J. Hud all the way!!!! Girl has shown she ain’t no lucky star. Now that’s what I am talking about. Pure talent that needed to be given a chance and damn she has proven beyond doubt that she can be one of the best around unlike some others (not gonna mention but y’all know yourselves).

Before people start dropping negative comments about how this sounds too theater….This song was written specifically for the film, it WILL NOT be on her debut album! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE her voice in this song (nobody is fucking with her vocals AT ALL)!

Ok this is a soundtrack song. Everybody says they like it, but the question is will something like this get radio airplay or be bought by the masses. I dont think so. I love her so much, but I cant see her fitting into the commercial music industry.

Okay, I like it. It’s a “feel good” kind of song. DAMN…I can’t wait for the movie, I got hype when I first saw the commercial.

But who cares about radio airplay and shit. It’s a soundtrack song, it isn’t her actual debut album single. Calm down. And I’m sure people will buy the soundtrack based on other artists featured on it also, not just based on this one song.

I LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!! CUZ IM IN LOOOOOVE!! ALL DRESSED UP IN LOOOOOVE!!!

She has THAT type of voice?! What would you rather her do?!??!?!?! I mean, her voice is just BIG…PERIOD! This type of music FITS her…

it would be foolish of her to try the bubble gum “pop” music…

This song has that old school feeling with a contemporary twist. Its def a feel good type of song, and I think she’s found her nitch. I mean, who else can pull of this kind of song? She sounds great! One of the greater voices out! Seriously!!!

For those who say its too “Dreamgirls”…. lol. come on….

I wonder if ya girl Rhianna could pull of this song……. RIGHT!

Come on y’all! J. Hud did a way better job than Fergie. As for the song being too “theatre”, New York is known for Broadway. Jennifer can do no wrong in my eyes.

im all the way for J Hud but I hate this song….her voice is great but the beat is toooo dreamgirls-ish….too Donna Summer like…I am glad this is a soundtrack song and I PRAY its not gonna be on her album cause this shit is for the birds……….Keep doing ya thing thought J Hud!

26.

Yes it is a theater song, and sort of reminds you of Effie in Dreamgirls, but is that a bad thing? I mean I’m only 23 and love classic R&B I think it needs to make a comeback starting with J-Hud and Fantasia.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

Sounds like an Old Navy commercial to me…lol..not feelin it.

She is really going to have a hard time separating herself from the Effie White character. Hell even artists with commercial appeal can barely sell albums (which is why we have all these rereleases). Everybody keeps saying she doesn’t have to make songs to appeal to the radio when in reality she does. I just can’t see where she would fit in except for those “And I Am Telling You” knockoffs. Of course there will be a little hype surounding her music at first but then it will wear off…just my opinion. There is no doubt that the girl is an Oscar winner and can blow though…unfortunately thats not even enough in the industry today

Awwwwwwwwww stop hatin! Real talk

These is a soundtrack song and trust me, this soundtrack wont need to sell because this movie will make 100s of millions in the box office…. I think this song will flow well with the ending of the movie which is sure to have everybody feeling good about themselves…

Lovvvvvvveeeeee it. Her voice is unbeatable. Hate the song if you want, but nobody can deny that her voice is spectacular. She sounds “broadwayish” as some people say because before idol she was a singer for cruisliners for years. Anyways this song is great for a soundtrack and I think it will get much play on the R&B soul stations. People always seem to think that being mainstream means being played on only the pop stations ummm no. Anyways I read she’s working with A. Keys and India Arie on her album so I’m sure it will be a great thing for her. People uplift instead of being so quick to downgrade her because she is not the typical female artist. Much luck J. Hud

Lady Architect

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

lolol@ sounds too effie white. Did people forget that she played Effie White and that was her voice? People let Effie White go like yall did with the rest of the characters. Let dreamgirls go that movie is nearly 2years old.

33.

ShayNique

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

Again…this is not HER official first single, it is for the movie. So you cannot listen to this and determine whether or not her actual album will sell, or if she’ll be mainstream. We have no idea what direction she’ll be taking (as far as sound goes) when HER actual cd comes out. Determine that when album songs start leaking, not based off of a soundtrack single.

ALSO produced by Jack Splash…

Just my opinion.

So now people are gonna hate on a woman who undeniably has one of the best voices of our generation?

The song isnt as great as I expected; but theres no denying that this woman can SANG! Her voice is phenomenal and unlike 99.9% of other contemporary “singers” she can sing.

And to the person who said its too Donna Summer sounding; wtf Donna is a legend, shes queen of disco music so whats wrong with sounding a little like Donna S?

@39 it sounds nothing like Estell cee-lo song IMO;

So if someone can sing really well theyre not commerical and wont sell? Its ridiculous what the music industry has become. Back in the day a voice like Jhud’s would be sooo apealling and marketable.

Its a soundtrack song so of course its gonna sound like….a soundtrack song DUH

Juicy,
You’re so on point with your comment. The music industry nowadays is concerned about the best studio beat, shaking your behinds, cursing, and sex. Yup that pretty much sums it up there.

