In related news, it was reported yesterday that she had to cancel two of her current tour dates due to a throat ailment. After visiting with doctors, she will hit the road again on April 26th. Feel better Alicia!

I’m in love with her shoes!! Alicia has vocal illness partly because she’s one of the rare artists of today who ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sings live, and being that successful she has to do soooooo many more shows/concerts/performances than the average artist, it was bound to happen. I think the voice needs to rest a lil bit, that’s all.

It’s not that I have a problem with her wearing the scarf aka Gutra/Khimar (**also it has no connection to Islam), as much as this scarf has ties to Filasteen/Palestine. When we rally here in Houston, Tx for an end to the killing of our innocent brothers/sisters many who have ties rock this because it is common head-dress for their country. The red & white version of this is dominant in Saudi Arabia – mostly in the Haram ( a combination of both Medinah/Mecca). I am slightly annoyed that it has become a “fad” amongst non Palestinians. I laugh because next they will start hi-jacking the head-dress of the Muslim women, but when we wear the scarf we are oppressed/married and beaten.
Sorry for the rant.

Alicia is wearing the scarf to protect her vocal cords that is why you see so many R&B artist wearing them… The one’s who care about their voices that is…they are supposed to where stuff like that all the time but normally you don’t see it as much until they start having problems. Case in point Alicia is having problems at this time. They have just gotten more fashionable with the scarfs these days..
Now I can’t speak on the rap artist that wear them but than I guess they have to protect them vocals too cause they get hoarse alot to and can damage something with all that hollering…and some just wear them for fashion which I don’t get that …I saw a girl in my neighborhood with one on the other day I was like come on…it is not that serious and it wasn’t around her neck like she was protecting anything it was def for fashion..just like them darn snow boots…took it and ran with it…

You are so right and I appreciate many of the comments here in concreteloop as oppose to other sites. I went to her opening concert here in VA and she was wonderful. She had a live band as well as her singing live. There was also a session where her band and backup singers went off stage and it was just Alicia and her Piano and she killed about 6 or 7 songs alone! I see why her voice is strained. Yes she may go over range sometimes, but I think she does it because she’s so passionate about her songs she loses control sometimes. Anyways great concert hope she feels better so everyone else can hear how wonderful she is live.

I went to her concert last night, and for all of you with negative comments regarding her voice – she gave a teo hour performance with nothing but live singing. She may have sang out of her range in the past but through practice (which she proved last night) she can now sing those notes and hit them. This chick is the truth.
