NEWS ROUND UP: BOB JOHNSON AT IT AGAIN / TAVIS SMILEY UPDATE
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Bob Johnson, founder and former CEO of BET, echoed former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro’s sentiments that Sen. Barack Obama would not be the leading Democratic candidate if he were white.
Johnson told the Charlotte Observer:
“What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called ‘Jerry Smith’ and he says I’m going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote? The answer is, probably not…
Geraldine Ferraro said it right. The problem is, Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair-trigger on anything racial…it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything.”
Johnson, a Clinton supporter, in January, slammed Obama and mentioned “what he was doing in the neighborhood” which appeared to take aim at the Illinois senator for his admitted drug use. Johnson later apologized and stated he’d been referring to Obama’s time spent as a community organizer.
On Monday, Johnson alluded to the incident:
“I made a joke about Obama doing drugs (and it’s) ‘Oh my God, a black man tearing down another black man’. He added, “I don’t think he has that common — what I call ‘I-want-to-go-out-and-have-a-drink-with-you — touch’.”
Obama’s camp dismissed Johnson’s comments:
“This is just one in a long line of absurd comments by Bob Johnson and other Clinton supporters who will say or do anything to get the nomination,” said spokesman Dan Leistikow. “The American people are tired of this and are ready to turn the page on these kind of attack politics.”
TAVIS SMILEY UPDATE

Radio and television personality Tavis Smiley speaks to guests during the Dr. Cornel West “Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations” event last year.
( Photo: Wireimage )
Earlier this week we mentioned Tavis Smiley would be leaving the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Smiley addressed a few issues in his commentary on Tuesday morning.
“There is no way to put into words the love and respect that I have for Tom Joyner or the love affair that I’ve had with Tom Joyner Morning Show listeners for almost 12 years now.
Tom’s announcement last Friday about my decision to leave this morning show at the end of June came, I suspect, as a surprise to you and, honestly, as a shock to me.
I had no idea that my dear friend, Tom Joyner, was going to share with you Friday morning what we had just discussed barely 12 hours earlier Thursday evening. But I have accepted Tom’s apology and that is for me, now, old business.
Words cannot convey my abiding appreciation, my deep gratitude for the man who allowed me to express myself: before BET, before NPR, before PBS, before PRI (Public Radio International), before my New York Times best selling books, before my own imprint SmileyBooks, before my High Quality Speakers Bureau, before … well, I think you get my point.
Sometimes I joke that my life is really divided into two periods, ‘BT’ and ‘AT’, ‘Before Tom’ and ‘After Tom’.
Smiley mentioned numerous projects on Tuesday as his need to “clean some stuff off [his] plate”: three documentaries; America I Am: The African American Imprint on America, “the biggest, baddest, boldest, Black exhibit ever created”; and SmileyBooks, in addition to other endeavors.

Blah Blah Blah - If Hillary was Jerry Smith from NY nobody would care either so what is your point….
He is Black….
She is a Former 1st Lady….
Is he suppose to aplogize for any lead he may have simply because he is black… NO… Is she going to apologize for the states she is leading in simply because she is a women…. NO….
He is the better candadate and the better person in general… I have worked at the White House while the Clinton’s were in office…. Love Bill and I have never liked Hillary… She is mean, rude, judgmental and ruthless. Never was a big deal to me though until now… She is just not better then Barrak… Sorry…
Bob Johnson sounds like a fool… Right along with Gereldine Farraro.

So now I’m reading the comments and I read people saying Obama is damn near perfect and how Hillary is only doing as well as she is because her husband is the Ex-President and also that Bob Johnson/Ferraro says Obama is only where he’s at now because he’s black.
First about Obama being damn near perfect?? Wow do you really know the man?? Have some of you even heard of him 2 or 3 years ago?? Please!! He’s a human and therefore far from perfect, I think he’d tell you that too.
Secondly, can you really say Hillary is really here because of Bill Clinton? How many other Presidents wives do you know that have run for president? She is an educated woman and had done time in the whitehouse and the senate, so yes we know her because she’s Bill Clinton’s wife but is that her fault? Are you guys saying she shouldn’t run because she was fortunate to be in that position??
Lastly, think about what the comment means that Obama is only where he is because he’s a black…well um yes he is, if he were anything or anyone else he would not be who he is or had the experience he’s had etc. So why are people taking the comment negatively. It’s like saying Michael Jordan is where he is because he can play basketball.

