HOT OR NOT: MUFFY - “SWEET”

Friday, March 14, 2008

♫ Muffy - Sweet!

House/pop princess Muffy has been making a huge noise on the Atlanta hipster scene with not just her music and performances, but her bubbly personality and quirky sense of style. Muffy, a New Jersey native, is best known for her infectious beats and rap-sing, cute tone. Many who come in contact with her have called her the black Gwen Stefani, but Muffy definitely is ready to make her own mark. The song “Sweet” has been spun heavily in the dance scene down here, and has garnered her a lot of attention.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the girl perform, and I must admit, I love her energy. But first we’ve gotta ask you: Is it hot or not?

If you’re digging the sounds of Muffy, make sure you check her out on MySpace, show her some love, check out some more tunes and tell her Brian from CL sent you!

I like it! Its definitely different. I think she will do great overseas…like Japan. They would love her out there. I like it for what it is, she’s a teenager not 30 years old…so her music will have a different feel to it. I like it.

The beginning of it reminds me that early 80’s song “Hey Mickey” . I guess that’s why I like it too.

I LOVE Muffy!! She’s number one on my itunes! I’ve seen her perform and she’s great!! It a shame that when you have such a talent and are avant garde that people misunderstand that. Of course everyone can’t be a trendsetter so don’t let the “lemmings” get you down they’ll be singing your songs in their sleep give them time. I love your work and I look forward to hearing more of your music KEEP IT COMING!!!

Well it seems there’s overwhelming dislike for this girl. I think it’s cute. Most music today is about catchiness, not depth. I think it’s young and so is she, so I’d like to see what she can do. Besides, Beyonce (plus many more I can’t think of at the top of my head) didn’t make it big her first time around (Girl Tyme), granted she was part of a group and Muffy is a solo artist… I’d like to give her a chance.

SMH first of all this sound is not different. She is hopping on the urban hipster movement to be different when in actuality it is not different. I’m so tired of these posers coming in the game thinking they different because they wear mis match colors lol. By the time this movement is over she will back wearing the clothes she wore before. She is whack I’m sorry. What’s even more whack is people thinking it’s different when it has been a trend for awhile lol. She’s like Kid Sister. Making club hip-hop music. I will appluad her for grinding and making it. However I’m not feeling it sorry :(

This is why I wished I was born in the 60’s when music was really music…the music had a statement behind it and artist weren’t copying off of one another…I can’t believe that any record label would allow this girl to sing such nonsense…I refuse to support her or any other teeny bopper singing pure fuckery on the radio.

Brian was referring to the electro-dance scene in Atlanta. Its not mainstream music in anyway. Its meant for that crowd. Its catchy, cute and different. Not something I would botther to listen to, but whatever, do you Muffy!

Saturday, March 15, 2008 /

this is not a “new” thing. Anybody who knows music knows that this isn’t “groundbreaking”. And its not hate - its called truth. With the state of music right now, sales on a song like this wont break the amount it cost to promote and produce the song (and I’m sure this hasn’t even been mastered yet)

Just because users post an opinion opposite of yours does not mean they are not talented, nor does it mean that they are over 30. If people feel it, they feel it, if they don’t, they don’t.

So sure, put lots of money behind her promotion, lots of shows, she may become popular, I concede that. But that is not the case here, everyone has a myspace, any musician can get their music reviewed on the internet, there is no overwhelming budget driving this subpar song - so, it remains subpar, until proven otherwise. Shes no different than every other myspace user with some producer connects, singing/rap/talking, thinking their sh*t is hot when its not.

If the rest of her music bangs then cool, but this song, hmm - no dice, not feelin it…

LMAO! at people thinking that the electro-dance scene is underground and it’s been popular in Atlanta. No it wasn’t Atlanta. Chicago, L.A., and New York have all been following this trend that has been very popular. I know the UK bought it back in 03′ and it was called the Kesh Movement. M.I.A. and many other UK rappers was dressing like this for awhile and people though it was whack. I swear people are trend hoppers today including Muffy, Kid Sister, and The Cool Kids. This style if you want to be technical was in the early 90’s. They ain’t doing nothing different but bringing it back and got people on here who actually believe that is different. She is doing club hip/hop music. Nothing different. I respect her hustle like many other myspace musicians however she ain’t new. Also to compare her to Janelle Monee is also an overstatement. I agree that Janelle has alot of energy as well as Muffy. However Janelle made an conceptual album and used her character Cyndi Mayweather as underlining political message. Listen to “Many Moons” and “Sincerely Jane” and you will understand. I’m not hating on Muffy she probably a cool girl. It’s just that people tend to label things that are new and refreshing with out realizing that they are trend hopping and it ain’t different..

blog+opinion= so what it does not matter, its just like buy it or not, listen or don’t listen, expression is what it is. Doing something is always better than doing nothing.
so when you express a feeling that is negative give a positive solution. And stop donkeying around and move towards different!!!

