Usually, I would agree (but moreso because Oscars are very distinguished honors that very distinguished artists earn through truly profound work) BUT the academy has morphed into a capitalistic sycophant. Just as the Grammy and the Golden Globe have fallen into this sort of disembodied popular hand, so have the Oscars become merely a celebration of who’s who, a means of boosting ratings and ad dollars. Everything has become low-browed in the last decade… SO, my point is, while it would have been absolutely ABSURD twenty years ago, thinking “Beyonce” who can barely speak, let alone act, could win an Oscar merely because she’s got a fat a**, now it’s not too farfetched… To believe, I mean, is not too farfetched… It won’t happen, though… The Oscar ratings were way down this year, so I’m sure they’ll include the movie to get the pop culture buzz, but it’ll likely be a nod for songs… Jeffrey Wright could come away with something, but he’s up against a celebrated British actor who’s going to take on the same role in the other film… By the way, I hope CL let’s us know who’s going to play Etta…it should leak in a few days, the movies will be in production at the same time.
