both songs create different moods, but i do like amy winhouse’s upbeat version a little better. jazmine’s voice is crazy good.

I’m used to Jazmine’s version…Face it, I’m biased! I’m a Jazmine fanactic!!! But something about Amy’s version drew me in……

I love both versions, but Jazz’s constant low riffing and running all over the song can get a little tired after a while. She needs to throw a couple more of those like high high notes to make it live and make it a little unexpected. Amy’s takes it.

Anyone that says that Amy can’t sing don’t know what Jazz is!! Haven’t you ever heard of Billie Holiday????? Amy sounds a lot like her but with her own quirks. I liked Amy’s version better. Im not taking no love from my sister Jazmine cuz the two have very distinctly different styles. These two artists have such amazing vocals it just gives me goose bumps……….When you listen to Jazmen you just know she came from the church cuz she has that voice that makes you feel whatever vibe she has and Amy has that voice that makes you feel her emotions through her solo……………………………………………………………….Over all I’d have to just go for Jazmine, she put her own signature touch to it and ……….I’m just speachless!!!

I’m absolutely baffled by these responses. Is this a black vs white issue? because i don’t understand the overpraising of Amy’s version. It was good, yes. But Vocally Jasmines was way better, elite standard.

Amy has a great voice, but look at how easy her vocal style can be emulated. Theres about 5 new white artists out in uk at the moment, all sounding like amy whinehouse, and doing a decent job at it. None of them could come close to jasmine’s vocal ability. She sang the song live, and on the spot.

Compare Her singing live, and then AMY singing live. Amy sounds terrible half the time.

I don’t know if Amy’s production are writing these stupid comments or what, because they all sound like theyre written by the same people.

Amy definetely is an individual, her overall style & appearance is unique. But this battle is about vocals, and Jasmine won. She does not have a typical church voice, thats such an insult. Thats the problem with society, if a black person sings great, it’s just expected from them as if it’s in their genes. If a white person is able to emulate a black person, they become the great white hope.
It’s a shame, I do think Amy’s unique, but she lost this one.

I like Jazmine’s version way better than Amy’s, Although I do believe that Amy Winehouse has an amazing vocal ability, Jazmine killed that.

I actually sat down & listened to both renditions of ‘Round Midnight by both Amy & Jaz. Honestly, I think that they both are awesome. I have always been a fan of Amy, but I’m really digging Jaz. Honestly, I can’t say one sounds any better than the other because they have two totally different styles & flows & they both sound great to me.

AMY is just, THAT HOT SHIT for real! I mean Jazmine is lovely, but Ummmm, there’s already one Kim Burrell… music already lacks enough originality!

They both sang the song well with thier own little twist to it. I like both artists so it is hard to choose, but if I had jto choose one i would choose my girl Amy Winehouse. This song fits her style of music better. The song has to much age on it for Jazmine.

liked both. enjoyed J vocals a little more and appreciated the instrumentation of Amy a little more.

It would have to be a tie..because they are doing two different takes to the piece. As a lot of people have said Jaz has a great amount of runs on the song which takes away from it. Amy on the the other hand sounds more on the jazz, however, some parts are a little annoying. Jaz sings more on her version. I love both of these artist because they are finally bringing REAL MUSIC to the table. Enough of the tired pop sounds bring on MUSIC! Take it for what it is…

I don’t really care for either version and this is the reason why. Jazmine Sullivan is a beautiful singer but her voice is heavy. I’m not too fond of heavy voices. Not saying that she can’t sing. Just saying that she doesn’t have the type of voice I like to listen to. I think that if Amy Winehouse would have done her version of “Round Midnight” like Jazmine Sullivan than it would have came out beautifully. If she would of slowed it down, just having the piano and her voice…OH..It would of been great. But anyway, I don’t like either one. If I had to pick I guess I’d pick Jazmine just on the fact that I like her version.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but some ppl can go overboard with it. Anyway, there’s is no comaprison between the two because they have completely different styles in my opinion. I am a fan of both artists and depending on my mood, I could easily listen to either version. BUT without being neutral lol, I’ll have to say Jaz because her voice alone made me want to keep listening and I felt it more.

