NEWS: COPS ACQUITTED IN SEAN BELL CASE
Friday, April 25, 2008
A crowd reacts to the verdict in the Sean Bell shooting case outside the Queens County Criminal Courts Building in New York Friday, April 25.
Three detectives were acquitted of all charges Friday in the killing of Sean Bell. Bell died after being bombarded with 50 bullets by the New York Police Department back in 2006.
Detectives Michael Oliver and Gescard Isnora were found not guilty of charges of manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment in the death of Sean Bell, 23, and the wounding of two of his friends. Detective Marc Cooper was acquitted of reckless endangerment.
Justice Arthur Cooperman said he found problems with the prosecution’s case. He said some prosecution witnesses contradicted themselves, and he cited prior convictions and incarcerations of witnesses.
As the judge read his decision, Nicole Paultre Bell — Sean Bell’s fiancee — ran from the courtroom crying, saying, “I’ve got to get out of here.”

Backstory
In the early morning hours of Nov. 25, 2006, Sean Bell, a 23-year-old New York City man due to be married later that day, walked out of a Queens strip club, climbed into a gray Nissan Altima with two friends who had been celebrating with him - and died in a hail of 50 bullets fired by a group of five police officers.
The shooting shocked the city and brought back memories of the deaths in other high-profile police shootings - in particular, the death of Amadou Diallo, an African peddler killed after police fired 41 shots at him in 1999. Both men were black and both were unarmed, although in both cases the officers appeared to have believed the suspect had a gun. While the death of Mr. Bell did not prompt the same levels of rage and protest as the Diallo case, it prompted unsettling questions about the changes in police procedures adopted in recent years, and about whether black men remained unfairly singled out for aggressive police action.

This is crazy, I am so mad right now after reading the story on my homepage. There’s so much injustice with this story. After all of that gunfire NO WEAPONS were found on Bell including his friends that were shot too, but lived. That’s crazy! I really feel for Bell’s fiance and their children. They need prayer right now more than anything. We all do!

wasn’t one of the cops black? i don’t think this is a race thing. black people always trying to make everything about race. this was a “connection thing”. The judge made the ruling, the cops are apart of his circle of power. Plain and simple.
……
You got one part right about it being about the circle of power and higher ups looking out for eachother. It is still about race, nonetheless. Even though main trigger happy cop was Black he still did the racist whites a favor. That’s easy for anyone to understand. One more Black man dead and away from his family and raising his children, which is definitely needed in our Black communities.

You know its a sign of the times when a dog’s life and unpaid taxes are more severe than a black man being shot on what is suppose to be the happiest day of his life.
Not only is a dog’s life more valuable than a human’s life, it has been proven more than once IN 2007!
I know for a fact that a lady left her baby in the car b/c her fat ass was too busy thinking about some damn DONUTS and her baby died. No charges were filed. Oh and she was on camera making more than one trip to take the donuts into the building. THEN she moved the car.
A fucking dead dog was left in a girls backyard by her NEPHEW and she got locked the fuck up for a minute. It wasn’t even her dog AND the NEPHEW admitted to leaving the dead dog there! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is another sad outcome.. It’s not black or white it’s a BLUE thing! It’s an NYPD thing! This isn’t racism it’s the unspoken code amongst law enforcement. At the very least they should have rec’d a reckless endangerment charge! Dude reloaded…
No one wins in this case…..
The other victims messed up also when they didn’t stick to the grand jury version of their story… their police records didn’t give them any credibility and then they embellished their original stories… the law is the law.. whom does it protect? well we know it protects those “who serve us”…. their embellishments helped allow a clear path to a not guilty verdict. The police records would have been a non-issue had they stuck to their original story… People tend to tell the truth as it happened and remembered right after an event…. and even if they embellised a little right after it happened it wouldn’t have mattered.. they embellished a lot… str8 lied on some things…

