Brandy – Honey (full) – listen
Here’s a new track from Brandy entitled “Honey.” I think it’s really a cute song, but it seems like something that was just recorded in order to let fans know that Brandy is working on new material. It seems like just a taste of the sound that she’ll be touching on this time around. I am always impressed by Brandy’s vocal arrangements and her adlibs, so I think that’s what I’m most looking forward to on this new project. I’m excited.
Big Boi feat. Andre 3000 & Raekwon – Royal Lush (full) – listen
You would have though that over the past year, the guys from OutKast would have had a new album out, or at least would have had solo material out, because of all the remixes and cameos they had. But it seems as though they’ve chosen to release now. Well, at least, Big Boi anyways. When I first heard the song, I was under the impression that it was an OutKast song, but informants let me know that the new song, “Royal Lush,” is from Big Boi’s project. I actually am loving it. I’m eager to see what both Andre and Big are going to do this time around. Another double release?
Donnie J. feat. Diddy – Take You There (full) – listen
On this past season of Making the Band 4, Bad Boy struggled with finding a sound for their new solo artist, Donnie. I think he felt slighted during the entire recording process on the show. The girls of Danity Kane’s album was released last week and is expected to debut at #1 this week, while the boys from Day 26 will release their debut album tomorrow. Donnie’s release status, however, is “coming soon.” Word is the album will drop in August, with multiple productions from Seven – who has worked closely with Ashanti in the past. FutureSex/LoveSounds 2008, anyone?
Joe Budden – Touch & Go (full) – listen
I remember all the hype surrounding Joe Budden back in highschool when he released his debut album. I honestly thought that we’d heard the last of him on that last effort. “Touch & Go” is the new single. If you ask me, the track, produced by The Klassix, sounds like the lame cousin of Timbaland and Keri Hilson’s “The Way I Are.” But I guess it’s cool that Joe is moving towards this club sound. Joe’s sophomore LP, Padded Room, which will drop on June 24th, 2008 on Amalgam Digital.

Brandy harmonizes better than most girl groups, lol! That chick has a killer ear for melodies/harmonies/adlibs/vocal layering/everything in between to make a song sound special. I think people underestimate her way too much. I’m making a prediction….Brandy’s upcoming album is going to go quadruple platinum.
The Brandy track will not make the final cut, but the track is HOT thanks to her amazing vocal technique. I would like to see a balanced mixture of mature (autobiographical) lyrics along with some club joints. The Honey song is “cute” as the poster stated, but at 29 Brandy needs to do music that reflect where she’s at in her life. I don’t know why the industry doesn’t understand that an artist should grow with her fan base. There should be a balance of songs that appeal to the masses and songs that tell a story that appeals to your generation. She did that with the first two albums then strayed away on Full Moon despite making beautiful music with that album, she reconnected with WHAT WORKS on the Aphrodisiac album. Let’s hope she mixes it up.
