WANT IT FOR CHEAP?: BALENCIAGA KNOCKOFFS
Monday, April 14, 2008

It was only a matter of time before these bad boys would be copied to your local low end retailers. The Balenciaga Fall 2007/08 Cage sandals now have a inspired version courtesy of Bakers Shoes. The open toed Bleue Semelle rose style worn by Beyonce was copied to be sold for a more buyer friendly price of $79.95.
Beats that $4175 by a long shot doesn’t it? I opted for the real deal (thanks to the great folks over at the Balenciaga shop in Paris)…but this is a good alternative for you ladies who don’t have the ends (or a man that has it at least)…

Wait, Bakers didn’t stop there. They also have a similar version of the Balenciaga open toed lace boot that Tracee Ellis Ross loves to wear. There is the tan colorway, as well as black, pink, and a faux snakeskin blue. Now I would consider this copy, I favor the look of the Bakers version.

Wow I thought I’d forgot about those for a second the Beyonce Belenciga ones I mean those are too cute, I actually hate how she wore them I mean seriously that’ s the time when Rihanna should have worn them before her. Them knock offs aren’t cute at all what’s that thing between the shoe anyways. No
But Trace Ellis Ross Belenciga boots are cute am thinking about getting the real deal or the knock off it doesnt matter, I have a club/party outfit that goes well with those. But the knock offs are alrite but the real deal I appericate more being that the quality of shoes gets no better.
I don’t see why not just sell them at Barney’s for a cheaper price then that thousand dollars shyt.

The fact that this happened makes me want to puke. As a fashion writer I think it is so disrespectful to display knock offs let alone promote purchase. The Bakers version are absolutely the ugliest knock offs I’ve ever seen. Just disgusting!

I agree with 67 also, Beyonce did not pay for the ugly shoes, you are the ones paying for them. If Beyonce did not rock them, they would be at some flea market for $9.99 a pair. Sorry but I don’t see cute at all in the shoes. Plus how many times can you rock them before your friends start clowing you.

Both shoes are ridiculously UGLY. My God, I just don’t see what the hype is over those shoes. Yuck.
And the knock offs of the open toe sandals looks even worse than the actual version of the shoe.

I agree with the person who said knockoffs are no different from the real thing. And I think the Baker’s version of the leggo shoe looks better than the $4000 original. So, whoever paid $4000 for those shoes must surely feel stupid. And Beyonce did not pay for them for a fact.
All ladies should try this one day:
Go into a Prada store and try on a couple pairs of their shoes (just front like you have money). Then go to Nordstrom or Bakers and try on those shoes. There is no difference, honey. And trust me, I am 26 and make decent money. I could drop money on shoes if I wanted to, but I am smart enough to put that money into an investment. A SHOE IS A SHOE. Shoes get worn down after you wear them several times..so keep buying the knock offs.

i think from a designer point of view, it totally sucks to put so much into a design to have someone else bastardly copy it. i am also not rolling in the bucks hence why i won’t be buying any balenciaga at this moment. its better to rock something original in a lower price range than to support the pirating of others people’s work by wearing replicas, fakes, copies, twicked reproduction, or whatever you would like to call it.

the shoes are not really my style so i’ll have to pass on them. to each his own.
now, the fact that some people want to attack another person for buying the designer version is ridiculous. it’s NOT like it’s your money. we all have things that we don’t mind spending our own money on so what’s the problem? stop trying to impose your preferences on others. you’re talking about “yea, if i had $4000 i’d use it for my rent”. well, guess what, renting is just as good as throwing money away in the long run because there is no firm foundation or solid investment in that. how about you step your game up and invest in something with appreciating value like a house? when you can do that then maybe (just, maybe) you can speak on someone spending THEIR OWN money on designer labels.

i don’t know why some ppl are saying that men won’t be attracted to you if you’re wearing “ugly” shoes like these. has it ever occurred to u that all men are different/have different tastes. personally i’m more attracted to out-of-the-box guys than the long tee, baggy jeans type so yes, i would rock tracee’s shoes and my man would love them.

Don’t care about the shoes, or who wore them, or who’s buying them, or what people spend their money on (that’s their business, nobody else’s). What caught my attention was this:
“…but this is a good alternative for you ladies who don’t have the ends (or a man that has it at least)…”
–Now, everybody’s got the right to say what they want, but honestly–who proofread this and decided to run with it?? That last bit was extraneous and just plain ignorant.

Tianna, you are the reason why women who dont really have it, go out and buy things they cant afford, trying to keep up with the Jones,’ not knowing these celebrities dont buy most of the clothes/shoes/and some jewelry they wear. They get it for free, so dum dum’s like you can go and pay full price, or make ppl feel like they’s not “it” unless they do. and when my HUSBAND gives me money, i dont buy shoes that cost $4100. im sorry, the language in this post is sooo ignorant/irritating.

First of all, I’m glad to see you’re back with posts. Second of all, why this? I love the shoe boot, I LOVE IT, but you’re wayyyyy late on the knock-off tip…Verrrrry low end chains have already ripped it off. And, that sandal…you weren’t fronting when you made Beyonce best dressed of the year, huh? You like her style enough to spend 4K on that UGLY sandal?! It’s hideous AND it too has LOOOOONNNNG ago been ripped off…go over to aldo’s sight…it’s been on there for ages, they just did a more subtle version.
And, what’s what the sort of pretentious vibe you’re giving off in this post? lol “your local low end retailer”??? lol “or at least a man who does”??? lol Come back down to us, Tiana…I saw you in that BET piece and “our” local low end retailer is yours.

