This is sooo sad! RIP Static

Wow…I didn’t know him as a producer. I always remembered him as the cute dark skinned guy in the group Playa. He resembled my boyfriend at the time so I always payed close attention to him. Even when I first saw this post it took me a couple seconds to realize he was dead because I was to busy looking at how familiar he looked. My condolences to his fam. Aneurysm? That’s crazy. I don’t think a check up at the doc can really help that. Things like that is just sporadic and happens. But like others have already stated, live ya life, tomorrow i definitely not guaranteed.

Damn! That’s such a big loss. I have been hoping to see another Playa album. They had that southern soul flava. My prayers are with his family and friends. Cheers 2 you!

I was familiar with Static and was stunned to learn that he died. My condolences to his family and friends.

I was really sadden to hear about this, this morning. I loved his work. So sad he’s no longer with us. Angel please keep us posted as to what was the cause of death. I send my prayers and condolences to his family!

OMG….I was just listening to Cheers 2 U the other day….I loved that group, and I LOVED almost all of those songs that he worked on, especially “Don’t Know What 2 Tell Ya” by Aaliyah.

The album that Playa did was sooooo sick, and I could always tell when he was involved with a song because of the vocal harmonies each artist would use. I especially love the work he did on Aaliyah’s last album. RIP Static.

That’s sad. To be honest I didn’t know who he was, but after reading some of the work that he’s done I just realized that I’m a fan of many of his songs.

Wow…R.I.P.! I saw the picture, I’m like not dude from Playa…..wow…I always thought he was the cutest one of the group.

I’ve been a fan of his work since 96. I still bump my playa cd. He(and Playa) was even on Jodeci The Show, The Afterparty, The Hotel CD. He’s been in the game a long time. I’m gonna miss him.

smh this is so unfortunate… half the songs he is responsible for are poppin songs that i didnt even know was him. now that i go back and listen i see how innovative he and his music was i wont ever forget who he was or what he was responsible.this was a big loss for music in general, but i know 4 a fact that he is up there chillin wit aaliyah so it will all be good.

I am simply at a loss for words at this point… Static, such a wonderful being and musician… I have been an admirer of his music for years…I loved Playa and always thought that they would bless the fans with another album. I am a songwriter and have always look up to his style of writing from the mid 90’s on…He has always been on my circle of musicians tongues….He will be missed.. I send my deepest condolences to the Garrett family.

I really can’t believe this. I’m in total shock. I absolutely LOVED Playa and all the work he did for our angel Aaliyah. Rest in Peace Hun… join the rest of our angels up there in heaven.

Static was in a car accident and had been hospitalized for a while, actually. He was one of the young black writers I REALLY checked for and crucial to the Bassment Crew (Missy, Timbo, Ginuwine, Aaliyah) taking over throughout 96-99.

Mr. Garrett…what can I say, a true talent in deed. I come from the generation of those who have grown with Aaliyah along with Tim Mosely, Miss E., Playa, Mr. Lumpkin, etc…..their music has been an inspiration and helped me get through the good times as well as the bad in my days…..being an avid music lover, this was a hard hit for me. I will always cherish Static’s talent we were fortunate to have, and will keep the family and friends in my prayers……. may you now rest in peace. You will be missed.

I just want to say RIP to one the most prolific songwriting/vocal arranging talents of my generation. I am a singer/songwriter myself from Lexington, KY and I knew him personally. He was truly an inspiration for my brother and me, Black Coffey, during our growing years as singers/songwirters/vocal producers. He will be be sadly missed and it’s a shame he had to leave of us so soon. Yo Static…although I never got to work with you thanks for paving the way for Black Coffey and all the artist trying to make it out of KY! Tell Aaliyah we miss her!!

i only got into static and playa 2 years ago and ever since then i always thought that static was a talented man. even though i’ve never met him personally from what people say he seemed like a cool down to earth person and one of my aspirations was to meet him one day. when i heard the news that he died i couldn’t believed it and it took a minute to sink in.next thing i know i’m crying because he inspired me in so many ways as a songwriter,its just a shame he never got the shine he deserved.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! This man was the hottest fucking producer of this decade thus far. I fell in love with Static’s music after Aaliyah’s last album dropped in 2001. This man damn near produced that entire album!!! Every track is fiyah. He wrote lyrics, did the compositions–Timbaland totally stepped back to let Static do his job. Timbaland was barely involved in Aaliyah’s last album. And Aaliyah put all her trust into this man’s talent, without Timbo. Static–and Pharrell—are the reason I developed an interest in making beats. Static, to me, was my number one favorite R&B producer in the new millenium.( Pharrell is number 2)

I am working my own music production company in Baltimore..and I dreamed of linking with Static one day. I wanted to sit with him in the studio. I guess that day will never come.

Wow…that is shocking…Another Timbaland’s people gone..Aaliyah now Static…I was just thinking about the song they done together on Timbaland & Magoo album “I Am Music”..Damn…I remembered running into “Static” at Tower’s Liquor store downtown in Atlanta about two or three years ago. Short guy but very cool person. Sorry to hear about this…I give my condolences out to his family and friends who was close to him.
