Henrietta Lacks (1920-1951) was the 31-year-old leading contributor to the sciences of aging and cancer, but she never knew it.
Born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Roanoke, Va., Lacks was a wife and mother of five who, on Feb. 1, 1951, went to Johns Hopkins Hospital because of a vaginal discharge; that day she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Recently, Teyana Taylor, who has been nicknamed the Teen President, had an interview with TheSingersRoom, where she gave a little insight into her debut album, From A Planet Called Harlem.
Singersroom: It’s becoming increasingly obvious that you are completely different than any other artist out right now. Can you explain the direction and sound of your debut album?
Teyana Taylor: Well, for my album, it’s called From A Planet Called Harlem, it’s kind of like my own world of Harlem world. It’s like us coming together and collaborating. Everyone who wants to visit says, “Yeah, I want to go to New York!” We got that swag. From the walk to the talk to the way we dress. It’s kind of like our own little planet. So, I named the album From a Planet Called Harlem and it’s so dope because I worked with so many different producers with so many different styles. So, my music is coming from so many different directions as far as rapping, urban, rock, a little bit of jazz. It’s really, really a great little look and there a lot of different great songs.

BET’s “Access Granted” premiered Keyshia Cole’s new video “Heaven Sent” this week. As we told you a few weeks ago, the video was filmed in beautiful Hawai’i (shout out to my peeps in the 808) and was inspired by the “Footprints in the Sand” poem. Benny Boom-directed it and this is the fourth single from Cole’s sophomore album, Just Like You.

“I don’t know yet if we are having a boy or a girl, but I’m excited that I have a life inside me that my husband and I created.
Curtis is very calm and has a quiet confidence, and he wanted what I wanted—to be married and have a family,” says the former boxer, who retired undefeated as the women’s super middleweight champion.
