POLITICAL ROUND UP: DEM. CANDIDATES CLASH / OBAMA’S CHURCH LASHES OUT AT MEDIA

Monday, March 17, 2008

Although the candidates agreed to play nicer on Friday, two days later Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had clashed over his ties to an indicted Chicago businessman and her tax records.

The Clinton campaign questioned Obama’s judgment in dealing with Antoin “Tony” Rezko, who is currently facing federal charges of attempted extortion, money laundering and fraud.

Obama’s campaign retorted that it was “the height of hypocrisy for Sen. Clinton to demand the release of documents already on our campaign website” while she has refused to release her full tax returns during her time in the Senate.

OBAMA’S CHURCH LASHES OUT AT MEDIA

Last week, Sen. Barack Obama addressed the controversial remarks by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. His church, Trinity United Church of Christ, is now offering its thoughts on the media coverage and “character assassination” of Wright.

“It is an indictment on Dr. Wright’s ministerial legacy to present his global ministry within a 15- or 30-second sound bite,” Otis Moss III, the current pastor of the church said in a statement.

“The African American Church was born out of the crucible of slavery and the legacy of prophetic African American preachers since slavery has been and continues to heal broken marginalized victims of social and economic injustices,” Moss also said. “This is an attack on the legacy of the African American Church which led and continues to lead the fight for human rights in America and around the world.”

Lets move past this. The media is just trying to find something to take Obama down with. Obama is a movement. This isnt about him. Its about a move towards change. People should be happy to elect Obama. Why? Because he cannot mess up. He will be under a microscope and will be forced to be perfect for us.

Well that movement has come to a hault. Saw a new poll that this preacher stuff is having an effect, especially with the white voters he did have, notice I said DID. Why is he so worried about her tax returns, she said they will be released next month during the tax deadline, he needs to let that stuff go.

@ 5. People are easily influenced. If you want someone to believe something…all you have to do is make up a good story (maybe not even good) and they will believe it. Sad…but a lot of people don’t think for themselves. Check out a lot of the comments on Youtube under the pastors video…its like some people finally got a chance to voice their opinions about black people. These thoughts were in their minds all along…and now they finally have a reason to speak their mind.

——-@5,
————Any voter with half a brain can see through the media assasination of that
————poor old preacher. Don’t forget, God said lay not your hand on the anointed.
————Anyhow, CNN got rocked pretty good this weekend! lol
A white voters who uses this as an excuse to jump ships…was bound to jump anyhow. And, he only made the comment about her tax returns, because she’s covertly looking for some dirt to heave on him while she hides her own mess. The ish on Tony Rezko is available all over Obama’s website. No one is hiding information, but Hill and Bill!

All the preacher was doing was speaking his mind! What does his view have to do with what Obama believes? Most of us know that this kind of covo is being conducted in churches, barber shop, any else were black folks gather! So in my opinion this is fuel that the media wants to ignite to make Obama like as though he is racist, but in fact Hilliary’s camp is the true KKK!

Nothing that preacher said was a lie, he told the truth! From what I seen on CNN people didn’t like the tone he used but every black preacher in America screams and yells when they preach IT’S PART OF OUR CULTURE.

Also I want to adsress people saying that he is un-american or un-patriotic. From what I understand Rev. Wright was in the US Navy he is at least 70 years old so if you ask me he is very patriotic. He fought for a country that didn’t want to give him the right to vote, made him sit at the back of buses, and still took care of white solieders as a nurse. ya’ll know how they treated blk soliders back in them days.

I don’t blame the church for being mad, you say something bad about my pastor I’ll be ready to cut you to j/k lol

This is true, but I don’t see what the problem is really I don’t..
When a white politician comes to a black church “what do you think he’s there for” to get the black vote and show he’s down for the ppl, so I’m assuming now that they have numbered this preacher OUT they are not going to politic in black churches anymore, cause it will bring bad press.
All of this is bull and Hillary should know better (I thought she should). This is really getting silly, if white voters leave cause of this, then it was never meant to be for him to have them on his side in the first place.

The problem with the preacher’s comments are they are in a way offensive and divisive. Obama can not claim that he was not fully aware of this guys views if he was his mentor and he had been a member of this church for 20 years. the problem is that this gives us a window into what Obama may or may not believe. Like Obama said there is no black america, no white america, there is a united states of america. and in order to overcome these type of negative view points Obama needs to start practicing what he preaches.
Obama needs to be aware of this socially and politically and the fact that he has belonged to this church for so long and made no efforts to distance himself from Wright’s comments is an indication that maybe he is not ready to be president.

20.