ThOkay and the same thing can be said about hillary if you took a senator who was a woman and just popped up and said imma run do you think she would have as many supporters? Does she think that if she didn’t have Bill she would have all these votes?
We have come along way, and i doubt that he is getting a break because he is a black man, because if that were the case we wouldn’t have so many of our black men arrested for bogus charges, or be turned away for credit, or not able to climb corp ladders. I dont think its because he is black its because Hillary not talking about nothing when it comes to being president. Obama is not just about the black man, he made sure it was known that he is about all men, and helping this nation and picking up the pieces that the Republican Party is going to leave behind. I know plenty of black people who aren’t voting for him because he is black. I wish they would sit down, because its going to be so much division that when its time to have people vote for the real race, they might not vote at all because thier person isn’t the one who was choosen during primaries.

I have no problem with people supporting who ever they choose (even if it’s not someone I support) I have a issue with people saying “Obama is where he is because he is Black” that argument is crazy. The only advantage a Black man has in this country is playing a sport period. I would also have a lot more respect for Bob Johnson (ok I’m lying I hate what BET has become lol) if he could support his friend with out trying to bring someone else down rather they be Black or White. If you can’t support/promote your presidential
candidate, someone who you have known for years without tearing someone else down that says a lot about you and the person you support. I would hate to be running for office and every time my supporters get tv/air time they talking about my rival.

It’s not till Obama won Iowa, which is by far a majority white state, with few blacks, then most black people started supporting Obama. Bob johnson should be ashamed of himself for making those comments. He do not represent me, nor, me as a black blue collar worker man living in NYC. Bob Johnson should of said ” Hillary lost the black vote because the remarks made by Bill Clinton in South Carolina about jesse jackson winning when he ran for president”.
I feel the only reason Hillary is staying in the race is because, if she lost she will probably hope to God Barack don’t win. She needs to get the hell out and let Obama get ready for the general election. CNN and all major networks already said it will be impossible for hillary to win the nomination. so u may ask yourself why is she staying in, it’s because hillary are counting on those super delegates to back her when it’s time for the convention.
Damn those super delegates if Hillary wins because the only way she could win is by getting the super delegates to back her. But, we all know why these super delegates are backing Hillary, it’s because my husband “Bill Clinton” did something for u now it’s time to return the favor. Last time I checked it’s Hillary running for president not Bill Clinton. Hillary needs to drop out plan and simple, she is only hurting Obama chances of winning in November.
Last but not least, Barack Obama may be new in this campaign but he brings a different style to the table, and sure, some of them (Politicians) lie to a certain extent to get in the white house, but, I believe Hillary Clinton got way more lies and phony stories than Obama or Mccain. I used to be a Hillary supporter but I notice like many others did. Hillary will do anything to win, even put down her own Democratic rival Barack Obama. Stop supporting a lost cause, Hillary will not win the primaries. it’s time for all Democrats to back Obama so we can win the General Election against John Mccain in November!!!!

Since when has being a black man in America been an advantage to anything lol These shuffling for Massa negroes kill me. Robert Johnson is just playing his position, but I really wish he would just STFU.
I think Obama’s grassroots organizing skills are why he’s where he is. He was organizing on the South Side for years before he ran for the senate seat. He has the gift of gab and a sincerity and honesty that connects to people who are sick and tired of being displaced and ignored. People need to look at this Man’s history and know what he’s done before offering up ideas about why he is where he is.

Sure Barack is mixed, but at the end of the day he looks like nothing more than a liughskin black man with an OBVIOUSLY black family. Yes, he represents the mix race that nealy ALL African Americans have. I am tired of people with two different race parents acting as if they are some special group when nealy everyone on the planet is mixed. Therefore Obama represents ALL of us not your exclusive club that you really desire to create. You ain’t slick.

Well I disagree with Bob Johnson. I actually think if Obama was White, he would have long been the nominee for the democratic party. The way in which he has to earn the votes of whites is crazy. He has to be damn near perfect with no blemishes for whites to take notice of him. Once they see him as the real candidate to beat, they start to sway in his corner. That is the truth as to why Hillary is losing this race. Her credibility vs. his credibility is a no brainer. HE WINS HANDS DOWN. People want change. Hillary wants to lie to you to get in the White House. I truly hope Obama does well next week, and put this nominee question to rest for good!!!

