POLITICAL ROUND UP: OBAMA CONDEMNS PASTOR’S COMMENTS / CLINTON APOLOGIZES TO BLACK VOTERS / BOTH AGREE TO PLAY NICER
Friday, March 14, 2008
( Photo: Trinity United Church of Christ )Sen. Barack Obama, writing on the Huffington Post, addressed the controversial remarks by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
“I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy,” Obama writes. “I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it’s on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.”
Shout out to CL Reader Tonya for the info.
CLINTON APOLOGIZES TO BLACK VOTERS

On Wednesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton, apologized for a comment made by her husband that many viewed as belittling the success of Sen. Barack Obama when he said that Jesse Jackson also won South Carolina when he ran for president in 1984 and 1988.
“I want to put that in context. You know I am sorry if anyone was offended. It was certainly not meant in any way to be offensive,” Clinton said. “We can be proud of both Jesse Jackson and Senator Obama.”
Earlier that day, Geraldine Ferraro stepped down from her role as a member of Clinton’s finance committee. On the subject of Ferraro’s remark that Obama is where he is because of his race, Clinton added:
“I certainly do repudiate it and I regret deeply that it was said. Obviously she doesn’t speak for the campaign, she doesn’t speak for any of my positions, and she has resigned from being a member of my very large finance committee.”
Clinton also apologized regarding the government’s efforts (or lack thereof) after Hurricane Katrina:
“I’ve said it publicly, and I say it privately: I apologize, and I am embarrassed that our government so mistreated our fellow citizens … It was a national disgrace,” she said.
BOTH AGREE TO PLAY NICER

On Friday, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama shed light on the private chat they had Thursday on the Senate floor. According to reports, the talk lasted three or four minutes in full view of reporters who could see them talking, but not hear what they were saying.
Clinton spokesman, Phil Singer, said:
“They approached one another and spoke about how supporters for both campaigns have said things they reject. They agreed that the contrasts between their respective records, qualifications and issues should be what drives this campaign, and nothing else.”
An Obama adviser gave a similar account stressing that it was Obama who approached Clinton. The adviser, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, also said they committed to making sure their supporters don’t get overheated in the future.

Did Anybody read the article that J. Dakar posted a link to under ‘Controversial Remarks’? It is extremely biased. I must say I agree with Wright’s comments and its sad that Obama has to dance around the fact that one of his closest advisors has spoken a truth that racist America didn’t want to hear.

Dayummmm….It’s too late and Millons of Bush dollars short Mrs. Clinton for your tired apology. You know CL peeps, I’ve said this from all long, even before I started believing in Obama, that this woman is disingenueous from almost two years now. I never forget MLK Day, two years ago. This woman had the audacity to “preach”and talk like she was Black, to the Abbyssian Baptist Church in Harlem…telling Black Folks “You know how he(Bush) be running both houses , like a slave plantation…Yall know what I mean”….NO MRS CLINTON…WE DON’T!!! The Clinton’s used Bill’s residency office in Harlem, to set the mark for HIllary to run for Senate in NYC…all the black folk and community came out in droves to support them…and after all the crookery during this election….all the Obama racial overtures……over a week after Geraldine…she now says she is SORRY!…YEAH…THE CLINTON’S ARE SORRY ALRIGHT!
I thought to myself for a min…hmm…..this has got to be the most digusting faux pas ish, I’ve seen in my life!
For too long and too many years, the Clinton’s have been playing on the intellegence of Black folk for too long….Until…..OBAMA! Thanks to this election, we have been able to truly see the Clinton’s for who they really are…..The Jessie Jackson issue with Bill and how that seemed to reseinate with what Geraldine Ferraro said about Jessie back then, and then Obama now…they “dance with the same wolves”…All of them. The Clinton’s are no different than the Bush’s.
Go online and look up the Carlyle Group and the Clintons…you find articles linking the Clinton Staffers and them to the Carlyle Group…which is owned by NONE other than Daddy Bush himself! All those times you saw Bill and G.Bush the on t.v. doing commericials for the Katrina and Tsumani victims…you thought they were just being kind and friends…NO MY PEOPLE…THE Clintons are connected to the Bush’s at the hip and this is why they will not release their tax returns…because the world will see over 20 million of the 50 million they netted last year, came from the Saudis’ and family members related to the Bin Laden’s….Time Magazine said last year…..”BIG BUSINESSES LOVE HILLARY”…..I just gave you some of the reasons why!
I am tired……It’s time for Hillary to sit down…I am for John Edwards for V.P. and Obama for President folks!
BTW…Obama really took Texas yall…The game is over Billary…no need to re-do Florida or Michigan…JUST SIT DOWN BILLARY!

