Beyonce is officially signed on to play Etta James and also executive produce the upcoming film Cadillac Records. The legendary James recently spoke out on how she felt about the 10-time Grammy winner depicting her life:
“It’s a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don’t think she looks like me, but that’s all right. They can that up,” Etta tells us.
And appearance isn’t all Beyoncé will have to work on…Producers have informed Etta that she’ll get the chance to consult with the 26-year-old Destiny’s Child star, giving her pointers on both the acting and the singing — the latter being something the “At Last” singer was most concerned with when she got wind of the casting…
She does stress that the emotional transformation Beyoncé must undergo will have to be a little intense.

I am a Beyonce fan, but some of her fans make us all look dumb. It is not about hating on Beyonce for everyone. Sometimes critics can raise some of the most valid points because they are not biased. First of all, I agree with the comment that said, “Give it to an unknonw.” You want to know why there are only two black stars in Hollywood, it is because we do not promote new talent. Instead, blacks with perceived power would prefer to keep using the same women (Halle, Beyonce) in everything instead of giving those nameless women of color a shot. Since we are always talking about what white folks do, that is what they do. They give an unknown a chance to be successful, and that is why they continue to dominate Hollywood despite the fact they themselves are becoming a minority in this country. Beyonce is a star, this is not even an arguable point. Promote a talented young woman who would not normally have a chance. I don’t mean one we have already been exposed to (J-Hud).
Next, yes Diana Ross did play Billie Holiday. Did anyone mention how she herself had a bout with drugs? Billie and Etta are heavy roles because those are women who sang from the soul and that’s why their music will outlast all these “it” girls out here. When they sang, they brought their problems (drugs, men who beat them, segregation, racism etc.). All these new age singers whine about is, “Why people hate me? People say evil things about me. No one loves me.” Those women dealt with hate 101, 102, and 103, and survived when everyone said no. They came around the time when white folk showed their true racism and not this under the table hidden racism or because you’re rich I’ll pretend like I like you.
Finally, who the hell said that Jayz was intelligent. He gives some of the most embarrassing speeches at the UN. I’m sick of us glorifying people because they make it as entertainers first. Jayz has intelligent people doing his bidding, but please don’t act like Beyonce is dating out side of her intelligence. As a matter of fact, her conversation is better than his.

Just because someone says Beyonce is a bad actor doesn’t mean people are hating on her. No one is perfect at everything; she or the people in her camp need to realize it. She either need to step her game up or just stick to what she does best, which is singing.
The reason people are voicing their opinion on her acting ability (and not hating) is because there are several people out there that are far more talented at acting and will never get the chance. They wont get the chance because people like her deebo their way in the game. It so sad that we cant have new age Angela Bassett, Alfre Woodard, Halle Berry, Loretta Devine, or a Ruby Dee.
i’d rather see heather headly play that role, at least she will be able to carry the songs with some emotional depth.
