Wednesday to Louisiana, where he is favored to win the state’s primary Saturday largely on his strength among black voters. He also planned to campaign in Nebraska and Washington state, which also hold contests that day.
Clinton was being more circumspect. She planned to campaign Thursday in Virginia, which holds its primary next Tuesday along with neighbors Maryland and the District of Columbia. She was also headed to Maine, which holds precinct caucuses Sunday.
Penn conceded the campaign would rely on surrogates to campaign for her in most of states holding contests Saturday, including President Clinton and daughter Chelsea. It was a tacit admission that the former first lady was unlikely to win any of those states outright.
Privately, her strategists have also largely written off her chances of winning the so-called Potomac primary Feb. 9, given the large black populations in Virginia, Maryland and D.C. They are also playing down her chances in the following week’s major primaries — Hawaii, where Obama grew up, and Wisconsin, which has virtually sealed the nomination for other Democrats in years past.
Wisconsin’s Democratic electorate is largely liberal and college educated, and its open primary allows independents to vote — all factors that favor Obama.
Clinton political director Guy Cecil insisted the campaign was competing hard in all those places. the campaign has paid staff in Wisconsin and as developed a strong grass-roots organization there.
The campaign, however, was clearly focused on the March 4 contests in Ohio and Texas, both of them offering a trove of delegates. But both states are have several media markets, making advertising an expensive proposition. A state wide race in Texas can cost $1 million a week in advertising.
Cecil identified Texas as a top priority. “We think it is a linchpin in our nomination to the presidency,” he said.
While Clinton was focusing on Ohio and Texas, her organized supporters were weighing in for her in upcoming state contests. The American Federation of Teachers was going up with radio ads promoting her in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. They also planned a two-week placement of radio ads in Wisconsin, which holds its primary Feb. 19.
Clinton faces significant fundraising obstacles ahead, raising the possibility that she might have to dip into the family’s wealth again. The Clinton’s financial disclosures, which reveal only broad ranges of assets, place their wealth between $10 million to $50 million.
Campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson said the loan came from Sen. Clinton’s “share of their joint resources.”
An analysis by the Campaign Finance Institute, which tracks trends in political money, found that Obama raised about a third of his money in 2007 from donors who gave $200 or less. Only one-third of his money came from donors who have given the legal maximum of $2,300, compared to Clinton who raised about half of her money from “maxed out” donors and only 14 percent from donors of $200 or less.

I don’t know who was being raciest but here in California there is a huge beef with the blacks and Mexicans. I don’t know where you live but if you know anybody in the CA region call them and ask them about it and see what they tell you.
A 14 year old boy was killed in Union City, Ca not to long ago for no reason, he was just waiting at the bus stop in front of his school to go home. The school said they had been trying to watch out for stuff like this because they know tensions are high. Every student interviewed (who were Mexican by the way) said it was because he was Black and well liked. Some of the Mexican kids said they didn’t even want to talk to Black kids at school because they were afraid that some gangs would retaliate.
This is just one incident there are plenty more just google hate crimes of 2007 in CA. This stuff got started in jails and spilled into the streets and there is not enough police and programs to fix it at the moment.

Hi Concreteloop I’m a long time reader first time poster. I love the site!
Many Canadians are paying close attention to the 08 elections.
After reading so many posts I have several issues that I need to address.
Firstly I really don’t understand why some Hillary supporters believe that they are voting for her because of the issues and her experience while those voting for Obama are doing so based on race. Super Tuesday proved that Obama supporters are diverse; he even won states that are predominantly white (I’m not surprised). Obama supporters are also analysing his record and experience. None of the Clinton supporters discuss the fact that in many of the states Clinton won, white women came out in droves to support her! Why not come to the immediate conclusion that these women have not listened to the issues and are voting for her because she is a woman? Many of the Clinton supporters for some reason think that black Obama supporters are naive and incapable of deciphering the debates and picking a candidate that is best suited for America. Obviously they can and have done so! Some choose to support Clinton others choose to support Obama STOP trivializing Obama’s support; scrutinize Clinton supporters the same way you scrutinize those backing Obama.
Secondly Hillary doesn’t have anymore experience than Barack. Hillary’s campaign has pushed that she has experience in the white house. Those 8 years of experience exposed her to foreign policy, diplomatic negotiations, and much more. And yet those 8 years of experience mean NOTHING since she could not use her experience to determine that the war in Iraq was bad idea! In the last debate she said that she felt mislead by Bush; she was duped, swindled, hoodwinked, he pulled the wool over her eyes. I would think that those 8 years in the White House would have given her enough experience to analyse the situation and make a decisive decision. Even if she did think Iraq had WMD why not admit that you were wrong for voting to invade Iraq! I’m sorry but Hillary is a clever woman, and I refuse to believe that she was bamboozled by Bush! She knew what she was doing she made a bad decision, and all of here so called experience in the White House did not prepare her to make a sound decision or be humble and admit her mistake!
Lastly the Clintons have polarizing personalities; you like them or hate them. The republicans hate the Clintons. It was during the Clinton administration that the Republicans were able to remobilize and gain popularity, hence the inauguration of the Bush administration. Nothing will get done in the White House if the Clintons win, since they play partisan politics like the republicans. Hence why many people like Obama, he can unite the two parties and get them to come up with plausible solutions and get them passed! There needs to be a new political order where partisan politics is eliminated and both parties come together for the good of Americans.
Note: partisan politics is where each party is only concerned about passing their own agendas, and rejecting those by other parties even if they are good. Both parties are not looking out for the American people and are too busy bickering to get anything done!

