Jill Scott and Gabrielle Union are among a group of actress/singers who posed nude in an upcoming issue of Allure magazine. You can check out their pics above.
Jill Scott recently spoke about the spread:
“nobody ever celebrates women whose bodies are bigger than a size 8. But here I am, naked in a magazine at size 16. I hope that I can be an inspiration to all women. We’re all beautiful, each and every one of us.”

Jill Scott looks like a size 16. Stop trying to bring another woman down. Have you seen what a women who is a size 26 looks like? Have you seen Jill Scott in person? If you did, you clearly would not have made that comment. She is not as heavy as you may think. Obviously she is not as small as most women in the entertainment industry, but she is not as heavyset as you believe. Jill Scott is no where near a size 26.
I’m happy to see them do tasteful nude photos. There is nothing wrong with nudity or being sexy, the only problem is when it is used to exploit people and it is the only image you are given. However, this is not the case here. There is nothing wrong with tasteful nudity, and there is certainly not anything wrong with using these types of photos to sell magazines. That’s the whole purpose – to convey ideas and publish pictures and ads that people will want to read and see so that they will purchase your magazine. Even if what they are saying about embracing yourself and all of that other stuff is a gimmick to sell magazines, so what? They are magazine company, which means they sell magazines. This is far more tasteful than the pin up type of photos that are found in XXL, Maxim, and other magazines that include pictures of women.

You talk about respect and all of this, but your last line is “all you naked bitches buy some damn clothes.” You are clearly hypocritical. They are tastefully nude in a magazine and you say they are perpetuating stereotypes, however, you just called some women “bitches.” Before you look at other people’s so called wrongs, you need to take a hard look at yourself. Your response alone reveals your lack of respect for yourself and other women so how dare you even comment.
Why are you so angry? Even if you do not agree with nudity, why are you so mad? It seems like you have some other issues going on that you project onto other women. Women like you really annoy me because you profess to be the know-alls of proper behavior, but do not show a modicum of respect or dignity. Stop looking at other people’s supposed shortcomings and turn the mirror towards yourself.
Lastly, we all know how negatively Black women’s sexuality has been portrayed in the media. We all know that Black women’s bodies have put on display for the world to see in the most offensive manners. However, this does not mean that every single time a Black women shows her body it is wrong. It’s not what is being shown, it’s the manner by which it is done. So although there are many times when Black women’s bodies are put on display for the world in a way that is sexually offensive, this does not mean that every time you see a Black women’s body portrayed sexually that she is perpetuating negative stereotypes. If you believe that, then you are no better than the people who put Black women’s bodies on negative display because you have embraced the idea that our bodies automatically promote hyper-sexuality.
I love it, Gabrielle is nice but too skinny for my taste. But Jill Scott is freakin’ HOT.
But the trees are in the way!
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu betta get it jill.show em that thick is it!!!!!!!!!!!
GOOD FOR JILL SCOTT. SHE MADE A TELLING POINT THAT YOU CAN BE SEXY AND BEAUTIFUL AT ANY AGE AND SIZE!

Wow, I can’t believe all the drama created by these pictures. The whole point of this is to embrace female beauty in ALL of its forms. And it’s not just black women that participated in this shoot, so please drop the BS. Yes, sex appeal is the most powerful propaganda used in today’s media. Let’s look outside of the entertainment industry for a moment and take a look at the commercials that we all take for granted. With or without clothing, sex sells. If it didn’t, why would there be a modeling industry, and why would the criterion to succeed in such an industry be set a such high standards. Brava to these ladies, who are saying, ‘you can love me or hate me for it, but this is me as God intended, and I love it.”
Yes, sometimes I get sick of all of the nudity as well, especially for women of color who seem to be born into this world with two strikes against them. All of this aside, don’t waste your time complaining now unless you are offended every time a female entertainer comes out in stilettos, bra top and skirt just barely covering her goodies as well. Also, yes, it is more prevalent in the female population, but male sex sells as well. Didn’t D’Angelo shoot the video for Untitled in the nude? Were you complaining then and crying sexism? Every time a rapper of singer takes his shirt off and gyrates on stage, are we disgusted by the blunt display of sexuality? I think not. So love the pictures or hate them, but ladies, please don’t commit yourselves to this double standard of what is and isn’t appropriate that so many of you claim to hate yourselves.
Peace