#70 you summed it up perfectly.
I’m tired of people telling us why we are voting for Obama,.
Your own black people insisting that it’s only because hes black we support him, that would mean that all other black presidential candidates would have the overwhelming black vote.
I’m pretty tired of people discrediting this man’s accomplishment in appealing to voters in more than a political party type way, in a movement type way. Look at how Obama responds to conflict, did you see his speech on Race.? I beg you show me one candidate even remotely capable as he is and I will vote for him 12times over….
Mr. Johnson if Obama were white he would already be the Democratic nominee and would be well on his way to being President, with a landslide victory. I personally don’t care what you or anyone else thinks, vote for who you want for the reasons you want but don’t tell us why we are voting for him. Infact, Fuck off!

I also wonder what favors Bob Johnson is promised should Hillary win the nomination. Something doesn’t seem right with the timing of his hateful outburst towards Obama.
Politicians think blacks are dumb, and can not differentiate between a good candidate and the color of ones skin.
Well let me tell you, when Obama first started talking about running for President, I was not behind him. My choice was HILLARY CLINTON. But, as the race went on, and I started to hear the debates and what each candidate stood for, I was more in line with Obama than Hillary. So, it offends me when pro-Hillary people state that blacks are only voting for Obama because of his skin tone. To be honest, she was the one with the upper hand, because I was clearly going to vote for her because of Bill… She lost my vote. Why can’t it just be because we are feeling that Obama is the better candidate??? This is a case of her camp being bitter as usual… My hope is that they start to stick to the facts and stop all this BS…

Too me this man has lost all credibility and furthermore how can he dislike this man who is not only trying to uplift his black people but all people with a message of hope and change??? Bob Johnson had the only black network on TV and for a long time it was the only place you could see black faces and he gave us (booty shaking black women, thugs and killers in the “hood”, Tip Drill, Hott Ghetto Mess etc.) Please Bob Johnson save your Uncle Tomishness for the plantation. *****RE: @ J. Dakar******
It couldn’t have been expressed better in any other way. While I respect Bob Johnson’s business savvy, while I respect his ability to establish a network and gather the support needed to successfully run what has now become an empire, I LOATHE (as you do Mr. Dakar) everything BET stands for. In fact, my words have been backed by actions for approximately four years now, as I can honestly tell you that the last time I watched BET was in 2004 when I was 23 years of age. That is especially telling because I work for a major communications organization as an Industrial Engineer. My work requires that I receive all cable channels/networks free, as apart of my benefits/perks package and moreover, as a necessary part of my job (in the event that I need to work from home). I say this, to establish that I have had constant access to BET all my adult life, but since my early twenties I have made the decision to forgo watching even the events I enjoyed such as the BET Awards — precisely for the reasons you cited in your commentary.
Now, I hear from friends that there are shows such as College Hill, which apparently offer no insight into college life other than hooking up. POISON! I read on this very site (Concreteloop) about a show depicting and glorifying “ghetto-fabulous” behavior; POISON! I hear that the past few BET Awards have been OK, but have done little to further the Black cause; UNFORTUNATE!
I will say this: BET did not start off this way, I am 27 years old and I can remember a time when BET was an amazing outlet for people in my generation. I was a “Teen Summit” kid who watched my peers converse about topics that were important to me. I think Brandy reminisced it best on her Aphrodisiac album when he said “Gimme Donnie Simpson on Video Soul where I got my first attention…give me 92′ and let me put my name on it so you don’t confuse it.”
The song is entitled “Turn It Up” and that’s the BET I remember; the one I grew up on, where you had shows like Video Soul, shows like BET Jazz which connected a young kid like myself (who’s birth almost innately nudged me somewhere in-between post Motown R&B and Gangsta Rap) to Jazz music which at twenty-seven I have a real appreciation for; thanks BET.
And so, thats the BET I’ll always mourn. From what I hear, modern BET is executing the white supremest agenda far better than they could’ve ever hoped to do it, which is a disgrace. Irrespective of his personal business accomplishments, Bob Johnson should be the African-American iconic figure of how the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I view Bob Johnson and BET the way I view my late father. A man who throughout my formative years was my real-life equivalent to Mr. Huckstable himself. A man who then suddenly during my mid-adolescence turned to drugs, alcohol and womanizing. Clearly the example he set for me through his words and deeds eventually left him with a NET NEGATIVE because he wasn’t consistent in his vision for himself or his family.
I’d much rather mourn a father I never knew, than a man I thought I knew who suddenly turned so selfish, cold and unrecognizable.

