Keshia Knight Pulliam, best known as little Rudy off The Cosby Show, will be in the next film coming from Tyler Perry - Madea Goes To Jail. The Hollywood Reporter reports:
Keshia Knight Pulliam will star as an imprisoned prostitute in “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.” Derek Luke also stars, along with Tamela Mann and David Mann.
The Lionsgate comedy centers on Madea (Perry), whose penchant for trouble-making lands her behind bars. She comes to the rescue of Candy (Pulliam), a fellow inmate preyed upon by a large woman named Big Sal. Luke is on track to play Joshua, an attorney who has a past with Candy.
I still have to get use to Keshia not playing the innocent role in Beauty Shop. Tyler, on the other hand is making bIg moves - this is the second film he is working on this year along with The Family That Preys - which already has an all star cast including Sanaa Lathan, Robin Givens, and Jennifer Hudson…
PROMO PICS: G.I JOE

This week, promo pictures were released of the cast from the highly anticipated action-packed film adaptation of G.I Joe. Channing Tatum stars as Duke, while Marlon Wayans costars as the character Ripcord.
The movie is set to hit theaters next year. See more photos of the rest of the cast here…
THANDIE TO PLAY CONDOLEEZZA

Thandie Newton has been selected to play The Secretary Of The State, Condoleezza Rice in the upcoming Oliver Stone flick W. Blackfilm reports and tells more about the premise of the film:
Oliver Stone has found the actress to play Condoleezza Rice in his upcoming “W,” with Thandie Newton in final negotiations to star as the National Security Advisor-turned-Secretary of State.
The movie will look at Bush’s formative years and path to the president as well as his life inside the White House.
As one of the few cabinet members to serve during both Bush terms, Rice’s role in the Bush White House is seen as pivotal. According to those who’ve read the “W” script, Rice is said to be in a key first scene as well as a number of scenes connected to the Iraq war. READ MORE

Tyler Perry is really doing too much. All these back to back movies is not the business. The public starts to get tired of something real quick if they get too much of it.
Television shows being turned into movies is tired too. I do wanna see G.I. Joe though…

Keshia really needs to step her game up. First she was a fast ass in Beauty Shop and now she’s a prostitute. Hollywood is really hitting black actresses hard huh? Getting typecast as another hot female is so not the biz. I’d like to see do something more positive and less stereotypical. She can’t be hurting for money. I know the royalties from Cos are killer.

Ok, I think its time for Tyler Perry to stop with all these prositiutes on film. You can’t remake every play! “Why Did I Get Married” was a great movie though!

When MSN ran an op-ed piece about the lack of quality in Tyler Perry movies a lot of Black (and some non-Black) people went bonkers. Similarly, when my local paper did a movie review and the White critic panned his movie (whichever one came before “…Get Married”) a lot of people cried racism. When his stage plays came to town several years ago I saw every one. But I have personally never seen a Tyler Perry movie. That’s because to me it seems like it would be a recycled waste of time. His stage plays were so lively and improvised that anything poorly crafted (like a Hollywood movie) would pale in comparison.
I understand that White producers make shitty movies and bank all day long. But just like with the whole ‘all Blacks who act shameful don’t represent each other’ argument, it stands to reason that Whites can afford to be whatever they want because there is mass representation for them. For us, it’s either a gangster flick, a buffoonish comedy shtick or love triangle. We’re so limited in the roles we create for ourselves that it doesn’t make sense to keep feeding into the stereotypes. I’m not saying he shouldn’t make money. I’m saying that now that he’s in the game, switch it up, bring a new formula to the table, expand your craft and artistry and stop acting like all Black folks want to do is laugh. We have may painful examples from the past and present that can and should be represented on screen. Do you Tyler. But, for me, I’ll take substance over style any day.

Tyler Perry makes some great movies that speak to the soul. He’s good on the family issues and issues that plague the black community.

Tyler Perry is definitely tsying on his hustle, and he’s keeping the brothers and sisters working…. that’s a wonderful thing.
I’m glad to see Marlon Wayans expand his roles, you can’t play the comic role forever. He’s a talented brother - let him showcase his diversity.

He played in an independent film called REQUIEM FOR A DREAM with Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly, It was nominated for an academy award (I watched it for school) and yes he played a serious role and did a VERY good job, I think his best role. That movie was depressing, but very well crafted, DON’T DO DRUGS!!!

= Yea for Marlon! He’s the most talented Wayans when it comes to acting and being NATURALLY funny!
= Thandie as Condoleeza? They’ll probably give Thandie some fake teeth that resemble Condoleeze’s. Real talk! That’s the only way Thandie will pull of looking like her. And a darker shade of make-up.
= I’m so tired of Keshia trying to desperately hard to shake the “Rudy” image. First it was the spread in black mens magazine and the Chingy video. And then the skank role she had in “Beauty Shop”. Now a prostitute! She could be her own worst enemy by doing this. If she only realized that if she played a serious role well enough that she would be taken seriously. You don’t have to go so far left with your image in order for people to see you in a new light.

It’s funny you have a post about upcoming movies.I took a long lunch to hit a few at a driving range with a friend, because an 80 degree day in Cleveland at this time of the year is rare, when another friend told us that they were filming Jamie Fox’s new bio-pic here today. They had the old cars and clothes from the fifties and everything,it gave me a better understanding of how much money it takes to make a movie, because they were here all day filming and they are only going to use ten minutes of what they shot.

I’d like to see Marlon in another role like the one he played in ‘Requiem For a Dream.’ That was the best movie/role he’s ever played.
Tyler Perry movies and plays are degrading to the black race, as is BET, and I refuse to support him.
Thandie Newton is GORGEOUS… I wonder if they will make her wear prosthetics to ugly her up enough to look like Condee.

People can say what they want about Tyler Perry, but I love the fact that he’s consistently employing black actors and giving them major roles. Which other directors rarely do. Sanaa, Nia, and Gabrielle were saying in Essence a while back how hard it was for them to find consistent acting work. That’s sad.
It’ll interesting to see how the plot of the Condi film will turn out because Condoleeza is such a private person.

Marlon is one the most talented individuals ever in the entertainment industry. No one should be surprised by a comedian doing drama. Any honest actor will tell you that, comedy is the hardest of all to do.
Look at Tyler Perry. Any black folks who want to tell you that there’s been no progress for black folks ( and believe me, those fools are out there) is just insane. This guy is doing his thing. But so are the Wayan brothers, Spike Lee, Latifah, Diddy., and on and on. These people control the projects, so they don’t just make upfront money, they make the real money: on the back end.

I think ya’ll are over-exaggerating. Diary of a Mad Black Woman was good, Family Reunion was descent, Daddy’s Little Girls was good(the ending was a little cheesy but still good), Why Did I Get Married was great, Meet the Browns??? Okay, only one film was questionable. The stories in the film were authentic. Alot of Tyler’s stories are based on struggles of real people. It’s nothing negative about Tyler’s films. Where there are negative characters in his films there are also positive.