I WANT TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING TO ALL OF YOU DEAF SHIT IN THE EARS MUTHA FUCKAS. J HUD IS AN ARTIST THAT WILL BE AROUND FOR YEARS TO COME. SHE IS NO FLY BY NIGHT HERE TODAY GONE TODAY TYPE OF ARTIST. SHE HAS A TRUE GOD GIVEN TALENT AND IT WILL TAKE HER FAR UNLIKE THE FAST FOOD PROCESSED ARTIST YOU GUYS SEEM TO THINK ARE SO GREAT BECAUSE THEY SELL RECORDS. PEOPLE ARE BUYING NOTHING BUT SHIT THESE DAYS AND IT’S BECAUSE THAT’S ALL THEY ARE OFFERED. THESE ARTISTS WOULDN’T HAVE EVEN MADE IT THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR OF A RECORD LABEL BACK IN THE DAY WITH THE BULLSHIT THEY ARE PUTTING OUT. J HUD WOULD HAVE BEEN WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS. SO KEEP ON LISTENING AND SUPPORTING YOUR RINGTONE BULLSHIT MUSIC. REAL MUSIC WILL MAKE A RESSURECTION ONE DAY AND ALL OF YOUR RINGTONE ONE HIT WONDERS WILL BE ON VH1′S WHERE ARE THEY NOW.

Jennifer Hudson is definitely a good singer. Unfortunately, her style of singing is non-existent in today’s commercial music industry. If you are not rapping about silly things, have a pretty face, shaking your booty and singing about nothing, the record companies won’t even promote your material. The state of music has really gone to the dogs.

I like the song. Her voice is timeless. And as soooo many other people have said, it is JUST for a soundtrack. If her album drops in September, we won’t hear the real deal ’til August. (All of those that know the music business get where I’m coming from). And while many of yall talking about she needs to be more mainstream, that’s the same thing they said about Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Nora Jones. They’re respective generes weren’t “poppin”, esp. Nora’s, but look how their actual MUSIC and ARTISTRY got them so successful. They’re not packaged items or puppets who sell their SOULS to get fame, and trust, there’s a lot of those.

Anyone who compares Jen to old skool R&B - that is a major complement. I don’t care what anyone says, you can’t beat old skool R&B talent (my opinion) so to compare her to Donna Summer is a complement to Jen. It goes to show you how the music industry has been so watered down and the crap they pass off as music today is shameful. I’ve read that A. Keys and Mary J.’s inspiration have been old skool singers like Patrice Rushen, etc.

57.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

it sounds old school to me and i mean that in a GOOD way.
i mean ashanti’s song is cute for what ashanti does.
but if keyshia cole is representative of the best voice of this generation…R&B is dead.
i mean she’ll get there, but right now all that love uh, love uh, love uh whininess is sickening and i actually think she does have some talent.
but to compare either to this chick who’s got a badundadunk voice compared to those pancake ass girls.(well, i give keyshia little onion booty in this analogy)…is not even fair…..
SMH at myself…been hanging around hip-hop too long LOL!

Ok, while listening to this song, I felt like I was at Carnegie Hall at a Broadway show. This song is great for Broadway, but for rotation radio play- I dont know. She sounds good and I like the song, but I dont know if people are gonna take her serious as an R&B artist. This song does sound too much like Dreamgirls and her voice is big, but she could start her songs off more relaxed and smooth then build up with that powerful voice.

I’m nervous for her if this is the debut song for her new CD.

Naturally she is going to sounds like effie white, HELLO SHE GAVE VOICE TO THE PART… Anyhoo,

She has a very Big voice and I certainly will not deny she has more talent than most.

I can see how this would fit a soundtrack.

It a bit much for my taste of songs I like to bump but Wish her nothing but success.

I can see she is doing just fine though and does not need my wishes.

This reminds me of that CLASSIC R&B my momma used to listen to in the late 70’s. Absolutely beautiful vocals. I’ve read all the comments and I just have to wonder where our society is going musically.

Like Steve Harvey said, music back in the day used to leave something to the imagination. Nowadays, we are too used to explicit lyrics and studio-enhanced vocals that we can’t appreciate good music when we hear it…

Good Job, J Hud!

Thanks #71 some people either can’t read or must be unaware that this song is for a MOVIE!!!!!!!!! As far her album this is what I got from another site *ossip:
Jennifer Hudson has recruited India.Arie and Alicia Keys as mentors as she plans to embark on a pop career. The Oscar winner and former American Idol favorite hopes to release her first album after her new film Sex & The City hits cinemas next month (Jun08) and she has turned to two peers for advice. “I didn’t realize the process would be so long. I’m discovering it as I go along. “Alicia Keys was one of the people who talked to me about it. I wanted to make sure it was OK because it’s taking so long. “She told me it took her at least a year to record her album and that’s the process, so don’t worry about it.” And she turned to Arie when she needed a big hit on the album: “Greatest Creation, which Indie.Arie wrote, is where I see myself and where I’d like to see myself, in saying that my greatest creation is me.” Hudson will release the album in September (08), admitting “I haven’t named it yet.”
