Last week, various reports confirmed that Naturi Naughton (formerly of 3LW) is in fact playing Lil Kim in the upcoming film biopic about rapper The Notorious B.I.G.
But get this, some Lil Kim fans aren’t having it. One of them even started a petition to get Naturi kicked off the film. Here is a snippet from the petition..

I don’t see the big deal in this Naturi chick playing Lil Kim. Lil Kim doesn’t even look like Lil Kim anymore. Oh and I added Kim’s 1996 mugshot because that’s how she looked before all that surgery.
In related news, an actress by the name of Antonique Smith will be playing Biggie’s wife Faith Evans in the movie. “Notorious” will start filming next week in Brooklyn.

Give me a break, noone even knows this girl and what training in acting she has had to fully represent Li’l Kim. That is the job of an actor–to bring out the truest reflection of her character. Who is to say this young woman doesn’t have those skills, those qualities. Were any of you there who petitioned, when she auditioned??? And folks remember how powerful makeup, film production, and direction will play in this biopic. I really feel the self-hatred in this petition. There is no basis for their argument which is why they only have 48 other lost folk who have signed the petition. The petition is an insult to Li’l Kim and hopefully she didn’t have anything to do with it. She cannot be this shallow as well. Did she change her image because of self-hatred. I don’t see anything wrong with the 3LW chick playing Lil’ Kim. Don’t people understand that it is called “acting” for a reason!! Actors portray a character so we the audience get drawn into the plot of the story thus entertained (hopefully). It is a plus when an actor looks just like the character or real life person they are portraying. Anyway there is no one out there who could remotely look like Lil’ Kim right now with “European” looks. It’s a damn shame when you don’t even look the same from ten years ago!! Self hatred from the industry and society has really distorted her view of herself. Sorry to hear about Anthony Minghella passing away. Naturi can act, she was in the Broadway play Hairspray, and I love Lil kim but she is nowhere near a legend. She has a while before that happens. The only place she has history in is plastic surgery. CL is wrong for the mugshot. There are PLENTY of before surgery pics of Kim that look better than the much shot.
As far as Naturi playing Kim, if she can pull of Kim’s BK accent and her swag then she’ll do fine. When casting an actor for the role, you screen them based upon physical likeness, but even if they look NOTHING like the person they’re portraying but can pull of a performance, its all good.
Angela Bassett don’t look JACK like Tina Turner or Katherine Jackson and she KILLED both roles. I gotta add that if they choose to add Charlie Baltimore in the film, they need to cast Chrystale Wilson or her real life daughter India (she was on Rip the Runway 2008).