Sorry #8 but Hilary won’t win the Republicans will see to that. They want her to be on the ticket and she WILL LOSE if she is. You say the U.S. won’t elect a Muslim in office, well, you think congress want a woman telling them what to do? It’s a no win situation. This campaign is only going to get uglier and I doubt Hilary or McCaine will play nice. Obama’s pastor just needs to keep his comments to himself and separate church from politics period.

“For too long and too many years, the Clinton’s (sic) have been playing on the intellegence of Black folk for too long….Until…..OBAMA! Thanks to this election…”
Yes, playing on our intelligence. Until now.
Funny how Black people so QUICKLY FORGET how closely, even fiercely, aligned we were with the Clinton administration just eight years ago.
Funny how so many of us–who now claim to hate everything Clintonian–once even went so far as to call Bill “America’s first Black President.”
FUNNY, LOL, how not taking the initiative to pull the PUBLIC DOCUMENTS that evidence all this “wrongdoing” (and STILL not pulling them now, I’d wager) isn’t seen as voter apathy and shiftlessness, but instead an evil plot by the Clinton family.
Wanna know what’s HILARIOUS? No one who believes so strongly that they made a mistake in voting for Bill wants to consider LEARNING FROM IT and taking a second thought on drinking Barack’s Kool-Aid.
Oh, we hate him now, yet in 1993, Bill Clinton could do no wrong, simply because we hadn’t had a Democratic President…in a while. Now, Barack Obama can do no wrong, simply because we haven’t had a Black President…yet. Let’s think about this thing, now.

What really disturbs me is that people on this site have the audacity to say they “agree” with the pastor and there is some “truth” to what he is saying. Which truth is that? This man is suppose to be a messenger of God but yet he is degrading himself, his congregation and the house of Lord by using the term “titties” “negro” “pimping” . What does Obama have to do with the Gospel? Why are political views being preached in the House of the Lord where the Lords house she be used for unity, righteousness, peace, spreading the word and anointment.
This man stands for nothing God like by his own actions he shows his arrogance and wicked heart. For shame the pastors are suppose to be the leaders of the community but instead of leading the community into holiness he spends his time spreading hate. Obama is a “Muslim” Obama has been a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ both of his daughter were baptised and he also stated he bases his life on the Gospel of Jesus. Regardless if he is Muslim one of our greatest Black Activist was a Muslim, Malcolm X. Disgusting he spreads lies within the house of the lord he Gossips, and Judges…If anyone is a follower of the Gospel this is sinful in the eyes of the Lord only God should Judge not humanity “ He without sin cast the first stone”. How dare this Rev downgrade Obama due to his heritage because his mother is white that makes Obama white trash? How can you belittle someone because their mother is white then praise a next man Bill Clinton who is an “ADULTERER”. This man is a lost soul and one can only help he finds the Lord.

You know I been saying the same stuff you have. These black people that just all of sudden think Hillary is a bitch and a racist and all this, they have no legitimate reason to hate her. I am so sick of the black community thinking that Barack Obama is going to be our savior or something. To me Hillary had nothing to apologize for, this women is being put through hell and still is going. I don’t care what nobody say, Obama put “race” in this race and he used to his advantage. It just amazes me how we (black people) loved Bill and Hillary so much before and all of sudden she is the biggest bitch alive and Bill is stupid. This whole nomination process in my view has bought out the worst in the black community. All I see from a lot of Obama’s supporters is hatred. Like if you not for him and you black you a uncle tom and if you white and not for him you are racist, man give me a break. As far as that pastor of his, at my church, my pastor just preaches the word and doesn’t preach about hateful things. So to the ones who agree with Wright and your pastor is like him, god bless you. One more thing, all you know if Hillary had a pastor that was preaching about blaming blacks for everything wrong with the world all hell would have broke loose.

