NEWS: JEREMIAH WRIGHT SPEAKS

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

On Sunday, Sen. Barack Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, told an audience of 10,000 at the 53rd annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner that despite what critics say, he is descriptive, not divisive, when he speaks about racial injustices.

“I describe the conditions in this country,” Wright said during the event held by the Detroit chapter of the NAACP.

Last month, during a media firestorm, Obama condemned Wright’s remarks, and on Sunday, Wright was introduced as the “hottest brother in America right now.”

“I’m not here for political reasons,” Wright said. “I’m not a politician. I know that fact will surprise many of you because many in the corporate-owned media made it seem like I am running for the Oval Office. I am not running for the Oval Office. I’ve been running for Jesus a long, long time, and I’m not tired yet.”

On Friday, Wright appeared on Bill Moyers Journal, his first broadcast interview since his controversial remarks surfaced in the press. Check out his interview and transcript. His NAACP speech is also available on YouTube.

Wright made an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington on Monday and said he will try to change national policy by “coming after” Obama if he is elected president: “I said to Barack Obama last year, ‘If you get elected, November the 5th I’m coming after you, because you’ll be representing a government whose policies grind under people.”

Wright, who was Obama’s pastor for 20 years and performed his wedding, also clarified their relationship: “I’m a pastor; he’s a member. I’m not a ’spiritual mentor.’”

During the most recent Democratic debate, Obama referred to Wright as “somebody who is associated with me that I have disowned,” but Wright objected to a question saying Obama had denounced him.

“Whoever wrote that question doesn’t read or watch the news,” Wright said. “He did not denounce me. He distanced himself from some of my remarks, like most of you, never having heard the sermon, all right? … He didn’t distance himself. He had to distance himself, because he’s a politician, from what the media was saying I had said, which was [portrayed as] anti-American. … He did, as I said, what politicians do.”

Hillary and her people put Jeremiah Wright up to sabotage Barack Obama. Wright is working with Hillary Clinton.

DO NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
HILLARY IS A LIAR AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

Please tell me how and why is Rev Wright hurting Obama. If you are saying white people will not vote for him, that doesn’t make sense. As long as Black people have been allowed to vote we have had Presidents who did not have Black peoples’ interest in mind but they became President. If Obama becomes President it may be the worst experience in his life. They are going to pick him apart about everything he does. If Katrina happens or any other racist happenings (Sean Bell Case) Obama will have to watch his words and behavior. Black will be in a bad position because Obama can’t and will not say anything.

Rev. Wrong needs to sit his ego driven behind down. His appearance was arranged by a woman who describes herself as a person who supported Hillary Clinton in the MD primary as payback to Slick Willy a.k.a. Barbara Reynolds, who just happens to be a guest columnist for the Final Call. Conspiracy written all over that. The associations tell me everything I need to know. If Wright felt a pressing need to speak, he’s smart enough to have held an intelligent conversation. Instead, he chose to go off as a buffoon talking about how black people’s brains are different, and mocking an American icon, JFK. Everything he had to say could have been held until Nov. 6th if it was really that important. Wright is hating on Obama along with most of old black guard who are hanging on Slick Willy’s joint like the crabs.

Oh lord, here we go. People blaming Hillary for all of Barack’s problems is becoming redundant. She has or had nothing to do with Rev. Wright and his media rampage. But I am sure she is glad it is happening cause its doing nothing but helping her campaign. Painting her as this “blue eyed devil” that alot of our people have been doing is sickening, especially since these were the same people who were supporters of everything Clinton since the early 90’s up until last year. PLEASE!!!!

Barack is a politician, despite him saying he is above politics and the crookedness thats involved with it. PLEASE!!!!! No one can be in politics as long as Barack and not take on the same mentality as his fellow politicians. Just like no can sit in a church for damn near 2 decades and not have the same believes or some of the same believes as their pastor.

Barack is just as conniving and selfish as Hillary and McCain. They just choose to be more blatent about it than Obama.

I refuse to be one of those blacks who jump on the Obama bandwagon because they are afraid of being called a “house slave” or “sell out” if they dont. Politicians are all the same, even if does have the same skin color.

And if Obama were to win the democratic nomination, I would gladly vote for him in November, but all I am saying is dont insult my intelligence by saying your not “one of those politicians.” I refuse to believe your any different.

