RUNWAY REVIEW: HERVE LEGER FW08

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

runwayherve.jpg

Max Azria premiered updated designs for the newly ran Herve Leger label. Founded by Herve Leger (now Hervé L. Leroux) in 1985, Azria acquired the label in 1998 and since then, has made an already well known label even more demanded with publicity on the red carpet…

With this being one of my personal favorite designers, Max Azria did not disappoint the crowd with his modern to twist to the classic cuts of Leger. Simple updates such as airbrushing, feathers, and beading added a different element to the once very simple and ultra sexy banded silhouette. He did not do too much to take away from the look of Herve Leger, which was appreciated…

i think i recognized two or three Top Models, but hey most models all look the same to me….

all female celebrities are wearing this design now, i doubt it’ll be popular for much longer. it’s not exclusive enough, imo

I am extremely disappointed in the fact the he brought back last year’s banded dress. That was so last year. The banded dress is sexy, but when you debut a new collection, you should not recycle old ideas from as recent as last year. He needs to let the bands go and do something different.

If i see one more banded dress, i’m going to scream

It doesn’t bother me that he bought back the banded dress. I can’t wear it but it looks good on those who can (meaning the bands contain them). I like the muted metallics and brights he used and I like that he changed the shape from banded sheath to cutouts, boatnecks, and layered with jackets or corsets. Last year was a lot more gold, bronze and silver (i.e. Alicia in “No One”)

the dresses are nice they show a lot of class and style. Everytime we see Jaslene from ANTM on blogs we are always saying she is too skinny, but from the looks of this models here she fits right in, so I guess eating a burger or two is not the answer, GO Jaslene

I was skeptical, but he’s turned out some really awesome pieces…I especially love the jackets, the corset, and odd silhouettes. It’s really good…but I’ll warn you ladies, it isn’t made for boyish figures…you just end up looking like a box…These dresses were fitted to the model, but I’ve seen someone in an off-the-rack dress and she looked horrible…she isn’t even close to fat, but she has no hips and it just made her look like a box. You really do have to be at least a semi coke-bottle to pull it off…if you don’t have that exaggerated figure like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, then you must at least have natural curves, a waist and hips that jutt even a tiny bit… If you have a more athletic/boyish figure, you look ridiculous.

I dig the outfit with the high-wasted pants and the outfit with the corset like top and skirt. But bandage wear is kind of last year thing I agree.

oh, and if you have the traditional model’s willowy figure, you’re good…

I for one am sick of seeing the black celebrities in these dresses. Talk about over saturation.. When I first saw it….no…correction…when I first took note of it and appreciating the design and cut of the dress it was on Rhianna I think…But now…MY GOD….talk abut overkill…its got to the point where they look exactly a like…somebody said it before but I will repeat…WHAT WERE OUR BLACK FEMALE CELEBRITIES WEARING BEFORE THIS DRES…I honestly cant remember..

On another note…you know its time to change up your style…when your rocking the same dress as that classy broad Remy Ma….sorry but true…

I was skeptical too when I heard there would be a FW line, but I assumed it would be the same silhouette, more sheath dresses (as another user said)… But, I’m really pleasantly surprised with the innovative outwerwear and new silhouettes…It really doesn’t bother me that it’s more bandage…I see it sorta like a line of denim…I can enjoy the pieces and expect variety and spontaneity although I know it’s all made of denim. I really love the line (I especially love the outfit on the third row to the far left and the skirt that’s paired with the black jacket)… I just hope starlets get more stylish in their interpretations of these designs, and mix it up, playing with layering and accessories as opposed to simply wearing a dress and heels….

Now ya’ll know y;all dead wrong how yall gone show this designer without showing Rihanna rocking one of his dresses…I mean she always rocked them the best and no one can really seem to rock one like her and she did spark the fad!!!! I’m just saying….

16.

WOW

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 /

the dresses are hott Not just anyone can rock these.

17.

KSH

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 /

The first time I saw this dress I saw Rihanna in it - then it was like pandomonium! Everyone was wearing one. And she wore it when she did the Chocolate phone for Verizon I think…That was at least 18 months ago. Her hair was long and brown then. But some of the new shapes are cute but this style is very saturated!

18.

Sharonda

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 /

Mariah, Lindsy Lohan was seen one before Rih Rih people just didn’t take notice of it until she started to rock them, which is a GOOD look, but still not trendsetting anything.

