Seventeen year old Jamiel Shaw was killed Sunday, March 2, just a few doors from his home, close enough for his father, Jamiel Sr., to hear the gunfire. He ran outside and found his mortally wounded son in a pool of blood.
On the same day of Jamiel’s funeral on Tuesday, authorities announced that the alleged gunman, Pedro Espinoza, 19, had been formally charged with Shaw’s death.
Several Los Angeles neighborhoods have experienced gang violence in recent weeks. Eight people – five of them children – were wounded when a man fired into a crowd near a bus stop; a 6-year-old boy was shot in the head and critically wounded while riding in a car with his family; and an 18-year-old man was shot outside of an elementary school.
Jamiel Shaw Sr. said more must be done to combat gang violence:
“It’s a gang problem and they have nothing in their heart for people.”
His mother, Army Sgt. Anita Shaw, who was serving her second tour in Iraq when her son was killed, compared the gang members who killed him to those she’s fighting against in Iraq: “To me, they’re terrorists.”

MOM THROWS KIDS OFF BRIDGE

Khandi Busby, 27, threw her two struggling sons, ages 8 and 6, from a freeway overpass Wednesday morning before jumping herself, police said. Fortunately, all three survived the 22-foot fall into rush hour traffic and have been able to speak with investigators.
“It was really miraculous that we didn’t have some fatalities with this incident,” said police Sgt. Gil Cerda. “At this particular time, there is very heavy traffic and it is fast moving.”
In an Associated Press article, Lt. C.L. Williams said:
“The why remains a mystery to us. If you try to apply logic to these incidents, they totally defy any logical explanation.”
NEWS REPORTER ATTACKED
According to the Associated Press, three people upset that a news crew was reporting on the arrest of a relative attacked WSPA-TV reporter Charmayne Brown in Union, SC. Cameraman Ti Barnes was also struck as he tried to pull the family members off Brown.
AP reports that the fight was taped by a white crew from a second television station; they were not attacked.
On Tuesday evening, Tousha Smith, 31, Billie Joe Taylor, 31, and Trina Vinson, 48, were being held at a Union jail on assault and battery charges. The state has no law allowing a hate crime charge.

I hope they take her kids away from her and put them in a home with some relatives who will take good care of them. I’m scared for me and everyone I know. I also do not think the world is going to get any better. How will it, and who will lead us? We have no one to lead us out of this dark whole that we are in. Not even the President. It’s never in their agenda to stop hood killings. The police don’t even care, overtime or not. My heart hurts. Why don’t people have hearts, how can you not feel? Why when a black male turns 18, he says he’s just happy to make it to 18? Why can’t everyone just Love and live life?

When I first read the story about Jamiel last night on CNN I cried. It is so sad that the city of L.A. can’t get it together regarding the gang issues. All gangs no matter black, hispanic, or white and asian should be viewed as terrorists. I have heard that issue about blacks and hispanics in LA is crazy and should be handled.

LfffLord Have Mercy, My heart felt condolences go out to the Shaw family. This hits home for me, I lost my brother to violence in October, so I know the pain this family must be going through. I wouldnt wish that kind of pain on anybody. And to the mother who threw her kids and herself off the bridge, Yes God is Good. God has a plan for these boys and the mother as well, that is why they survived. He wasnt ready for them. Im a mother of two boys and I cant begin to fathom how a mother or anyone else can harm a child. Lets us pray for this family as well .

It’s so sad as to everything going on in our world today. These are truly the last days. I work in Dallas and live in the ATL, so I heard about this incident this morning about this woman that threw her kids off the bridge. They were talking about it all day here in Dallas. The interstate was shut down and … man it’s just crazy. I don’t think I could ever do that to my kids. I wonder if she’s on the edge. Maybe she lost a family member or is going through a divorce. Who knows. All of the stories on here today are so sad.