The media consistently attacks Rev. Wright. The media has been behind the subliminal racists message since Obama ran and waaayyyy before Obama. Black people should wake up from the slave master mentality that cripples us with fear. Friendship West celebrated their 25th anniversary with Rev. Dr. Haynes as the pastor, whom is also one of the finals as the head of NAACP. The festivities of Friendship West would have occurred whether Senator Obama ran or not. It has come to pass. I am a faithful Obama supporter and would appreciate it if everyone attacked the media instead. Please don’t forget about Haggan and Parsley whom are big McCain endorsers.

The sad part of this was I think he thought he was helping Obama. I don’t think he was literallty trying to hurt this man. But the reality of it is he may have just caused us our first black president. It is sad and it shouldn’t be but it is. So we will have another Republican again. Because it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for Hilary Clinton racist ass.

Simply put…why NOW?!? Is Wright that vain that he couldn’t wait to speak until
after Obama was elected? No matter what, he couldn’t call Barack a friend…to do this to him. It’s just sad…to think that Barack was in the lead this whole time…and yes we know it’s a part of politics to dig up dirt on the candidate, but for your Pastor or whatever you call him to do that to B.O….that’s like him digging his grave and throwing the dirt on him while he’s still alive. He must not believe in Barack, because I would assume he would be doing everything possible with his loud mouth to get Barack into office but I see the exact opposite. To think we may lose this thing because of one black man and his EGO. (shaking head)

The Clintons could have paided Rev Wright, you know with 109 million that could sway a lot of people.

Why has’nt it been mentioned that the Clintons invited Rev Wright to the White House on different occasions. Rev. Wright is in bed with the Clintons. Eeww, that’s a nasty thought! lol , but on the real, Clinton’s people did arrange for Rev Wright to participate in this past weekend’s forum. Wright knew the damage he would do to Obama’s campaign, he is either a Judas or the Clintons compensated him very well. He is a Judas in any event.

When are we going to learn that there is no massa anymore? We are the only ones holding ourselves back. The Jews, the Italians, the Hispanics, the chinese, the white women…they’ve ALL been through hard times in this country and they still THRIVE no matter what. They stress education and they all support each other on the national front. We act like a bunch of dumbasses. We are the ones destroying Obama’s campaign by not being unified. This is our chance and we have screwed it up, by allowing Rev. Al and Rev. Jeremiah to be our voices. They are NOT SERVING our needs. This is a disgrace. I wish I knew what to do because I am so angry right now, especially after reading this…

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 29) - Democrat Barack Obama said Tuesday he was outraged and appalled by the latest comments from his former pastor, who asserted that criticism of his fiery sermons is an attack on the black church and the U.S. government was responsible for the creation of the AIDS virus.

The presidential candidate is seeking to tamp down the growing fury over Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his incendiary remarks that threaten to undermine his campaign.

“I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday,” Obama told reporters at a news conference.

After weeks of staying out of the public eye while critics lambasted his sermons, Wright made three public appearances in four days to defend himself. The former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago has been combative, providing colorful commentary and feeding the story Obama had hoped was dying down.

“This is not an attack on Jeremiah Wright,” Wright told the Washington media Monday. “It has nothing to do with Senator Obama. It is an attack on the black church launched by people who know nothing about the African-American religious tradition.”

Obama told reporters Tuesday that Wright’s comments do not accurately portray the perspective of the black church.

“The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago,” Obama said of the man who married him.

Unreal, I am not trying to offend anyone. I was just analyzing what I am seeing. And some people are exactly right sometimes you do have to compromise who you are to get ahead but that is just not my style. And the reason I am so against it is because I have seen how hard it is to change who you are just to satisfy the majority.

Like for example my sister who wore natural hair felt the pressure to get a perm while working at a high scale mostly white law office because of the stares and comments she would receive from her coworkers. And even her boss asking her a couple of times if she could tone her look down by quitting the natural phase which deeply offended and saddened her.

But like someone said politics is different so maybe I am thinking totally left of the playing field and do not have the mentally of politicians and their voters who desire for them to win so much. Because personally the campaigns, the secret societies who our so called great leaders were and still are a part of, I mean I just personally feel like I see through it all. But we all have a right to our opinion so I respect everyone’s.

Something to THINKABOUT…

Is Jeremiah Wright a colossal disaster for Barack Obama or a press trick?

Tuesday, April 29th 2008, 4:00 AM

The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club event Monday, which was organized by Reynolds.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright couldn’t have done more damage to Barack Obama’s campaign if he had tried. And you have to wonder if that’s just what one friend of Wright wanted.
Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.

A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).

It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club ‘who organized’ the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter.

