NEWS ROUND UP: PARALYZED TRACK STAR WALKS AGAIN / BET & MTV ASSAULT KIDS EVERY 38 SECONDS / MAGIC JOHNSON’S $1 BILLION URBAN FUND

Last winter, 20-year-old Adrian Gordon, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when a friend’s speeding car blew a tire on the Long Island Expressway. Gordon was ejected, fractured his spine and was told he’d never walk again.

For weeks, Gordon was only able to move his eyelids, until one night a sensation in his foot awoke him.

“I looked at my toes and saw them moving because I knew when I went to sleep they weren’t moving,” Gordon said. “I made sure I stayed up all night, because I’m like…look, if they’re moving now, I’m going to keep moving them all night, so it won’t go away!!”

Gordon, a former high school sprinter, was a student at Borough of Manhattan Community College where he studied accounting when the accident occurred. He now plans to return to school but will major in sports medicine, in hopes of helping people with injuries similar to his.

“Without a doubt, I know it’s a miracle,” Gordon said last week at a news conference held in the hospital’s rehabilitation unit and attended by the physicians and therapists who guided his recovery. [ Read the article in its entirety. ]

BET & MTV ASSAULT KIDS EVERY 38 SECONDS

According to a study analyzing BET’s “Rap City”, “106 & Park” and MTV’s “Sucker Free” by the Parents Television Council and the Enough is Enough Campaign, BET and MTV are bombarding teen viewers with sexual, violent, profane or obscene images every 38 seconds.

“What BET and MTV are offering to children on these three programs is full of offensive and vulgar content, the likes of which cannot yet be found on broadcast television. Being in the trenches fighting for better indecency enforcement and cable choice on behalf of millions of American families, we thought we’d seen it all – but even we were taken aback by what we found in the music video programs on MTV and BET that are targeted directly at impressionable children,” PTC President Tim Winter said.

The report also offers four recommendations that will not only encourage positive and constructive dialogue around the issue of program content, but also create movement toward greater accountability and responsibility in eliminating the graphic content to which our children are exposed.

MAGIC JOHNSON’S $1 BILLION URBAN FUND

( Photo: Splash News )

The Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund, a partnership between Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and former Lakers guard Earvin “Magic” Johnson, announced last week it had concluded raising a $1 billion fund targeted for new development and urban revitalization.

With nearly $2 billion in committed capital, the Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund is the country’s largest private equity fund focused solely on the revitalization of American’s densely populated, ethnically diverse communities.

Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund III will fund new development specifically geared to the population in ethnically diverse, densely populated neighborhoods with strong demand for new retail, residential or warehouse and distribution centers.

“The potential for continued revitalization in ethnically diverse communities is nearly limitless,” Johnson said. “Demand for affordable housing and community-serving retail is only going to increase.” Bobby Turner, managing partner of the fund, added.

  1. Not to diminish the more positive portions of this post because Magic is definitely doing good and doing well (DGADW) and Adrian Gordon is a truly blessed individual, but I want to speak about that BET/MTV study.

Recently, I wrote about the Fascists Controlling Communications and how it’s not the job of the government to protect our children from “obscene” and “indecent” material; parents should be handling such matters.

What should we do, though, if they aren’t doing their job?

  2. ReyaStar

Wow as if there wasn’t enough proof that God is good!!! Praise him!!!!

  3. crunkpoet

  6. Dame

Majic Johnson is doing a great thing.

I am excited about the young man

  7. LANE

Not to take away from the positive stories, but 106 and park and sucker free is worse than Jackass and a lot of other non-black shows. I personally don’t watch BET anymore because I feel they need better shows than Black Poker. Not to be funny, but when has either show actually showed the whole video. They only show about 38 seconds of the video. I agree with J. Dakar, as parents we need to control what are children watch.

  8. Greg_Arious

I wish they would have included MTV’s non black programming which is detrimental as well. Why only focus on sucker free when you have Jackass, and RW/RR challenges, Tila Tequila and so much more. Im not disagreeing with the findings but I do think the study is a little biased.