Just a note for some of the posters saying that Asians are not supporting Obama; his half sister is Indonesian and white, and is married to a Chinese-Canadian. They are both campaigning for him. Obama is getting support from many Asians and Pacific Islanders like Jennifer Fang who dedicates her website to Asian American issues and is an Obama campaigner. The Hon. Norm Mineta, who was a Cabinet member for both the Clinton and the second Bush administration, is endorsing Obama. If you visit Jenny’s (http://www.reappropriate.com/) site you will find tons of info on Asians supporting Obama. People forget that Obama is cosmopolitan; he was born in Hawaii, and lived in Indonesian for 4 years. He is very much aware of the issues that are of concern to Asian Americans. So please believe that Asians are backing Obama big time!

For the person that said 18-21’s don’t care, its true to a certain point, i’m 20 and i voted and when i went back to school no one in my class voted, they kept saying oh yeah i should of did that, i should of, or looking at me stupidly like voting? ew, butttt @!!!! there are alot of 18-21’s voting, you should watch CNN to see the colleges out there supporting, most of the youth supports Obama…but I’m going to say this and I mean it, I do not trust Hillary just as I did not trust Bush, and I do not believe Hilary will follow through with her plans, and if she becomes president, I promise you if she does not make things better I will become a college activist and my mission will be to ask her (petitions?? emails?? whatever means I can find) why she isnt doing this, why is her ideas not helping the quality of life, because if you ignore these things if you dont stand up and speak you might as well not complain. Like the Dixie Chicks they got sooooo much hatred for speaking on how they feel about Bush and look at America now, they basically are saying the same thing the Dixie Chicks been saying. So I voted for Obama, I did my part, everyone I know or am friends with white black whatever are pushing for Obama if he doesnt win, Hillary better beware because all eyes will be on her.

In order to force people of all races to come together, black people that love this system must do what they’ve always done, embrace lies and propagate them. This is why you see these negroes that come on here and say, “Stop with the racist rants!!!”, lmao. When I watch the televised news, the newscasters not only break down the amount of votes for each candidate, they go into a 5 minute long spiel pertaining to what percentage of each RACE voted for each candidate and then they proceed to hypothesize on why each RACE preferred who they preferred. One must ask oneself why they find RACE to be a factor if RACE is irrelevant according to the majority of bamboozled black people. No black person that earnestly studies this society and the depths of the problems that our people have would be idiotic enough to attempt to eliminate race as a factor in America. You have to be a complete buffoon. This leads me to believe that the black people that choose to separate race from this political process are hoping that by Obama being a potential catalyst for “change” and “unity”, he will therefore lead black people into unification with “all races” (hopefully whites) that will make all of our issues disappear. That is the “promised land”: a society of optimal confusion where people and races that are diametrically opposed are forced to hold hands because everyone must “accept each other”. It’s nonsense. To do that, you must reject everything that you are. This is why these “open-minded” black people usually don’t know about their own people’s history or care about the issues that affect their own people.
As far as the tension between blacks and hispanics, that’s everywhere and that has been attested to by HONEST blacks and hispanics. I’m born and raised in the Bronx and although we’re the same people and we live amongst each other, you would have to be a fool to act like there aren’t problems between the two demographics. The gangs in high school are divided along racial lines between blacks and hispanics. The reason why these issues persist is because people will not tackle them. They hide behind them with this “you’re being ignorant” bullshit. It’s the cowards way out. This is not even going into some of the things I’ve heard regarding the MS-13 and these different hispanic gangs whose initiations involve murdering black people i.e. the murders in Newark, NJ.

