R&B singer Mario Winans isn’t getting a good rap after his ex-girlfriend Janel Bennett went to PageSix and told them that Mario doesn’t want to support his child.
Bennett, who was in an eight-year relationship with Winans before she had her son Jordan, claims she was removed from her home in Miami because of Winans, leaving her and their son “homeless and living with friends on the south side of Chicago.”
Two years ago the single mother was caught up in a legal battle with the rap producer to prove he was the father of her son. DNA reports came back positive, and Winans was made to pay Bennett $4,500 per month in child support.
Bennett tells the New York Post’s PageSix, “He hasn’t paid me. I just wanted support, and I was on disability and Medicaid and welfare just to have the baby. He stopped paying last year… by the end of August 2007, I lost the house and moved to Chicago… I just want him to do right by Jordan… It would be so simple for him to call me so we could work something out.”
She said that after telling Winans she was pregnant, he disappeared from her life.

thats exactly what i was thinking…and i dont care if people say its the women’s fault…i’m not going to raise my son to be like that…his father is there, but still i dont want my son to grow up thinking he can just run around and stick it in any random chick and not have to deal with consequences from doing that shit…i want my son to have that grown and mature vibe to him and not a dog in heat…and i’d kick his ass if he was too…no matter how old he gets

@The Truth2008 You sound like a scorned woman…. I know men are at fault, but like you said they don’t make men like they used to… You should know in this day in age that you will most likely have to fend for your own…. You can’t think like the man is going to take care of his responsibilites. Not in today’s society. I feel you on the point that men should be better providers, but you should also have your own back up plan. No one is excused in this situation.

I definitely am NOT a scorned woman. I am the one that filed for divorce and chose to end our relationship. I guess the reason I sound so angry is because I am just tired of the same ol’ situations with our men nowadays. The same story keeps getting repeated over and over again. I mean look at the Maury show. *LOL* It’s not my baby, I’m not going to take care of it, and if I do end up taking care of it, it’s because I had to be taken to court, etc. etc. It’s just disgusting. Our men are just are on a downward spiral and it seems that nothing is going to stop this decline. And when we have women (supposedly our sisterhood) cosigning on it like it’s the woman’s fault it’s just sad. It just reinforces to some men that’s it okay to not support your kid. They may adopt the thinking that the woman should be working and they don’t have to do anything. It’s bad enough that a lot of men don’t have relationships with their kids, but on top of that you don’t want to pay for them either…it’s just ridiculous. Sheesh, I mean, men barely want to keep a job nowadays.
I’m all for having a back-up plan and not relying on a man to take care of you. I have two jobs and I am in the process of starting another endeavor. So…I definitely understand that you need to be able to rely on yourself. Because nobody is going to take care of me and my child the way I want…but me. But, on the other hand, if you don’t have a back up plan…you still should be able to get money from the father. That is his responsibility. And if people think otherwise, they are sadly mistaken.
i think what would impress me more is if they got married THEN had kids. I guess I am the only person left in the world with values. Oh well.
Mario’s dead wrong for neglecting his kid, that’s never acceptable. BUT if he left her after she told him she was pregnant that should have been a clue he wanted no part of the baby. I don’t believe any women should ever be dependent on a Man for anything, you have to be able to do for you and yours because you never know what he’s going to do. She needs to just take him to court and stop attention whoring and trying to look like a victim. They’re both deadbeats IMO.

Hm. Strange men out here – and strange women. Ladies protect yourselves and stop trying to make a relationship with men who don’t want one. And men, stop pretending to be interested in relationships when all you want is a booty call. There’s nothing wrong with bootycalls, don’t get it twisted, they serve a purpose, but be grown enough to handle the fact that that’s all it is sometimes. But if a “slip” happens and a baby is created, it takes two to tango, however, as a woman you have to know that, while it’s not “fair” that men don’t have to give birth and stick around, that has been a fact for a long time so that’s a chance you take if you lay down with a man with no bc pills/condoms to protect you. I’m a woman and it’s 2008 – the hard and cold fact is that you have more to lose than a man in this situation so you better recognize that crying and whining about it after the fact isn’t going to do a dam thing. 1) Mario, take care of you child pay the woman.
2) If they were fucking around and he wasn’t really around during the pregnancy, that shoulda sent some red flags. She wasn’t smart for waiting around.

Hmmm, IF this story is true, I’m not condoning Mario but honestly, the first thing that came to my mind was ”how did she manage to lose the house?!” Couldn’t she have found a nice apartment or something, save some of the money for her son’s education & work to maintain that standard of living & pay the bills?? being married don’t mean shit. i know women who have a deadbeat husband in the house. being selfish does not stop with marriage. not taking care of your kids is a selfish act. an arrogant act. i know men who lived in the house with their kids and did not rear them because they were in the street all night. i was a single mother with the father in my bed every night. we are no longer together but til this day he has done no rearing of our 17 year old daughter. he left everything in my hands. my daughter asked him to take her to get a copy of her birth certificate and he did not even know where to go pick it up. he said to our child “how do i do that” he doesn’t know shit because he was not involved like he should have been. he was in her life but he was not involved with the basics.
We need to do better – plain and simple. If you have sex then you’d better be prepared for ALL the possible pleasures and discomforts that follow. Stop putting the burden on the mother. Black women are being left to raise families, expected to carry the Black community AND still not complain when they are done wrong? I don’t think so. Are you men advocating abortion as birth control? I’m sure it would make YOUR life easier when you tire of a mature relationship so you can pretend you’re 18 for the rest of your life – until you decide to grow up! I’m in my 30′s, not bitter and have no children. Why? I’m waiting for the right man/getting enough resources together. But that was my choice. I could have easily had one or more children, single or divorced…or together with someone. Raising children is really difficult. I’m the oldest of six so I know and that’s probably why I’ve waited. My point is men need to stop running away from their responsibilities and it’s emotional, spiritual AND financial. And depending on where you live $4500/mo will not lend you the life of a millionaire that’s only $54K per year. Where I live that will comfortably cover 1 person’s expenses in a less expensive state, barring any life-threatening injury, OR would cover a mortgage payment/upkeep in the state of CA.
Monhol, I feel you completely. I got married thinking that my son needed his father around regardless of the fact that his father is addicted to alcohol in the worst way…. That situation was not healthy at all for my family. He did no rearing all he did was drink and watch TV. He could not get a job because of some petty crimes on his record. At any rate I had to divorce him because his alcoholism kept him from being the strong man God wants him to be.
Marriage is not always guaranteed for a functional family. The parties involved must be 100% devoted to making the family unit work.

Maybe it’s just me, and I am in know way excusing Mario, but I know plenty of single mothers who hold it down. I don’t know anyone who would sit arround for 8yrs waiting on child support. Another thing is she really disabled? here in CA getting on disability is a way to game the system, half the people on it are not disabled they just want the check because it’s more than welfare and you get state benefits. I only asked that because she said she was on welfare and then disability and that’s normally how the scam goes here.

Paying for the child’s need is one thing but paying there entire mortgage/rent, light bill, phone/cell phone bill etc goes to far. Just because the man makes alot of money doesn’t mean they should have to give it all to the women. The child needs food, shelter, clothing and tuition for school. The other things like bills and miscellanies items are the mothers responsibility. I understand how men are upset that they get taken advantage of. Just because Mario is a producer making money , he might have a off year and make little and still have to give her money. $4,500 equals to $54,000 a year. That is someone’s entire salary.