It should read ” Obama condemns Pastor’s statements” — he did not the man, just disagreed with some the statements that he made. He really needs to be careful, because unlike Geraldine Ferraro, the pastor was not officially speaking on behalf on Barack’s campaign.
He cannot be responsible for everything that everyone he knows says, and just like most people –everyone you know and many of the people you are related to and love, don’t always share the same views.

Whatever Provost…”Faux Pas”, means out of cultural disconnect or poor taste in misrepresenting one’s culture/class…so whatever! I knew what I meant when I wrote it! It actually is : ignorance, obstinacy, or ill intent. I was stationed in Europe during Dessert Storm/Sheild, thus, I am very aware of what the word MEANS! I am educated and a very accomplished traveler! DAMN! It was Faux Pas of you to even snip at me with that garbage!
Secondly, I’ve and several Blacks and others always stated that Hillary is no “Bill Clinton”, because they are too entirely different people(she hailed from a Republican and ulta conservative family/background/Upper Class family…Bill did not). Yes, people was riding Bill’s jock strap when he was in the White House, however, I wasn’t one of them!!!!
As Veteran in the first Gulf War, and when I came back and I had to fight to get my benefits while Clinton was in office. He did not make it easy for Vets..I was one of the few Black folk who was not riding the jock strap of Bill…and far as Hillary, my statment and facts stand!
I cannot speak for the rest of Americans, in which if McCain and Clinton is all we have, and we have a brilliant, articulate and decent man who can try and bring change to this country and to the World…then I guess it would be Obama…Not because he is Black, which is our blessing, but the fact that the world has had enough of Dynasty ruling in this country…and it is time for the Clinton’s and Bush’s go sit down!

Funny how Barack does not agree with the pastor, but still remained a member for 20 years. That doesn’t sound like he disagreed too much. If I disagreed with my pastor’s beliefs or teachings I would switch membership - which I have in the past. That pastor should be ashamed of himself preaching that in church. Yes, what he said was true, but to put that mess in the house of the Lord is shameful. I hope Barack picks his friends a little more careful. This is now the 3rd person he’s been closely linked to that has caused him embarassment.

I might not be reading the right thing… Why are people so mad that Wright brought these things up in a church? Is a church not where you can speak the truth?
“We’ve got more black men in prison than there are in college,”
“Racism is alive and well. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run.”
“America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . .”
” We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . .”
” We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there.”
” We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.”
Are these not truths when it comes to America? I must have missed something because I am confused as to why people are so MAD Wright said these things in a church.