Are you saying that because you know for sure that a lot of Latinos voted for Hilary because they were democratic and didn’t want to vote for Barack because he was black, that this is the current state of Latinos’ thinking. And that a majority of latinos are that narrow minded?
I beg to differ. I do not think you have a monopoly on how ALL Latinos in californica think! or even the majority. Granted there are blacks whites women and men who will vote with people who they “identify with” rather than the issues. But I CHOOSE to believe that the majority of Americans are voting on issues, and not divisive elements such as race or gender.
because if that was the case how ignorant would it be to elect Hilary based on race and name recognition alone, is she still not what many Latinos call a Gringo or Gringa. Whatever! She is still a white woman, do the Latinos who are prejudiced against blacks not realise we are both fighting the same colonial thoughts that enslaved demoralized and raped both our cultures. I am not saying Hilary is part of this establishment but….. NOT ALL WHITE OR BLACK OR LATINO people have the same views. America allows for that especially in our peer group and demographic of 18 - 35. For the most part we no longer judge based on the colour of skin, but the integrity and words of the individual. But then again, in Cali it may be different I have only been there once…

If you want to be politically politically correct you can go on the idea of race is a false concept, if you want to get into Anthropology and the racism that was basically created by Biological Anthropologists we can. We can go on the fact that we are all humans and our skin and facial appearances and hair texture do not define us, but yet that is how people define us. And then once people define us, oh you must be black, you must be mexican, they then stereotype us on the actions of some and say all black people are like this all mexican people are like that, if you really want to know where racism comes from, why white people refer to black people as monkeys you have to go all the way back to the idea of evolution and darwinism, if you want to take it there. Honestly if more poeple in this world were educated to understand where most racism started then maybe it could end, but it will never be that way because one thing, people don’t read they don’t want to read or they don’t want to learn they don’t care…then as generations go on and on these stereotypes that we judge groups of people by continue until the death of a whole society and basically thats what its going to come down too. Yes black people do some ignorant shit, but guess what so do latinos, so do mexicans, so do asians (oriental to indian to etc), so do white people, basically the generations that exist today are brainwashed by the past and stereotypes and ofcourse how we act and carry ourselves today will add to those stereotypes and honestly things wont change esp if people dont give a damn and dont want to change.
i’m black, and i love latinos, i love mexicans, i love asians, i love people of middle eastern decent, why would i hate a culture KNOWING!!!! KNOWING!! what my own culture and what my own people have been through??? But it will never change because people don’t want things to change, so if Hillary wins that would be normal or even if McCain wins that will be normal, things will not change cause people are scared of change….
If any black person wants to know why alot of white people call us monkeys, its beause of Biological Anthropology and the idea that people evolved from apes chimps (hominids) and that africans did not evolve as much as european people did, therefore africans are less intelligent like a chimp ape orangutan etc and because in the early times africans didnt have a written language they must not be as intelligent, research the Hottentot Venus and thing about how they judge Serena and Venus Wiliams based on their body types…..there was a political caricature of Obama on CNNpolitics.com that depicted him as a monkey….so just think about it….how can you trust people who still think a negative way about you, how do you trust them to really give a shit about your future and your children’s future?
Honestly if Obama wins he could change the negative view of Black People, he can do great things for the countries and help his own at the same time, he can give more black little boys hopes that life is not just going to shit on them, so they gotta stay in the streets to get it cause it will never be given to them, so this Presidential Race is very important, Clinton could never help minorities as much as she claims, Think about it Oprah had a video out there with her supporters and there were supporters who had signs that said Women for Obama, Latinos for Obama, this could be a great thing to YES UNITE PEOPLE, and what if Obama won, then a hispanic or a mexican or an asian might say IF OBAMA CAN BE PRESIDENT SO CAN I, but to be real, think about it Do you think those that are in charge of the government now would like the idea of a multicultural presidents??? that would mean that the term White America would start to fade and White people would not be as in control of the USA as they are, which that is what we need, we need more diverse leaders to run this country, because this country is made up of IMMIGRANTS, every cultural group except NATIVE AMERICANS has a history of MIGRATION Europeans Africans Mexicans Hispanics Asians Indian etc etc etc…..so why not have a diverse President why not have diverse Presidential History…
I guarantee it will not happen if people don’t allow it.

