POLITICAL ROUND UP: THE $55 MILLION MAN / THE $6 MILLION WOMAN / NEW LAW THREATENS MS VOTERS / PAUL HINTS AT QUITTING

Friday, March 7, 2008

(Photo: Robin Nelson/ZUMAPress.com)

Sen. Barack Obama raised a record $55 million in February. So far, his presidential campaign has earned a total of $193 million, but, in an e-mail sent Thursday, “more important than the total is how we did it.”

“No campaign has ever raised this much in a single month in the history of presidential primaries…More than 90% of donations were $100 or less, and more than 385,000 new donors in February pushed us past our goal of more than 1,000,000 people owning a piece of this campaign. THE $6 MILLION DOLLAR WOMAN

(Photo: 4President)

Sen. Hillary Clinton is enjoying her wins from Tuesday, not to mention to financial gains they have given her.

Following those wins in Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas, Clinton has raised over $6 million in just 48 hours.

NEW LAW THREATENS MS VOTERS

stuesday.jpg

The Mississippi State Legislature has a new bill in the works that threatens the voting rights of elderly, minority and disabled voters throughout the state.

Senate Bill 2910
would cancel the registration of any voter if he or she did not “appear to vote” in a single election between Nov. 3, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2009. Purged voters would then have to re-register before they could vote in any elections. If signed into law, the bill would take effect in January 2009.

The Mississippi Democratic primary occurs on Tuesday, March 11.

PAUL HINTS AT QUITTING

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul released a new message to his supporters.

Hinting that he is ending his presidential campaign, Paul said that “though victory in the conventional political sense is not available in the presidential race, many victories have been achieved.”

I have so much Love for Obama, that I no longer listen or watch t.v. channels that try to tear down his very positive stance on changing America. There is no way that I could ever support a clinton. I appreciate the Obama’s. I will not vote for anyone else. I will not vote at all if I don’t see the name Obama. I will not vote for hillary under any circumstance. Down with hillary! UP WITH OBAMA. VOTE OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!

Barack you got the money now use it wisely. Get on the offensive instead of always being on the defensive. Launch attacks on Hilary Clinton and expose her for what she is. Expose her close ties to lobyists. Expose the fact that despite her years of ‘experience’ she has made bad judgments (eg. Iraq). THERE IS NO POINT IN A PERSON HAVING EXPERIENCE IF THEY END UP MAKING BAD DECISIONS. When will people realize this?

Don’t make our money go to waste Barack. Hilary has shown in Ohio and Texas that in politics, you don’t win by being Mr. Nice and respectful. STEP YOUR GAME UP AND GET HER

17.

redbone_ luvly

Friday, March 7, 2008 /

Go Obama we dont need no ugly white bitch that thinks experience that she think she have is enough to run our country!!!!!!!!!!! We need change!!!!!

18.

Nichole

Friday, March 7, 2008 /

Agreed! If Barack doesn’t dig into Hillary’s fake scandalous ass then he’s just going to end up just like John Kerry. We all remember what went down between him and Bush. Bush kept launching those attacks at him and Kerry wouldn’t even bother to fight back. That’s why a lot of Democrats turned against him and I believe that it played a role in him losing the general election.

Barack HAS to fight back. He has to let Hillary and her campaign know that if they want to play hard ball, he’s going to play right along with him. Seriously. This is dirty politics. Who gives a rats ass if Hillary is a woman.

Barack can still be gracious but it’s time for her to get it up. If Hillary takes the Democratic nomination, I will NOT be voting for her.

19.

Mississippi and Wyoming better get up and vote for Barack Obama! There will be no winning streaks for Clinton!

20.

ashleigh

Friday, March 7, 2008 /

The thing that makes Barack Obama so appealing is the fact that he DOESN’T play games like Hilary. He could easily expose her but that is not his style. He’s gained popularity for sticking to the roots and causes and not playing dirty. If he did that it might ruin his cross over appeal. Or his appeal PERIOD

21.

Ron Paul for Prez

Friday, March 7, 2008 /

How bout yall watch the damn Ron Paul video and see that he wasn’t hinting at quitting? How about LISTENING to him talk about “the real” and not just abstract bullshit about change and hope?

We are blinded by the media and the belief that we can do nothing about the system, and we are only taking what we can get.

Barack and Hilary are just two sides of the same coin. To me they are no different than the Bush administration especially if they deal with lobbyist politicians and take money from they very people who are enslaving us, American corporations. Plus those fools don’t give a damn bout pulling us out of Iraq, because their friends benefit from it. And just from the fact Hilary and Barack believes that the war on terrorism needs to be one is proof enough that we are dealing with a lose/lose situation. Barack and Hilary are the same ol same ol, apart of the same system, apart of the same plan. Period. There will be no change, this country will just fall more and more into debt, the poor poorer and rich getting richer. We will just slide more and more into slavery.

Broaden your horizons and google Ron Paul. Go outside of slick talkin bullshittin politicians who do give a fuck about you. You deserve freedom, true freedom, freedom you can feel, touch, smell, hear and taste, not “hope” that may come someday.

