Brandy – Honey (full) – listen
Here’s a new track from Brandy entitled “Honey.” I think it’s really a cute song, but it seems like something that was just recorded in order to let fans know that Brandy is working on new material. It seems like just a taste of the sound that she’ll be touching on this time around. I am always impressed by Brandy’s vocal arrangements and her adlibs, so I think that’s what I’m most looking forward to on this new project. I’m excited.
Big Boi feat. Andre 3000 & Raekwon – Royal Lush (full) – listen
You would have though that over the past year, the guys from OutKast would have had a new album out, or at least would have had solo material out, because of all the remixes and cameos they had. But it seems as though they’ve chosen to release now. Well, at least, Big Boi anyways. When I first heard the song, I was under the impression that it was an OutKast song, but informants let me know that the new song, “Royal Lush,” is from Big Boi’s project. I actually am loving it. I’m eager to see what both Andre and Big are going to do this time around. Another double release?
Donnie J. feat. Diddy – Take You There (full) – listen
On this past season of Making the Band 4, Bad Boy struggled with finding a sound for their new solo artist, Donnie. I think he felt slighted during the entire recording process on the show. The girls of Danity Kane’s album was released last week and is expected to debut at #1 this week, while the boys from Day 26 will release their debut album tomorrow. Donnie’s release status, however, is “coming soon.” Word is the album will drop in August, with multiple productions from Seven – who has worked closely with Ashanti in the past. FutureSex/LoveSounds 2008, anyone?
Joe Budden – Touch & Go (full) – listen
I remember all the hype surrounding Joe Budden back in highschool when he released his debut album. I honestly thought that we’d heard the last of him on that last effort. “Touch & Go” is the new single. If you ask me, the track, produced by The Klassix, sounds like the lame cousin of Timbaland and Keri Hilson’s “The Way I Are.” But I guess it’s cool that Joe is moving towards this club sound. Joe’s sophomore LP, Padded Room, which will drop on June 24th, 2008 on Amalgam Digital.

I have always been a Brandy fan but this song…how about being more socially responsible? Does social responsibility have a place in music? Ask the late Marvin Gaye or Tupac…of course it does. “If you don’t have money you cant have my honey?” WTF? Black women are being stereotyped as gold digging hood rats and we feed right into the ish with songs like this—while the REAL gold digging broads like K. Kardash– snatch up negroes. (Yes you can have money and be a gold-digger at the same time–e.g., Jackie O) This song is horrible on multiple levels and I wish Brandy new better. That is the best you can sing about right now? The best you (or whoever wrote it) can come up with? Why are standards SO LOW nowadays? It is worse when you’ve been off the scene for awhile then come back with this. I am reminded of Ja Rule’s comeback song: Ya Body. GARBAGE.

It is so funny to read what people have to say about Brandy. Brandy fans have to remember that everyone is not going to be feeling her. People that do not like Brandy have to remember that she has fans. Whatever the case, it don’t matter. It is just someone’s opinion, stop getting mad. Brandy is not the Queen of R&B, however, Brandy does have a great voice and she can do things with it that most people in the game cannot do. Especially Ashanti, and Ciara. BUT THAT IS JUST MY OPINION. But I must admit, even though she sounds good in the song, I am not feeling what she is saying. I feel like if you gonna put it out, be about it. And the money and HONEY thing got me in the “I DONT KNOW STAGE”. But I am glad that she put something out to let her fans know that she is working on something new and hopefully she will be able to deliever something fresh and new, because I am tired of everyone coming out with the same sound and no talent. ok, imma be honest brandy song is ok , i think donny is wack and people arent really paying attention to the music , the just paying attention to a white dude that sings black music and he just so happened to be on mtv every monday and thats why people are liking the song…lets be honest if it came from a new artist that u never seen or heard u wouldnt buy his album,,,,,4 real. joe buddens on the other hand suprised me ….yeah it migh sound a little but like his older single and busta rhymesish BUT that song is hot , and if thats not the hottest song of the summer then hip hop is truly dead.
I am really feeling Brandy’s song. I think that it is a feel good record and it would sound great in the club. I am happy that it probably won’t be on the album though because Bran can do even better than this. She has more depth to her than “if you got no money, you can get no honey from me”. But, truth be told, if it were some other female singing this song, folks would be all over it.
I am honestly beginning to think that people tend to hate on Brandy because she is the only female in the R&B game that has had the celebrity status that now goes to another female whose name starts with a “B” that shall remain nameless. Therefore she remains a threat. Musically, Brandy is a force to be reckoned with and that is the truth.
Brandy makes “timeless” music. If she were to release any of her previous albums right now they would still sound fresh and new because Brandy is so ahead of her time. If you listen to the songs from Full Moon you will see that they sound very similar to today’s pop catalog and it was released 6 years ago!