This is truely an outrage, even if Sean and his friends were in the wrong, the officers did not have to shoot that many times. I really feel for his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. One of the officers was a black man, so this really has nothing to do with race. The police and the judge were all on the same team. Besides they don’t care if we kill each other. It’s all about the police being a gang and sticking to their stories so that they can do what ever they want to whom ever they want and not being afraid of being in the wrong. If you kill a dog then you go to jail and if you have a badge and you recklessly kill people then you get a get outta jail free card. I hate police because they have never protected me and my own nor have they ever solved any shootings in my neighborhood or even investigated it.
I really hope that we as a people stand up and support the Bell family when they appeal this ridiculous and unjustly verdict. I also hope that those officers who did the crime stay outta sight for a while because I think they might be on a hit list out there. The people outside the court house looked really pissed off. I just hope that everyone goes about handling this case the right way so that justice will be served.

Did I ever say that I condone racism?! Please tell me where I said that? So stop making an ASS of yourself. It’s very sad that a young man died. But the judge made the decision that he thought was fair based on evidence presented. And it’s not like the judge allowed the cops to get off because they were cops, he had sentenced a couple of cops to jail prior.

#24 this is about race! And it doesn’t matter if one of the cops were black. I’m not sure what it is but when officers graduate from that academy they see nothing but blue! Some of the black ones r worst than the white ones(like that black office in boyz in the hood)! I’m not saying all but most! If race isn’t a factor then why doesn’t this same sh*t happen in white neighborhods? It only happens in black and latino communities! If its not about race then what is it about?

@ SAMECH. Min. Farrakhan will be speaking on this subject (Sean Bell) and the senseless shootings and killings that have taken place in Chicago and all over the country tonight at his temple in Chicago. He’s gone around the country and has made a series of Stop the Killing speeches urging those of us who inhabit this country and the world to have more respect for life. Obviously people aren’t listening. Which is sad because it’s only going to get worse as a result of that.

Fuck a case…fuck any evidence…this brother was murdered - the actions taken by these officers were unjust, unbelievable, and wreckless!
I don’t give two shits about a jury they murdered an unarmed young man that didn’t commit any crime. There actions was based solely on wild assumptions!
Don’t bring that shit in here talking about “they had shitty witnesses” .
The man got hit 30 something times and he didn’t have a weapon what more do we need to know!
Seriously,
Fuck this blog shit …Get strapped up!
All the 5’s and 6’s out there need to put down the weed and the coke and start banging for their freedom instead on each other!
Shit is ridiculous…
You mean to tell me that the NYPD has the given right to take my life based off of pure assumptions!

So while all these young black people are complaining about T.I. not being punished severely for HAVING (not using) guns, have a look at how the system works against black men EVERYDAY. How can you shoot someone 50 times and not be deemed reckless?…..if the victim were white these guys would have been convicted! For every ONE black male we have that beats the system (T.I.), they get TEN of us back.
Don’t complain when we get ONE!!!

Regular officers do not shoot criminals that much even if they did have a gun…the damn SWAT team does. I just can’t understand why the police would have to fire 50 shots at an individual even if there were a gun involved. That type of gun play should be directed towards more of a serious situation bank robbery gone bad etc. Shameless to say I’ve heard about this story more than once but never read deep into to know what exactly happened but still I say the procedures taken by the NYPD was unjustly. That’s why there is a constant fear of the police and never no cooperation. My heart and prayers go out to the family of Sean Bell.

This is a spiritual war. It’s no longer exclusively black versus white, it never was exclusively that. The coon negro element has always been utilized to cause confusion and blur the lines of truth and still are utilized for that purpose. The black and hispanic cops are the same entity as the white man and operate with the same mind. They may join the police force with upright intentions; and many just join for a paycheck, but they must prove to the white element of the police force that their loyalties lie with the police force, not their own people. As the United States economy continues to fall and the pay scale for police continues to plummet, as it has in New York, look for more and more publicized cases of black men being gunned down by black and hispanic cops. The white man no longer finds it necessary to dirty his own hands when he has good, loyal coon negroes that can do it for him. All one has to do is look at the new ranks of the police and how they’ve obviously lowered their standards to acceptance into the police department to see that the training cannot be up to par if the hiring is not up to par.

