Singer Leona Lewis has become the first British woman to top the US pop chart for more than 20 years with her single Bleeding Love. The track, which was last year’s best-selling single in the UK, was released in the US six weeks ago.
Lewis wrote on her website that it was her “dream” to break America.
“I’m so excited to be able to spend some time in the US and showcase my music to everyone here,” the former receptionist from east London said. “Its been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I can’t wait.”
In related news, various media sources say that Simon Cowell (Leona’s manager) recently bought her a 5 million dollar home in California…

Michelle is everything and Leona is the FUTURE. Mariah can’t even sing her own songs anymore. PiPi couldn’t even sing Touch my body on The Hills premiere party. Thats song isn’t that difficult to sing. Leona is the next great voice. I love her emotion and power in her voice.

And I always knew for damn sure that people would hate on Leona! She’s a rising star and people can’t except that. She sings better than 90% of the female artist currently in the game right now with 10% being Beyoshi and Christina A., etc. And yes Leona is Afro-Carribean Guyanese Decent. So please let the girl do her thing! Its such a crime to hate on someone who has talent. Its almost like its impossible for any artist to be clear from random haters. She’s pretty, sweet, kind, and is extremely talently but I guess that not enough for the CL bloggers.

Michelle and Solange are the ones to watch this year–”We Break the Dawn” and “I Decided” are hot singles. They are going to be hot. and when Beyonce’ releases her next album its going to be hot too. I feel bad for Kelly. she’s the only one who seems like she can’t get it together.
Leona IS the future! Please don’t compare her to old (but granted, great in their time) Houston and Carey! She is not another Whitney; Mariah is. She is not another Mariah; Whitney is. Leona is Leona; she is LEONA the first!
And, for the information of the yanks amongst us, X-Factor is NOT the British ‘American Idol’! ‘American Idol’ is the American ‘Pop Idol’ (a British show).
A few years ago, a guy called Simon Fuller (English, btw)created a show in England called ‘Pop Idol’. It ran for a couple of years (seasons as you yanks like to call them) and then the shrewd Mr Fuller thought the show (and he) might do well in the US, and thus ‘American Idol’ was born. He didn’t do this on his own, of course, he took along Nigel Lithgoe and Ken Warwick (Pop Idol producers) as well as Simon Cowell, who had been a judge on Pop Idol. Pop Idol disappeared from the UK and effectively travelled across the pond lock stock and barrel. Mr Cowell, however, tried to resurrect Pop Idol in the UK, but legal and copyright issues prevented him doing so. Thus X-Factor was born. The format is similar to Pop Idol (and AI ) but the judges are in competition with each other too. There are 4 categories of contestant, i.e. Under 16′s, Under 25′s, Over 25′s, and Groups. When it gets to the final 12, there are 3 acts in each category, and each category is mentored by one of the judges. (Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Danni Minogue and Louis Walsh). Each week, after the public vote, the 2 lowest scoring acts perform again, and the judges decide who goes home. (The Under 16 category was new last year; prior to that there were 3 judges but the same format applied) In the final, the vote reverts to the public only: the judges have no say in who wins.

I I really didn’t care for Leona’s CD. The songs were whack as if they were sort of cranked out real fast so they could market her to an American audience but this British gal does have pipes. She can’t touch Mariah though musically but she is still a much stronger force than these other “prepackaged” young singers out there. Seems as if all a gal needs nowadays to be a singer is to be a lightskinned biracial girl who is all body but no voice. At least Leona does have a voice but she does need better songwriters because the songs were all the same and too pop-oriented for my taste.
She is half black half white.
More specifically she is Afro-Caribbean on her father’s side and Welsh, Italian, and Irish on her mother’s side.