Are the Bush’s and Clintons the new royal families. It is time for change and not change by passing the torch to Hilary ..Whats next? Georges brother runs for president, then Chelsea, then Jenna Bush. I mean its time for a changing of the guard.
Hillary is playing the race card “her issues are just that” Her Issues - NOT OURS!
AND THESE LATINOS KILL ME VOTING FOR HILLARY. SHE TRIED TO ALREADY CREATE TENSION AMONG US SAYING THE IMMIGRANTS ARE TAKEN BLACK PEOPLE JOBS. AS IF WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING MENIAL LABOR. Four Reasons for OBAMA!
#1: Hillary blindly jumped on the bandwaggon campaign of HATE when she voted to invade a country unprovoked! Obviously she view people of color less when she can give the order to bomb a country full of women and children that have NOTHING to do with the beef America has with Al Queda.
#2: She was an advocate for universal social health care until she was bought off by medical aid providers. Now she thinks that it’s best if we pay for healthcare. That says a lot for her character.
#3: In the last debate, she came up with a fictional story about how she ran into some Black contractor in the South and how he was upset with Mexican Immigrants taking all of his work. Why must she try to pit Latinos against Blacks in an attempt to gain Latino voters? Blacks have never BLAMED Mexicans for our socioeconomic state in America! They are in the same boat that we are. That devisive behavior does not and will not ever benefit minorities in this country.
#4: Why can’t we just support the brotha because he is BLACK!?!? For hunderds of years, we have been alienated from society simply for being Black. Why can’t we just this ONE time come together and support him SIMPLY for being Black. I mean come on! He’s not a sell-out like Larry Elder, Ward Connerly or Clarence Thomas! Can’t we just give the brotha the benefit of the doubt? The country wont be WORSE off with him in office. If he wins, then maybe the next generation of Americans could POSSIBLY not look at EVERY single Black man as a criminal. Do it for the children AT LEAST!

I for one…am very APPALUAD AND DISAPPTIONED by what is being said in this forum tonight. WE as black people need to start learning that it is now time to stop waiting for a handout. We can no longer afford to keep blaming the “White Man” and “Hispanics” for our continuing failures in the black community. It is time black people do for themselves! HOW can you say that Hispanics are being racist by not voting for a black man when black people are doing it themselves running out in droves to vote for this man because of his skin color?, half of you do not even know what issues he’s even running for. We know almost “nothing” about the issues his stands for except for the slogan of change….CHANGE TO WHAT! I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW…please give me an outline, a diagram or something, because I would like to know what I am going to be making a decision based upon.
What is he going to do about health care?? so far from what I’ve heard his plan for that is highly flawed because it leaves 15 million Americans w/o healthcare coverage, what is he going to do about student loans for new college graduates…the average college student leaves school with over $20,000 worth of student loan debt. With a recession looming and job growth getting slower, how am I going to be able to pay that back? What about all the young black men and women who are being locked up in prisons everyday at higher numbers. These are questions I need answers to, and have so far not gotten answers from Senator Barrack Obama? Yes I want to believe in HOPE, CHANGE AND A PROMISELAND, however I don’t need a Sunday Church Sermon, I need facts, an itinerary, and a plan of what you are going to be doing if you get in the white house. Please BLACK PEOPLE, I urge you to vote based off of the ISSUES and not RACE alone…we cannot afford to wait and hope that OBAMA gives us hand outs if he makes it to the white house in 2009, cause believe me he is going to owe a lot of white people for getting him there also!

Obama may have ‘lost’ CA but he gets a percentage of delegates based on the amount of votes he got. He actually won in the SF Bay area where I live! One thing Obama has done well is get people interested in participating who weren’t. Of course with the way the Bush 2nd term has disappointed everyone - even the conservatives- people are definately ready for a change. But it’s up to us to get these politicians to make changes. We need a new Fannie Lou Hamer - several in fact!
I wish the candidates would talk about the upswing of violence against Black women from the gang rape at Dunbar Village housing project in FL to the recent execution of shoppers and employees at the Lane Bryant store in IL. Things are just out of control! I also don’t see how either Clinton’s or Obama’s healthcare plans will really work with the insurance companies still trying to control it. Clinton’s tax credit is only good if you actually have the cash to pay upfront and can wait a year or so to file and get the money back. That won’t work for me. When I left my job and was no longer getting insurance paid by my employer I found out my COBRA payments cost $534/month for just myself! I had excellent insurance that covered everything from OB visits to Chiropractic but $534 + $15 co-payments just would not work. [That's half my rent]! Especially when you factor in the cost of a typical hospital stay [$8000/day]. I had to have surgery and when I saw the itemized bill I nearly fell out my chair even though it was covered. $40 for every pill they gave me [34 pills] - I could have had my mom go to a pharmacy and fill an entire RX for less than that! $700 for the sheets on the bed THAT they wash and REUSE! I mean come on! THIS is why healthcare costs are out of control - and I agree with Michael Moore that insurance companies should not be making a profit from people getting sick and denying coverage. So Obama’s plan for cost-cutting sounds good….but still the system is flawed. Anyway, I’m looking forward to the next round of voting!!!!