@5

that’s the whole concept of the herve leger dress (the tight band-aid) he did it every season and it’s the houses’ signature. Now that it being done by new owner max azria, he’s just following suit.

I just wanted to also agree with SAG 1970.
If you knew about Herve Leger, you would know
that the banded dress is not something that came out last year.
It has beeen a staple in his collection since the days of Cindy Crawford,
Linda Evangelista, & Naomi Campbell(supermodels).
Its knda like a Chanel collection will always have a tweed jacket or a
chain handbag.

I think everybody knows the dresses were vintage ’80s but they’re saying, I think, that too many people wore them and they’re already such an identifiable look. It got to the point that it seemed dull, the sexy bandage dress and stiletto… People knew what to expect…nobody strayed from that so it does seem that we’ve seen celebrities in, at most, ten different colors of the same dress… But, it’s like that with anything…remember how the fashion world turned on anyone caught dead in the Manolo Blahnik okla mod bootie? It’s the same situation…people know celebrities have access to almost anything, so it’s annoying when they all seem to embrace the same dress…
But, as I said, the new pieces are innovative and spontaneous…if I can afford something next season, I’ll definitely buy it…not planning on it, though…lol

26.

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 /

WOW black people got over saturated with things or people really easy!!
it would be super if people instead of just complain, put things in action and start creating they own stuff or do they own music, film, etc etc… blacks should be a real power in the world..

SO BEFORE COMPLAIN SEE IF YOU CAN DO BETTER & JUST DO IT YES WE CAN! lol

Thanx for co-sigining!!

during his hey dey he (herve) was accused of copying the banded style from designer azzedine alia? is that true?? they asked him about it in an interview and he walked out (herve).

i could’ve sworn that bee was the first black celeb to bring herve back. other chicks like posh spice and lindsay lohan were also first to rock herve

i was about to say “luckily i’m thin and curvy” but i don’t have money to rock this anyway. plus non-celebs can’t really get away with this. we’d look like hoes unless the dresses were knee-length or something

Hi Elle
I only said my comment because I think someone in the earlier post said the first time they took note of these dresses was through Rihanna. Another person also referred to the dresses as “last years dresses”. I just wanted to let whoever didnt know that the dresses are not new. :O)

Hi SAG 1970
I never knew they were accusing Leger of biting. LOL LOL

looks like more of the same. women swathed in bandage dresses. it was hot the first few times i saw it. if you have the body and a good pair of spanx…. it’s fabulous. BUT NOW, everybody is in one of those dresses…. and his collection is more of the same look… oh well.

ANYWHO :: Can J. Dakar please explain delegates and superdelegates? and how they’re tabulated?

i’ve been following the political process for a while now, and I thought I had a handle on how the delegate system works, but as I watched the CNN, MSNBC, FNC, and other stations’ coverage of the primary and caucus results as they came in last night — the talk of the delegates and superdelegates COMPLETELY eluded me. I need someone to break it down! — lol

The bandage thing is his signature look..I like how he still was able to make all the pieces unique while maintaing the bandage look. I mean its like Louboutin shoes.. he has the red sole for the bottle of his shoes as his signature.I mean thats all i see in pics now, is the red on peoples shoes.
Anyways I would rock one of herves dresses in a hot min..Ladies get ya summer body ready.

Those runway shots show why they not only need more ethnically diverse models but that everything DOESN’T look best on hangers. The models look like stick figures unlike when Herve had his shows back in the day with Cindy, Tatjana, Naomi, etc. They were slim but for the most part had enough curves to make Leger and Azzedine Alaia look fab.

Honestly, its boring and recycled in my opinion, but that is exactly what it is an opinion….I like designers like A.McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, Commes des Garcons, so ofcourse I would think this is boring, but I can see some physically fit celebs rocking the hell out of the dress, so more power to them!

I’m sorry but all except the Black and Asian models look weird to me, like aliens or something; well except for the orange model with pink lipstick in black v-neck dress in the fourth row, she looks like a cat.

#21…..Just out of curiousity, what do you do for a living? I’m not doubting your ability to cop one of these dresses but they are a bit..pricey. And not worth the money (IMO) unless you have money to burn. It would take an entire paycheck after 80 hours of work for me to pull that off and I’m a TSA for the airport.

Dude, that’s not your business… Now, she may answer you…and that’s fine…but it’s in bad taste, asking what you did…