Dam, this just goes to show you just how much “our” justice system and societ y values a black life. But I pose a question do value our own lives? You see this court took in consideration the history and the reputation of these guys. (aside fronm being Black) These guys had criminal records and drug offences. I my eyes and for most of us that should not matter beacuse 50 bullets fired at an unarmed man wether a former felon or not is criminal. But we as need to become more a part of the system politically. We must frown on the ideas that:BEING a felone is cool, being a H.S. dropout is acceptable, having gang affiliation is cool, getting good grades as uncool. not voting! Walking around with your pants hanging off your A$$?? I know there are so many things that the prejudice people in general will define or equate as being black. But,there are so many things that we naturally place in our way to deter our influence in society, all the while our justice system does not respect us. We have to look at ourselves as well an get our houses in order, socio-economically and politically. NOW WHO DO WE HAVE TO RELY ON TO GET JUSTICE FOR THE BELL CASE? THE FEDS!!! WHAT A JOKE! we need to wake up!

Understanding the fact of having to shoot because “I though my life was in danger”. Why not shoot to disable if you thought you were in danger? Get out of the way, until back up arrives; but to take a life rather he had criminal behavior at one point or another is really irrelevant. How can you justify, taking a man’s life that was UNARMED?! Why didn’t the cops shoot the tires on the car to disable it, considering the car was at this point being looked upon as a weapon? The U.S. is not for US it’s for citizens who are socially, and economically at the top of the ranks! This young man’s life was taking because he didn’t fit into either one of those categories, so to the JUDGE he didn’t matter. What we must realize is no matter how much injustice we as a people who don’t fit the U.S. Social and Economical standards endure; the very folks who are judge and jury now, will be the same people in line with us common folk waiting on their verdict in the book of life. My heart goes out to his family and his friends and their family during this difficult time.

Yes, it is sad when killing a dog or non-payment of taxes fits more for punishment than the taking of a human-being’s life. Hell, even Paris Hilton served a longer sentence than these officers. It’s unfortunate how America’s society is. Just look at the fact there is still Katrina victims living in trailers while the tourists spots and superdome in New Orleans look as if no hurricane ever hit. Stop depending on God to turn a situation around. God has no matter in this! Each person on earth has free will. You have the will to do good…and the will to do bad. I prefer to do good…but when people don’t play by the rules…you must then take matters into your own hands.
Slaves prayed…but that didnt stop them from being enslaved for over 300 years. Action changes situations. Pray for vision and strength…but rely on your own action to turn things in yoru favor!
Black men are being eliminated from this earth. But no one can eliminate you unless you let them. No one makes us committ crimes…no one forces men to be gay…Gay men are a threat to the black race. Not because they are bad people…most are very good people! They deserve each and every right that all Americans deserve!
The problem with Gay men is that they do not re-produce. Since they arent in relationships with women…no children will be born from them. This simple act highly cuts down on the amount of young black babies being born. The amount of black men in jail highly cuts down on the amount of black babies being born! Wake up people! No one makes you do anything! You do it out of fear or mis-understanding.
No one fears you…that’s why police officers will continue to shoot and kill. Who would ever think to shoot a Jew? You won’t! Because you fear the heavy consequences that you would face!
Do for yourself. Stop telling your children to “get a job” and “go to school” and instead encourage them to own their own business and read multiple books! Stop pushing them in directions that keep them under the power of other people.
Do not acquire any debt! That debt keeps you a slave to your boss. You can never leave work or stand up for yourself at work because you have a mortgage, car loan, credit cards and even a 2nd home equity loan. Pay for everything in cash! If you don’t have the cash…that means you can’t afford it!
The rules of the game of life are laid out before you…but are you paying attention?