  9. London Blatino NikKa

i really think BRINGING BET TO UK was way wrong
    MTV is bad enough
NOT that we don`t like black stuff but it`s just Negative stuff on BET and MTV
and why are they showing 106 and park from 2006 and still showing those old ass lil kim and DMX shows MTV showed UK people those already years ago

    F#@k M.T.V F#@k B.E.T
i`m an angry teenage with brain

  10. Peacekeeper00

Amazing story about Adrian Gordon. That’s a beautiul thing.

So glad MTVand BET are being called out. The only thing is VH1 should have been thrown in there, they are the absolute worst. It’s population and doing nothing to uplift the community. It’s nice to have fun but not when it’s done at the cost of degrading our community. BET use to stand for something positive; now it’s all about money. I liked them better when they were low budget.

  11. mphsmade

I ALMOST SHOUTED WHEN I READ THAT!!! EEEEYY!!! THANK YA LORD!!!!! YES, GOD!!!!

  12. Kenny Da Don

  16. WhatIThinkIs

    In response to J. Dakar:

What should we do if parents aren’t doing their job? I have no idea. There are many parents out there who are trying their hardest to do their job as a mother and father. Think of the single parent home, or the low income families who have to work two or three jobs a day. They might not be able to spend much time with their kids because they have to work to support a roof over their heads. They can’t always be there to tell their kids to turn off the TV. They probably hope that their kid is watching TV rather than hanging on the streets. Anyway, in this case, it’s not that the parents aren’t doing their job. It’s just that there are so many jobs to do. One person can’t do everything. So why not have the FCC help out. I understand that MTV and BET are liberal stations. But sometimes they do take it too far. I don’t see anything wrong with sensoring some things. Or at least play some of the more adult shows later on at night and not rerun it all during the day when the kids come out of school and the parents aren’t home. I mean, some of the dating shows and the more sexually explicit shows, they could play only at night or after 8pm, when most parents are home. But they rerun those shows at, like, 4pm. That’s not too good. I’m just saying, you can still be liberal. But maybe just rearrange the programming.

  17. ANGRY 19YEAR OLD BOY

MTV shows HOW rich OC kids live
we don`t want that because thats showing us that we ain`t shit
and that TILA TEQ show is just wrong
FLAV of what? damn girls(like those) you need jesus

BET is just 100% trash anyway and where is that the BLACK you mean with all those really bad influencing shows?

ANYONE noticed that DMX always had a gun on his waist through out his show?

am still angry (I FEEL SORRY FOR MY MOTHERS RACE) and you are my people too DAMN

I HOPE people would COME ON CL more beacuse it shows positive people(except that sex tape KIM girl)
No Britney trash here and it don`t get positive than that

  18. shoyouright

i love these posts fyi. great way to cover the whole black diaspora.

i work in media. let me just say that these programs are a reflection of what these networks think who their audience is and what they will gravitate towards. networks develop programming to attract who they feel is their demographic in order to deliver that audience to an interested advertiser who buys/sponsors the program. unfortunately, bet and mtv deliver a very young market who happens to enjoy things that older and more conservative people may have a problem with (i.e. sex, money, violence, etc). i think it’s a phase, and normal of youth and adolescence especially in today’s time. if kids don’t get it here, they’ll get it somewhere else. just wish there was more diversity in programming to give more of a balance, but that’s the responsibility of the youth and those providing access to this media to demand. in the meantime, they/we will sit back and continue collecting checks from this monkey-see-monkey-do cycle.

  19. Kween215

    MAGIC….gotta luv him for that.

  20. Lori

Praise God for healing that young man! What a blessing!
I can’t even watch MTV and BET anymore because I feel like i’m losing brain cells
I love what Magic Johnson is doing for urban communities!

  21. Miss. Tiandez Jones

wow, that is truly a blessing, God is good!

About this MTV and BET programming matter however, I must say that, although there’s all this bad stuff on tv and the content is usually degrading and vulgar, parents play a crucial role in what their children watch.