Today and this week we all have begun to learn a valuable lesson. Race is more than just a political word in this election — it is in fact a critical word in this election and like America it has a multi-layered and highly uncomfortable meaning– depending on who you ask. It’s time to educate ourselves as Black Americans, just as it’s time for those shocked, bewildered and offended by Rev. Wright’s words to join class — because it’s definitely in session. This isn’t simply an education to acknowledge that race and racism exists as we all know it does, regardless of color. It’s an education and a test to see if we are ready to discuss race in a way that strips away long held stereotypes and beliefs we all have– beliefs that some times prevent us from delving or focusing on the harder truth…facts. For instance, saying “white people are evil” is a belief. However, saying the prison population consists of 60% more Black, Latino men and women, than white men is a fact. Saying that “black people have no voice in American politics because nobody believes our voice matters” is a belief. But, saying that Barack Obama is only the third Black American elected to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction is a fact. So when we focus on the facts, they raise legitimate questions and concerns. Why do Blacks and Latinos, who represent 12% and 13% of the population, comprise the highest numbers in prison. Just considering the number of white people who comprise the US population, it is mathematically impossible. That last statement, folk, is my theory. However, research can be done to prove or disprove this theory. There are many more statistical facts just like these that can and should be raised. I say this to illustrate the difference between belief, fact, theory and research. Beliefs are not facts and facts are not theories. Make sense? Okay–read it again for clarity. Beliefs are not facts and facts are not theories. We must not view this campaign and the issues of race that come up as an opportunity for us to simply discuss our beliefs and emotionally show how upset and angry we are– we must begin to use it as an opportunity to present facts. Because the facts will shine a brighter light on fear. Fear despises truth. The Montgomery Bus Boycott — Black Americans were forced to sit in the back of the bus in a Jim Crow South. But, Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement stood up– or rather sat down in the front of the bus–to the fear and hate of deep seeded beliefs. It was a fact that black people were treated like second and third class citizens in many parts of this country during that period– some would argue still are. But, we had to act on this fact in a way that was bold, unified and intelligent. We had to stand in the face of fear and ignorance and react and respond with a collective sense of both intelligence and dignity. This too is a fact. The media showed it. As water hoses, billy clubs and gnarling attack dogs were blanketing blacks and whites who participated in the marches, the rallies and the sit-ins– no one who was being attacked, attacked back. This was not by accident. This was a strategy. Non violence was actually action because it evoked more anger in those who feared what the Civil Rights Movement represented. Progress. We had to rise above the fray and show what we always have been made of: survival, strength and change.
And I am proud to say each month I contribute to Barack’s campaign and will continue to do so. My support of him is not tied to his church attendance or spiritual adviser, my support comes from 1. My belief that he is the right person for right now in America’s history. 2. My research on his State Senate background (which I highly advise you do). 3. My research on his U.S. Senate background(which I highly advise you do). 3. My theory that someone who can electrify an entire political party, break all kind of campaign records (financial and supporter-based), win as many states as he has, be attacked by the media for basically being more “liked” by the media than his opponent, while also having to run against that same opponent, her husband and her daughter, while also fending off McCain, the fear-based Republicans who liken and link anything cultural about him to hate (name, Kenyan heritage, childhood he could not control), and still have the ability to rise above th fray and not call any of them any demeaning names.
It is from this perspective that I come to the conclusion that this man is the right person for this time in our country’s history. We don’t need someone out of touch, we need someone in touch. I’m still FIRED UP and ready to go!
Check the facts.
Barack Obama. 2008– President of the UNITED States of America.

FYI: SOME OF YOU ARE DISCUSSING DIFFERENT PASTORS. REVEREND WRIGHT IS THE PASTOR OF OBAMA’S AND AN OBAMA SUPPORTERCHURCH WHO IS ACCUSED OF MAKING INFLAMATORY, RACIST AND UNPATRIOTIC REMARKS. PASTOR MANNING IS A CLINTON SUPPORTER WHO MAKES SOME VERY FLAMBOUYANT STATEMENT ABOUT BARACK AND SEEMS TO ADMIRE BILL CLINTON’S CONTRIBUTIONS.
RIDICULOUSNESS has clearly become the theme for the coverage of the 2008 primaries. The media has run around digging up the pasts of every person who Obama has interacted with in hopes to defame his character and pressure him to denounce his association with these people. Since when does anyone have to be completely responsible and accountable for the thoughts and words of others? Let’s not forget what it means to be endorsed by someone. It means that the endorser believes in the values, ideas and positions of the endorsee. So Reverend Wright’s support for Obama and Pastor Hagee’s endorsement of McCain implies their belief in the candidates, not the other way around.
It not often, if ever, that two individuals agree on everything. When an individual member of congress doesn’t agree with a bill that has been passed they are not pressed to resign their positions. They remain and work within their abilities to have a positive affect and that is what people do when they disagree here-and-there with their minister. I don’t know anyone who agrees with everything that their pastor says or every decision their church makes. People don’t leave their congregation for petty reasons; only when they object to chief principles.
I don’t agree with everything said in the clips that were shown (and am pretty sure that some of it was out of context) but Dr. Wright did not say anything racist or divisive. When you speak to empower you race, that does not mean that you are speaking against any other race. Acting to support and uplift your community does not belittle or exclude other communities. Hannity admits that he doesn’t agree with everything that McCain says, but he is not denouncing the republican party and is certainly not voting for a democratic candidate, so stop being hypocritical. Neither Louis Farrakhan, Tony Rezko nor Jeremiah Wright are political officials. They do not affect political policy or Obama’s political views. None of these people offer to resolve the problems that face the United States and discussion about them is irrelevant and counterproductive to this campaign.
I cannot believe that you all are so willing to waste time digging up Obama’s kindergarten paper’s, distorting Michelle’s college thesis and piecing together sound bites of Reverend Wright instead of talking to candidates about their political views and positions. The news media has been so influenced by cries that the media isn’t hard enough on Obama that they all are acting desperately to make something out of nothing. They should stop being so trivial, especially with the dire issues facing America and the importance of this campaign.

