NEWS ROUND UP: OFFICER CHARGED IN SHOOTING / KILPATRICK VOWS NOT TO RESIGN / BUSH DISCUSSES WAR ON TERROR
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

A white police officer, Sgt. Joseph Chavalia, was charged with negligent homicide in the death of Tarika Wilson, 26, who, according to her family, was an unarmed, innocent bystander killed in a January SWAT raid, and negligent assault in the wounding of her 1-year-old son, Sincere, whose finger had to be amputated.
Chavalia pleaded not guilty to both misdemeanors. If convicted, he would face a maximum of eight months in jail.
According to an Associated Press article, the NAACP office in Lima, OH, said the charges should have been more serious:
“Any time a man shoots through a baby and kills an unarmed woman, and is charged with two misdemeanors, I think it would be an understatement to say that that’s unacceptable,” said Jason Upthegrove, Lima NAACP president.
KILPATRICK VOWS NOT TO RESIGN

The Detroit City Council voted 7-1 to call for the resignation of its mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick amid a text-message scandal.
Kilpatrick dismissed the non-binding vote and has continually vowed not to resign.
“My reaction is, OK, now since it’s over, it has no effect, it’s not binding, let’s get back to work,” he told reporters Tuesday afternoon. “I don’t blame anybody on council. The incredible scrutiny and overwhelming pressure of the media — you all are something — it’s probably tough for anybody there.”
The resolution cites 33 reasons for Kilpatrick to quit and also claims his administration has failed to govern effectively.
BUSH DISCUSSES WAR ON TERROR

Marking the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, President Bush acknowledged debate of the conflict but stressed the importance of a U.S. presence.
“Five years into this battle, there is an understandable debate over whether the war was worth fighting, whether the fight is worth winning, and whether we can win it,” Bush said in a speech at The Pentagon Wednesday morning. “The answers are clear to me: removing Saddam Hussein from power was the right decision — and this is a fight America can and must win.
“Five years ago tonight, I promised the American people that in the struggle ahead ‘we will accept no outcome but victory.’ Today, standing before men and women who helped liberate a nation, I reaffirm the commitment. The battle in Iraq is noble, it is necessary, and it is just. And with your courage, the battle in Iraq will end in victory.”

I can’t say anything unless I knew the facts. I wasn’t there. But if it is true that this woman was an innocent bystander and he intentionally shot her, than he should be put up for muder. As far as the child being in the way, I hope that that as well was an accident, but if intentional, that should be attempted murder. Like I said, I wasn’t there. This is media talking so. I can only hope. Ya’ll gotta think if this woman was even innocent, they WERE doing a SWAT RAID! How do we know that she wasn’t defiant? Instead of being quick to jump on someone, think about all sides. And remember, ya’ll weren’t there and neither was the naacp. With that said, it is always horrible to hear that a life was taken at the hands of another human being.

Kwame Kilpatrick makes me sick to my stomach, I went from working the call banks for his first campaign to selling my house and moving out of the city because he (and the same ole sh!t City Council) ran my city to the ground. I can’t wait until they get to the bottom of the stripper party he threw, and the woman who died as a result of it… Tamara Greene will get justice.

I want to know what happens when the next president takes office. Would he/she be able to call off the war or is there some political clause that would prevent them from doing so? I want to know what are potential options the next president will have in a war that began with Bush. It certainly doesn’t look like it will end while he’s still in charge.

Of course any woman shouldn’t date a drug dealer, but I say Black women because we have a surging and never ending love for everything related to the street and thug lifestyle within OUR community. Being a two bit drug pusher is sensationlized in our music videos and emulated on a day to day basis by men and women in our community. I don’t see this as a huge problem in other communities. When I see White men and White women making up 3/4 of our country’s prison system and not getting college educations, then I will start including other races.

I agree with the comment above about people making sure that we have all sides to the story before we make a decision about the police officer, but a innocent life is still a life. with that said, the young lady should have never been in the house with a drug dealer. that is an open invitation to police raids and rival gangs coming down on that house. people have to understand, there are racist cops, but the ones that do their job w/o bias are putting their lives on the line everyday. when you are catching a drug dealer and going into their home, you have no idea what you are stepping into. they could be fully armed and ready to blow the cops away as well. it was just not a good idea for this young lady to live in the home with a drug dealer and her kids. what if it would have been another drug dealer coming after him? the same thing would have happened and maybe even worse. I understand that people are sick of racist cops, but at the same time most cops who abide by the law are putting their lives on the line, and when it comes down to catching a dangerous felon (that is what a drug dealer is) you are not going to knock on the door and wait for permission to enter. if the cop did act in a racist manner, then he should be dealt with accordingly.