It’s important for children to know the difference between artificialness and reality, and my parents did a good job of instilling values and a sense of reality in me. For a while growing up, I watched MTV and BET regularly, but while watching it I knew exactly what was right from wrong, moral and immoral, and after watching it, i went about my business. I knew I didn’t want to be like the video hoes and that I wasn’t going to go out and shoot up the place because a rap song said so…why? Because my parents had excellent parenting skills and showed me the power of individuality and of a mind. Kids try too hard to be like every one else and end up being so painfully generic.
Yes, BET and MTV are broadcasting a lot of negative content to the youth of today, however I don’t think they should be solely blamed for the resultant effects on them. There needs to be some type of accountability and corporate responsibility for what is broadcasted on networks, however there will always be a conflict of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable because of different preferences and due to this, parents need to be filtering what their children watch. SIMPLE!

  22. LIVEWIRE!!!

Whats with everyone jumping on this whole “I hate BET” bandwagon??
I mean I don’t watch BET like that but I do watch 106th park and College hill
and I don’t see whats soo bad about BET thats making everyone not like it….
    Would anyone care to explain?

  23. its me bitches!

well i admit that some rap videos are fucked up and could do better, i look at the choices of shows they choose to research on for mtv and it really just looks like an attack on rap music

  24. ThinkAboutIt

That’s a wonderful story about Adrian – Praise GOD.

Magic continues to do good things for the community – MVP, both on and off the court.

  25. cosign #23. BET has changed so much in the last couple years, I think it’s actually more decent than it was back in the UNCUT days. BET is suffering from a great lack of original, interesting, appealing programming. Days of old reruns, soulja boy, and coonery is whats driving BET in the ground! The only thing they really have going for them now is specials, hence the all the awards shows they do now.

  26. Tbeenitsince87

okay so i dont know if its just me and my comp but imma need for something to be done about the edges bein cut off of these posts!… im lowkey turning into a CL fiend and this is getting under my skin the a crack itch… get it together noooow shoot

  27. NotImpressed

VH1 is the worst of all of those channels. Someone needs to be researching and saying something about that.

  28. cookie

    @ J. Dakar

The problem with BET and MTV goes much deeper than parents controlling their children. It is an all out assault on the minds of young people that uses black people as the fall guy. What you see on TV does not represent creative freedom. It is a corporate controlled and created, mass consumed product, built for profit that is marketed to children. Everything we see an hear is owned by a few people – all white, all men. If the FCC was truly doing it’s job, it would not allow for the media consolidation that has created the problem that were in.

What people don’t want to discuss is the fact that these stations knowingly make their money off of children. The market themselves to children and the create programs specifically aimed at children. How many adults do you see in the audience during 106 & Park? And when people call them out, they all pretend that their programming is aimed at adults and parent should be more responsible for what their children watch.

I’m all for responsible parenting, but I refuse to absolve these corporations of their responsibility to provide programing that is appropriate for the audience they market too. And as a black person, I refuse to stand idly by while stations like MTV, BET and VH1 (all owned by the same person) produce content that degrades us, demeans us and reduces us to nothing but living, breathing stereotypes. Maybe some of you’ll might not have a problem with the way black people are portrayed in the pop culture, but I do.

If people really knew anything about freedom of speech, they would know what you see on these stations is far from it in the first place.

  29. cc

    @19

I don’t think a reasonable excuse for BET or MTV’s content is that they think that is what the demographic would like. I know of no other channels that have such horrible programming that they attempt to pass of as ‘cool’. They are THE CHANNELS for young people. They are perfectly aware of that. They know that regardless they will attract the key demographics. They don’t have to demoralize their shows or promote stereotypes (or irresponsible living for that matter) to be hip.

Additionally please explain to me why there are audiences full of high schoolers singing songs about phone sex, hitting from the front and back, getting low, or whatever nonsense is on the radio, and these video’s are playing on 106th and Park? This music is what is demoralizing and desensitizing them.

