You know why Mariah sounds odd live? Because she has the rhythm and musicality of a white person…and we never noticed it before because she was with her husband and still in check singing ballads or little ditties (sp?) that required no more than skipping or flailing around. This is a new age and a new Mariah and she’s trying to be something she’s not. So, the same things she did before in that old category or box her ex built for her seems really weak and lame in this new one she’s trying to build for herself. Now about the Performance, M usually kills it and this just shows anything can happen. Sometimes you can’t sing an entire song for each song, so you use backing tracks and your back-up singes. MC usually saves her voice for songs she needs to kill it on - SMART MOVE!! Learning how to protect your voice is key to being a great vocalist.

**THE TRUTH: Mariah’s vocals aren’t as strong as in the 90s because she has nodules (little lumps) on her vocal cords. The only way to get rid of them is via surgery and it is so risky. Julie Andrews lost her singing voice after getting surgery on her vocal cords. Mariah is trying to take care of her vocal cords thru her doctor’s advice of Vocal Rest, lots of fluids, humidifiers and staying out of smoke free places. Although she had the nodules on her vocal cords since childhood, her condition has worstened a bit.

I heard her live several times between 2005-2006 in concert and she sounded fabulous, not hoarse. Lately with all the promos she’s doing, she gets no vocal rest hence the hoarse voice during recent live performances.