Oh…and I’ve been doing some research on Hillary since she started touting her 35 years of experience. She was originally a Republican and supported Barry Goldwater who was opposed to Civil Rights - as really most the white politicians were. [I was really surprised and wonder why no one has brought this up]. The Southern Democrats - some who later switched to the Republican party - fought it tooth and nail. When LBJ was running he didn’t want to press the issue so he’d get their votes. Fanny Lou Hamer went to the 1968 Democratic Nat’l convention and forced the issue in public. That’s how Civil Rights and Voting Rights got passed. It’s really up to us to help things change!!
If the delegate numbers are too close the super delegates would decide the nominee. So I know it’s been posted here by others but it’s time to start making calls and writing letters to your representatives about supporting your choice - whomever that may be. I personally don’t want to feel I’ve been shafted with a Supreme Court type coronation ala Gore and Bush 2000. So make sure you VOTE!!!
Considering Obama only announced his candidacy one year ago his campaign has been nothing short of spectacular!! The Clintons have had 20 years + to build their coalition. I personally weighed many options before choosing a candidate and I’m satisfied with my choice.

“I’m sorry that’s just defeatist. How can you look at a Harvard Law grad who’s the son of a Harvard PhD, and still think “lazy?” And it’s the fault of blacks? lol.”
I still stand by it. If you want to call it defeatist then that’s YOUR opinion. And I suggest you read my past posts CAREFULLY. Who cares about ONE Asian stereotype when you’re looking at a whole TV station that’s bent on portraying us in a negative light?! And I didn’t make a blanket statement as you’re implying. And I did not say that it’s the fault of blacks. Those are your words. If you cannot see the forest for the trees, or see the broader picture, then perhaps that’s on you, lol. And as for them assimilating our culture, I believe I touched on that one first as well.
And for the record, I AGREE with some of the things you’re saying. If you took the time to COMPREHEND before you post, perhaps you can see that.

Thank you so much for putting into words what I miserably failed to articulate.
It is not racist to acknowledge the differences in the races and cultures. I, for, one did not call any race out of their name, suggest they should go back where they came from, etc.
Furthermore, everybody has the right to state their opinions on race based on THEIR OWN experiences, period. If you disagree, fine.

Alright, this is getting rediculous.
I do agree that black people do patronize other people of color too much and support them too much. But, mind you. there are a LOT of racist black people who help to fuel opposition and feelings of mistrust by other ethnic minorities. Black people stay calling folks “chinks” “cooleys” “gook” “wetbacks”, etc. Hell! The responses in this thread alone proves my point. So, can you really blame the hispanics for not being on our side? And, I’m not even going to go into the prejudice between AAs and non-american black ethnic groups. Keep It Real: We are some racist people and hypocrites at times.
You cannot fight racism with racism. If you want other minorities on your side, then set the example by doling out the olive branch. The best way to fight indignation is by taking the higher ground and setting an example for humanity. Not too long ago, there was unity between the asians and blacks; in many different countries, asians and black are romantically linked…yet we harbour disdain for one another here. Same story with latinos.
I think that the same thing that happened between the Bush campaign and the latino voters: misinformation. Bush lied to alot of people about immigration. Since many couldn’t understand the lack of power he had in such matters, they voted for him. But, to sit here and lump all latinos into one boat while ignoring our own hatred is what keeps getting black people caught up.

I loved reading everyone’s comments. Debate is always a good thing as long as it is done in a positive manner. I thought I would put in my two cents.
First, I am a Latina who lives in Southern Cali, 10 minutes from the Mexican border. HOWEVER, I went to Wiley College (The Great Debaters) which is an HBCU in rural Texas. I vorted for Obama because I believe in him. I pray that he becomes President, one reason being so that he can help change the minds of so many ignorant people. My heart broke when the Hispanic community did not overwhelmingly support Obama. My heart broke because I knew that they “fell” for the lies. I educated myself and found that Obama supports the issues that Hispanics face FAR more than Hilary. However, what many must understand is that maybe it is not racism that plagues the members of my ethnicity. Personally, I think it is the sad belief in my culture that Caucasians are the Superior race. We are often directly and indirectly taught that we must be like them. When immigrants come into this nation they picture a white person leading. It’s Sad. However, I believe that Obama has the power to change the minds of so many people. I voted for him on Super Tuesday and I will vote for him again in November when he is the official Democratic Nominee!
