♫ NEWS ROUNDUP: NAS CHANGES ALBUM TITLE / NE-YO STARTS BLOG / J.HUD SPEAKS ON NEW ALBUM / FOXY BROWN Devastated BY NEW ALBUM
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
A representative for Def Jam has confirmed that Nas has decided to change the title of his highly anticipated new album from Nigger to Nas. But in a statement released Monday, Nas clarified that he considers his new album untitled, adding:
“It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans. It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.” [SOURCE]

NE-YO’S ALBUM PUSHED BACK / STARTS NEW BLOG
Currently on tour with Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo recently found out that his third album with Def Jam has been pushed back. Scheduled for June 24th, Year Of The Gentleman has been pushed back to August 5th and will feature production from Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Stargate, and J.R. Rotem.
“I wanted the third album to be something a little different from the first and second as far as the essence and the sound of what I was doing,” Ne-Yo said.
To keep fans updated while his album is being made, Ne-Yo recently started a new blog that can be found on yearofthegentleman.com
MORE INFO ON J.HUD’S NEW ALBUM
Jennifer Hudson released her long-awaited single “Spotlight,” last week. “Spotlight” is the official first single from her self-titled debut album, set for release in September on Arista Records.
Written and co-produced by Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate, “Spotlight,” which addresses insecurities within a relationship, is one of many stellar songs which showcases Hudson’s amazing powerhouse vocals. J. Hud worked with a whole list of writers and producers including: Timbaland, Robin Thicke, The Underdogs, Diane Warren, Tricky Stewart and more.
“I’m beyond ecstatic about my new album,” says Hudson. “I think people will be pleasantly surprised, because it shows a side of my work that no one has heard before. This album has a huge variety of sounds and one of my favorite songs is ‘Spotlight’ because it has this great infectious groove. This is completely new territory for me and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer, SonyBMG Worldwide states: “With Jennifer’s debut album we will be introducing a major new recording star. She takes on every genre of music and makes each her own. She’s pure and simple a great natural talent and her album will very excitingly reflect that.”
FOXY Devastated BY NEW ALBUM
Foxy Brown’s latest LP in 7 years (Brooklyn’s Don Diva) was set to be released this month. But instead of releasing the album, Foxy wants to change it up a bit. She claims that she heard the end result of her album when she released from prison and was devastated:
BROOKLYN’S DON DIVA”, MY HIGHLY ANTICIPATED STREET ALBUM WHICH HIT STORES TUESDAY, IS, AS IT WAS ALWAYS INTENDED TO BE, A MIXTAPE STREET ALBUM - THE WARM-UP TO MY LONG-AWAITED, EPIC, 4TH STUDIO ALBUM “BLACK ROSES”.
UNFORTUNATELY, DURING MY INCARCERATION, THIS CD WAS COMPILED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL. I HEARD THIS CD IN ITS ENTIRETY FOR THE FIRST TIME JUST DAYS AGO AND WAS DEVASTATED. RIDDLED WITH GRIEF OVER AN ALBUM THAT WAS SEEMINGLY SO CARELESSLY ORCHESTRATED, I SAT DOWN WITH THE PRESIDENT OF KOCH TO COME TO A DECISION ON HOW TO MAKE THE BEST OF THIS SITUATION. IN ANOTHER PHASE OF MY LIFE AND CAREER I WOULD HAVE DEALT WITH THIS SITUATION WITH LITIGATION, BUT FOR THE BENEFIT OF MY FANS AND IN THE WAKE OF THE PROFOUND SPIRITUAL CLEANSING I RECENTLY UNDERWENT IN PRISON, I MADE THE DECISION TO SETTLE OUR CREATIVE DIFFERENCES AMICABLY. MY FANS HAVE WAITED 7 YEARS FOR AN IN-STORE RELEASE AND DESERVE MY VERY BEST.

I feel Nas’s comments. That new single is soo sick. You have to really listen to the lyrics. As always, he’s really saying something.

Nas finally saw the light? Hated the new single, even though I got his point most people won’t because it will fall in mostly ignorant hears.
I can’t wait for Jennifer Hudson’s album, I’m digging spotlight.

I think it was a good idea for Nas to change his album title b/c many of us wasn’t keen on the idea of his choice of titles. Although I tried to be open-minded about it at first, but in the end the n-word still carries a bit of a harsh undertone. I respect him for his choice and hope to hear his messages he puts out to the world.
Feeling NeYo joint, Just Be. Not too many r&b cats really repping nowadays.