I really came on here thinking that I was gonna vote for Jazmine, probably because I LOVE her voice and her new Song “I need U Bad”
But I like Amy Wino’s version better. It’s a lot more upbeat, and Jazzy, funky I think somebody said.

I must say, I jjst learned about this Jazmine chick and decided to listen to both version of the song (’Round Midnight) and I definitely have to say Amy did a better job with the song. She brought you into the song immediately, especially those people who are not traditional jazz listener. As for Jazmine, she may have the more traditional jazz sound - which tends to put me to sleep. This is no indication of her ability to sing because I do like her hit single “Need U Bad”, it is pretty good.

So, in summary, if your not the traditional jazz listener I would recommend Amy’s version of the song because she put a more uptown vibe/beat to the jazzy hit song.

I prefer Jazmine’s version of the song, but it sounds more like a
Kim Burrell / Vanessa Bell Armstrong version of the song. Listening to this tells me why she chose secular over gospel. She sounds good, just not original!

Amy’s is best. Her voice fits better with the up-beat tempo. Jaz sounds like she’s whining kinda. She’s great though. Im def Team Jaz when its between the two of them as artists. But in this case, the song, the tempos under the lyrics, it goes to Amy. But Jazz’s track “I Need You” is fire! Better than anything Amy could put out.

I enjoy both versions, but I like Amy Winehouse’ s version better. This is the first time that I have heard any of Amy Winehouse’s music, beside the clips that are played about rehab on the news. She has good music and I am going to go buy some today.

I am a huge fan of Jazmine as well as Amy. There styles are different and unique in their own, but sorry Amy, Jazmine killed it. I mean from beginning to end she went completey off. This particular song sounds better with the slow, jazzy, mellow flow compared to Amy’s upbeat version.

Amy had a great band behind her …..but Jazmine had the Killer vocals. Jazmine took us back to Ella F., Sarah V. and Donny H. There voices where doing amazing things but it sound effortless like how Jazimine sounds. She’s the truth no imitation!!!!!!!!

Every time I here the start of Jazmines’ version I immediately want to change it to something else…but whe I finally let it play all the way through; I found it rather enjoyable…smooth and jazzy.

Amy Winehouse is not a favorite of mine. She sounds like she’s whining to me. She is well studied though. She does what she does well though. I’m not a hater, these are my personal likes and dislikes. I liked Jazmine from the very first line and all the way through. She does a few too many unnecessary runs though.

Before any one judges the two versions listen to Ella Fitzgerald’s version … please understand that there is no true comparison, but if you must compare the two Jazmine served true blues/soul music, Jazmine’s interpretation wins hands down!

Her version has much soul and depth. One CANNOT get this unless you’ve been oppressed, depressed, regressed and then blessed. Please don’t mistake her vibrato for runs. If you listen closely(or have musical ear) to her song, she has more of a vibrato which is extremely difficult to control. She also has the gift to do this song in sooooo many variety of styles.I know someone who has her tone almost exactly and she says it’s automatic with the vibrato in her vocal cords. Amy on the otherhand is limited to the jazzy version. She adds no seasoning to her version. YES race has a lot to do with it. Caucasians haven’t been through enough to add a sizzle to certain songs. Even the most soulful non-African American singer DOESN’T have the sultry we add to a song. One can sing this song with her version and still bring some flava(which she DOESN’T HAVE). Ella sang this song with an up tempo beat and sounds fabulous.

I can not choose. These are two very talented women. I like the fact that the two took a different approach. Although Amy Winehouse did have me at my computer vibing so. I don’t know maybe Ms. Winehouse gets it.

You cant compare the two. in that case throw in some of the jazz greats like billy and dinah crall or Ella, the one who made this tune poplular in the first place. every singer has their own taste style and range of what they can do. im an avid fan of both of these artists. so please lets be a little bit more open minded and appreciate everybody’s 2 cent to the musick game. Jazmin Sullivan’s version is better to me. Just because nobody can sing it the way she can. Alot of people can sing it the way Amy Winehouse can.
