MINI ROUNDUP: LALA SUPPORTS HER MAN / ALICIA KEYS CLEARS UP STATEMENTS
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Basketball star Carmelo Anthony and his fiancée LaLa Vazquez spoke to PEOPLE.COM about his recent DUI arrest and those Internet reports that stated she was unsupportive and wouldn’t pick him up from the police station.
“I want to make sure the public understands that I fully support my fiancé, Carmelo Anthony, and stand by him through this ordeal,” Vazquez, a former MTV veejay, says in a statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday. “I will always have his back and never refused to pick him up from the police station. In fact, they offered to bring him to me.”
The NBA star reiterated his love for Vazquez in his own statement to PEOPLE: “LaLa continues to be a rock in my life, she’s always been there for me through thick and thin.” [SOURCE]
The couple have a child together, 1-year-old son Kiyan.
ALICIA KEYS CLEARS UP “GANGSTA RAP” STATEMENT
In the interview, Alicia Keys speaks with the Tom Joyner Morning Show about her “gangsta rap” comments.
The singer says she did not say the government created gangsta rap, or that the government killed Tupac and Biggie, but rather that media sensationalism fueled both “gangsta rap” and the “East Coast, West Coast” beef. She also addresses the real meaning of the AK-47 pendant.

People need to understand that Alicia is not your average artist. She’s always kept true to herself. I support Alicia Keys for speaking her mind regardless of whats political correct or not. In the words of her MTV Unplug “Either love it or leave it alone”.

Exactly when is the wedding, I guess this is the new age just shack up and have babies huh, unless they want to make sure this is what they want. If so that’s cool but hold off on the babies until that happens.
And here is a question.
What is wrong with these stars and drinking & driving can’t they have someone take them home?
Just wondering!

I am sorry, but there is no excuse for drunk driving. to many innocent people are killed and the person who usually walks away unscathed is the drunk driver! If he were my man I would chew his a** out! then again, I am sure she is thinking this man supports me so I better get him out of jail

Alicia didnt need to clear up a dang thing, she was right wit what she said and for the people to ignorant and uneducated to realize that the government DID not only have they hand in gangsta rap, and the Tupac killing, but i mean damn near everything else that keeps black people living the way they are, from drugs and poor education (Ronald Regan) to poor housing, incarceration rates, minimal black owned business, even down to the way were portrayed in the media…. educate yourselves fareal

Alicia Keys whats to be “harder” then she is, she is not a revolutionist. Why are so many bi-racial children confused. Yeah I said it, you are either too black or too white, just be…damn!
I find it funny how when its cool to be latin now people who used to pass for “black” or “white” now use their hispanic last names and so and so forth. Not saying Lala has never claimed her heritage I just find it funny because that is the first time I have seen her last name printed anywhere.

Only negative people looking for DRAMA would have believed that she meant that the government created gangsta rap. It was clear to me that she meant that they fueled it, WHICH IS TRUE!!
I always liked Alicia Keys, but now I definately have more respect for her now. True she is an artist, but she is a PERSON. She has opinions and views. Shes not a damn puppet, who is afraid to let people know she actually has a damn brain.

Most interviewers do this. ‘They’ learnt or trained to be antagonistic towards everyone doesnt matter who they are. They are quick to judge and pick faults with anything even if u are good or bad, because of course bad news gives them more views.
Also when they have something written it its like in stone. Its like someone else writing a biography of u. These very interviewers are the same, and so is ‘This’ blog. Thus everyone follows u like sheep.
Only the person themselves in their heart can truly know what was intended. I could never really interview someone, if so I would try to be over polite and very concerned for them and their feelings. Making me look like an idiot. And no I am not perfect because I even like to leave comments like WTF he on crack or this say the person has obviously lost it.
And ‘yes’ I think everyone does this but its only to bring another person down.
Maybe a messed up rant but right now IDC.

Just read my comment above and some other comments, and looks like I just schooled the board. Better yet I schooled the world hahahahahhahaaaaa!!!!!!

Lala and Carmello didn’t need to release a statement. It was not that serious. Who cared if she picked him up from police station or not. Im sure that wouldn’t destroy her career or public image. Jeez, I didn’t even know anyone even cared that much about the situation to the point where they are releasing statements and what not.
They need to reeeally kill the Alicia situation. She just said what everyone else been saying for years. I hate the hypocrisy of this country…
Neither one of these situations are that serious. Dudes get locked up everyday for DUI’s and I’m sure Alicia didn’t say half of what she reeaally wanted to say. The media need to piper down. They’re so press for a story. They’ll call anything “breaking news” nowadays

Tupac said he felt that the FBI was constantly after him and his family because of his parents involvement with the Black Panthers.
Jean Seberg, a white actress, who voiced support for the NAACP, Native Americans, and the Black Panthers Party, was targeted by the FBI. She was later found dead in a car. Police ruled the death a suicide, but later the suicide was found questionable.
Do not underestimate what atrocities the government is capable of.