We’ll see how long the truce lasts! Besides Camp Hillary has been 1000% responsible for starting all the fighting. Ferraro dissed Obama in the exact same way she dismissed Jessie Jackson 20 years ago, ‘they wouldn’t be where they are had they not been Black”. Remember when Obama wasn’t Black enough? Obama has really gone out of his way to be nice to her. If it was me I would’ve wanted to slap her, but that’s why I’m not running for office. What a double standard for the MSM to focus on Rev White’s sermons as some sort of proof of Barack being anti-American when John MCain has had Hagee as one of his personal advisors for years with barely a mention. I really hope people see past the smoke and mirrors. I’m already hearing the same type of pundit opinions offered as facts on how wrong it is and that means Obama is divisive and they want to throw in some old skool hatred of Farrakhan for measure. Had Obama wanted to run a negative campaign he could’ve focused on diminishing HRC’s stature by saying she was just a wife or that she only stayed married to Bill so she could run for office; he could’ve brought up all the past scandals and even the current fraud case; he could insist on her releasing the tax returns while saying ‘as far as he knows’ she isn’t hiding anything; mention all her ties to the Republican party; talk about she was actually holding women back; and he could have had all the people that wrote books criticizing the Clintons issue statements….and say he had no control over someone else’s opinion. But he hasn’t done that. True, he’s no savior nor is he trying to be. DIdn’t he say ‘we are the ones we’ve been waiting for’? So many people are involved in this election cycle and we all feel personally invested and that’s a great thing! But I am tired. All of this garbage is causing major fatigue. Our country is going down the toilet unless we do something to address the wrongs. I lived in Europe in 2003. The Euro was worth .85 cents…now it’s $1.50. The UK pound is now $2.00. Crime is up. School tuition is out of reach for a lot of people and the PELL grant has stalled at $4K per year which barely covers a semester if that. Minimum wage does not match the cost of living. Parents who need to work do not have adequate and affordable child-care. People are losing their homes. Airfare is ridiculously expensive with crappy service - peanuts and soda for a 5 hour flight is insane! Ok…so can we move on from all the nonsense and focus on getting our quality of life back?

Good that Hilary cleared whatever up, but come on you 35 years of experience should of told you to be careful what you say.Good luck to her though, no hate here.
Good for Obama and Hilary. As conservative as this country is, I’m happy for them.