Okay, I just read a bit of the controversy in this topic and I’m not mad at you, Tianna. Did you purposely provoke us because you knew these Balenciaga styles had been ripped off, and on the internet no less, long ago??? lol Anyway, if it’s any consolation, the sandal is hideous and is NOT a collectible and hinges on novelty (meaning it will NOT be chic to wear it in a season or two) BUT you did choose a slightly less hideous version of it than Beyonce did. So, congrats! lol

Anyone who would wear EITHER shoe needs to be SLAPPED silly. You BITCHES (yes bitches because I don’t respect celeb carbon copies) should be ashamed. #67 said it PERFECTLY… just cause a celeb has it, doesn’t make it right. R. Kelly is walking around looking like Goldfinger’s love child; does that mean you gonna hit up your local salon for a tie-dye treatment too? Seriously… grow a damn brain. Hell… read a book. $5000 should be spent on college tuition, car payments, morage, helping starving ppl in foreign countries (better yet YOUR OWN COUNTRY) or SOMETHING less shallow. I understand ppl wanna indulge but seriously… $5000 for a pair of neon patent leather w/ MESH heels? Dear lord be a fence around my soul because this world is truly going to hell w/ its overexposed idol worship.

Plus if you have to buy something because its a cheap version of an overpriced original… you’re pathetic. It would be different if you actually saw them WITHOUT media coverage and said “oh i like those” but no… its “oh shit… my girl B wore some just like those! Damn, how much?” It really does shows who really thinks for you.

#104, this is my thing. I just don’t like the sandal, it’s ugly, it’s SOOOOO ugly and, as I said, it’s a novelty item. This sort of item was NEVER meant to be a timeless shoe, it was NEVER expected to be eaten up by the masses. The brand knew it would be coveted by a few very rich women and ogled by the rest in ads. So, I just can’t get its appeal, both to any woman who would buy it and any woman who would want to buy it. It’s ugly. It was meant as a conceptual piece, probably, to be displayed with the collection. So, I just don’t get it….wanting that shoe, is like wanting the odd masks or the stilts they wore in shows last year…they’re oddities meant to draw attention IMO.
Now, the shoe boot, I LOVE IT. I absolutely WOULD spend every cent of the $1650 for it, if I wore leather. I would buy the knock off too, if I wore leather. That shoe, I get. The other is just fodder for runway shows…and the few poor souls who will actually buy things because they mean spending exorbitant amounts like celebrities.

People would follow anything because a celebrity. No thank you. Please, if your gonna get these, fake or not, make sure the rest the rest of you match. I hate to see broke down females thinking they can pull these things off. Celebrities have stylist. You can not get these looks from Jamaica Ave, Fordam RD, or Canal Street. Well maybe Canal Street, lol. But they don’t look good.

Serioiusly, if you want to drop almost $5K on some shoes, you need to already have a house. I didn’t even pay that on the down payment on my house. Anybody who desires these shoes should NOT be renting and should have a really nice investment portfolio.

I’m sorry, but not everyone who likes the shoes, only like them because Beyonce wore them….I’m far from the Beyonce stan, so I could care less that she rocked those shoes. I want to get the shoe from Bakers because I like the damn shoe. Not everyone on here is so shallow and caught up in celeb lifestyle. If you look in my closet, the majority of my shoes are very unique-looking like those Balenciaga sandals…just not at Balenciaga prices. Really….stop generalizing folks, because not everyone wants those shoes for the same reasons. I could’ve seen a plain jane wearing those shoes at the damn club, and I would’ve still asked her where she got them.

I wouldn’t spend my hard earned on either pair to be honest. When you look at the money involved you’re talking rent, car payments, holidays, a couple months of food for some people. I can afford that, but for shoes that’ll go out of style next season? No way in hell. We all need to get our prioroties straight if this is what matters.

I agree with many of the other posters who say if you can afford some shoes for 4grand I surely hope you own a house and a car and have a great job with some investments. If not it shows where your true priorities are and that’s sad. I find it amazing how you will find some of the best and most expensive cars parked in the projects parking lots.

Maybe your feelings or excitement got caught in that sentence because I hope you really don’t feel that way. Women with those ends that because some of the leading ladies in finances wouldn’t waste their money on that or down other women, but help them get to that point. I rather continue paying my mortgage which is less than that. To say something about your man getting it for you shows these young teens that they should be some type of gold diggers or somethin. I’m sure you are a grown woman so set good examples for the youth.

LOL I just had to comment on 122’s comment…
I’m not bashing you but your comment about Tianna needing to take a decent journalism course made me think…..
Alot of these “bloggers” have no experience in journalism. It’s so easy to create a site and either talk shit or just commentate on this or that. True journalists know about being ethical and will display their commentary in such a manner. A journalist just can’t talk out of their ass and not think about if they’re offending their readers. That is VERY important but as I’ve stated, if you’re not a journalist, chances are you don’t know about the importance of ethics…
I’m just saying….
Anyhow…
As I’ve stated before both shoes are a hot ugly ass mess. I would NEVER spend that kind of money on ANY pair of shoes even if I had the means, I’m sorry that’s just insane to me. The people who are so concerned about what celebs are wearing (and are trying their best to keep up with what’s in style) need to realize that half of the lavish shit they wear are GIVEN to them by designers just because..well…they got it like that. Don’t be fooled….