There’s no doubt that if Obama were white, he wouldn’t still be “competing” for the democratic nomination.
” I am tired of people with two different race parents acting as if they are some special group when nealy everyone on the planet is mixed. Therefore Obama represents ALL of us not your exclusive club that you really desire to create. You ain’t slick.”
We need a new thread for this one…………..it absolutely makes me sick that so many biracial folks talk about it as if being biracial somehow makes them more “special” than the millions of Blacks living in America that are quite throughly mixed. I’m a BlaNatiCasion, so maybe I should start a new movement, lol!!!!

Some of you Obama supporters will not admit it but Bob Johnson is telling the truth. It’s more about color for some than anything. As much as people say they don’t trust Hillary, I don’t trust Obama. New article today in USAToday shows how he is flat out lying about not taking money from lobbyist. I know all of you have heard him say it cause that is one of his main talking points “I DON’T TAKE MONEY FROM LOBBYIST, I AM NOT A WASHINGTON INSIDER” Bull!!! He has over 38 lobbyist giving him money for his campaign. How can you flat out lie on one of you main talking points??? My point is how he is always saying Hillary is just another typical politician when he is the exact same as her “a typical politician.” So to all the Obama supporter, everyone has the right to vote for whoever he or she please on whatever merits. Don’t be surprised though is Obama is the nominee and you will be watching the inauguration of John McCain in January 2009.

There was nothing condescending about Obama’s comment about being bitter. People are bitter. What’s the dispute. Secondly, this lame issue about if Obama were white, the black community would not vote for him. First off, how do you know that? Secondly, if black voted “black only” Jesse, Al, and Alan Keyes would be in office. Also, Obama isn’t white so it’s a mute point.
Also, if his issues aren’t clearly stated, then why are white folks voting for him. Next.

Just a thought, if McCain was black, do we really think he would be the leading Republican Candidate?? Just a question!! And why in the world do people all of a sudden want to try and make it seem like being “black” is an advantage to getting in the White House. Are we being serious people?? I mean after all it is called the “White House” and nothing but white men have carried the title of President. And do we know why ladies and gents…Is it because no man of color has been qualified throughout the entire history of the USA?? No, its because in the previous elections if your skin color was not White you were automatically incapable of leading this country (people may have not said it out loud but being black was a disqualification from jump street)…So yes maybe Obama is getting some votes from more black people but so what?? How many will he not get because he is black?!?! And as far as I’m concerned every other president has been elected partly because he was White. Had JFK been a black man, with the same ideas he would not have been elected. So finally black people are paying some attention to politics and maybe it took seeing a “capable” black man running for president to help us along. But damn it, we are paying attention now and please don’t disregard us as “only” voting for him because he is black. His blackness may have caught our attention but it is his ideas that inspire us and make us believe that he can help create a better USA for us all not just the rich white or middle class but all classes and races….
On to another thought, I still can not fathom why some many blacks don’t want to see other blacks succeed. Bob is a successful black man who has so many things he “could” offer the black community yet he does not. So many of us achieve success then no longer want to identify with the black community. I think this is partly due to society created ideas of what success really is. Most successful black people will not feel as successful if they are not embraced by the white community. In contrast, white successful people are mainly successful within their own community. So successful blacks like Bob want to distance themselves from the black community like he is better than the average black man. Unfortunately, this does no good for the black community or Bob because in the larger society he is still a black man. So yeah, maybe he will get the invite to the “Rich White Only” parties but the people around him will always regard him as an outsider who has been granted permission to be in their company….
Ok back to the original point I was trying to make…(sorry for the tirade) Whites will always support whites, that’s not to say they won’t support other races but they do stick together. AS THEY SHOULD!!! So many blacks feel the need to tear down other blacks to make themselves feel good…An analogy I thought of for this presidential race is this… Eminem has been embraced by the Rap Community aka Black Community as one of the illest emcees ever. Now some in the rap community think this is partly due to him being white aside from his great lyricism. And I agree, if Eminem was black he would probably not be regarded in as high esteem but regardless this does not diminish the fact that he is a great Emcee. Eminem being white only adds to his ability to be able to penetrate a predominantly black genre of music… And you know what?!?! Whites embrace him for this, for being able to represent them where they have not been able to be represented before…So to me, Obama is my Eminem of the politics game and he has my support regardless of what the haters may say…
With all that said I bid you adieu

@ 99 Dyvinesun,
To late Tavis has already been biased in his commentaries that’s why people have had issues with him and he’s now suddenly decided to leave TJMS. Again, nobody has a problem with people supporting whoever they want, the problem is when people think supporting your candidate means tearing down another candidate.
For instance, why doesn’t Bob Johnson talk about how strong a candidate Hillary Clinton is by talking about her political experience as well as the issues that her campaign are about. I bet if you were to ask him, what’s Hillary’s plan for Health Care or the Economy he couldn’t even tell you, but he knows that Obama is only where’s he at b/c he’s black.
Judah, I keep hearing you talk about conspiracy theories, and how none of these candidates matter b/c they’re all pawns in this masterpiece theater to bring down the black race, well if that’s how you feel why don’t you kill yourself?!!! You can always tell someone that just read Malcolm X or took an African American Literature course b/c they’re all become pseudo revolutionaries, you’ll get over it in about 3 months.