#50 - Obama claims christianity -
From his own words….
OBAMA IS A PRACTICING CHRISTIAN
Obama Has Been A Member Of Trinity United Church Of Christ For Twenty Years. Monroe Anderson stands up for Reverend Wright’s ministry, “For the past two decades, Barack Obama has been a faithful member of the congregation at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ.” [Chicago Sun-Times, Monroe Anderson, 3/25/07]
Obama Was Baptized And Attends Church Once a Week When He is Able. In the Audacity of Hope, Obama wrote, “I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ one day and be baptized.” In 2004, he “attend[ed] the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Trinity in the Brainerd neighborhood every week — or at least as many weeks as he is able. His pastor, Wright, has become a close confidant.” When asked about his decision to be baptized, Obama said “Kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side of Chicago, I felt I heard God’s spirit beckoning me,” he said of his walk down the aisle of the Trinity United Church of Christ. “I submitted myself to his will and dedicated myself to discovering his truth.” [Audacity of Hope, p.208, Chicago Sun Times, 4/5/04; AP 6/28/06]
Obama Reads The Bible, Finds Time to Pray On Campaign Trail. The Chicago Sun-Times wrote, “Obama says he reads the Bible, though not as regularly as he’d like, now that he’s on the campaign trail. But he does find time to pray. ‘It’s not formal, me getting on my knees,’ he says. ‘I think I have an ongoing conversation with God… I’m constantly asking myself questions about what I’m doing, why I am doing it.’” [Chicago Sun Times, 4/5/04]
Obama Held His Personal Bible When He Was Sworn-In As A U.S. Senator. “…Even before the makeshift office was up and running in the basement of a Senate building, even before he raised his hand Tuesday to take the oath of office as the junior senator from Illinois, Barack Obama was already a political rock star and a celebrated new face in Congress. He arrived Tuesday, his first official day in the Capitol…. In the circles he runs in now, celebrity status is checked at the cloakroom door…When it was finally time to take the oath, he held his personal Bible, as family from as far away as Kenya watched from the visitors’ gallery above. His daughters, Malia, 6, and Sasha, 3, in velvet dresses and patent leather shoes, bounced in their chairs when he looked up and waved.” [Los Angeles Times, 1/5/05]
DEBUNKED: Email Purporting to Be From Obama on Islam
In recent weeks a fraudulent email has circulated purporting to be from Senator Obama about Islam. Read the retraction The Muslim Observer wrote when they learned the letter wasn’t true.
Obama Letter Retraction
January 23, 2008
Last week (Volume 10 Issue 4) we printed an article, supposedly a letter by Senator Barack Obama, which detailed his childhood and his relations with Muslims and Islam over the years. The letter had been sent to us by a trusted friend of TMO. The letter seemed to us perfectly attuned to the sensibilities of Muslims, even though it clearly declared his actually being a Christian and not a Muslim.
It came to our attention shortly after our mass emailing last week that the letter was a fraud, actually written by a blogger named Umar Lee. The letter was widely circulated after being written by Mr. Lee, becoming “viral” in the emails of Muslims and this in fact is the way we received it. By the time we received it the letter did not have Umar Lee’s signature at the bottom; the email said in fact that the letter had been sent to CAIR as an explanation of Obama’s background.
We wish to print some statement on the issue from the Obama campaign. Therefore, we have made approximately 10 calls to different offices of the Obama campaign since Monday morning; we have left our contact information on every voicemail; we spoke at length with one volunteer for the campaign (who is not authorized to speak on behalf of the campaign) who explained that he thought the campaign staff might consider it unwise to respond on such an issue. We left two voice messages with Michael Ortiz, Senator Obama’s federal press secretary, and left one message with his campaign press office. But as of this writing, we have heard nothing from the campaign.
We at TMO are deeply embarrassed by what has happened, and because of this event we will implement changes in our policies regarding verification of outside submissions. Since we have limited staff and time for verification, we will be forced to rely more on our own paid writers and our subscription to news services rather than outside submissions.

I could care less about Hillary, she ain’t gonna win, this is still a man’s country, but as for Obama, I can’t believe no one is condemning him for this bullshit. Homeboy threw his own pastor who he said is like a uncle to him under the bus, saying stupid shit like i don’t share his viewpoints, wat fucking viewpoints, you mean the damn truth, was his pastor wrong to say that American does not deserve some damnation for the corruption of the past and present that made this country a dream for some and a nightmare for most, was he wrong when he said Black men and women have been treated like less than humans and that rich white men run this country, or that at this very moment our war is Killing INNOCENT PPL as we fight Terrorism, come the fuck on. We are all comfortable over here because we fight our battles on other ppls soil, talking nonsense about gas prices, while mothers have to watch their babies die abroad in the name of protecting America’s freedom. So i don’t just day Fuck Obama but also Fuck most of u as well. Also part of Obama’s campaign of Change is based on saying we have to get past our disfigured history and move on and dat irritates me because it is the same shit the majority of white folk say in this age of subtle racism. America has way too much blood on its hands to think you can change it by simply trying to not focus on it and move forward, because you have this delusional idea that the bastard ppl that exist today do not see color, ppl don’t change, right now the serpent of racism is taking a slight hibernation but it didn’t die. I used at least like Obama as a person to a some extent, even though i don’t care much for politicians but now i just think he is spineless, well an Uncle Tom, i don’t care if shit cost u the election, say what needs to be said, whats more important your dignity as not merely just a black man, but a man or becoming the next doomed Caesar of present day Rome. I guess he answered my question with his attitude to what his pastor said, so once again i say Fuck him and all those that like to live in a world where the slave mentality reigns supreme. Also most ppl just state the problem, but i will go a step further by giving a solution, my answer to change America is to burn it down, repent to God, and start over from scratch with a new humbled attitude, that is the only way to truly move forward. And if u respond to me, read everything i wrote first and if i am wrong about anything i am man enough to concede.