sean bell had a family, children to help raise, people who loved and cared about him. his life was taken and no one is being held responsible. its an outrage.
i believe we as americans need to take responsibility for our actions. we are always searching for the “excuse” that won’t hold us accountable. and then telling other people that their government or their way of life is not just. I KNOW FOR SOME OF US, THAT HAD DECENT PARENTS GROWING UP, THEY WARN YOU ABOUT THIS. YEAH THINGS HAPPEN BUT THESE GUYS WERE COCKY. SO…look up their backgrounds and tunes wil change with a quickness. No I am not a news reporter. I am a concerned parent that prays and play my position so that my child will not fall into these negative stereotypes. And I’m am just brave enough not to jump on the race wagon and see thing for what they are… NEXT

Also I would like to add, it is really ashamed because there are SO many crooked cops out there. People paying them off, confiscating drugs and guns and keeping some for themselves. Feeling up some women they may pull over , beatings that just get covered, harassing folks just because, power trippin’, gun-happy cops, the co’s in prison raping inmates, cutting side deals with inmates, and then there’s the cops getting off scotch free…..

A black life has never been worth anything in AmeriKKKa. We’re talking NY here so this shouldn’t surprise any of us…NY, Boston and Philly are three of the most racist cities I’ve ever seen. But after the Amadou Diallo incident, we should have seen this coming…so sad for the family…OMG…I hope they sue NYC into bankruptcy.

And they ask why I sing the songs I sing. A they wonder why I write the way I write. Hell no! I’m not shutting up! STAY STRONG SISTER! This case ain’t over yet, its just the first chapter. People continue to put these issues on blast and not all this other superficial junk that taken in everyday. We need to wake the hell up!

And the judge had the nerve to imply that “they may have brought it on themselves”…. clearly his mind was made up before the trial began.
It’s OK —- They all have another JUDGE to face, and he will not be biased, but their punishment will be just.

As a native New Yorker, I will say that I am not surprised at all. Yeah, it really hurts me to the core they these pigs got off, but I also understand that we are indeed living in the land of our OPPRESSOR. Its sad that many of you are still naive into thinking that any form of “justice” was going to be served today. I guess some of you thought that times has changed because of Obama.
The fact is that times hasn’t changed, shit is getting worse. Racism is alive and well in this country. As far as the “Justice System” is concerned, many of you will be SURPRISED by what goes on under the veil. Just ask any of your friends and family members that actually been incarcerated. And no, I ain’t talking about some punk ass 8 month sentences either, lets talk 10 years and up. Are any of you even aware that once you are released and are still on parole that you are required to pay monthly restitution fee to the state? Oh, and if you decide not to pay, guess where your black ass is going back to? Extortion at it’s finest!
I’m sorry to say this, but there were many before Sean Bell and sadly, there will be many after that will suffer the same travesty. That is why we as a people need to put all the negative shit aside and stand together, because nobody else don’t give a shit about us.
Reminder:
Amadou Bailo Diallo
Patrick Moses Dorismond
Abner Louima
Timothy Stansbury, Jr.
Ramona Moore
Sean Bell…and counting

I live in NY and the atmosphere out here is crazy…ppl are grieving left and right like it was just yesterday…I tried to take my mind off of it but now that I came back on the site; I know realize you cannot run away from something like this and can only deal with it…
The verdict was ridiculous…how can you not even find them guilty of negligence is my question….It’s as if the “black life” is meaningless out here and IT”S SAD!!!!!!!
Police really should watch how they treat others b/c one day it can be their own, once again sad, but true.
My prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Bell
AND TO ALL MY FELLOW NY’ERS OR PPL AFFECTED BY THIS KEEP YA HEAD B/C THEY’RE WAITING FOR A REASON TO ARREST AND KILL US!!!! IT’S TIME WE START TAKING A PAGE OUT OF DR. KING’S BOOK AND STAND TOGETHER NON-VIOLENT!!!

We black people need to stop all of this black on black crime and scaring the po-po into thinking they should shoot us instead of us shooting them first. We are doing this to ourselves. THUG LIFE EQUALS NO LIFE!!!!!!