When is the last time a white candidate has failed to pull at least 85% of the Black vote in the general election?
Gore had 91% in 2000 and Kerry had around 87% in 2004. The problem isn’t Blacks voting for Blacks. The problem are Blacks voting religiously for Democrats without getting anything in return for their loyalty.
Which is why I’m Independent and not just in name only….

I think we need to be careful not to compare Tavis and Bob Johnson. Tavis has been a positive fixture in our community for quite sometime and he has been unwavering in his mission to uplift our community. Bob Johnson on the other hand has strayed from that path.
Hill and Bill are friends of his so I have no problem with him supporting his friends, but I do have a problem with these outlandish and shameful comments that he’s made time and time again with only one intent, to belittle Barack Obama.
Tavis hasn’t been clear on who he is going to vote for, he has criticized Barack but has not gone so far as to say that he will not be supporting him. So lets not jump to those conclusion just because he has been a critic.
And finally, lets honor Tavis for 12 years of service to the Tom Joyner Morning Show instead of saying “f” Tavis as some are doing. He has done nothing to any of us to deserve some of the harsh words people seem to have for him.

I kinda of understand where Bob is coming from. Despite the fact that he is multiracial, it seems that in America if you have the smallest bit of African American ancestry in you then you are BLACK. It’s sad, but it has proven to unfortunately be true.
But with that said, I have yet to meet an African American supporter of Obama who didn’t say that they were voting for him because he was “black”. I mean if you just read the majority of the comments above, you get a good example. People saying that Bob needs to have his “black card” taken away or that he’s “kissing up to the white man…” that all is so ignorant. As an African American man, I am tired of so many fellow African-Americans as well as other races expecting all black people to be Obama supporters. This is the United States of America, we are not obligated to support a certain candidate. Support the candidate who you think is best fitted for the job, and don’t hate on the ones who disagree with you.
Just like Oprah said, women should not feel obligated to vote for Hillary because she is a woman. The same is true for Obama, just because you are African American doesn’t not mean you should be obligated to support Obama.
In my opinion, I don’t think Obama would have made it this far if it were not for the fact of his race and his background (past drug use, etc.) If this were, say, a middle aged Latino male who gave the same speeches and had the same lack of experience as Barack Obama, he would have been out of the race months ago and you all know it.

I don’t know where you’re from or how old you are, but your statement… “it seems that in America if you have the smallest bit of African American ancestry in you then you are BLACK. It’s sad, but it has proven to unfortunately be true”…. is not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of fact and history.
In America the LAW was that if you had one drop of Black blood that you were Black. It was called the “one drop rule” and it dictated that anyone would be considered Black if they had any African ancestry and it was given legal sanction in many states.

This is getting real crazy…
at first the argument was, Obama would never win the nomination BECAUSE he is BLACK. Now that he has killed that argument, now the argument is, he will WIN THE NOMINATION only because he’s BLACK.
Since he was Black when he started, and I’m pretty sure he’ll be Black at the end…
What really changed?

bob johnson, needs to sit down and shut up. He is still selling out the black folks. Every since he sold BET to a white person, I knew his integrity and loyalty was to the green dollar.
I live in North Carolina and will make every effort to ensure that bob johnson never get one of my dollars for Bobcats, or anything else he owns.
I will always boycott bob johnson(s) products, and BET.
It is sad that the word “Race” is not about the presidential campaign, but instead about something as superficial as the color of one’s skin.
Simply because the clinton’s played the race card in South Carolina, I no longer am voting for Senator Clinton.