Pastor Wright said nothing wrong. He only spoke the truth. It’s important for me to post this so people will know that the media can’t fool everyone! We will not be easily influenced by the media or Clinton. Obama is a movement and right now…they are trying to take all of the tricks out the bag to defeat him. They are trying to discredit him by the words of his pastor…is Obama running for president or is Wright running?
Obama has won 30 out of 44 states as of today. His latest victory was in Mississippi. A place where Obama wouldn’t have been able to safely walk the streets 60 years ago. Doesn’t that mean something if this man is winning in states that were once extremely racist? Obama is “the peoples champ!”
Right now Hillary is 14-30. Would your favorite team make the playoffs if their record was 14-30 compared to a team that’s 30-14?
Obama also has 1,411 delegates to Clintons 1,250. Let’s focus on the facts. We know how it is in the corporate world…everything must be on paper. Obama has his “stuff” tight on paper! Facts are facts…Obama is winning.
A change will happen whether people like it or not. Get with it…or get lost.

hold on i thought this was politics. you know, ppl playing dirty? isn’t that what politics are about? you ppl act like hillary started the trend when the truth is politics have always been cut-throat and ppl don’t play nice in politics. if they’re not “playing dirty”, they are probably doing something else like hiding something or lying a little or (like obama) fooling ppl. i like obama and i’m voting for him but i don’t think he’s the 2nd coming like most ppl on this site. he will not change a thing. he’s just gonna be better than bush which is good enough for me. but he’s a politician and he knows how to play ppl and his platform is about making believe that change will actually come when he knows it won’t. the government is not a one-man show. he might WANT to change something but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen b/c there are others in the government besides him (hint: congress, the supreme court etc). i can’t believe ppl actually think change is coming lol

If you want to run for president, you have to expect to have your past and your relationships scrutinized. The media should treat Obama like all the other candidates. Clinton sure had his passed exposed when he ran for office and the press has already brought up McCain and his possible affair with one of his supporters.
Every time Obama has his past or his relationships brought up, people cry racism. It would be racist not to bring it up based on skin color. If the other candidates can get criticized then so can Obama. Besides, I want him to make his views clear so that there is no doubt about the type of man that will be the next president.
By the way, how is the US responsible for Mandela being in prison. That pastor acts like all evil is in the US. I got news for him, every country has evil. Every government takes advantage of its people on some level. Absolute power corrupts…

DATDUDE — Obama did not throw anyone under a bus, he spoke the truth. Isn’t that what we are all called to do, Or is it only pastor’s who get to say whatever they want, and those who disagree are to keep quite. If that is the case, then that is not a church, that is a dictatorship. Obama said that he rejected, the racist remarks, as well as anti-American remarks his pastor had said in 2 sermons (which the pastor had given when Obama was NOT in attendance at the church), Obama said “I reject them completely - they are not ones that reflect my values or my ideals or Michelle’s.”
Obama is a man with a white mother, two white sisters, and two white grandparents, who helped to raise him, why should Obama be okay with a man (regardless of if he is a pastor or not), saying anything derogatory about white people. The Bible does not teach that! Are pastors not responsible for preaching what Jesus himself would say, and try tt say it in manner that would be pleasing to God. Pastors don’t have a right to insult, any of God’s children, whether they are black or white.
It seems Obama’s pastors has only made inflammatory, and insulting remarks on a couple occasion, so it is obvious that he knows how to preach, and get his message across without insulting others.
There is a way of bringing up the real injustices that people, black people are facing (around the world), by simply stating the facts! No pastor needs to inject any words that he or she would not say in front of God himself. Preaching does not need to be filled with rage to be effective. Preaching should be filled with the pastor offering his congregation ideas of how to bring about justice, where there is none. Telling them what positive things they THEMSELVES can do to bring about that change, rather than wating for those who do not have those issues on their to do lists, to finally do it.
There are issues in a society that affect black people, that black pastors can discuss without disparaging anyone, and that is what Obama feels, and that is what is right!
If the pastor wants to be offended that another human being is tell him that his words were inflammatory, and that he does not agree with it, a pastor should be able to listen to that. Alot of pastors have begun to believe that they are perfect, and are not capable of making mistakes. Their egos are far far bigger than their humbleness. Alot of them have begun to buy their own hype, forgettng that they are God’s servant. That is who they serve, and who they should always strive to please, both in words, and deeds.

