SPRING FASHION PICKS: GLADIATOR SANDALS
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Throw out those flip flops ladies, for this is the season of the GLADIATORS. This style has been on the scene for years now, but I have a feeling that we will see a lot more chicks strapping up their feet this summer (remember: pedicure required).
The ancient Roman shoe is dominating the shoe departments of some of our favorite stores these days. Styles range from the flat footed ankle strapped sandals to the knee length full out gladiators as seen above (and on Chanel and Balenciaga runways). Most recently, starlets Rihanna, Nicole Richie, and Solange were seen rocking the hot shoe trend.
Get your Spartacus on with these picks I found right online ranging from prices $17.99 to $800+

depends on how you look at it… while the popularity of Stella McCartney’s gladiators would make it several seasons old, that of, say, Balenciaga’s wouldn’t. So, if you’re giving CL the benefit of the doubt (surely, the fashion editor has seen/heard of gladiator sandals before she saw pics of Nicole and Rihanna) you’re assuming she’s intentionally reporting on the recent wave of famous girls in gladiators, right? And, even after giving her that, the benefit of the doubt, this still comes late.

I personally hate those shoes. I first saw Dawn from Danity Kane wearing them a few months ago and I was like why, why, why, but I guess she was Hip to the game…….go figure.

Buffy, sorry to be blunt but STFU. You always come on these fashion posts like you are the end all of fashion trends. Spring is here and these shoes are hot right now, hence the post. YES, they have been hot for awhile and even last spring. But they are hot now as well. My mom was rocking them in the 70s, okay and? The post is here because black celebs are rocking the as well. Peep the photos..
Since you are forever on a fashion posts saying we’re late. How about you send us an email with suggestions and tips instead of trying to flood the comment area with your annoying comments? Just a thought…

The Azzendine Alaia stiletto is cute but not worth 1k. As for the rest… all ugly in my opinion. Like #4 said, as I get older I am not interested in dressing the same as everyone else. I’m happy to be an adult who makes decisions for myself. I don’t think playing into “fads” is a bad thing as long as it doesn’t consume you. So if you want to buy those stilettos, go ahead… just make sure all your bills are paid 1st lol.

don’t get the ones from Delias!!! I got mine in the mail two days ago..and they look horrible in person. The pleather has a crushed velvet look. And they are way to wide for narrow feet.
Also, I want to add that gladiator sandals…or any other fancy strappy sandal does not require a pedicure. The badder the shoe, the less attention on your toes. Trust me, I got ugly toes on my right foot, but no man has ever noticed because I stay wearing bad sandals…hahahah

Someone said these were out last in the 80’s. Is that when it was? lol No matter, I had a black pair. These trends just keep recycling over and over. Many thanks to the ancient Romans fo this “classic” style.

Who cares if my comment wasn’t professional? After all this is my blog, so I can say what I want. Like I said, you always come on these posts running your mouth about something. Instead of downgrading and trying to find something negative all the time, why don’t you send in suggestions? Makes no sense to do this on EVERY fashion post we put up. It seems like you’re bitter or something. Not a good look.

Dead at Angel’s comments lol
Who cares if the style is old or new, I got stuff in my closet from 1,2, even 3 seasons ago I have never worn and if I remember I have it the next time I get dressed I’m putting it on.

You should care if you come off professional or not… In the end, I don’t think I’ve said anything inappropriate… It’s ridiculous that I should be “negative” and “bitter” merely because I voice my honest (if unpopular) opinions… This all seems hypocritical, actually…even if you did think my comments insulting, why call me out when you allow one of your contributers to condescend us? Or did you forget the post about the Balenciaga ripoffs? My whole thing is I think she’s insulting us with these PERPETUALLY late posts…it’s like she doesn’t think we’ll catch it, she doesn’t care if we’ll catch it…and I think that’s a valid argument. So, here’s my tip: UPGRADE the fashion section to the level of the ENTERTAINMENT and POLITICAL sections.

I was rocking gladiator sandals in ‘05. They were on sale at Payless for $5 that spring because no one bought them, but when I wore them everyone complemented me. Stay ahead of the curve not with it!

Look, I’m no slave to the fashion dictators however, didn’t they float the hole idea about gladiator sandals last summer - or was that just London,UK? I really can’t see the big deal we need more choice. I think the shoe retailers trying to off-load some old stock we didn’t buy last year.

I’m no slave to the fashion dictators but didn’t we have gladiator sandals last summer - or was that just London, UK? We need more choice. But then what would the shoe retailers do with last year’s stock - encourage you to buy it this year.

I agree with the previous post, if you have corns, bunions, hammertoes, etc, then the gladiator sandals are not the shoes for you. I personally don’t like them and it would be hard to dress around it. Also, your feet can get really dirty lol, after you take them off, you’ll have stripes on your feet!
The boot sandal looks a bit dominatrix, almost hooker-like.

(rolling my eyes) gladiator sandals came back around 3 summers ago. I bought a couple pairs then..Why the hell are they all over the place this year? This is overkill. .Next year people won’t be able to stand seeing them….

I think they’re cute. I just bought two the other day in white and gold. You would have to know how to dress it up in order for it to look right, ya know?!
