♫ WHO SANG IT BETTER: RYAN VS. SHAREEFA ♫

April 20th, 2008

For this edition of ‘Who Sang It Better” we have Next Selection CEO Ryan Leslie and Disturbing the Peace singer Shareefa.

Some of you may remember Shareefa from her song “I Need A Boss” a couple years back. Her sophomore release, The Secret, is out later on this year and she used this song to speak on those rumors about her being dropped from Def Jam. Ryan Leslie, on the other hand, is best known for his work behind the scenes with Cassie and various other artists.

This chick is mad talented. I heard her first album and its has that feeling that R&B has been missing. She’s a little rough around the edges but if she leaves DTP I think she can be on Keyshia Cole’s level and Keyshia’s the shit right now.

i was actually surprised that i was into Shareffas first cd, she has a good voice, maybe if she had a little training, she would be the shit. she could be on keyshias level, and maybe someday theyll both be on marys level but they both would have to give me A LOT more hits to be on marys level.

It’s Ryan Leslie’s song! He wrote, produced and arranged the song; so does it really matter who remakes it….it’s still his. Honestly I’m tired of people remaking this song already! first it was 50 now it’s Shareffa, who sucks by the way. The real question should be: when will artist go back to being creative and innovative insted of sampling every damn thing. Come up with something new, its ur job as artist. Or else hip-hop really will die, seriously….

Shareefa ain’t even singing… she’s basically rapping over the track and is ain’t even on beat – that’s important people!

Ryan may not be the best singer you’ve ever heard, but he got this battle won hands down…

I guess im most impressed just because he wrote, produced, sang, shoot, he did this song ALL BY HIMSELF..no help.

Ryan is such a great talent…i wish he would stop WASTING HIS TIME WITH NO TALENT CASSIE!!!!!!
He could be working with wwwaaayyy better artist, making more money, and gaining more respect…he gone let ASSIE make him look real dumb soon!!!

I really like the song period!!!

Both of them sing greatly! Both versions are phunky(in a good way)… Man… I love them both as artist, and I cannot wait to hear more material from them!

People need to give Ryan a chance… He’s on the come-up, and I don’t think he’s done enough to be judged on whether or not people see him as an artist. I hope he surprises the h*** out of everybody who’s doubtin’ him… GET OFF HIS JOCK(LET IT BREATHE)!!! Haterzzz

People need to get off Shareefa too. She has way more talent than a lot of these hatin’ a** hoes that are commenting on her. Take that haterzzz!!!

Only up to the artist to push themselves above the bar.The record label can only do so much. The rest is up to the consumer since we have the power to overlook “products” we don’t need.People put too much responsibility in the label and it doesn’t go like that. She has to market herself.Create her own buzz.A Label is just a label.I like both of them though.

I like her version just because I find it easier to sing-a-long too, but I think it still sounds a bit rough in spots.

Wow, I’m looking at the comments and not one comment mentioned the fact that she did someone else’s song. Yes, she can sing, but why someone else’s song and a well known song at that. I prefer Ryan Leslie’s song for the simple fact that it fit his voice, and he creates his own songs. I think it’s just tacky for a “talented” singers to re-record another artists track! Shareefa needs to do her thing and keep recording songs that fit her voice.

I know this is old…but i wanted to add my few cents. I’m diggin both, but Ryan’s is the better track. I’ve seen the video on YouTube and its on point as well. Shareefa has an amazing voice but on this track it feels more like a mix tape effort rather than a single.

t-ez, get a life…. niggaz think that cause they introduce somebody to somebody else and then somebody introduce them to the world, they are suppose to be praised the rest of their life. if u did something good, u will get yours, stop crying and go get your own. stop trying to make a come up off somebody else shit……..dont mean to get rude but damn, stop crying nigga. make yourself known and stop ghost writing-you was a do boy then and you still one. now what! Shareefa only needs to thank God for where she is and keep niggaz like you far away. That is what is really good. By the way, She will be great when God says she will be great…you aint running shit.