I would be curious to know just how many Americans even know what church our current President attends, what his religious affiliation is and what types of sermons he is hearing on Sunday mornings? Afterall, President Bush did say God had moved him to engage in some of his own very frightening policies. I just think it is ridiculous to hold Senator Barack Obama accountable for the strong beliefs held by his former pastor. We have a unique opportunity in electing Senator Obama as our next President of the United States of America because he will be the first president that will be held to a much a higher standard because of his race. I have the Audacity to Hope that the American people are much smarter than the media gives them credit to be. Senator Obama will finally bring true integrity to the office of the President. At least, he can apologize and take the low road when the situation requires it - I HAVEN’T SEEN THIS TYPE OF HUMILITY FROM ANY POLITICAL CANDIDATE IN MY ENTIRE LIFETIME.

This is my first time on here and it always suprises me that we as people always make a excuses for poor behavior and bad associations.
Both candidates are running for pres. and we continue to assume that associations are not important. This election won’t be determined by the Obama supports or Clinton supports. It will be determined by people in the people who don’t identify with either candidate. The people in the middle will not make the same excuses we are regardless of reasoning.
You don;t have to go to church every week to know what a pastor should e preaching about. It is no reason I can imagine supporting a church with a long history of racial bigotry and ignorance and these statements are just the beginning of what is to come.

Wat are u folks talking about especially #61 and those that agree with wat she said, how can u say that particular pastor is being a racial bigot, wat did he do to deserve such a label, did he say all white people deserve to die, did he say he hates white people, or did he say that black people are better than white people. He said none of these things, all he did was state some of the issues that black ppl have faced and continue to face, albeit to a smaller degree today. Look I don’t agree with all pastors or the way some of them go about things and if he was wrong i would say he was wrong, thats the type of person I am, but for the life of me I can’t understand what he said that was racist, please give me a specific example of anything he said that shows bigotry. Obama knew this man for twenty years, forget about his sermons, ur gonna tell me he never said anything like this around him for all those years, shit every older black man i know say at least some of these things on a regular, because they went through some real things in the past. And as for America, i know other countries are not that much better in regards to their history, but i never said that they were not damned too, because they are. So there is your answer, i have no discrimination in what i believe, if America has to fall, so does its mother, father, brother, sisters…etc ..the whole damn family tree. Remember America is still nothing more than the seemingly rebellious child of European parentage.

At the same time, I really do agree with a lot of what the retired Reverend Wright says, and actually, deep down I think Obama does too, but he knows that to agree to such things would create a poor image for him. But I hope that rev. wright continues to stay close to Obama and have an impact on him. Black people are not stupid, by no means. Maybe ignorant to the facts, but not stupid.

oh yeah guys apparently the whole thing about having more black men in college than in prison is a myth. if you consider the age group for college (18-24) and then compare that age group with the black 18-24 year olds in prison, you’ll find that there are more in college. obviously there are going to be more black men in prison if you don;t take age group into account. i think that’s the only statement (besides the statement that we started AIDs) the pastor made that was wrong/refutable. the rest is true

@datdude he didn’t say anything racist BUT the same way that ppl are extra sensitive when someone says something about a black person, ppl are sensitive about jewish ppl. the fact that he talked about israel and palestine and made the israelis looked bad, makes white ppl think he is anti-semitic.
