Sen. Barack Obama, the first black candidate seen as having a viable chance of being elected president, is also enjoying another first. Rolling Stone endorsed the presidential hopeful last week marking the first time the magazine has made an endorsement for a candidate during the primaries.
“Politicians with gifts like Obama’s are so rare that it’s imperative for each of us to do our part,” Rolling Stone editors write.
Obama covers the March 20 issue, which hit stands on Friday, and the website also features a photo history of Obama from his childhood years to the national stage.
SHARPTON THREATENS LAWSUIT

Civil rights/social justice activist Al Sharpton is threatening to sue the Democratic National Committee (DNC) if it counts Florida’s primary results in the official presidential delegates tally.
Sharpton will be compiling lists of residents who did not vote because they thought none of the votes would count after the DNC stripped Florida of its delegates as punishment for moving its primary earlier in the year.
Although Sharpton has not endorsed a candidate, some have said his efforts in Florida will benefit Obama.

STATES TO VOTE ON AFFIRMATIVE ACTION BAN
When election time rolls around in November, voters in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma will decide whether they want to do away with affirmative action in government-funded projects and public schools.
(Photo: American Civil Rights Institute)Ward Connerly, founder and chairman of the American Civil Rights Institute – a national, not-for-profit organization aimed at educating the public about the need to move beyond race and, specifically, racial and gender preferences, is the main backer of the ballot initiative, dubbed the Civil Rights Initiative. The initiative has already passed in California, Michigan and Washington.
The 37 word initiative would read:
“The state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education or public contracting.”
Connerly said, “it would forbid any state or local agency or special district from engaging in preferential treatment.

#44 Why are you trying to put stuff into people’s heads?? Obama does support Affirmative action There’s plenty of sites justifying it
http://www.washingtonmont...vidual/2007_05/011305.php
http://www.ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm
well just look at California the college rate of minorities out there is moot damm near zero.
now the question is it Affermative Action or is it the school system failing our children.
being that there is no qouta on how many blacks, hispanics etc. whose to say there wont be any discrimanition
i mean lets get real. i see where hes comming from but sometimes i wonder.
now on to AL Sharpie i have to agree on this
rules are rules even the chairman of the DNC said it. Hillary has been talkin this shit for months if they count, when they find out whos paying for it..lol
i’m am done with this so called Democracy
and Obama change is All i want. I don’t care if its Marvin the Martian
But all americans see is Color…..oh well…
I’m a Hillary supporter, but that doesn’t mean I can’t love Obama, and that Rolling Stone cover is a beast move in every possible way.
Al is CRAZY, lol, but you need people like that, honestly. And hell, it’s like I always say when I talk about him: It’s not like we have an abundance of people taking the initiative, so…
Connerly and affirmative action? I think it’s disheartening that so many people are so quick to question where he’d be without it. Perhaps the notion that we’d be better off without that stigma attached to every achievement we rack up is the driving force behind this movement. Don’t you think it would be better for people to be certain that everything we achieve is by our own merit?
oh and Affirmative Action doesn’t just effect black people damm it
just like welfare and all government funds and to say only black people benefit fom it is stupid, yeah its a black man trying to get rid of it but it affects, mexcian, puerto rican, haitan and anybody of color.
@ #6 A.K.A. NEW YORKER:
How can anyone be for affirmative action ban on government contracts in an age where no-bid contracts are STILL circulated strictly within the good old boy network? Halliburton is still raking up a storm as we speak, all on the tax payer’s tab. I’m sorry, but institutionalized racism still runs deep in this country. You should probably be telling the bigots to “set an example” by denying qualified minorities the corporate advancement that they hand over to others simply because they look like them. Please let’s not get delusional, most whites in this country support the status quo because it suits them at the expense of others. In my opinion, any white person in American that feels slighted by affirmative action must be a dumb ass.
If they ban affirmative action in allotting government contracts, then minorities shouldn’t have to pay taxes, period.
Ward Connerly (who is clearly not a black man) is a freaking moron.
#63, do you really believe that getting rid of AA is going to suddenly cause white folks to judge us on our merit? Wake up!!! It wasn’t like that BEFORE AA was implemented, nor will it EVER be!
#61, those were Obama’s view on AA in 1998. This is 10 years later, he’s running for president, and obvioulsy not willing to rub his white constitutencies the wrong way.
Show me somehting recent where he specificially states he’s for AA.
Everyone keeps saying that in California whites make up the majority of all college campuses and that few minorities are represented at these colleges and universities. NOT TRUE. Last time I checked Asian Americans were considered minorities and they make up a great population of California colleges and universities.
Maybe affirmative action is needed, but no one can honestly blame the lack of African American students in American colleges and universities on corrupt admissions policies or whatnot. There are plenty of colleges with high percentages of African Americans and minority students, for example Mississippi State University of the University of Southern Mississippi: their percentages of black students are over 20%. In fact at Southern Miss I think blacks make up a majority of the student population.
Another thing, why is it that people love to say “minority” when in all honesty they mean African American? Come on guys, there are more races that make up the minority than us. If you are speaking of African Americans, then just say African Americans. The word minority is not a synonym for African American and I am sick of people using it that way.
And while I’m at it let me comment on Barack Obama. Unlike most young black men, I have actually taken the time to research the views of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. I think both are great candidates, but I am so tired of hearing people saying they’re voting for Barack just because he’s “black.” I wish that people would do the research and stop standing behind a candidate based on 30 seconds of a speech you saw on TV or other uneducated reasons. Lets be real guys, this is the president of the United States we’re talking about here. I’m not telling you who to vote for, I’m just telling you to research the issues yourself and don’t just follow the crowd’s opinion when it comes to voting someone into a position that is so significant.
Make sure that whoever you vote for you vote for them because you know their stance on the issues and what they will and can do to help our nation.
#68, is Underepresented Minority of URM better?
he looks like superman
#67 What are you talking about? They are updated. I believe that 2007 was only a year ago. Just because he supported it 10 years ago doesn’t mean that this was from 10 years ago.
These statements were made in 2007
Reading is fundamental.