#19 and #21,
Aloha from Hawaii,
I am the white mother of a half-black son, now 16, born and raised in Hawaii. He says all is good for him here. His friends are black, white, bi-racial (many half-black), Hawaiian, Samoan, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Puerto Rican, and others. More than 70% of all newborns in Hawaiian are what we call “hapa,” (means “half), like Hawaiian-haole (White), Filipino-black, Samoan-Mexican, and so on. Most folks in Hawaii are shades of brown.
Here in Hawaii my son Ikaika (hawaiian for warrior) is just one of many strong brown people. He is proud of his race, both aspects of it, but especially being black. Everyone accepts him without question, and no one has ever asked me if I, a blonde, blue-eyed woman, am his mother. However, when we traveled to D.C., everyone asked me if he was adopted, or if he was hispanic, and other weird shit. Def. different on the mainland.
I think Obama learned a lot growing up here, and I wish you all could enjoy it. Cost of living is high, but there is no better place on earth to raise a child.

Look, let’s bottom line this. Bob Johnson has a loyalty to the Clintons, and insofar as support, we know where he stands.
Is there some credence in Geraldine Ferraro and Bob Johnson’s assesment of why America has fallen in love with Barack Obama? You know, I am going to agree with a portion of what Josh said on his post.
I do believe that part of the reason we are in love with Barack is because he is African American, and why exactly is that bad? The country was built on the back of our slave ancestors; for us to rise from the pits of slavery to the highest office in the country is absolutely something to celebrate. Do I believe Obama hasn’t somehow earned the Black vote? YES! To earn the white vote, Barack has had to campaign heavily and tread lightly. To win an overwhelming amount of the Black vote, in fact record breaking percentages (91%) of the black vote — Obama had to win Iowa. Once he won Iowa he won the Black vote. Prior to Iowa, we didn’t see his earning the nomination as possible. So, there are Black’s in this country who will cast their vote based on race and not issues. And guess what folks? Thats OK to.
Where Bob Johnson is wrong, is that if Barack Obama were a white freshman senator from Illonois with a talent for authoring/delievering eloquent rhetoric, and this sort of bold new politics en-tout, he wouldn’t go by the name Jerry Smith, he’d go by the name Abraham Lincoln.
Let’s remember that when Lincoln delivered the “A House Divided” speech, his own colleagues remarked collectively that it was a huge and unfortunate mistake. He had this perilous sentiment hovering above his political career and nearly every prediction went against the possibility of Presidency after that speech. Nevertheless he rose above the nay-sayers and became our 16th President. Fortunately we’ve learned some lessons since then, so Obama’s speech which was criticized for its timing, praised for its bold honesty, and understood because of its undeniable necessity — has not gotten the same vast shunning that Lincoln experienced. MY POINT? The only thing different about Obama is his race. We’ve had these sort of transcendental figures in the past, we’ve had agents of change before, they just haven’t been Black.
Ronald Regan was an inspirational character with lots of attractive rhetoric to offer America and he like Obama, managed to captivate so many Americans with his charm. Even today in the political lexicon we’ve coined southern whites, and small town voters as “Regan Democrats.”
Bob Johnson’s problem has something to do with bitterness, a profound willing denial of history or perhaps a sincere lack of education. For which the later is hard to believe given his background and access to education. Sometimes we get so passionate, that we dilute ourselves in whatever excuses we must make to explain away our desperate situation. Face Reality Mr. Jonson! We’ve had white versions of Barack Obama; while they haven’t been as young (Unless we’re including Bill Clinton, which is debatable) they have been as fresh(man).

TO my black brother Judah thank you for attempting to educate the simple minded and ignorant. Continue to spread light and be a poor righteous teacher. Johnson is a tom and what will hopefully come from this election is that blacks understand the power we wield and can put into action. Through racism and placism this election will be turned into a mockery by November more so than the ones in ‘00 and ‘04. We must all stay awake!

Some blacks are voting for Obama because he is black. They have stated such on this very site. Also, some whites are voting for Obama because of his race and they believe the election of Obama will go a long way to healing the racial divide. Some will vote for him because he is an eloquent speaker and his message is one of positve change. Some will vote for him because of his political stance on a number of issues including education, the economy, foreign affairs, etc. But in my heart of hearts I believe the number of people that know about his voting record and his experience are fewer in numbers. ( I am not suggesting there is something there that will change their opinion.) It is likely that several have formed their opinions based on media soundI bites or pundits who are biased for or against, as if they are all objective in their views. .
I have been and will continue taking the time before the national election to learn all I can about Mr. Obama. I will make up my mind based on my research and analysis of his words and actions.

Although Joyner suggested that Smiley couldn’t take the heat surrounding his remarks on Obama, Smiley contended that he needed time to concentrate on other endeavors. [...]