Still Tragic

Monday, March 17, 2008 /

#21 With all due respect Obama is not ready to be president because his views “may or may not be” similar to Rev. Wright? But black people for years have had presidents who had racist feelings (Andrew Jackson, Calvin Coolidge, Woodrow Wilson, Richard Nixon) and countless others? Obama’s mother is white! Why would he be racist against his own mother?

And Reverend Wright only said what was true for the American experience for black people.

21.

JUDAH

Are you a caucasian, lol? Black people say and think alot of dumb sh*t due to this 400 year captivity, but to say that there is no “white America” and “black America”, you must either be white or the dumbest negro on planet earth. It’s due to that delusional thinking why a person like Rev. Wright has the views that he has, because of liars. There are entire states that it would be advisable for black people to drive through at their own risk, much less live.

22.

@14. If not now then when? You must have misunderstood me in comment #4. Obama is not a perfect man. No one walking this earth is perfect. Although Obama is not perfect…he like any other non-white men in his position will be forced to act as if they are perfect. Why? Because one slip up…and the media will “dog” you.

It’s like you have the ball on the last play of the superbowl and you are only down by 3 points on the opponents 5 yard line. This is it…you have a chance to win the superbowl!!! The Superbowl! You have been waiting for this one moment your whole life. If you drop the ball…the whole world will know and they won’t let you forget. Score and you’re a hero for life! 1 side will be sad (the losing team)…but many more people will rejoice with your victory! Touchdown! The underdog scores and the crowd goes wild!

Obama is that underdog. Even though he has champion like numbers…he is still considered an under-dog by people that disregard the FACTS of the campaign. Our ancestors, Americans and THE WORLD has waited for this type of person to come along and change America. Many people around the world don’t like Americans…but just imagine how Obama can change their perception of us. Imagine how much he will inspire that little girl that thinks she has no future. But most of all…imagine how happy our soldiers will be to come home! Our ancestors are spinning in their graves seeing how Obama does not have the support of many in the black community. Take a trip back to 1945…hmmm…and lets put you in Mobile, Alabama or how about anywhere in Virginia. Now lets see if Hillary is your best friend.

Are you going to drop the ball and let this opportunity slip away for another 30 years? How much better of a black man do you want to see? How much better of a human being do you expect to be in politics? The time is now! Don’t drop the ball.

Just because you are in a position of privilege and never walked one mile in a black person’s shoes does not give you the right to call that man a moron. He is a MAN. Not some white person’s “boy” who has to look down and stammer around a white man.

I will not speak for another person, but I can say that Judah’s words make a lot of sense to many black people, no matter how “militant” they may sound.

——-@17 My first impression of Obama was his 1st interview on Oprah when he
——-was elected to the Senate. I saw this great, passionate, and genuine person
——–and I believed that one day he would make an excellent president. I remember
——–Oprah tellng him not to “mess up”, because she could see it then as well.
——–You ask me when do I think is the best time for him to run- well, anytime but

——–person, but experience does count for something, especially now. I just want
——–him to get a little experience under his belt, and I don’t think there’s anything
——–wrong with asking for that from a presidential candidate.

——–@24- Thank you for clarifying your comment. I see what you are saying about
——— him being the underdog. However, my fear is that if he gets the nomination,
———-he won’t stand a chance against McCain in the general. I’m not asking for a

I’m so glad there are folks who are able to see that what Pastor Wright is saying is NOT UNTRUE. Yes, it’s blunt and, yes, its harsh, but so is RACISM! Why should he apologize and sugarcoat it? Its ugly and it should be revealed in all its ugliness. Racism is believing in the superiority of one race over another. Pastor Wright doesn’t preach that, and Trinitarians don’t believe that. People need to actually try and find out what’s really going on before they just believe what the media says.

The problem is not what he said, but how he said it. He should’ve simply stated that President Obama has gone through his life with the axe of racism and prejudice hanging over his head and he is more sensitive to the plea of the oppressed, ipso facto. His diction sure has cost President Obama (fingers crossed) some votes… and that just makes me sick!! He shouldn’t be insinuating that President Obama’s candidacy is largely centered around his race. Guilt by association. President Obama can repudiate these statements all he wants, but many have been alienated because this man has been his spiritual advisor for many years. I hope he still wins the nomination.

