Recently, Teyana Taylor, who has been nicknamed the Teen President, had an interview with TheSingersRoom, where she gave a little insight into her debut album, From A Planet Called Harlem.
Singersroom: It’s becoming increasingly obvious that you are completely different than any other artist out right now. Can you explain the direction and sound of your debut album?
Teyana Taylor: Well, for my album, it’s called From A Planet Called Harlem, it’s kind of like my own world of Harlem world. It’s like us coming together and collaborating. Everyone who wants to visit says, “Yeah, I want to go to New York!” We got that swag. From the walk to the talk to the way we dress. It’s kind of like our own little planet. So, I named the album From a Planet Called Harlem and it’s so dope because I worked with so many different producers with so many different styles. So, my music is coming from so many different directions as far as rapping, urban, rock, a little bit of jazz. It’s really, really a great little look and there a lot of different great songs.
Teyana also let The Singer’s Room know that her album will be dropping this summer, on the 20th of May, via Star Trak/Interscope, and that she’s been busy doing showcases all over the United States.
From A Planet Called Harlem will feature productions from The Clutch, Hit Boy, The Neptunes and of course, Jazze Pha, who is responsible for Teyana’s first single, “Google Me.” I’m excited to see what my girl’s album is going to sound like. DANITY KANE’S DOLLHOUSE GOES #1
Danity Kane scores big again by snagging the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, after releasing their sophomore album, Welcome to the Dollhouse.
Aubrey, D. Woods, Dawn, Aundrea and Shannon moved 236,000 copies of their sophomore set, an impressive debut after a few weeks of disappointing numbers from some other albums that debuted at the #1 spot. This is their second #1 debut: their debut album, Danity Kane moved 234,000 copies in the album’s first week.
After the Making the Band 4 season finale, we find out that there will be another season of the show and the girls are set to go out on tour with the boys of Day 26, whose album was released just on the 25th, as well as solo act Donnie, whom we’re still waiting on a release date for.
I’m glad the sophomore hump didn’t beat my girls out and they’re getting the love they deserve. I like Danity Kane – there’s no other female group out there doing it like them.
KANYE GETTING SUED
In a lawsuit filed in Maryland District Court, Dayna Staggs (aka D’Mystro) is suing Kanye West — and his record label, Roc-a-Fella — for copyright infringement. Staggs says that West “didn’t obtain a license to use ‘Volume of Good Life’” for his tune, and points out that Kanye was “only at the age of 6 or 7 years of age [sic]” when his song was written.
D’Mystro is also states that Kanye’s version “contains vulgar and offensive” images and “harms the reputation” of his much cleaner song. He wants 85% of all world sales of the proceeds from the music that uses his work, though he doesn’t explain how he came up with that number [ READ MORE ].
That’s good for Danity Kane. I like them.

I’m so happy for Danity Kane. I have the album and it is fire. I’m not even a huge pop type of person but I loved their first album and loving the second. I think my favorite songs are Strip tease and Poetry they have a great haromious sound. Congrats to them for getting over the sophomore hump. I’m sure it won’t take them long to go platinum again.

Sound scan is a fraud! There is no way that Danity Kane is legitimately number one with no radio airplay and not rotation. I believe BAD BOY is buying back their album and that the instores are double and triple scanning.

well frankly dk didnt need radioplay or promotion because of the simple fact that they had this thing called a tv show in their corner,nobody needed a single,all they knew was that dk is coming back out and they got to see the process of the album,unlike other artist who might need about a month or two of radio play before even thinking about coming out with a cd……..but hey you could be right,anythings possible in the music industry.

To No. 9 – Have you not heard Damaged and seen the show- that’s promotion in itself. People knew far in advance when their album was dropping. Since the music industry is so fickle these days- its good they did that for a 2nd CD.

Love TT. I really want her to do well. In my opinion, that May 20th release date is slightly premature. There is a buzz around her but the label needs to create a supa dupa one (like Rihanna-esque), then I belive she will shift some serious units. If not u dont know. I agree with #34……I didn’t have much faith and liking to Danity Kane when the group was first formed, but these girls proved that they are FIYAH……They will most definitely go platinum with this album, just as well as they did on their first album (just watch)! You just can’t hate on any group or solo act that goes platinum twice! They sell because they bring something different than any other female group……..I like them more than i liked Destiny’s Child….they most definitely dance WAAAY better and more technical than DC, and i actually like their live performances a lot better! Give them about another year…..and they will be unstoppable! I’m so glad these girls have proved that their can be a successful girl group that brings pure HOTNESS! Dawn is most definitely the glue that holds the group together…..She is just crazy talented!

Well. if I made an ORIGINAL song and melody and someone used it without my permission, I’d want my money as well.
I like most of Kanye’s music, but he needs to do his homework before doing these songs. This is the second time he has been sued for copying someone. It’s looking sloppy on his part and on the part of the label.
The video for Good Life was HOT AS HELL, by the way. It reminded me of dat Khia video for that Snatch The Cat song she did.
Actually # 8 she DOES have a lacefront (or a weave). there were pics of her recently with neck length relaxed hair that looked pretty damaged. Now I dont know if she had alot of hair and then damaged it with the relaxer, and now she wears weaves that are similar to her real hair. Or if she just likes wearing curly afro wigs/weaves. When will these artist come correct and get legal to ensure every i and t are dotted and crossed. I am a lawyer and I would never let my client possible lose earnings because I fail to get a release. If any of this is true, the label should fire its legal team connected to the release of the song without proper written release by the original artist.