On a blog linked to her Web site- http://www.reynoldsnews.com- Reynolds said in a February post: ‘My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you’ to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

The same post criticized Obama’s ‘Audacity of Hope’ theme: ‘Hope by definition is not based on facts,’ wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time.’

In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: ‘It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement.’

I don’t know if Reynolds’ eagerness to help Wright stage a disastrous news conference with the national media was a way of trying to help Clinton - my queries to Reynolds by phone and e-mail weren’t returned yesterday - but it’s safe to say she didn’t see any conflict between promoting Wright and supporting Clinton.

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad the actual news conference was. Wright, steeped in an honorable, fiery tradition of Bible-based social criticism, cheapened his arguments and his movement by mugging for the cameras, rolling his eyes, heaping scorn on his critics and acting as if nobody in the room was learned enough to ask him a question.

Wright has, unquestionably, been caricatured and vilified unfairly. The feeding programs, prison outreach and other social services he has built over more than 30 years are commendable, and his reading of the Judeo-Christian tradition as an epic story of people trying to escape slavery is far more right than wrong - and not something to be caricatured or compressed into a 10-second sound bite.

But Wright should have known - and his friend and ally Reynolds, a media professional, surely knew - that bickering with the press can only harm Wright and, by extension, Obama.
I hope that wasn’t their goal.

Although I am a Black Christian and I used to support Clinton, until I heard about their dealings with Daddy Bush and Caryle Group etc. I support Obama because he is the better candidate between the Clinton’s (AGAIN) or McCain (Little Bush) and I believe that Rev Wright should defend himself at some point , one cannot wonder about the timing? Rev Wright had several weeks before Clinton’s victory in PA since Feb-March, and he could had waited after November 5th to speak out about racial injustices that still exist in this country today. But you have to look at the context of how this travesty has rocked Obama, in the most personal way. I am sure he is hurt, but, beyond feelings…let’s look at why I feel this is true.

“Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.

A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).

It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club “who organized” the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter”

RESEARCHED SOURCE:(talkingpointsmemo.com) and http://latimesblogs.latim.../2008/04/wrightsetup.html and http://www.nydailynews.co...pinions/columnists/louis/.

Rev Wright crossed the line when he said that if Obama get’s in office, that he’s “coming after him”, and to add further insult to injury, here is the following excerpt taken from the LATIMES on Barbara Reynolds:

In a February blog entry of Reynolds saying, “My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you” to Clinton and her husband for his administration’s successes.

In another entry, Reynolds notes critically of Obama, “It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement.”

WHY WOULD REV WRIGHT ALIGN HIMSELF WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL? Although Rev Wright is a man of God, he is going to have some serious explaining to do! He could had come on the defensive end, weeks right after the media clips started surfacing Feb/March, he could had even waited until November. But yet he states he releasing a book soon, and now news is surfacing that Rev Wright owes more than $48,000 in back property taxes?

This man has lost all credibility with me. If Rev Wright was a real person concerned about the “attack on the Black Church” and on his views about racism in America, he could had arranged a press conference with other Black ministers, Rabbi’s, Muslim Clerics, etc…and other diverse religions to show the “differences, and not indifferences”, he could had done this in a mores suitable time, but one must ask why now when Clinton is leading in the national polls, knowing that he lost PA and the white voting stream he was winning?

I don’t care what anyone says, I am truly ashamed of Rev Wright, and this has gone far beyond supporting Obama, because he is Black, it has everything to do with through all of this, Obama has taken the high road in first protecting Rev Wright and stating right when this mess started that dis-owing Rev Wright, would be like turning his back on Black people, and this is the loyalty and thanks that Rev Wright gives to him!

SHAME!!!!! SHAME ON REV WRIGHT! AND THIS IS NOTHING SHORT OF THE CLINTONS PEOPLE! They know they cannot win, they are willing to hand Obama to the Republicans . bloodied to death on a silver platter, knowing that they want John McCain to win, because he would be a one term President (if he wins now because of this MESS!!) and Hillary will run again in 2012, at the expense of cutting down the finest American President hopeful since JFK….and the fact that he is BLACK! I AM SO DONE WITH THE CLINTONS!

I am going to log on to find out if Obama has any 5273c’s campaign organizations to donate to stop the Clintons and McCain once and for all!!!

VOTE OBAMA!!!! REV WRIGHT has lost a lot of credibility with me and other Blacks, and the media….. IS WRONG! NO MATTER HOW YOU SLICE THIS!!!