  30. african_queen

completely agree with cookie …cookie really spoke the truth
gods praises can never be enough i wish him(adrian gordon)the best luck and a complete recovery

  31. K.K.

Wat the F*k?! If the white people wanna attack somebody, look @ their own movies first! Not even 10 minutes into a movie they’ve had three vulgar sex scenes! They probably let their kids watch R movies at 12 let alone MTV and BET. And the typical “Im ok w/ my kid drinkin as long as it’s in my house and then let them drive a car a couple of hours later”. This jus tees me off a lil bit. They’re just finding a music genre to attack. Rock isn’t the most peaceful genre either. People are so ignorant…

  32. ThinkAboutIt

    # 1 – Really the issue is not just about BET or MTV – yes, they are easy targets, but many of the magazines, blogs, myspace, youtube and everything else has far more obscene and negative information and images.

Parents and families have to raise their children, and that family can be biological, extended, cultural or whatever. There has to be a commitment to raise the children that you bring into this world. You teach, and more importantly you “SHOW” your children how to make good choices – and then you have to keep them engaged in positive things and positive thinking.

It’s not easy, it’s a lot of work — but as a parent you made the choice to bring a child into this world, now you have to make the choices to keep them safe and productive while they are here.

  33. cookie

BTW. If these stations were serious about not marketing children, why won’t they agree to legislation for CABLE CHOICE. This would allow consumers to pay for the cable channels they want and not order the ones they don’t want. So if your a parent and you want the Disney channel, but not BET you can have it your way.

I find it interesting that the same companies who don’t want government interference in their programming, don’t mind having government protection of their businesses. Right now stations like BET are subsidized by monthly cable fees. Even if you don’t watch it you still pay for it. Parent groups having been trying to push legislation forward for CABLE CHOICE for years, but companies like Viacom have been successfully blocking it, because they know that if people were able to buy stations “a la carte” stations like BET would be hanging on by a thread.

If it’s not unreasonable to ask why parents don’t parent their children, I don’t see why it so unreasonable to ask why people shouldn’t be allowed to pay only for the channels that watch. These companies like to have it both ways – no government interference in their programing, but government protection of the business even if it violates every principle of the free market.

  34. cc

    @ J. Dakar

I see that a few people are stating that parents are primarily responsible for the state of youth today. I would be hard pressed to viably disagree with that, however, I do believe that BET and MTV are more irresponsible than parents. A lot of the more reckless shows they air are on after-school, and before parents get home from work. With that being said, these stations have a choice in what they choose to be aired. Let’s take music videos for instance. If BET or MTV were to say, “We’re not playing any videos that depict scantily clad women, or discuss subject matters that don’t fit the under 18 crowd (because I certainly don’t know any grown people who watch BET– they don’t have any programs that older people really watch like that) or glorifies violence, or foolish expenditures of money (half those rappers will be broke as a joke in less than 10 years).”– then what do you think would happen?
For a lot of musical artists those two are a large medium through which they gain and keep fans, and they are certainly powerful enough to put a stop to the foolishness.

With that being said, we need to hold more of the rappers and singers accountable as well. Don’t tell me you make grown folks music, and then at your concert all I see is high schoolers. They KNOW what age their fans are.

  35. eh i stopped watching 106 & park after Free and AJ left.

  36. Diabolical

Its ridiculous, parents are so easy to blame someone else for their own shortfalls. It has nothing to do with BET and MTV … If they take those shows off TV, what are the ones ABOVE 18 going to watch? Come on … Parents just need to do their job. If they don’t like it, don’t let the kids watch it. Easy as hell.

  37. cc

Can you guys make a poll or something and put it up to see who watches BET and what age range, also how frequently.

  38. MLOVE

I absolutely 100% agree about the abuse of BET and MTV!! I’m not a mother yet but I’ve already vowed that my kids will NOT be exposed to certain things –BET and MTV being some of the things. It’s a real problem when 3 and 4 year olds can do the Soldier Boy, knows the entire song and don’t know the ABCs! I agree it’s abuse and I don’t want my kids abused.

  39. knockkey

How soon will they find a reason to cancel black shows. Bob sold bet to viacom

  40. I agree wholeheartedly, ThinkAboutIt, Cookie and CC.

It’s not about BET, MTV, VH1 or any other network. My question was not meant to point the blame at any of them, particularly because they’re not the ones in control. I recognize that the purpose of any business is to make a profit but it can also be socially responsible while doing so, in turn doing good and doing well (DGADW).