This Alicia Keys story is a prime example of the sad and pathetic time that we live in. It shows you that people can and will be persecuted for their thoughts, especially if you’re not willing to defer to the powers that be. I knew that the story would either be overblown and used as a way to destroy her career or the story would be swept under the rug. I had a feeling that it wouldn’t be swept under the rug because the white man has glorified her so much so they’re not going to let her slide with comments like that. Her people probably made it very clear to her exactly what was on the line, and what she must now do to restore her “image” (whatever contrived image that is). That means making the rounds on these moronic black radio shows with these simple coons and watering down what she said. Due to the fact that 90% of black people have deteriorated into either thug idiots or pseudo-educated idiots, a real black person cannot even evoke real thoughts without trepidation. It’s sad because black people have backed themselves into a corner where they have allowed themselves to be suckered into believing that they can’t alienate anyone when everyone alienates them but smiles to their face.
She can attempt to soften up her stance, the fact of the matter is that she feels a certain way and there’s nothing wrong with that, but it proves that one must sell their soul and forsake who they are to achieve reknown in this society. There is no getting around that. The tone of the interview became what it became and whatever white person interviewed her tricked her into getting comfortable enough to start speaking real, and no one in this society can think or speak real unless they’re ready to lose everything. It’s sad and it’s a bad omen for the black community as a whole but good in that the brothers and sisters that do emerge in these last days will have to be strong enough to separate themselves from this society and the majority of these other weak black people. This is why this thought of having “conversations on race” will go nowhere because black people are the only ones that want to have these conversations and they’re approaching them from a subservient perspective.

Alicia I think you should have been more careful with your words. I don’t know you personally but I thought it was way out of your arena to talk such talk (especially with the AK47 thing). I don’t think its in no way smart to have that around your neck for no reason and what type of message does that send to our youth. Be careful what you say because you know people will take it out of context; especially when you’re in the spotlight.

Well Done, I am not too taken to see what is going on in nowadays society, and through life experiences and learned history that most ppl who are from African Descent are also forgetting who they are in a sense they are Kings and Queens, trying to fit into the mold set by society and somewhat warped media.
And I know ppl are trying to set trends here, but what the hell are their inspirations? My thoughts only.

——————————————————————————————————————-
She is R&B and Hiphop/Soul. And #2 they ASKED her the question, because of her urban influences in music, they asked her to share her views as an artist on an artistic form that cause 2 people to die, it’s not like she talked about it just for the sake of it.
And like people said, Alicia didn’t have to clear up ANYTHING because what she said was true and clear. She said they FUELED it not that they “created” it. People just love drama, and can’t HANDLE the truth!!!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 /
Alicia never said that. She said that the media fueled the situation by oversloganizing the word gangsta rap. The media overhyped this whole feud by basically pitting these two against eachother. She never said that the government invented gangsta rap so that black people could kill eachother. She never put all the blame on the government. She never said people promoting a gangsta lifestyle aren’t wrong. She just said the media played a big part in putting so much emphasis on gangsta rap, that it gave the black community a bad image, and ultimately helped fuel this feud and those assassinations, like a catalyst.
It’s the media. Things like Blender (media) twist up words to make it seem more radical. Anything to sell. Anything to break down someone positive, for their own profit. That’s basically what media is today.

I know what Alicia Keys was saying… She was saying that rap was rap. Bigge was not a ‘gangsta’ rapper as ’some’ people ‘invented’ the term.. ‘WE’ never called Biggie and TuPac ‘gangsta’ rappers. Black people never NAMED them ‘gangsta’ rappers…. That was the term that the ‘MEDIA’ gave rappers who didnt rhyme like ‘Will Smith’…. They’re always trying to categorize things that they dont even understand!! Biggie and Tupac were not even ‘gangsters’!!!.. But ‘WE’ know that.

It sounds like Alicia was doing a lot of vague talking out of her a88 and now she’s backtracking…but why??? If she won’t stand by her statement, I will: GANGSTER RAP IS THE REASON SO MANY KIDS ARE IN GANGS AND DYING AND DROPPING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AT ASTRONOMICAL LEVELS. GANGSTER RAP IS WHY MOST BLACK KIDS ARE MEDIOCRE AND COMPLETELY DISINTERESTED IN ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY EDUCATIONAL. GANGSTER RAP IS THE ONE AND ONLY THING HOLDING US BACK, IT IS BLACK ON BLACK CRIME BECAUSE THE MUSIC IS NOT JUST ENTERTAINMENT IN A CULTURE THAT HAS BEGUN TO LOVE WHAT THEY ONCE RAILED AGAINST. A GANGSTER FILM OR ROCK N ROLL TO WHITE PEOPLE IS NOT THE SAME AS GANGSTER RAP TO US BECAUSE THEY CAN PARTY AND BE ENTERTAINTED AND YET HAVE SOME SENSE OF THEIR ALTERNATE REALITY BUT WHEN YOU RAP ABOUT ABJECT POVERTY AND VIOLENCE, WHEN YOU PROMOTE IT TO KIDS WHO ACTUALLY KNOW THAT REALITY, YOU DO MUCH MORE THAN “ENTERTAIN,” YOU DAMN THEM TO COMPLACENCY AND OUR PATHETIC DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR.

It would have been better for her to leave it alone instead of responding to the media. They played her good. Whether it was true or not. She’s focused on defending her man to the public how about keeping whatever went on behind closed doors and let us say whatever. Dont live your life feeling like you have to defend everything.