I’m just really confused, he could have waited to do this AFTER the campaign. History will show that if Obama loses, this was the moment that did it, and Wright will be to blame. Wright wasn’t saying anything out of order to me, but I know ALOT of WHITE people that just don’t get it. You are a vehement proponent of blacks depending on whites to calibrate their thoughts, feelings, humanity, and ability to exercise their liberty on the collective opinion of whites, and you have the nerve to call someone a moron. You dumb ass slave. Let me break it down for you: White people hate black people for being black. No more, no less. If anyone should loathe another on the basis of conduct, then the whole world would be justified to hate white people.

LMAO @ “..Rubs shoulders with YT til he/she gets to a position of power…” Listen, this may come as a shock to you but I have managed to absolve the collective perception of whites from my reality. As a matter fact, I put myself through an elite college where I grossly outperformed the white majority, and I currently run my own business and chart my own destiny. It may be difficult for you to conceive but I, like many actualized blacks with knowledge of self will never have to depend on a white person. Here is hoping that your lonely brain cell finds its twin and figures than one out.

You’re a simple-minded plantation monkey who doesn’t realize that in the long term, race bears no consequence in a capitalist structure. Incompetence has no place in this society, and slaves like you are necessary bottom feeders to the social hierarchy. You think whites did not hate Asians who came here and surpassed them? You think whites do not hate Jews who came here and overtook them? Yet you sit on your fat ass and kiss whites’ asses for 400 years like a shiftless pig and wonder why the entire planet thinks you’re dense. I won’t waste my time enlightening a shameless cow. I can hardly wait for the day globalization will extradite will your worthless, mooching gene pool.

particularly in regards to the Presidency of the USA…hes not running for president of Black America, how the hell will he win by only addressing the concerns of one group of people

I neither support nor denounce reverend wright because quite frankly, I have no ties to the man, but I do know this—as a Christian we are all brothers and sister in Christ. Now, would you tell your children you do this and your sibling does that because you look different?? No, because any rational being would see how asinine that is. As human beings, our genetic make up is 99.9% the same. Christianity is inclusive, not exclusive, and people are so quick to forget that. Any religious “leader” who separates their flock by race does not know the teachings of Christ at all.

you can get your point across without calling another person a “dumb a$$ slave” or “bottom feeder” and “simple minded plantation monkey”
It’s good that you have made it in terms of material success, but those statements alone do not present you as the “actualized black” you profess to be. Carrying around the belief that our race is hated by whites and making comments like those for the sole purpose of putting down another human being makes you no better than the racists. And if your statement were true, I wouldn’t exist because my white mother and black father would have never married, or did my dad fall under the category of “plantation monkey”??

Placing yourself on a pedestal made of SAT words and scathing, yet unfounded remarks does not put you above another black American if you truly are buying into what you just preached

What the Rev is saying is correct but he is doing it at the wrong time. I do not believe he is racist, he is just addressing issues in America. It seems that anytime a black person does anything in America another black person wants to find a way to bring them down. The black people in this country need to learn when to shut up. This is the only time in history we may have a black president. Rev Wright could say this stuff later after Obama is elected. I think he was paid a lump sum to finally speak. I am a christian, and I feel it is a disgrace to see a leader of a church not humble himself. People on television that said they know Rev Wright have told him to stop with the interviews but he refuses. He is selfish and once again gives people that are not saved another reason to think christians are all fake. Humble yourself. Your a pastor you know better.

111.

Several of you have stated my sentiments on this issue. Reverend Wright should not change his message because Obama is running for President. That would be wrong on so many levels if he did. Rev, Wright knows who he serves and it is not Obama. He should not have been thrust into the limelight because snippets from his sermons are being used to define Obama.

I do understand the desire to make sure Obama gets in the Whitehouse no matter what. But the way I look at it, some controversy and his weathering of it before the general election is a good thing for Obama. Please understand, this is a proving ground for what is to come. If he is the nominee, the Republicans will attack him on policy, his personal relationships and any missteps he or his wife have made or will make on the campaign trail. It is really a part of the norm. It happens in every single election with pretty much every candidate.

In a way, the worst thing that can happen to him is if he is shielded from all the negativity. It is the kiss of death because not vetting him now allows dissenters later to use the “special treatment” moniker. You know, just another token Black who is not as qualified and is being treated special just because he is Black. It is best that any skeletons come out now. To have them is very real. Get them out now and hopefully some of the interest in the controversial topics will die down, despite the Republicans intent to use them later. Peace.