Sigh any idiot can see the war was pointless, I’m upset and angry being a muslim so many lives lost for absolutely nothing, I think the last count of Iraqies dead was 600,000 + civilians, including children, some women of iraq raped by soldiers, and its sad that we honor these soldiers when they pass but no one does shit when an Iraqi does, you know the biggest issue U.S.A. has?? Its straight up pride, its ridiculous, how do u let a thing like pride get in the way of making the right choices. The same thing happened in Afghanistan, U.S. gotta stop fuckin around =/. They spend i think it was 12BILLION MONTHLY on this pointless war imagine what they could do with that money, they could’ve distributed it to the people who really need it around the world, its amazing how ignorant some people are in the U.S. the stupidest decision ever made, parts of US itself are suffering from poverty the least they could do is take care of there own country but they can’t even do that. =/ Notice the American Economy is at loss its going down big time, I’m Canadian we are whooping ass right now, our dollar is now more powerful then USD..
Real Talk the only way you get luvin back is if you extend it to others. U.S. screwed so many people over, It’s literally rated the most hated country in the world, nobody likes it, I’m in Canada and honestly literally most of the people talk shit, because its true ..
Anyway just my thoughts not meant to upset anyone but you know most of the information you find is what everyone wants to hear, no one checks out international news because they literally are “Underground News”, they cover some of the real things.

I have to say I am so tired of these women living/associating with drug dealers and getting killed. I am saddened by her death, but what do you expect when you willingly expose yourself and your children to these types of people. If it is not the police then it will be someone with a vendetta. To all the women who chose to date, have relationships, and children by these type of men, in the famous last words of school daze “WAAAAAKE UUUUUP”? This should be a reality check to you–this man is alive, while Tarika is dead and her 5 children are motherless.

I can’t wait until the day we say Ex-President Bush…… We are not fighting a war. We are sending young men and women home of all races and ethnicities back here to AMerica all f’d up in the head fromt he things they have seen over in Iraq/Iran and where ever else we don’t belong.
Why can’t they send the prisoners there esp the ones with life let them fight the war and if they make it out alive in the predicted ten years they get 10 years off of their prison sentence in the country of their choice…lol.. Instead of sending these good men and women there to come back sometime a shell within themselves.

I live in OH. This was far from a misdemeanor. This was an assassination. Where is Al Sharpton? Michael Baisden?Tom Joyner? etc…… This woman’s home was raided to find her boyfriend (who allegedly sold weed)…. They busted in her home, where she and her 5 children were alone. She was holding the todler carrying him out of the house when she was murdered by the officer. The department swiftly covered things up by conducting an internal review of the incident.
This is more than a miscarriage of justice, it is a racially biased slap in the face to the whole community. Lima has always been klan-country and there are very few blacks who even live there. Those who do, have countless tails of discrimination and mistreatment. This devastates me. It makes me see that a black woman’s life ain’t worth much around here. i know it’s not as sexy as a missing police officers’ wife…. but she mattered. She mattered. And somebody should say so.

Wow 8 months for a murder, 25 years for drugs—now you tell me that the justice system in America is so great. I agree with MOSD. But now I’m an American, and I try telling other black people to wake up and realize that this country is not worth dealing with, It’s set up for Black people to fail at everything, Different laws for different states (ridiculous), what’s the purpose of calling it the United States of America?
The only way race issues will ever cease to exist is if we had our own to control and govern.
Bush needs to gettoff that High, what makes him think that Americans are fools, don’t know one want to see a Republican in office after the lies he’s spewed. He has blood on his hands.

It is sad…its ashame that in 2008 a woman can be killed in front of her 6 children and not to mention her 1 y.o son is shot in the process AND the perputrator (sp) is walking free!!!! We are outraged and appalled. Jesse Jackson was here 3 weeks ago and he was disgusted concerning how the whole situation went down.