@24 You

If “You” are a white person, then I don’t like “you”. Not because you’re “you”, but because you can’t help being “you”, lol. “You” people are constantly attempting to engage in trickery and you couldn’t stop if you wanted to because this is the spirit that was given to you from the Most High. You’re newest trick is this” reverse racism” nonsense which you will use to abolish affirmative action and quota hiring practices by inducing guilt in the blacks and hispanics; making them think that they can receive fair hiring practices off of general principles, and using cooned out, house negro politicians to introduce the bills. That, in tandem with your systematic, nation-wide gentrification programs will totally displace the negroes and hispanics and reduce them into an even more severe state of vassalry. Here in New York, Harlem will no longer be a black community within 7-10 years because black people love you, fell for your tricks, and welcome you into their community. “You” white people are clowns and “you” cannot embarass me into backtracking on any of my stances or viewpoints because you do not have the intellectual capacity to refute me on anything I represent nor anything that your own history books have witnessed against you. Racism can only be reversed when society has been reversed. This cannot be done by an agent like Obama, it must done by the Most High and Christ. Furthermore I haven’t bought in to the trickery of politricks like many of my people so I can’t be compromised. A molested child cannot hate their molester and the murdered cannot despise a natural born killer enough. To show you that you white people cannot stop your conduct, you justify the mass murder off millions of Iraqis and Afghanis and will soon take your murder tour to Iran no matter who is president.

Common, house negro sellout clown. Too simple to see what’s going on around you and by the time your dumb-ass does see, it will be too late for you to change your mind. Waste of space and a waste of sperm. I was in Harlem on Saturday on 125th St., and all I saw were black people with signs begging for something to be done about the commercial property development that is going to eradicate the few black-owned businesses left in Harlem. 125th St. will look like 42nd. St soon. All the Harlem blacks will be forced into the Bronx because the property value will skyrocket. I think it’s truly a shame. I mean how is Obama responsible for what his Pastor says. I honestly think maybe the Pastor said these things on purpose, because he is jealous of Barack, I mean think about it why hasn’t he come forward yet in the media and took up for Obama, I mean Obama has been a member of the church for 20 years and is running for President. It seems like to me if the Pastor really carried he would talk to CNN and say look: what I said has nothing to do with what Obama believes, he wasn’t present while I was saying those things, and you can’t fault him for what I said. He is a man of morals, good judgement and I was just venting out my frustrations about the state of race and injustice throughout the history in America and I don’t think it’s fair to come down on a man that think’s so highly of America and it’s possibilities, for something I said in a matter of 30 seconds which doesn’t even represent my ideological stance.” If he was really for Obama a man that has attended his church for 20 years a man that was so inspired by him that he named a book which was inspired by one of his sermons, he would clear Obama of the damage that’s already been done, because this could result in him loosing his chances of being President.

Obama can’t survive this and the Clinton’s know it. The Pastor has made a lot of statements that can be considered anti white and anti US. That will turn off a lot of people. There is a poll out today that says 56% of democrats are less likely to vote for Obama based on Pastor Wright’s comments. He can’t win if he loses a significant share of the white vote that he has right now.

I just don’t understand why he says he disagrees with all these comments and yet stayed with the church for 20 years. If Bill Clinton went to a church where the Pastor said that Black people were evil, I would have a problem with it.

@ 53, MaxAMillion: Please educate me. Where or when did the pastor say white people were evil? When did he ever say any one race was superior to the other? The white people that judge him by invalidated rhetoric from another man had racist fears/beliefs to begin with, and only supported him because of guilt, or to feel trendy. The Clintons know this, and that’s how it played out. But the least you can do is at least quit propagating baseless assumptions.

this conversation about Barack Obama is typical of the American hypocrites; From that oxycontin sucking Rush Limbaugh to the Media at large fanning the flames of fear . He is a much better candidate than Clinton or McCain . We watched both of these candidates submit to republican propaganda in 2000; especially McCain (G.W.B.) played him like a fiddle as we watched him acquiesce so he could have a shot at the white house in 08 “our hero”. Hillary is using subliminal racial overtones to scare up votes but
if she not careful the she will lose the black vote all together. This is a new America the old guard has to relinquish claim to the mantel.

If Obama has to distance himself from his spiritual center then McCain will have to do the same because his closet if full of real hate mongers and he has as much explaining to do as Obama . Hillary is Crooked wait until the primaries you’ll see starting with her finances.

OK for #15, 17 and 22.

Ya’ll miss what I was saying. I didn’t say crap about Obama being perfect and God.
Read the damn message again OK.

I said, “why is media making such a big deal of this whole situation with him & the preacher”.

Then I mention ” about the white politicians coming to the BLACK CHURCHES for the BLACK VOTE and needed it. Hillary’s camp are feeling the pressure, cause Obama is a breath of fresh air and really bringing togetherness to his campaign and it is wonderful to have him running a DREAM in fact.

I was not bashing him or wanting to become president, hell I’m excited and think this mess is going to slow him down a moment is all I was trying to say.

I HOPE THIS CLEAR THE AIR!!!

