MAG COVERS: ALICIA / LEBRON / JANET

Alicia Keys covers the April issue of German Cosmopolitan magazine. The singer/actress is currently in Germany on Tour. Peep the candids of her leaving her tour bus on Wednesday.

LeBron James is the third man ever to appear on the cover of Vogue. The other two were Richard Gere (with Cindy Crawford in 1992) and George Clooney (with Gisele Bundchen in 2000). Not really feeling this cover, they couldn’t put dude in a suit? It’s Vogue for goodness sake.

Janet Jackson is featured over the newest cover Black book magazine. The star has been sick with the flu this week and had to cancel a scheduled appointment on SNL. Mariah Carey is replacing her, but I’m sure she’ll be back when she feels better. See another pic here.

Doesn’t that LeBron Cover remind you of King Kong cluthing his blonde haired blue eyed token? C’mon Bron Bron, You gotta say no sometimes

Not feeling that Lebron pic AT ALL. Lebron is straight up perpetuating a stereotype (that of the brutal, wild savage) that helped enslave, lynch, and murder hundreds of THOUSANDS of our black men for centuries… and I’m just supposed to be content because he made it onto “massa’s” magazine?! Take that weak shit somewhere else.

This is 2008 y’all, get the hell outta the plantation. Despite whatever “pride” we may feel covering VOGUE, if it’s a negative image, it’s a negative image, period. We have to continue to demand respect and dignity. The more and more we let shit go, even if it’s small things, the more people feel it’s okay to be racist.

Alicia Key’s cover is plain and boring, but she looks beautiful.

Lebron’s looks alright. can’t believe he’s on Vogue. NICE TWIST!

JANET’S COVER IS FIERCE!!! PUTS THE OTHER COVERS TO SHAME! I LIKE INNOVATION AND THE OUTSIDE THE BOX FEEL TO IT! WORK THAT SHIT J!

@86 i completely agree with you that the media consider the biracial women
as one of the most beautiful women in the world Alicia Keys,Keyshia Cole even Beyonce because her mother is of cerole descent so you know there’s white in her family. and especially my baby Halle. what about Gabrielle Union Sanaa Lathan,Nia Long, Angela Bassett. Sure they’re called beautiful but not to the same level these other women….. oh why don’t mariah carey acknowledge she’s half black?

    ………..oh and rihanna

@ 53…..Please not I said hiphop and R&B clubs. I pretty sure she get played at pop clubs/gay clubs because the gay community loves Janet. But, here in FLA she is not in rotation.

    Wow at these comments lol

Well Alicia keys looks nice on the cover

    Janet looks Fierce

Lebron? I’m not feeling the cover either. I want to ask everyone a question in here. Would you guys feel the same way of Giselle was black? Would you guys then say he is perpetuating a stereotype? Just a question although I feel what everyone is coming from.

  9. I agree Gisele does NOT look good in this photo.
Alicia looks GREAT! I just got tickets to her concert in Atlanta, SO EXCITED! Get it Alicia!

I, too, despise that LeBron cover. King Kong was the FIRST thing that popped in my head. It’s not a coincidence that a lot of other people did to.

We can complain to each other…but what does that do? Hit up VOGUE and let them know. The email address is talkingback@vogue.com. It don’t take nothing to just copy and paste your message and send it to ‘em

I also posted a comment on their message board @:

    Alicia is HOTTTT…

That Vogue cover is RACIST as hell!

i’m not sure i like the janet cover. i took a class about advertising where i learned that the media often portrays minority women, especially black ones, as animals. by having her in a cage, i think the picture is just proof of that. it’s definitely creative and artistic, but i wonder if it means something more…