Everyone just needs to take responsibility for their role in all of this and do whatever needs to be done to rectify this situation.

  41. BeBe

Just raise your kids right!!!! It aint that hard

  42. Young Hollywood

I wish I was on this council! MTV and BET are horrible representations of how young people should conduct themselves.

Now grant it, parents play a major roll in the development of their children, but we all know that our peers and pop culture was KING when we were young, what the new style, fashion and music is the driving force for MOST TEENS.

MTV- and that damn Tila Tequila show………WTF are you teaching these young girls????

BET-especially has a responsibility to at least to enforce education, to college bound teens and those who may not be sure about college. They have the best platform, you already have the teens attention!

Artists as well, Stop shaking your A$$ and camofloging the fact that you cant sing and support these causes. Take responsibility for ufcking up our teens in this country!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. ThinkAboutIt

    #41 -

This is really not about MTV and BET, the report is about “Rap Music Videos” – the report is entitled “Rap on Rap” — They are talking specifically about 3 rap/hip hop videos shows.

The reports shows that 10 companies made up 41% of the commercials during this study on these 3 shows:

    - Proctor & Gamble
    - 20th Century Fox & Universal Studios [probably promoting movies]
    - YUM! Brands which is world’s largest resturant co. – KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell
    - GM
    - Vonage
    - Sony
    - Walt Disney
    - AT&T
    - McDonalds

It’s a dichotomy, because I guarantee that most if not all of these companies have some humanitarian and community service programs that many children benefit from and at the same time they are the primary supporters of the programs that are “assaulting” kids every 38 seconds.

The reality is that “for profit” businesses are in business for one primary purpose — to make money, and take that money to make more money. When they do have humanitarian and community programs, the underlining purpose to to gain favor to make more money.

Most companies have a lot of organizations, departments, board members and a gang of committees, but I don’t know of one who has a “social responsibility” VP yet. It’s just not what they are about.

  44. Yasmine

I don’t watch MTV or Bet. I tried to watch those Gauntlet shows or whatever they’re called…. where they compete and I just couldn’t do it. Every other word is F*** you, I F**** this person last ….blah, blah, blah.

Normal people don’t act like that. Yes, people occasionally act crazy, but these shows make it seem like it’s typical everyday behavior!

I wasn’t allowed to watch either network growing up. I’m 18, living on my own and I still don’t watch them. I don’t really think I’m missing out on much!

  45. SUPERCENT

As a parent I make sure my daughter don’t watch a lot of television as a whole anyways. Nor do I allow her to listen to the radio, if so certain stations and my ears are open when doing so. She is my responsibility and I take pride in this. I had to explain to her how what you watch, read, and listen to affect and change you emotion. I asked her what happens when you listen to a song on the radio, she said I sstart dancing. Then I asked her, what happens when you are watch a movie and it’s dark, rainy and someone is running for their life. She answer, I get scared.

At lot of times even as adults we don’t realize how many things around us affect our emotions and the way we think. Some positive some negative. Even I, as an adult, am careful as to what I am viewing on tv, books and magaizines I am reading and espeically what I listen to musically. So this issue not only effect our children but adults as well. Commercials plays a part in what we purchase.

Its not possible for me to be everywhere my child is. But I let her know to be careful as to whom she associate with and who she calls a friend. I can’t control how others raise their child, but I can definitely control what is happening in my home. This will never be left up to my child. And she knows this. In the end it will be up to her as to the decision she makes. In the end, the consequences may be good or bad.

  46. Anonymiss

If you let your kids watch TV for more than 2 hours they considered lazy period. If they considered watching BET,MTV they effected.WRONG!It’s parents responsibility to teach their child to get up off their lazy ass and read a book instead of the remote control.I watched BET since I was young, and sure I was not effected up the images on the TV and I’m surely not now because BET,MTV is not the only station on my cable that most pay only $60 a month to use.You can cut the channels off if you don’t like it.Make your own station.Find your inspiration instead of complaining, they already think black folks complain enough.Go on myspace or any social networking site, it’s just as degrading but parents aren’t complaining about that.