Well Barack has to know to distance himself from this type of stuff running for president. I think he lies just like all the other politicians, how the hell you gonna say you never heard or knew about those statements. Dude you been going to that church for 20 years and you never heard or knew about those statements, yeah right. Secondly people attend churches that reflect their views and values, hopefully Barack doesn’t have the same values or views as his pastor. Third how can Barack attend a church that his own mother wouldnt feel comfortable going to, considering she is white.

Show me the big picture. All that I said and you have no refutation. You have no refutation against the truth. To many black people want to make everything personal because our people have become simple. Bottom line is that you’re an idiot.

SINCE YOUR’RE MODERATING…

PLEASE POST THIS INSTEAD..WITHOUT ALL THE TYPOS OF THE LAST AND LESS EXPLETIVES… :-]

Judah i can easily comment on what you’re saying…and what ur saying is basic for anyone who has a basic grasp of race stratification or international politics, so please don’t act like u educating the masses, atleast ure not educating me, so other sheep can ooooh and ahhhh at ish u saying…

ure not telling me anything i dont know already, but you are generalizing a whole race of people. White people. Though many are racist all aren’t. Though America is partially and in some cases entirely to blame for the conditions in the middle east etc…you have to also know that many of these societies also allow this shit to happen. You can’t blame America for all the ills of he World.

what is America doing that is different than what England did when they were the World Power? Its the same shit, and its a cycle that will probably always exist , there will always be a core and there will always be a periphery ….there will always be dependence on the US as long as it is the world power and if China were to become the hegemon of our region, we will also depend on China. Such is the order of things..

My issue with your stupid idiotic statements is that you can’t see the bigger idea of unity, even if it is semi-unity or isn’t true unity , but at least a society that comes together for a cause. I don’t believe Obama is any type of savior that can bring this about, but if he is elected President i’m telling you unity had MUCH to do with it. America will always be a society of different races, nationalities and cultures. Obama isn’t running for President of the Black Union, he is running for President of America - the melting pot of the world. He has to embrace unity because we cannot focus on only black issues to win.,He is not ignoring the black community. And having an understanding of the need for equality among races isn’t selling out. It is understanding that we need each other to survive. You are stuck in a racist mentality where you are only concerned with blacks and that is fine and all but there is a bigger world outside of your world view. A world where people are capable of being accepting of others of different races.

You claim to believe in God yet you have a separatist mentality that is NOT of God. You rant and rave about Harlem and blacks and affirmative action, but you’d never grasp the basic concepts we need in order to move forward in America. There must be an understanding and recognition of White Privilege, which alienates blacks and other minorities and there must also be an attaining of the black community to further itself and not blame it on THE MAN on every occasion. I personally agree with what the Rev said but not ALL of what he said, neither do i entirely agree with how he said it and the context in which he said it. They cannot take that sort of stagnant mentality to a church where there are impressionable minds. And if you are going to take your political views to church it has to be tasteful and at least hopeful, the doctrine of God is based on hopefulness, loving your enemies etc. This is our reality and many whites don’t and never will understand it but people died in 9/11, yes white people mostly, but still people….there must be some compassion for these people and a discussion of America’s problems can be discussed in a proper forum.

I believe in Black empowerment, but blacks also tend to use the race card alot and don’t wanna do shit for themselves. lets face it alot of blacks perpetuate every effing stereotype that White America puts on us, our families are broken , black men wanna be pimps and women wana shake their ass in videos, u over there blaming that ALL on the white man? That is f*ckery..plain and simple and little u say will get my respect because ure stuck on some bullsh*t…

Oh ok Judah, lol, soz for calling u an idiot too.
I feel lots of things u have said. As it happens, what will be will be. black people will never get really get the rights they deserve here on earth- no matter how hard they fight. in as much as we blacks want to make everything all comfortable for our race, we are here on earth for a limited time. We all need to focus on where we as individuals will go after our time is up because where we will end up will be where we shall dwell for eternity.

@ flylike

I dont think judah is blaming america at all. Black people use the race card a lot but isnt that really all they have to use as everything is actually down to race? I agree that blacks in the states do not do much for themselves but expect a lot but what exactly u want them to do~? who is listening to them?

With regards to the ‘pimps’ n ‘hoes’ on videos and stuff, it is not the white man that makes them do that and the white man can not be blamed for that at all. These women willingly and voluntarily want to disgrace themselvesin the name of fame. They make a conscious decision to do so. As for the ‘pimps’ theyr just rich arrogant fools. they forget the sufferings of the black men and women in the past and decide to come up with such filth so as to enrich themselves. None of this is actually done by whites.

Most black americans have a weird mentality that is beyond me. they always want to live fast lives - money cars etc, it is those one that do notsee the bigger picture.Judah sees a much bigger picture than them all
