In what could be one of the biggest music deals in history, hip- hop mogul Jay-Z is continuing to expand on his already impressive professional empire, reportedly on the verge of signing a landmark deal with Live Nation worth an estimated $150 million.

According to the New York Times, the new the deal is the most lucrative one offered by Live Nation and is set to be finalized by week’s end. The deal will see the rapper/entrepreneur leaving Def Jam to start Roc Nation, a parent company which will house several of Jay’s business ventures.

The terms will include financing for his own entertainment venture, in addition to recordings and touring for the next ten years and will see Jigga splitting profits with Live Nation. The deal is aiming to position Live Nation to compete directly with major labels in the areas of record distribution as well as concert tickets and market merchandise.

“I’ve turned into the Rolling Stones of hip-hop,” Jay-Z said in a interview with the Times. [read more]

People forget that Jay has business managers, consultants, lawyers, and other big people to make deals. Jay doesnt walk into any establishment and make a deal by himself. I do give him credit for stepping out the box but lets face it, how many people want to hear a 42 year old rapping about drugs and hood life. I like Kanye because his music is good, its not about drugs and banging…..so I could see Kanye getting a deal like this.

quiet as kept, I think I am falling in love with Sean Carter….

Jay got what he got because it was deserved. He saved thousands of children and adults by installing water pumps, not to mention his S.Carter annual scholarship fund, his SILENT work with various other charities, computers he’s put in schools, etc. He does more HELP under the radar than that’s public info. He got more from Live Nation because they’re housing not only him and his concerts, but his ventures that were under Def Jam’s distribution as well as it’s money for his ROC label and the artists on their (Kanye, Bleek, Tru, SP, etc.). LIVE NATION IS BASED IN CONCERTS and that’s what they looked at from Jay. He’s the King of selling out concerts on top of being the business man that he is. His ventures aren’t failing – they looked at that too. JAY’S GOOD BANKABLE MONEY. No every idea or business move isn’t originated from him – Steve Stout will tell him sometimes if he thinks this is a good fit, etc., but BEST BELIEVE HOV ORIGINATES 80% or more of the business moves he’s made. He’s done that throughout his career – he’s always went to the left and originated a move that no one has made which made him the BUSINESS MAN that he is. Hov will be in demand to still tour on his own because he has tons of hits he’s never even done in concert, so he could go on another 10 years. BUT IT’S NOT JUST HIM THAT’LL BE TOURING – HE’S GOING TO PUT OTHERS ON TOUR WITHOUT HIM.

This move was made so he can finally take a back seat and push his artists. He doesn’t want to go on forever, but he had to come out in 4th quarters to keep his label ROC afloat and when Kanye became an artist, Jay didn’t have to drop as much – that’s smart business.

It’s not a joke or a fluke that he’s about $300 mil away from being a billionaire.

Since everyone has reduced Kanye’s new venture to the basest of levels, why not Jay Z’s? After all the replies (including my earlier comments) nobody has when it can be said that his new venture with Live Nation is essentially a loan with crazy interest. He’s getting $150 that they’ll make three times over when they eat up profits from his concerts… because he absolutely can tour forever, he has built that sort of following… I doubt this company is giving him a deal because they want him to build a label with other artists or even sell his own records… They’re basically buying HIM and getting it back tenfold over the years… It’s what’s commonly called selling out.

@51 Jay is the only rapper on the list.
Like he said Billionaire Hov he is on pace to make it!! Get it boy

yeah, but the Jonas Brothers are on it too, as of a month ago…so…

  10. I.N.T.O.

@ #45 I understand what you are saying. That is pricey for a concert that many young people will attend. Most people Jay’s age are trying to get their grown and sexy on. And his topics don’t seem worth that kind of money.
@ #67 It seems as if you see through the smoke screens. Me too. LOL!

Shawn Carter is the ultimate business man!

    #72 CHERYLINMIAMI,
I never said you said anything about a list… I responded to #68..I thought that was clear…Your last reply was #45, right? Did you accidentally respond under the wrong name?

  14. Dame

@69 I said Jay is the only rapper on the list and the Jonas brothers are Disney!

  15. @51- Thanks for that list. People seem to forget that Jayz hangs with billionaires like Bob Johnson – BET founder. He is no doubt under Johnson’s wings. Every move Jayz makes seems to be a joint effort, never a direct move on his own. Ten years is a long time to be under a contract- it’s a risk, but who knows it could indeed be a profitable move after all. Maybe the uninformed are overly impressed, but he stay in the news with all these business ventures when theres many celebs making lucrative business deals all the time.

  16. Superman's_Girl

how could somebody hear about this news and tell jay to sit down with his “old ass?” LOL, you are NEVER too old to make $$$, get real.