Kilpatrick is a murdering thug bastard! He is slick, manipulative, stubborn, thuggish, arrogant, adulterating fat ass bastard! For every one good thing he is doing for Detroit, he is doing 10 things behind the scenes to scandalize Detroit, and further sully it’s name. He is raping that city and it’s already sagging image. I swear one day, they are going to have enough information to find out that he’s involved in not just 1, but 2 murders of strippers (one a long time girlfriend of his), who both miraculously died in two different cities from gunshot wounds. WTF! This happened soon after the whole party at the manoogian manchent and them officers were being questioned cause Kilpatrick’s ghetto ass wife stormed into the manchent when she heard about the party, and slapped the shit out of the strippers (actually a longggg time girlfriend of Kilpatrick)….soon after the stripper left town, and was found shot dead…It’s not fuckin hard to figure out what the fuck happended in this case….you don’t even need imagination for this one. Kilpatrick is a disgrace, and the dumb as fuck people in Detroit keep voting this dumb bastard back in office cause he supposedly the “cool” judge, and he goes out clubbing with folks buying the whole drinks. In the meantime, he intimidates people and he runs his office like a mafioso. He is a thug. Alot of people don’t know he use to beat us his wife back when they were in college. Alot of people don’t know he use to be in gangs growing up, and his mother (now Congress woman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick) sent his incorrigible ass to live with his father.
Because Kilpatrick is smart and articulate, he fools alot of people. He is a fuckin devil, and he dares you to do something about it. He twists words and manipulates people and situations. He is scheming and calculating, and he’s ruthless, and one of the most stubborn bitches ever. He scared the shit out of those police officers, and dared them to tell on him and his wrongdoings…and the ones who did speak up, not only did he threaten their lives, but he threatened the lives of their families and children. OMG and he lies like the wind. He’s the biggest liar, and he lies with a straight face. He tells lie, after lie, after lie, and dares you to find the truth. He threatens the media, he tries to intimidate the media.
I can go on, and on, and on…..now the city counsel has caught him in so many lies, and the last straw being when he lied on the stand, and was found guilty in the whistleblowers lawsuit brought by the Detroit Police Officers who fled the city in fear of their lives when they received death threats by the Mayor….i was so glad when they won…Unfortunately, as broke as Detroit already is, now the city has a judgement against it for millions of dollars that must be paid out to these officers in award of their lawsuit. And has been in one scandal after another, and still he refuses to step down.
I’m going to stop here, but all in all, no matter what the Mayor has accomplished for Detroit, cause this is some people’s argument, but the way i see it, scandal always outshine anything you do good, and the lasting impression is usually one surrounding scandal…..cheating on your wife with your chief aide that you went to school with who you appointed to that position, having ghetto ass parties in the mayor’s manchent, trying to cover up an assault by your wife and trying to quiet the department for telling all the dirty details, suspicious murder of your long time girlfriend (a fuckin stripper), lying on the stand in a federal trial, etc…..
Bottom line this so called mayor is out of line. He needs to step down.

Again, you need to stop blaming the victim. We have the right to make our own decisions about who we choose to be with. We have the right to make mistakes and to even change our minds or correct an error in judgement. There is no reasonable explanation for a trained professional to open fire on an unarmed woman carrying an infant. It just goes to show how the life of a Black woman in this country has been devalued [and how BET has certainly helped contribute to it]. I’m glad the NAACP is helping but I have a huge problem with these Civil Right’s Industrial Complex organizations. It seems their involvement stems from the fact the police officer who shot the woman is white. There are soooo many cases of Black women being murdered by other Black people [men] and they DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! Dunbar Village, hello!! In fact Sharpton and the West Palm Beach chapter are trying to get 4 of the ‘alleged’ criminals out of jail by saying their arrest was racially-motivated or some other nonsense. In case you aren’t aware of this story a woman was gang raped by a group of men who lived in this housing complex. They forced her to assault her own son and made him watch when they assaulted her. They poured bleach and other chemicals on them, temporarily blinding the child and intended to set them on fire but couldn’t find any matches. No one called the police or tried to help. And the NAACP said helping the woman was not part of their agenda. It is time for people with consciences to say enough is enough and take action. You can check out whataboutourdaughters and black women vote blogs among others.

Many dancers at Detroit鈥檚 strip clubs admit to either knowing about, going to, or being invited to, the sex orgies鈥擨 hesitate to use the word 鈥減arty鈥 to describe a gathering where everyone removes their clothes鈥攁t the Manoogian Mansion. I fail to see how killing only one of them (Tamera Greene) could keep the story out of public view. One of these dancers even admitted that Kwame fucked her in the asshole while she was giving a blow job to a cop.