I’m glad Nas isn’t a complete idiot. With the music industry the way it is now, an artist can’t afford to ostracize a demographic they are trying to sell to. Having the original title would have confused and angered many more ppl than it would have inspired. We all witnessed the reaction he and Kelis got at the Grammy awards this year when they showed up with the “N” word shirts. Though I applaud him for trying to stir up thought and get a reaction out of listeners, he might have gone a little too far with it, and ultimately, had he stuck with the title, cd sales would have suffered

I’m rooting for Foxy…all the good female mc’s have left the building and have ceased to bring it (ie. Trina, Eve, Kim, and of course we all know what is going on with Remy). Foxy might end up being the last one standing (other than Missy) if she plays her cards right and strikes while the iron is hot

I feel sorta bad for Foxy Brown. Although, I think she really needs to step it up, she can’t do it alone! She needs better promotion, and a change in her creative approach. She’s been posing half nude, in front of cars, with an angry face for years. I think its time to change!

hmm @ Nas! He held out a long time but still buckled…. not sure how I feel about it, but I still can’t wait to hear the album…
I guess that’s why he made the decision so his work can hit the streets! Had his paper been longer and had he been more respected as an artist the name of his long awaited album wouldn’t have been an industry issue. They may have released it and let things hit the fan and then changed it but it def would have been released without leaking the name either. It’s all corporate politics….

Foxy has always been the better MC when Compared to her peers. period. As a fan I was dissapointed by the tracks I heard. I know she has the potential to bring a HIT Album out. She should clearly be enjoying mainstream success- Be Patient Fox it will happen!
I really would like to know whats this new facination with dropping albums MONTHS after the first single-WHEN the Momentum has died….WHAT IS THAT? Record Labels get on your JOB!
Get it JHUD!!!!! NAS-Thank YOU and YOUR WELCOME for coming to your senses! SMH!

I really wonder why Nas decided to change the name. I love Nas because he’s one of tthe few rappers in the game that actually has something to say, plus he’s a legend. I will support him regardless of the name switch but I wonder what prompted him to do so. I love Ne-Yo! He isn’t the sexiest but he’s talented. I’m also loving these celebrities and their blogs. It’s a dope idea! I never was a Foxy Brown fan so I wasn’t counting down the days til her new album came out. I wasn’t really impressed w/ J.Hud’s “Spotlight” I just wasn’t. Hopefully she releases something hotter.

NasNas people must have put the heat on him. Think about the t-shirts that would say n*gger. What if a white boy was wearing it? How would that make any black person feel. He needs to be mature in the words he choses and how to express himself. Many people outside of the US can make light of the word.

While I thought the name of the album was a bit too controversial, I would have more respect for Nas if he stood up against the system and kept the title. Artists these days never want to stick their necks out for anything out of fear of being blacklisted. I thought Nas was different but apparently he’s not.

I am so glad that they changed the title to Nas’ album. I am sure that the general point he was trying to make can still be made without such a vulgar title. Nas you could have done a lot of damage with that title and I can almost guarantee that it would not have been good. I have been a long time admirer of your music and style, but I totally disagreed with the latest project. Not what you were trying to do, but how you were doing it.

People looked forward to Ne-Yo’s crap and want to hear J=HUd but ostracize NAS? he is a pioneer who raps poignantly about what we as black people go throught. What good is closer and spotlight? when we are psychologically messed up. Too many club records nothing thought provoking and when someone wants to do a thought provoking record like crabs in a barrell we pull them down to earth with our fears and misconceptions. I wish NAs hadn’t changes the title but I will buy it regardless.

As for Foxy, I have been a fan for YEARS and I waited for this album to drop……well on Sunday I read her statement somewhere, I’m not gone tell you that I took it right back to the store. If she is not in suppport of her own material, why should I……glad I hadn’t opened that shit yet.

can’t no good luck come of this ignorant pc of garbage. he telling the same people who made a path for him marching and the ones who lost their lives to stay out of it, the word takes on a new meaning now. well nas why don’t you hip-hop your ass down to the racist south and live. and i’am not talking a reality show either. you wouldn’t be able to handle them red-necks in the deep south. you jive turkey you are a weak persaon to me who trys to come off as a hard gangster rapper, you fool no one. your n word project is like you PATHETIC. and another thing you say italians, whites asians, lateeno’s you say we are all n-a’s YOU ARE OUT YOUR F”N” MIND. have you heard of the blk/brn divide lateeno’s can’t stand you nor can asians[10 reasons why i hate blacks] have you even read that article. and white people shit you just keep livin these same white folks if they had any sense would drop you from their record label. the majority of whites can’t stand you. and last but not least italians you haven’t got a prayer w/ them people who run the mafia. you are a joke in their eyes and if they can’t get a dollar out you you’re no good to them. so i find your project guilty of hate crimes on your black race. you are the version of a ni33ar HITLER. FREE SPEECH think about the people who died for your right to DESCREATE THEM . you pathetic joke you and the record company who puts out that project ain’t sh** . now this is from a old school bro who lived the racism in the 60’s. and now . you and anybody who listen and likes that mess you put out need to go south oh i forgot your parents hi-tailed it up north to new york. i wander why n*****

WOW #51 needs to calm the f down! Nas was trying to do something good for the community, to lessen the blow that the word usually has, to desensitize it in a sense i guess. Yea not every race can be called n’s but still you come off as the one that’s racist. Nas ain’t gonna read this anyway and if he does it wont faze him that much i’m sure, he’s smarter than you may think so stop ramblin and actually put some thought into what you’re saying and get your facts str8. And for god sakes USE PUNCTUATION!!!