I agree with your comment #20! Throughout this whole election I’ve noticed how dignified Barack when compared with Hillary Clinton. His demeanor has matured more and more each election and/or debate with Hillary. WhereasI hadn’t really noticed and changed in Hillary, and she needs to. Her commercials are getting more ridiculous imo. I seriously doubt that she would be president of the United States if she were to receive the nomination! Let’s pray Barack can get more specific on where he stands; giving alot more detail on the serious issues going on, not just in America, but countries around the world that have some involvement with America. I’ve seen him mature so much during the last debate, let’s keep it up Obama! Unlike Hillary and Mcain, and of course President Bush, hedoesn’t promote fear in order to gain America’s votes. America’s longed for a president with this much compassion and bravery for a very long time! I suggest he watch a couple of Martin Luther King speeches and a few Malcom X speeches as well. Like I’ve been saying to my friends and family, experience if the most important fail laws passed has your name on it for approval.

@#21. The one thing that I did like about Ron Paul is the fact that he wanted to put a stop to illegal immigration. It really does have to stop. But American’s didn’t want to give him a chance, and that’s why he’s not the Rpublican nominee for the general election. You have every right to state your beliefs. But don’t try to convince us otherwise. You may not believe that change is coming to America, but the American people have spoken, and our voices, and votes will be heard even more when Barack gets the Democratic nomination.

I definitely disagree with you about Hillary and Barack being all the same. One is a phony and the other is a genuine speaker. That’s the way I see it. Barack will not be able to fix the damage that has been done by President Bush in just four years, yet neither will Hillary. Plus, a lot of American’s feel that this useless war in Iraq needs to come to an end. That doesn’t mean that neither candidate won’t fight against terrorism.

I also disagree with those who keep stating that Barack shouldn’t fight back. He has to fight back in some sort of way. He just can’t keep using charm, and preaching about hope, and change. He has to fight. He will end up like John Kerry if he doesn’t come to his own defense.

All have to say is if you refuse to vote because Obama does not get the nomination then you do not have to right to complain about decisions made affecting you. It is a direct slap in the face of all African-American who were subjected to taking literacy exams and paying poll taxes in order to be able to vote. The bottom line is that their courage guaranteed us the right to vote for whom ever we choose. So vote for Obama or vote for Hilary—just vote my people. By the way, I am from MS and take offense to comments made regarding this voting bill in the senate. I intend to vote like many other within my state. We have a strong community of educated African-American men and women in our state that will not let the hard work of our four father’s be forgotten. We are the same people who have survived Katrina, and will continue to struggle for equality in this country.

I dont think a woman will be fit to be the president of the united states. God said that the men are the head an not the tail so how will that look if a female is the head of state. Secondly Hilary already has her husband doing her job for her so does that mean he will take over her job if she is elected. I can understand a couple of speeches to help but he was here everyday almost in houston campaining for her. I guess when she say experience she means her husband doing all the work for her. I stand wit Obama an i believe he will be the next president of America, an he’s the only presidental canidate that share my values, not because he’s my race…but he is what will make this country a better place.

Ron Paul. What plans does he have that are remotely intellegent ot possible. He has some plans that sound good to young missle class americans, but would never be enacted. He has accomplished a miniscule of things in his political career, but he can become president and stop illegal immigration, eradicate the IRS and legalize marijuana. Sure thats going to happen.
Now, I’m a Barak supporter but I am a republican. Realistically Mc Cain can defeat either candidate convincingly. Don’t be misled by the polls so easily. The man has the experience which Hillary boasts of having, and the political courage Barack Obama often lacks. You can support someone and still listen to criticisms, and criticize them yourself. Its the beauty of democracy. I’m tired of hearing all these Barack supporters praise him like he’s flawless, and Hillary is some wench. They’re competing for an important position, ofcourse she’s gonna play dirty.
He needs to actually fire some advisors, and become more gutsy in his responses. He’s been making ridiculous points the last few weeks, and thats what cost him Ohio and Texas, not racism. He should have showed more respect to the Latino communtiy and attempted to draw their votes earlier, instead of waiting till he lost the states where they make up a large percentage of the vote. He should elaborate on his economic plans to make more inroads into the middle class vote. He has a lot of work to do still.

Well he just won the latest caucus so it’s all good! If you check out other political sites there are posts relating to Obama’s win in TX - primary and caucus. Rush Limbaugh told his listeners in TX to vote for HRC {Bill had been on the show} and they did, but they’re Republicans. Some might say a win is a win, but these people were trying to set her up as the nominee against McCain so she would lose the general. The Democratic party voters overwhelmingly voted for Obama across the board. Caucuses are great because people have to show up and have their vote counted publicly and there’s less opportunity for cheating. Also for those that think Obama’s not responding to HRC dirty tactics - he did - with Samantha Power referring to her as a monster. It got the conversation going because HRC flipped out and insisted on the resignation. So the focus got shifted and Hillary got played. Besides…it’s an accurate assessment. If HRC would focus on issues and policies instead of bashing Obama at every turn she wouldn’t have a growing list of grievances to be held against her. I think it’s time for those who are sick of the political process butchering that goes on to consider our options in creating a viable 3rd party alternative. The money that Obama amasses from internet donations would certainly support one. If the Clintons try to shaft the voters by brokering some back-room deal to to steal the nomination perhaps that will be the price that will need to be exacted. It won’t just be Black voters pissed off. She won’t win the general election against McCain no matter what because she’ll not only have the Republican party voters against her but all the new voters and chunks of the base of the Democratic party as well. Those that support her can rally around an Obama candidacy but the reverse may not be very likely since we’re all cult-members apparently.
