( Photo: Molly Riley/Reuters )Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the vice presidential nomination, said Republican strategist Dan Senor. On “This Week with George Stephanopolous” on Sunday, Senor added “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this.”
Last week, an aide said it was “not true” that Rice had expressed interest in running.
“There’s this ritual in Washington: The Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders — about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor said. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — the first time a secretary of state has visited the Wednesday meeting.”
CLINTON RELEASES RETURNS
( Photo: Chris Keane/Reuters )Sen. Hillary Clinton released her tax returns on Friday, making public “thirty years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service,” said spokesman Jay Carson in a statement. “None of Hillary Clinton’s presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information,” he added.
The records show Bill and Hillary Clinton paid more than $33.7 million in federal taxes on a joint income of $109 million and donated $10.2 million to charities over the past eight years.
Clinton’s returns are available online.
On Sunday, it was announced that Clinton’s chief strategist Mark Penn had resigned after his private business arrangements clashed with her campaign positions.

51. Perhaps you should do some more research on Barry Goldwater. Hillary was a registered Republican, a Goldwater girl and actively supporting his campaign. I don’t know about you but if I have a choice of candidates to donate my time and money to I usually pick someone whose policies I agree with. Otherwise I’d be stumping for McCain right now – since according to you it doesn’t quite matter. I know that you are a HRC supporter so you don’t really want to hear my critique regardless. I should add that compared to other right wingnuts Goldwater would probably be thought of as a moderate though he was dubbed Mr. Conservative. Hillary switched to the Democratic party after Nixon won the nomination and of course she had met Bill by that time and the rest is history. Also I should mention Hillary has been trying to claim disinterest in NAFTA yet Mark Penn AND Howard Wolfson have current active relationships with companies that are negotiating a trade deal with Columbia. So back to that whole candidate supporting issue I’d ask why support a candidate that talks about making fair trade agreements for workers in the US who is involved in negotiating expanding NAFTA to Columbia which would take more jobs away or prevent them from being available? One of the reasons President Hugo Chavez is considered unfavorable to the US is because he vehemently opposed a NAFTA expansion to Venezuela. And remember President Sadam Hussein was a ‘friend’ to the US for years while he was murdering and terrorizing people but he did the bidding of the gov’t. It was once he was no longer useful and [in]famously tried to assassinate George Bush Sr. that he became an enemy.
I have personally read MLK’s speeches and can go through them line by line for comparison so trust me Dr. Wright has simply carried on the tradition as opposed to veering greatly away from it or saying something ‘original’ if you will. Only because the core problems that existed 40 years ago still exist today though some aspects are much better, others are much worse. The content of both men’s discussions about the state of Black people, the US gov’t violation of human rights and it’s aggression against other countries/it’s own population and other items ARE CURRENT. Drugs being imported into this country, drug sentencing, the prison industrial complex, use of the media to limit the flow of information, the consolidation of media, allowing media companies to illegally spy on its citizens AND then trying to pass laws that let them off the hook from prosecution [FISA], lying about reasons to go to war, etc., this list could take me a year. Too many people have been complacent and were willing to ‘make a quick buck’ over securing real structural change. Also so many people have been killed [Malcolm, Martin, JFK, the Panthers]. At one time even the ‘average’ white young person got riled up enough against the gov’t to take action or ams [SLA, etc]. People were tired of status quo and perhaps violence wasn’t the best means to get the gov’t to change but people went for broke. I’m just glad we have the internet and blogs and a place where people can come together from around the world to exchange information and have discussions even if we don’t agree. Censorship and limited access are a means of control and we should definitely be on the lookout for it, watch the candidates and find out who’s behind the curtain and what their other relationships involve as it pertains to our lives and the world at large.