P.S. Hating is not original

I don’t see why all these people (grown too) like soulja boy and all the sound alikes but won’t give this a chance. Everything is gonna sound like something eventually. Pathetic Attempt!! This is some Boy George and throw back Madonna crap!! It makes not a piece of sense..If she didn’t have her voice all screwed up with that wierd anime cartoon sound…EVERYONE WOULD JUST CALL IT HOODRAT MUSIC!! I mean listen to what she is saying!! This song has no content…there are too many elementary school kids who could have jumped on this track and made the same impact. They could have talked about their crayola colored kicks with their Spongebob backpack to match. I’d rather bump that!

First off.. The beat maker was a lil creative. But Muffy…Not So Much.. Everything she is saying, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Shawnna, Remy Ma, Trina, Rasheeda, Khia, Jacki-O, Mia X, Diamond, Princess and plenty of other female rappers have already said.. She just slapped an irritating ass beat behind it. She could have flipped it but she said almost their exact words.

This isn’t talent CASSIE could have done this!! Hell Sanjaya could have too and he is a lot prettier!!

Its a sweet pile of smelly horse ISH if you ask me!! Two thumbs up to #21 and # 89 I feel ya!!

Chile what the fuck is this mess? This is absolute GARBAGE. Hot, smelly, 3 day old garbage. What is she trying to prove? The beat and melody is annoying along with her nasally high pitched voice. My ears have never experienced such pain. Why did I have to go through this torture?

SHE IS NOWHERE NEAR GWEN STEFANI

She could never hope to be the Black Gwen Stefani. Not with that wack ass generic voice and bad taste in clothes and hair wigs.

There is nothing unique or different about this. It sounds a hot mess, and if I was her friend I would’ve slapped her acrossed the face and said bitch you a godamn fool for this mess.

As a DJ that plays all over the country (and the world), I get it! Truth is, I’ve dropped some of Muffy’s cuts in the mix and THEY WORK! The floor stays jumpin’ and that’s the bottom line! R&B is STALE! Most underground rap is too busy being “true school” to really move forward. The music out now could have been out 2 years ago! No one’s pushing the envelope anymore. I applaud Muffy and the like.

There once was a time when people always wanted to hear something new. Now everyone wants to hear carbon copy’s of what they already hear on the radio. It sucks for me as a DJ and music in general. Your ears have been bought and paid for!

I love The Cool Kids, J Davey, Sa Ra, Platinum Pied Pipers, Proton, Kid Sister, Spank Rock, JimiJames AND YES, MUFFY! They represent innovation! That’s waht we need!

The DESTROYER

Sunday, April 27, 2008 /

Anyone who posted in support of this fashion-rap-no talent for music artistry needs to be drenched in gasoline and set ablaze.
You people are imbeciles…how in the world does “black” music need this?
Black people have been making the most progressive music for years….and I’m not talking about our recent years in HIP HOP and R&B.
Here is the problem…she has no talent and I’m 217% sure she is doing this shit for straight profit and Myspace fame…

Now Gwen Stefani is a product of one of the best Ska bands of all time….people don’t forget. She paid her mufuckin dues and then went on to make garbage. I pardon her…

You suck as people if you will allow this mediocre bullshit to go anywhere. Take a look at your parents music catalog…Muffy is embarassing to ATLiens and Black PEOPLE. Is it really even worth dancing to? I like to dedicate a “get the fuck outta here” to everyone who claims to do something different.

THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN…
THE AGE OF CREATION HAS ENDED…
EVERYTHING THIS POINT ON IS PURE DUPLICATION.

Well, i didn’t get to read all the comments the first time…

Yes, we know she really isn’t doing anything new in terms of fashion, style and genre.

But music is just expression; whether it be political undertones or nonchalant gold-digging.
Thats the beauty of it all.
You find what you like or relate to and groove on it.

So, with that said, Go Muffy!
If you don’t like it, just don’t listen.
