♫ NEWS: BRANDY’S NEW DEAL / CIARA GEARS UP FOR RELEASE / ROBIN THICKE ON NEW ALBUM / TEEDRA SPEAKS ON TVT SITUATION

Friday, April 11, 2008

After much speculation, it seems that R&B songstress Brandy has inked a deal with Epic Records. It’s been about 4 years since Brandy parted ways with long-time label Atlantic Records, who released Brandy’s fourth studio LP, Afrodisiac back in 2004. Brandy has been working on her comeback album, which I’ve heard will be executive produced by Bryan-Michael Cox, and contain productions from long-time collaborator and friend, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, as well as songs penned by Keri Hilson and The Clutch.

I’m eager to hear some new music from Brandy. I really am excited about her project. I’m hoping that Epic will give Brandy the promotion she needs and deserves. The 28-year-old singer has been in the game for a while - she definitely is a veteran and deserves her shine in the game. Hopefully, she continues to knock out hits and give us great vocal arrangements and adlibs. Can’t wait, Brandy!

CIARA GEARS UP FOR FANTASY RIDE

Ciara is gearing up for the release of her third album, which is tentatively titled Fantasy Ride. She has decided that the first single will be the Ludacris-featured “High Price,” which has been reported to have a more “crunk&B” sound. I’m guessing that it will be more similar to the last single she released from Evolution, “That’s Right,” which was produced by and featuring crunk pioneer, Lil’ Jon.

Fantasy Ride will be Ciara’s follow-up release to her sophomore set, 2006’s The Evolution, which garnered a lot of attention during the time of its release and put out a few singles. This time around, Ciara is tapping producers Polow Da Don, who produced her first single from Evolution, “Promise,” as well as Timbaland protege, Nate “Danjahandz” Hill, who has been knocking out plenty of hits over the past couple years, as well as hook master T-Pain and the talented members of The Clutch, who she worked with on her second single, “Like A Boy.”

I’m hoping that the new single is not representative of the rest of the material on the album. As much as I want to like Ciara and what she’s doing, she can’t put out an album full of “crunk” in 2008. I’m hoping for some dance tracks that Ciara can do great video work too. Fantasy Ride is slated for release either in late August or early September.

ROBIN THICKE REVEALS INFO ON NEW ALBUM

robinthicke.jpg

Robin Thicke has revelead new information about the status and title of his album. He even revelead a few track titles. Something Else, the working titled for Thicke’s third studio album, will be the follow-up the 2006’s critically acclaimed The Evolution of Robin Thicke.

Robin Thicke invited several people to have a listening session of his new materials earlier this week in Legacy Studio. A rep from SOHH.com who participated at the event wrote that Thicke offered glasses of champagne because his album is about “wine and bubbly music.”

Thicke, operating the board himself, previewed tracks such as “SideStep,” “Magic,” “Dream World,” “Sweetest Love” and “Mr. Loverman.” He also shared snippets of songs that he’s still working on. One he described as a “Curtis Mayfield-like” piece and another “down south, sweat drippin’, grab a lemonade” track. According to reports, Robin plans to release the album in June with “Magic” as a possible first single.

TEEDRA MOSES SPEAKS ON TVT SITUATION

teedra.jpg

The super talented and underrated singer/songwriter Teedra Moses finally speaks out about the bankruptcy situation at her label, TVT Records.

The Lousiana native opened up in an interview with All Hip Hop Alternatives, and here’s what she had to say:

AHHA: Before they went into bankruptcy, I’m sure you had a lot of meetings with them about the album and the release date. What reasons were they giving you about why the album had to keep getting pushed back?

Teedra: Our communication was just horrible. The person I was dealing with from TVT was Brian Leech. He was the A&R that came to the studio and listened to what you were doing. Through him I was able to communicate with the label.

I’m not the type of person that can easily sit in the midst of all the technical stuff. I try to stay away from all that so I can be creative and do what I do without the restraints of thinking about what A&R’s have to do. That’s why I have people around for those jobs.

So once Brian left, there was really no way to communicate with them as an artist. There was no music person there. There were a couple other A&R’s, but they used to be assistants. There was no music person to really communicate with that could understand the vision I had.

You have to have that person to translate the vision to the label. It was a hard situation because everything was in disarray, and after Brian left, everything just started to fall apart. There were a lot of people underneath Brian that left too, and it kinda fell apart, unfortunately.

AHHA: So are you a complete free agent at this point?

Teedra: Not exactly; I’m not off TVT yet, but it’s something I’m moving towards. It’s very, very near.

I hope this takes place quickly. I’ve been waiting on the new album, The Young Lioness for forever. Keep it moving, Teedra!

This is exciting album news. I am definitely looking forward to Brandy’s and Robin Thicke’s albums.

Thanks for also posting an update on the Teedra situation. I was thinking about what was going on with Teedra the other day while I was listening Complex Simplicity. I love that album. It’s so reminiscent of the late 90’s era when R&B wasn’t so gimmicky and all about hot beats like it is now. The tracks on the CD also flow together nicely too. Anyway, I’m hoping she’ll get signed by someone soon because I’m checking for her 2nd album. Hopefully the next time around people will stop sleeping.

I’m actually excited about all projects. Ciara has the dance hits, Brandy has the feel good “R&B like it should be (and used to be)” hits and Robin has the pop-soul fix. Teedra’s sexy ass has actual talent and after her last album, I’ve been waiting for a comeback! Go ahead Ms. Lady and hopefully you’ll see thru the drama and be blessed!

Ciara look like Bootsy Collins in that pic. Don’t go there girl! Luda helpin out a lot of his folks down in the A. Personally I can’t wait for dat Lloyd CD to come out in July. I’m glad to see Brandy back on track. She did not intentionally hit that woman. If anyone every operated a motor vehicle on the crazy azzed freeways of LA know it don’t take much to be in an accident. The only place worse is Brazil. If it wasn’t for the grace of de Lawd I would have flattened a few people under my big azzed rims too - and I’m a slow driiver!

The *only* CD I will be at the store waiting for on release day is Robin Thicke. His songs are great, smooth, and not “hip hopped out”. Never cared much for Ciara, Teedra. Brandy? I don’t know. If she does come out with an album, I’ll let people give their opinions on before I get it. Her last two albums didn’t do it for me.

Can’t wait for Thicke’s album! I love “Magic” and I know the rest of it’s gonna be hot!!!

I’ve heard several songs off of Ciara’s new album and they are nothing like “That’s Right.” Try finding “Click, Flash” or “Supernatural.” I also don’t think “High Price” is actually her song.
