SPRING FASHION PICKS: GLADIATOR SANDALS

Throw out those flip flops ladies, for this is the season of the GLADIATORS. This style has been on the scene for years now, but I have a feeling that we will see a lot more chicks strapping up their feet this summer (remember: pedicure required).

The ancient Roman shoe is dominating the shoe departments of some of our favorite stores these days. Styles range from the flat footed ankle strapped sandals to the knee length full out gladiators as seen above (and on Chanel and Balenciaga runways). Most recently, starlets Rihanna, Nicole Richie, and Solange were seen rocking the hot shoe trend.

Get your Spartacus on with these picks I found right online ranging from prices $17.99 to $800+

  11. I used to be a fan of Gladiators (the show as well as the shoes) when I was a lil girl…………………..back in the 80′s when I had no sense of style and dress.

I can only pick out one pair that I even stopped to glance at, and that was the third pair, top row.

Other than that, they can keep those in ancient Rome where they belong.

  12. a.k.a. new yorker

    some are cute, some aren’t.
    this trend is old too

  13. slimgoody

i love them! i want to get the ones from cutesygirl. thats like one of my fav websites..

  14. Nothing But Love

Gladitor sandals have been out for ages.

  15. Stayin Fly

Yeah, Tianna mentioned that they’ve been out for years now. But they’re hot with celebs RIGHT now. Everyone knows fashion goes in tired circles. Nice post though.

  16. Lola AM

I must agree the Azzedine Alaia stiletto is cute! I usually only like the knee length Balenciaga, but Chanel has some cute ones too. I can’t get into the flat versions.

    @ BLACK DDS

I use to love the show too!!! lol

  17. Buffy

again, you are soooooooooooooooo late. The first time you did it, I was only underwhel,ed…now, though, I’m insulted. Please stop this. Surely, you must know this is almost a year late.

  18. silly_rabbit

This is gonna sound weird, but I hate how those sandals look without feet in them. But they look supercute when someone’s wearing them…so uhh I might have to snag me a pair… lol ^_^

LADIES LADIES LADIES IF YOUR FEET ARE JACKED UP DONT EVEN BOTHER PUTTING THEM ON HAHAHAHAHAHAH

GET THE CRUST FROM AROUND THAT BABY TOE NAIL

  20. Natural Mystique

I absolutely hate this look. It’s gaudy and constricting at the same time. Very ugly.

  21. ClassVixen

The ones that are the most appealing to me are the cheap versions for some reason.

  22. The cutsey girl ones are cute…and right in my price range. And I agree @ 17, they’re really cute when someone actually has them on, but just looking at a display they’re not as cute.

  23. Peacekeeper00

I’ve been rocking these for a minute now…but of course mine are no where as near experience as the those pictured. Not feeling the black Guivenchy Jelly Gladiator ones.

    LOL

That goes for flip flops, high heels, sneakers, church shoes, house shoes, socks, slide ins, slip ons, roller skates, boots, swim shoes, and so on and so forth.

If four of your ten toes are jacked up, don’t come outside!

  25. MLOVE

I only like the heeled gladiator styles!

  26. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

    Some are cute.

  27. FINE-N-MELLOW

The ones with the heels are kinda cute, otherwise im not feeling them at all.
Are Jellies come back too lol.

  28. UM...I GUESS

those a re cute, but not for everybody. hint to all you females with crustbusters…you MUST wear sneaks or closed toes at all times…

  29. can't we all just get along

i have the pair from Nordstrom…they are really cute in person.

  30. Chiara

I don’t really like this style, it’s too severe, but I like how Solange did the style and thanks Tianna for the picks and pics!

  31. Taj

Even though this trend may be “old” I remember when celebs like Nicole Richie and co. would be photographed wearing them (Caesar wore sandals like these, so Mischa Barton wearing them a year ago seems irrelevent to me, LoL), and I ALWAYS wanted a pair— however, they’ve never been affordable until now. I don’t mind picking up on something that is “old” per se… I mean, they weren’t as accessible then as they are now. I’m the kind of girl who doesn’t feel comfortable wearing heels, but I refuse to wear flip flops.

For me, they work, because if you do it right (like wearing a gold pair with a cute black dress), they can easily go from day shoes to night— and I can still be comfy without sacrificing my style. I don’t worry about being “out of season”— because it’s summer, it’s hot, and all I care about when I leave the house is that I look cute and that I will be able to walk around in whatever shoes I’m wearing all day.

I think when it comes to the sandals, just be creative with how you style it— think outside the box. Over here in VA, I HIGHLY doubt that someone is going to step to me and be like, “OMG, you’re out of style…” cuz then I’ll be like, “BIIIIIIIIITCH!!! Look at what the f*** you got on!!” LoL… jk.

  32. Taj

…umm. sorry about that novel i wrote. haha

  33. Ms Truth

    UGLY! UGLY! UGLY!