  47. CRIP TALK

YOU CAN BLAME ALL OF THESE STUPID ASS SOUTHERN RAPPERS FOR THE DEMISE OF BET. THE RAPPERS FROM THE SOUTH ARE THE MOST IGNORANT TALENTLESS UGLY BLACK MUTHA FUCKAS ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. THE SOUTH KILLED HIP HOP AND THEY SHOULD BE THE BLAME FOR ALL OF THIS FOOLISHNESS ON BET. FUCK THEM SOUTHERN COONS!!

  48. Nunu

No no no. About the PTC comments etc.

Has anyone noticed that they are all WHITE MALE on the board? What representation do they have?

I know BET has its rubbish aspects, but gimme a break about White patriarchy? I don’t need to say more for those who have a critical eye

  49. whouwannab22

so true about bet and mtv…parents, it’s so time to step up, like yesterday…….explain how tv is for entertainment and ratings, at any expense, even morals and values…so on and so forth…yall get the pic

  50. DanTheMan

I believe that it is irresponsible as adults to blame MTV and BET for teaching children the things that some parents wish to shelter their children from. It is even more outrageous for them to single out MTV and BET as if they are the worst of the worst.

There are shows on MANY other cable networks such as CSI, Law & Order, All Those Lifetime Movies, Damn Near Any Reality Show On Any Station, Even OPRAH has pregnant men on her show!!!!!!!!!!! You have Jerry Springer, Maury, even the Damn News Can Be Offensive Sometimes!!!! Not to mention the ads that make McDonalds and Wendys and Popeyes Look Like health food to young kids that dont know any better can be damaging i guess right?!?!

My Point Is That If The Way To Handle This Is To Eliminate It Then Maybe These Parents That Are Complaining Should… Cutt Off Your Cable, Shut The Internet Off, Never Turn The Radio On, Never Go Outside (Because God Knows What You Can See In This World On A Daily Basis) and just sit your children on their bed in an empty room with just their toys and Barney tapes AND SEE WHAT KIND OF ADULTS THEY TURN OUT TO BE!!!!!!

  51. DanTheMan

OKAY PARENTS TURN OFF THE CABLE, THE INTERNET AND PHONE, DONT EVER TURN ON THE RADIO AND KEEP YOUR KIDS IN THE HOUSE…

OMG TELL THESE PEOPLE TO LOCK THEIR KIDS IN THEIR ROOMS WITH THEIR TOYS AND BARNEY TAPES AND SEE WHAT KIND OF ADULTS THEY GROW UP TO BE!!!

YOU CAN GO OUTSIDE ON A DAILY BASIS AND SEE CRAZY THINGS THAT YOU WILL NEVER SEE ON MTV AND BET!!!

IT IS SO EASY TO TARGET PROBABLY THE TWO MOST WATCHED CABLE STATIONS ON TELEVISION BECAUSE THEY ARE SHOWING WHAT PEOPLE DO TO REFLECT THEIR LIFE IN AN ARTISTIC MUSICAL WAY AND NOT A WAY THAT ALWAYS PORTRAYS WHAT IS POLITICALLY CORRECT…. IF YOU TURN ON THE NEWS, OR SPORTS OR DAMN.. EVEN OPRAH HAS PREGNANT MEN ON HER SHOW NOWADAYS!!! YOU ARE GONNA SEE FAR MORE THINGS THAT ARE MENTALLY DAMAGING TO CHILDREN….

AND EVEN ME BEING A WHITE MALE MYSELF.. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT A GROUP OF OLDER STUCK UP WHITE PEOPLE CAME UP WITH THIS THEORY… UGHH

  52. NoMoSoul

Yeah, i have to agree on that one. A lot, but not all, Southern rappers really brought forth the demise of real hip hop.

But lets face it, it wasn’t until the late 1990s, way b4 the explosion of southern rap, that rap music glamorized the ghetto as if it was the life to live. Buffoonish and shallow behavior indeed. But nowadays its like music has no standards. So I’ve resigned to being against just about 90% of the pop music out there these days. Thats what i call it, POP music. It dont matter if its R, Kelly, Britney, Rihanna, Nelly, Crunk Music, Ciara, T-Pain, Akon, etc, its all bullshit pop music,

I discovered that a lot of these craptastic rappers aren’t even educated themselves. So I ask you all to seek out intelligent music from EDUCATED artist. Not the ones selling their souls and selling out the people with no experience or desire to learn, by making uneducated music. Music should inspire, move you, have fun with it sometimes, or teach you something.

Rihanna, T-Pain, Akon(after his first album), Nelly, Lil Wayne (Sorry, he’s clever with words and delivery BUT DOESN’T TALK ABOUT ANYTHING,) SOULJA BOY (because of this moron hip hop has reached an all new low) and so forth.

These retarded artists and so so so So SO much more do NOTHING for hip hop.

And yea, this board review (sounds like it was run by white people) does seem way biased if they’re only going to solely attack black shows on not only BET but MTV. If they want to attack these shows they should broaden their focus on the other programs these channels provide. There are no good shows on either of these channels. No one is safe from the exploitations of our people as well as the darkside of humanity.

Music and TV on these channels has no standard. They’re always looking to push the envelope, especially with that lesbianesque Tequila Tila show. Its complete buffoonery.

    Educate yourselves

  53. NoMoSoul

@52, what people do to reflect their lives in an artistically musical way? Please tell me your joking.

So half-naked girls shakin their half-naked asses, rims, partying, smoking, LOLLIPOPS(ambiguous language) and all of its repetitiveness is a way for dumb artist to express themselves musically? So there’s no other way to make a music video without these ingredients? And targeted towards kids, because lets face it, that’s who’s gonna pick it up. And its influence is a major component of Pop culture which only hurts the masses, as the evidence is as clear as day these days.

BET and MTV are selling us out for a quick buck. They know it, we know it. Its a business like Bob Johnson said. Luckily i dont contribute to any of these shows ratings…

I agree with the mtv stuff, they are showing stupid programmes that have negative effects, even on adults. All that showing of promiscuosity, and all that.

  55. ITS A GOOD THING MTV AND BET GOT CALLED OUT!!!!! WAKE THE F*CK UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!

SOCIETY is partly responsible for the education of their children. Not just the kids’ respective parents. And kids are the future!

It takes a VILLAGE to raise a child. STOP HAVING THAT EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF MENTALITY, the media plays a HUGE ROLE in how people perceive reality. And all y’all know it. Even when parents do their job they can’t control the impact of what SOCIETY saturate their kids with 24/7.

I’m glad MTV and BET got called out on their bullsh*t!

God is so good!!! I am deeply touched by Adrian’s story. I can’t even imagine the joy he is experiencing now. God is real.

Thats such a great miracle what happen to Adrian Gordon! I hope he continues to recover!

As for the BET and MTV subject: This topic should have had its on post.
Its ridiculous the amount of sexual nature is presented on a regular basis to these children. I’m 23 years old and I dont remember seeing nearly as much graphic things as I see now lol. I know times are changing but it seems in this case its changing for the worse. The Videos that are shown on 106 & park are BEYOND grown! and the show is mainly targeted at middle and high school students. They show videos like Dream-Falsetto. Is the show aware of what the hell this song is about? And ok I know it all goes back to what the parents should allow their kids to watch, which is very true, but damn!! 85% of what is on has some kind of Vulgar content. I mean they dont have anything targeted at the 12-17 age range thats actually decent! Should we force them to watch SpongeBoB and Dora the Explorer just to shield them away from the filth? I could go on and on with this topic.

u are just plain dumb if u don’t wear a seatbelt while in a moving vehicle. i’m gonna say it, those people that do that deserve to die in a carwreck. u should think of it as being out of respect for innocent people like children that die in carwrecks without wearing their seatbelts due to their ignorant ass parents
