Recently, Teyana Taylor, who has been nicknamed the Teen President, had an interview with TheSingersRoom, where she gave a little insight into her debut album, From A Planet Called Harlem.
Singersroom: It’s becoming increasingly obvious that you are completely different than any other artist out right now. Can you explain the direction and sound of your debut album?
Teyana Taylor: Well, for my album, it’s called From A Planet Called Harlem, it’s kind of like my own world of Harlem world. It’s like us coming together and collaborating. Everyone who wants to visit says, “Yeah, I want to go to New York!” We got that swag. From the walk to the talk to the way we dress. It’s kind of like our own little planet. So, I named the album From a Planet Called Harlem and it’s so dope because I worked with so many different producers with so many different styles. So, my music is coming from so many different directions as far as rapping, urban, rock, a little bit of jazz. It’s really, really a great little look and there a lot of different great songs.
Teyana also let The Singer’s Room know that her album will be dropping this summer, on the 20th of May, via Star Trak/Interscope, and that she’s been busy doing showcases all over the United States.
From A Planet Called Harlem will feature productions from The Clutch, Hit Boy, The Neptunes and of course, Jazze Pha, who is responsible for Teyana’s first single, “Google Me.” I’m excited to see what my girl’s album is going to sound like. DANITY KANE’S DOLLHOUSE GOES #1
Danity Kane scores big again by snagging the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, after releasing their sophomore album, Welcome to the Dollhouse.
Aubrey, D. Woods, Dawn, Aundrea and Shannon moved 236,000 copies of their sophomore set, an impressive debut after a few weeks of disappointing numbers from some other albums that debuted at the #1 spot. This is their second #1 debut: their debut album, Danity Kane moved 234,000 copies in the album’s first week.
After the Making the Band 4 season finale, we find out that there will be another season of the show and the girls are set to go out on tour with the boys of Day 26, whose album was released just on the 25th, as well as solo act Donnie, whom we’re still waiting on a release date for.
I’m glad the sophomore hump didn’t beat my girls out and they’re getting the love they deserve. I like Danity Kane – there’s no other female group out there doing it like them.
KANYE GETTING SUED
In a lawsuit filed in Maryland District Court, Dayna Staggs (aka D’Mystro) is suing Kanye West — and his record label, Roc-a-Fella — for copyright infringement. Staggs says that West “didn’t obtain a license to use ‘Volume of Good Life’” for his tune, and points out that Kanye was “only at the age of 6 or 7 years of age [sic]” when his song was written.
D’Mystro is also states that Kanye’s version “contains vulgar and offensive” images and “harms the reputation” of his much cleaner song. He wants 85% of all world sales of the proceeds from the music that uses his work, though he doesn’t explain how he came up with that number [ READ MORE ].

Congrats to DK I have the album and am enjoying it. To me it isn’t as good as the first one. The thing about DK is that they didn’t need big radio spins to sell they got MTV on lock now that the album has come out the gate doing well peeps who may not watch the show will be interested so the spins will come and they may sell steadily instead of dropping out of the top 10 in 2 weeks like others.
I haven’t gotten into Teyanna so no comment.
If Kanye used this guy’s music without permission he has the right to sue. I find it hard to believe that someone who samples as much as Kanye does wouldn’t take the time to get clearance but we’ll see what happens. If it was your piece of work being used and this is how you make a living I’d like to think you would have the common sense to get what you deserve, so I don’t know why some folks are cyber killing the dude for going after what may be his. Not sure about 85% but it will be interesting to see what happens.

If Kanye did not get clearance to use the song in the first place, then the artist has every right to sue for royalties. Ultimately, it is his responsibility to make sure that this is done as a producer. Same reason why Beyonce got KO’ed by Kissing You on B’day. Can’t credit for other folks artistic property unless you didn’t read the fine print in the case of George Clinton vs. Bridgeport Records. Future earnings….

I’m SO annoyed that the only place we can find it is on his myspace page AND its a damn clip. What makes it worst is that ish has been on Comcast MusicChoice for like MONTHS! So mad… lol not at the exposure; I’m mad they put Paul Wall’s ass on it. The original SANS Wall is WAY better but its still good!
The reality is that nearly every successful modern artist has their record label pay radio stations and tv music channels to play their music/videos. for instance when justin tims song “sexy back” came out everyone was like WTF but because it got so much radio play it grew on people and so they bought it and his album did well. Im not saying that DK have done the same thing beacuse I actually have, but to think that musicians dont do it is naiive.
DK probablly will go platinum but they are not an international group like PCD, Destinys child or TLC. DK are currently almost unheard of in Europe at present (i hope that changes) so they need to work on theyre international market if they want to be the next biggest thing. Ive watched MTB and though I like DK i’d rather buy day26′s album because I think they have more talented singers in the group.

I see how convenient it is for DK to sell only 2,000 less copies that there last album in the first week. I still dont get how you could sell that many albums with one single. I dont believe that there fan base is that consistent. Its a little too fake to me. Anyways congrats to them.
Another overrated diva is Kanye. He’s been riding off other people’s work and it’s finally catching up with him. He steals beats and lyrics and hasn’t done anything original besides from inflating his ego. It’s about time someone is coming for his wack ass. His mentor No I.D. should be getting a check as well as Jay, Biggie and Nas for all their lyrics that he constantly uses.