  34. irrational rationalist

ugh i hate gladiator sandals…but then i again i hate flats period…but they look cute on solange

  35. *

Not a fan of the look. I will pass on this trend. Wont be caught dead in ‘em. Some people are trend hogs. Just because some fashion mag says they are hot, they will jump right on the bandwagon. If they had seen the shoes without it being on trend, they would have been like ewww and walked right out of the store. I still say ewww and I’m keeping it moving.

  36. Truth

old as in they made a come back from the late 80′s early 90′s trend…. There are two cute pair the stiletto and heel, however I’m not into fads and trends. Nah, I wouldn’t purchase a pair at all. Some things I just like on other people…. this is one of those things…

  37. AMMO

    For the ONE……
I appreciate this story because I love the gladiator trend and that it has comeback for yet another summer.

    For the TWO…
Love Love Love the Balenciaga red braided sandals…those will be in my closet.

TO THE THIRD OF IT ALL….

    #17 aka BUFFY

Its been about 2 years or more

  39. B

personally..I think this style is cute..I copped a pair of the yellow cheap versions..and I also got the exclusive knee-high versions from BEBE in black..

I look at them as a great alternative to those cheap ass flip flops..

They look good with shorts, skirts, and skinny jeans..ON ME

  40. Bambi Hunter

I love em just copped me a pair from ross sure did.

  41. BA

“pedicure required”… Keri Hilson take note

  42. dd

Um…I bought some heeled gladiators LAST year and now I don’t even want to wear them anymore b/c everyone else will be…

  43. Anonymiss

    Wasn’t this trend last year?

  44. Bambi Hunter

oh yeah to all the ladies who are into fashion, I mean you live for fashion tell me this, is it ok not to really match nowadays, I mean when I look at these celebs alot of them are not matching, like Kelis, Teyana Taylor, I mean like is there a way to pull that off without looking like a tacky fool.

  45. kaykay

ooh good, you didn’t feature the pair i plan to buy! if i can scrape up the $38 for them! girl i ain’t never chuckin’ my flip flops but these are a nice alternative plus they offer more arch support i’d assume.

  46. Dame(Stop talking to me u know better)

    Dead @41 that is funny

  47. kaykay

good question #44…i feel like matching belts, purses and shoes is very 1990s down south/New York (i’m from Oakland)-or church lady maybe…I think if the outfit’s coordinated well and you throw in a splash of color it makes the splash stand out even more. hot red shoes w/an all red fit washes out the hot red shoe. hot red shoes w/a black, gray, denim whatever fit, make sthe hot red shoes that much hotter. it works for me. same for hand bags, hats, scarfs, etc.

  48. Bambi Hunter

thanks#47 you made a good point

  49. Something aint right

LOL! I purchased a pair of gladitor sandals in italy three years ago and I’m still rocking them. They look great during the summer! I don’t think they ever went of style! I’ve going on trips to europe since I was 19, and europeans always rock them! I will another pair for the day, maybe something colorful and cute! the problem with trends is that we wear it out so much that people will not be caught dead in them the next year! I’m going to keep on rocking my Glad sandals!

  50. Ms.CoNgo

i like the orange cutesygirl.com sandals the best too. SOme of the other ones are cute too but too expensive for me. Anyways, that cutesygirl.com has a bunch of really cute sandals and other flats for the summer, for really cheap.

  51. MissTee2U

    i have a pair…..
i generally hate flats but i wanted some comfortable and cute shoes for a recent trip. i kinda thought i needed a change from flip flops ya know! i like them and my feet ain’t small…i just copped ballerina flats as well because my feet were like you.can’t.wear.heels.all.the.time. i still prefer heels but flats are great esp. in the summer.
also..high-waisted jeans, bell bottoms, designer denim, asymmetrical haircuts…ain’t none of that new…it was all out and big in the 80′s baby…

  52. Like Em Dark and Slim!

OK! If you wear these ladies, please LOTION YOUR FEET!

  53. Tealeaf

I hate gladiator sandals, they make the foot look extra long.

  54. DH

The funny thing is, the orange 17.99 pair are cuter than all of the other pairs except for the $975 pair.

  55. Ellie Owen

they aren’t just for girls! 3.1 phillip lim has a dope pair on eluxury. and there is another designer who makes “Spats” wich attach to a shoe or sandal to give it that warrior look…also unisex

  56. PROVOST...

Where was everybody last summer? Everyone here is speaking as though gladiator sandals weren’t hot then, too. I guess people who didn’t know that wouldn’t like this style. It’s not a “fad,” though; the shoe has been around for ages…literally, lol.

  57. WTF?? Most of them are ugly as hell, but I only see like two of them that I would ACTUALLY wear.

**Rihanna, your feet are too damn long for those shoes. You dont even need water shoes to swim in the Ocean.

  58. Ty

I got mine from Fashion Fiend (www.fashionfiend.net). They were only $28. You can see them here:
