♫ ALBUM REVIEW: USHER - HERE I STAND

♫ Album Review: Usher - Here I Stand ♫
After 4 years, Usher finally emerges from the success of Confessions, as well as a new marriage and his first born child, to release a brand new album, titled Here I Stand, which hits stores this Tuesday.
I have to admit, there had been a few tracks to leak, but not to severely peek my interest. My initial thoughts were that Usher and his label were stalling because he was unable to come up with some material that could trump the hugely successful Confessions, which was covered in controversy (he and Chilli had a very public relationship, not to mention break-up) and littered with bunches of wonderful material. Then, a Rich Harrison-produced track, featuring one of Usher’s favorite collaborators, Ludacris surfaced and my confidence was restored, however I was let down when I found out the song would not be the first single, and later that it wouldn’t even appear on the album.
It took me a minute to become acquainted with Usher’s first single choice, the Polow Da Don-produced and Jeezy-featured, “♫ Love In This Club,” but I soon caught on, especially after the remix, featuring Beyonce and fan favorite, Lil’ Wayne. The flame of interest was rekindled and songs started to leak.
Honestly, I wasn’t impressed at first - but the album grew on me as I listened more. Here I Stand is actually a pretty solid effort in its entirety, considering the success and greatness of Confessions, tapping producers Bryan-Michael Cox, Dre & Vidal, Danjahandz, Stargate and Jermaine Dupri to helm most of the project. With cameos from Jay-Z, Young Jeezy and Will.I.Am, to name a few, the new album has its moments where vocally and musically, I’m brought back to Confessions (check out “Trading Places” and the Jay-Z featured “Best Thing”). Stand-out tracks include the afore mentioned, as well as the Danja-produced “Appetite.”
Check out Usher on MySpace and make sure you pick up your copy of his new album, Here I Stand on the 27th of May!

The album itself isnt cohesive and is too slow….there are a few jams but Confessions was WAY better!

I’m surprised at how bad it sucks. I’m not a big Usher fan but have never been able to deny when an artist does GREAT work and Confessions was just that, GREAT WORK. This album seems poorly directed and composed. For someone who essentially corners the R&B and pop market I expected more.

I grew up with Usher & a die hard fan I couldn’t wait to here the cd.
The cd is great to me and I listened to it on Sat at work. My faves are Here I Stand, Moving Mountains, His Mistakes, Appetite,Best Thing, Love You Gently, Trading Places. Basically the whole cd I know people will compare it to Confessions and it is hard to follow up a SMASH cd like that but Here I Stand is a great body of work. There is a whole lot of Tameka loving on it but what was he going to talk about. I will be buying it on Tues.

Well I always stood by my opinion that 8701 was better than Confessions, just ever so slightly.
Not wholly impressed with this one, but might let it grow on me.
You’d think Usher=A shoe-in for R&B album of the year, but this one really misses that, and espeically when u got other cats bringin out better records.

This album is very disappointing. It’s just ok, I expected so much more considering all the time that was taken off. Well, now I’m left anxiously awaiting Ashanti’s comeback and I don’t think she’s going to let me down!

I believe this album signifies Usher’s maturity and growth in the past couple of years. He is a different man, more grown-up, and this album reflects that. Whether or not he left his “My Way”/”Caught Up” creative and fun-loving days in the past is in question.
I miss his exciting tracks … this is a nice album, but not a classic, esp. compared to his earlier bodies of work.

As much as he would like to ignore the reality, Usher is not on game. He’s fallen and can’t get up! First of all, he needs to acknowledge the fact that his choices in life (namely dropping his mom and marrying “that woman”) have had a negative effect on his career. He has alienated his fan base and it shows. He needs a serious media makeover and if that involves getting rid of “that woman” then so be it! Either you’re going to be a laughing stock or a star Ursh, you make the choice!
Until you get some things straightened out on the home front, you can officially count me out as a fan! I never was that crazy about him but his antics and disloyalty to his family was the straw for me! He made beautiful music with Chili and his mom by his side. Now he’s making bullshit with a bull dagger for a wife. Damn shame….

I am a Usher fan but I’m just can’t buy this CD. I’m not feeling the passion and intensity in his voice. These songs are not his vibe. I do commend him for trying something different but this wasn’t it in my opinion. Confessions was a solid effort all the way around. I really feel this new CD is his worse. Still love him, but not feeling Here I Stand…

I am so disappointed with this album. I wasn’t a big fan of Usher’s music before confessions and now I’m not once again. I was really looking forward to buying this album but now it looks like I’m headed straight to the bootleg spot. He better step his game back up before Chris Brown takes his spot.

I like the album but I don’t love it…its hella slow and although I love his love songs I didn’t expect fir the whole cd to be full of them. At least its true to his life b/c he is a husband and father now. Its just not the Usher we know and love. I love appetite, love you gently and what’s a man to do…appetite would be a hot 3rd single. Its a good album but Confessions was great.

People aren’t feeling Usher this time around or his music because they’ve got some sort of psychotic grudge against his “ugly” wife. It’s ridiculous. Wasn’t the lead single to Confessions, “Yeah”? I’d like someone to explain to me how that’s somehow different than “Love in this Club.” And how all 99 versions of the song “Confessions” differs from “Moving Mountains”? This is the same Usher…the only thing that has been introduced into the equation is Tameka and she is indeed why you’re all hating on the man.

I love Usher to death but the singles I’ve heard are really disappointing. I fell asleep during trading places. I seriously think his personal life is really interfering with his music life. I was still going to get the album but when I went on Amazon to review the snippets, I was dreadfully disappointed, I’ve never had to put myself in a predicament where I would have to question Ushers’ album. i guess I’ll look forward to Ashanti’s album.

Something does seem a little off about his music. I could care less about his personal but I’m not feeling the passion anymore. I like “Moving Mountains” but I’m not buying the whole album after reading all these reviews from die hard fans that claim the album isn’t up to their standards, and I’m not even a diehard fan myself. Maybe I’ll just purchase some singles from Itunes. I refuse to pay for a whole album that isn’t anything less than a classic and I’m not going to wait to download a mediocre album for free either.

#22 even if that is the truth, it plays a main factor in his career. No one is hating…I honestly believe people have lost interests because of the way he handled his personal life. Calling people haters, and lefting his mother has turned some fans completely off. Now he is facing the backlash. It’s sad, it really is. But it’s truth and you can’t misinterpret that for hating. Now after all that he knew himself he would probably face this issue it will more than likely show in record sales. Plus he is not sexy symbol for alot of young women, especially when they see him in pics…she is always there. It’s like he has a watch dog LOL
I was never a real fan, but I do like 2 songs off the album. Best Thing and Moving Mountains, so yes I will be burning a copy =)

I think that this is a great album but lemme tell you why a lot of you are disappointed. The reason why most of you are disappointed is because you are comparing it to Confessions. Confessions has a whole different sound. Plus when he made Confessions he was single. Now he is married and lot of people can’t relate to that. I happen to be in a relationship and my girl and i are feeling album. So please if you can help it stop comparing Here I Stand to Confessions. You dont give the music chance if you are comparing it to a past project.

I don’t want to get started with the Alicia album, but I do agree his album will still sell, cause he’s Usher. This album seems like garbage compared to Confessions. What was he thinking. And for the in the club remix why put B on there when you already got someone as hot as Keri Hilson who I might add can also sing as well as be great eye candy on the song. I mean damn help boost her career B is getting old and I’m tired of hearing her and Lil Wayne’s voices. What the hell was he saying through that whole verse.
But I’ll give the album a shoot I didnt think Confessions was gonna be alll that great and boy was I wrong. But for this one I will have to try another method before I make that final purchase (Bootleg till the day I die!)

Stop letting his personal affairs mess with your love of his music. You don’t know him, his wife or any real accounts of the things going on in his life. Enjoy the new album for what it is.. I don’t care about Usher’s personal life like many of his upset fans but after having Confessions on my ipod for years and listening to this album I can’t say how dissapointed I am with the effort. The excuses about growing is irrelevant because the songs just aren’t that good.
The only songs I like are Trading Place, This Aint Sex, and Moving Mountains. The rest of them just don’t fit well with Usher. He sure does indirectly talk about his marriage alot which is kind of annoying. I know he’s trying to be more mature but is their a reason that he must talk about this repeatedly on the album?

Mind you, I haven’t heard it yet in its entirity, but I’m definetely going to pick it up when it drops tommorow. On another note, although I loved “Confessions,” “8701″ is still my favorite Usher record.
Let’s just stick to reviewing the music instead of his personal life. Yeah, I don’t like how he just up and fired his mother when she invested so much into his career, but then again I don’t know the whole story, so I can’t really judge.

I LOVE HIS CD!!!! Trading Places, Appetite, Moving Mountains, Echo, Love You Gently, Before I Met You… the lyrics are fire! His vocals are strong and this album is nothing like confessions. It’s about the man he’s become from the love he shares with his crazy wife. Like he said in one song “I made my confessions a long time ago”! And who ever said Chris Brown will take his spot is retarded. CB’s whiny vocals are NOTHING compared to Usher. And I like CB! But don’t hate!!!!!!

very poor review, more about the songs and less about the producers next time.
the cd is excellent, its a lot like confessions in that it wont grab you straight away, theres the obvious tracks that will, but on a whole you have to listen to it a few times to really get it,once you get it your hooked.
will work for love is a lovely song which he should release, not a typical usher song, not even a typical R&B song, but a song that could do big things.
appetite is another stand out track, another future single,a song that surprised me was the song featuring will i am,will hasnt really done it for me as a solo artist or on collabos, but the joint they have together is really good.
its a really good cd,if your an usher fan youll know that ushers cd`s are the sort of cd`s that grow, you dont listen to it and love it,but a few months later your done with it.
trust me,this cd will still be relevant in years to come, thats the measure of the man and his talent.

Hearing all of the responses from the CL’s makes me sad because I am a huge Usher fan! I went to his Confessions concert and that was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. He always has so much energy behind both his fast and slow songs and he’s a true entertainer. He’s likeability factor and sex appeal has greatly decreased since he married Tameka. Although this is an aspect of his personal life, he’s a celebrity and his marriage will be discussed. I really, really wish he would’ve came w/ the heat because so many of his fans are dissappointed.

@wess boogie i disagree. his album didn’t work b/c he wasn’t trying to be like robin and justin. i love usher but he needs to do something different. mainstream r&b imo has gotten so stale and usher fell into the trap. confessions was an amazing album and he let me down w/ this one. “love in this club” basically reminded me of the whole “yeah”/atl time period where everyone was doing the same beat. confessions was more of a robin thicke album as shown by “can you handle it” which was written by robin. i can’t stand justin but usher needs to learn from him. justin went straight to timb and said give me something futuristic, timb delivered, and now we have the sexlovesounds album. usher needs to find a way to keep his sound but update it

I have never liked Usher as anything but an artist. Outside of music, I don’t care for him as a person so his personal life has always been irrelevant. I don’t love any of his previous works, I just love the singles releases off of those albums along with “Can You Handle It” and “Dot Com.”
This CD, I hate every single song. I feel nothing from them at all. He does not show growth, he shows mediocrity. There are a lot of grown men and women releasing albums that show maturity, Usher is not one of them. The songs he is singing could be sung by an 18 yr old with half the life experiences and still make the same impact on me as Usher.
And to those who claim just because someone thinks his albums is crap we must hate Tameka. PLEASE. I do not waste energy on people who have no relevancy to my life. Usher is not something I have ever lust after, I don’t find him attractive at all. His music made me a fan. Amy Winehouse is screwed up but I will rock her CD like it is going out of style. The difference: her CD is actually good. Usher’s is garbage.

Rocognize talent. Do yall realize usher was Chris Brown’s age when he recorded My Way. He had way more talent than chris has. Yall make me laugh when yall call chris the next MJ. Yall stupid.

This is my opinion and no one has to agree with me. But do not insult me just because I happen to disagree. Usher does not pay my bills, did not raise me, he has to earn my respect, loyalty and support. For me, this CD is not hitting on anything. He does not need my money and I do not have any to waste on mediocrity.

Contrary to what most are saying,
I’m excited about this and I think from the tracks I’ve heard [excluding "Love In This Club"] this album shows maturity. The content is definitely a step up from the position in life he once was in.
He’s older and more mature [wiser?] now and you can tell.
Usher’s back! I’m truly excited about this.
And I’m not even an Usher stan!…. yet

I must agree with the review.. The two songs trading places and best thing..Are really great tracks on the album. If we continue to compare it with confessions it will always come in second. Confessions was just an overall great album and it had great hype to go along with it. At first I was thinking he created this album in a rush to appease his fans. However the more I listen to the music I realize he is singing songs that are more of what place he’s in right now. If you listen to the tracks only two or three really lend to what he did in the past and the rest is new material for a new Usher. As a Usher fan I would love it to have been what we all expected it to be more of the same Usher we are use to. I think that “That Usher” is somewhat suppressed now that he is a Husband and Father. I Like the Album for what it represents…Change.

I am addicted to Confessions but I was shocked when Usher came out with his first single for the new album. What the f*ck? Usher ’s music is usually way more classy and more mature. DId he forget his audience? Mostly women? I want to hear some REAL music from Usher and not the same ole tired repetitive stuff you get on the radio everyday. I will try to listen to his other singles but so far I am not impressed… I still love me some Usher though.

Secondly, Stop hating on that man cause he chose his wife as he should have over his manager whom happens to be his momma…If he would have chosen his momma we would have been calling him a momma’s boy..That man has done so much in his career and personal life we should be proud that he representing so well and not out here with a drug habit, committing crimes, spousal abuse etc. If the worst thing we can say is he chose a wife and his album is okay…I think that’s damn good!!…Let’s Be real!!

In no way can you compare Confessions to Ushers latest effort ” Here I Stand”.. I was never really an Usher fan UNITL Confessions but because of that album i took in his previous work 8701 ECT.. He is an ENTERTAINER and a good one at that.. This album shows GROWTH and Maturity.. he has some banging tracks on the album YES.. his best effort NO…However it is still a good album.. You cant bash his album juss becuase of his personal life.. That is not fair to him has an artist nor as a HUMAN BEING.. its his life allow him to live it.. Base ur opinions on the quality of the music.. NOT ON his personal life!
Tracks that caught my attention…: HIS MISTAKES.. ( FULL BLAST .. I ONLY PLAY THIS TUNE ON FULL BLAST ) BIGG TRACK

The CD is okay. Like they said you will have to listen to it a few times for it to grow on you. I understand that he is happily married but do you have to talk about in almost every song. Damn Usher we get it you are in love with your wife and you are done with your ho-ish ways. My favorite songs are Trading Places, Best Thing and Love you gently (its like a can you handle it pt 2 from Confessions). Not as good as Confessions but that is going to be something hard to top. Nice try Ursher

As much as people are putting his personal life into this…it has nothing to do with it. The point is, the music just isn’t that great. The highlight of Confessions were tracks by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They aren’t here. The album is poorly ordered, with conflicting themes in conflicting order. In the end, I just don’t understand. Very well written tracks, but all of these tracks on one album is just a playlist of confusion.

Monday, May 26, 2008 /
OK first off, I listened to th album three times and I’m just not feeling it. It has NOTHING to do with his personal life and who he married I really couldn’t care what he did in his personal life the songs on the album are just not that good. The album is too slow and too long, it’s about to be summer, he needed to come out with something that fits the summer time, something up tempo, that we would want to ride around in our car with the windows down blasting, not something slow and depressing. As I said the songs aren’t good it has nothing to do with his wife.
Also for the people saying that we can’t compare it to Confessions: I partly agree, we can’t compare the message because there are different messages on both albums, but as far as sound and songs we can compare and Here I Stand isn’t as good as Confessions when it comes to the sound and the quality of songs.

it’s not about him being married (to the ppl who think that every bad review is based on dislike for his personal life). I don’t care what he does in his personal life. this album just isn’t up to the Usher-standard. maybe i put the bar too high for him. honestly, i expect nothing but greatness from him and this album isn’t great. that’s why ppl are trashing the album. and for ppl who don’t like the album just b/c of his wife, you need to find someone for you and get out of this man’s life. and can i just say (adding on to the justin thing) i’m not only upset at usher for not making a great album, but i’m upset at him for letting justin beat him. he is more talented than justin vocally and dance-wise but justin is more of a risk-taker and that’s something usher needs to learn from.

I just listened to Usher’s album on MTV leaked and it was a serious disappointment. Maturity doesn’t equal 10 slow ballads and 1 club banger (Love in da club) which by the way is already played out. The song with Will I Am is a complete joke! I can’t see spending my money on this project.
Folks are saying that people are hating on his personal life, but I don’t think that’s true. The fact is, he hasn’t put out an album in 4 years and people expected him to BRING IT and he did not do that.
In my opinion, Usher F’d up when he fired his mom as his manager. Do you really think she would’ve allowed him to put out this type of garbage? She made sure his work was at 100%. He killed the formula that worked for him.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 /
Who cares if the album is slow or fast. Who cares about his personal life. To me, the songs are subpar, mediocre garbage. I don’t expect greatness from Usher because he is nowhere near great in my eyes.
Yes, he is better than a lot of people but that don’t speak well for others, not an endorsement for him. This is an album on the level of Omarion not someone who has brought it on three previous albums.
I understand he is now a father and husband, so the direction of his music has changed. Brian McKnight, Babyface, etc. were all married and divorced and still had quality songs and lyrics. Those two men are songwriters (different from Usher); however, despite their record sales have going down, they still show that maturity, growth and wisdom can have life instead of being dwindled down into meaningless, trite, bland lyrics to emphasize a point.
You are mature by your actions, simple lyrics with no feelings behind them won’t accomplish much.

The problem with this album is simply that it is too repetitive and one-dimensional. While Confessions was an overall theme of infidelity and all the problems that came forth with it, Here I Stand is largely an album full of the same message repeated: he is married. The songs themselves in my opinion are good, some I like better than others, however what keeps the album from being a great album is that these songs all follow one another and with an 18 number track list, it wears down on you.
To those, however, comparing it to Confessions. It IS the same formula. And to those that can’t see that you have to be some kind of blind as he seems to be a one-trick monkey. The release of Love In the Club is similar to that of Yeah, followed by the next ‘break-up’ single, Moving Mountains which is Confessions’ Burn.
Here I Stand is not an album for excitement by any means; it is an album you play before you go to bed or an album you place on for Sunday. It’s filled with slow jams which are not what you would expect from an Usher CD. Perhaps it is that fact that has left fans of his music generally confused. This is not the Usher that we are used to — this is someone different. And I think that is the point that he is trying to convey.
STAND-OUT TRACKS:
1.) Appetite: Tricky did this beat. It’s somewhat of a mid-tempoed song infused with a bit of hip hop. Here, Usher warns the homies to be careful of feeding their “appetite” of young women or they will lose their girl. (For people who love comparing this album to Confessions, this is the ‘Throwback’ of Here I Stand).
2.)Trading Places: Tricky & Dream once again pair up to give Usher a fun, radio-friendly single which plays with the idea of ’switching roles’ in the bedroom. Definitely for the young crowd. While a decent song, the second verse reminds me more of a carnal R. Kelly with it’s ridiculous lyrics and the way Ush sings ’strawburry or grape jellay’ left me in tears from laughter.
3.) Something Special: This song is simple with beautiful lyrics laced over an acoustic guitar. The perfect song that captures that ‘first love’ emotion.
4.) The Best Thing w/ Jay-Z: While the beat seems reminiscent of a song on a Tru Life mixtape, lyrically the song is on point and Jay coming through giving it his Midas touch makes it a great song. Jermaine Dupri produced this, and while there is a little more left to be desired on the production, it is still a great filler track made for cruising on a hot summer day or the background to perhaps an outside basketball game or family reunion.
5.) Lifetime: Produced by Usher’s little brother J-Lack, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It’s a smooth groove also meant for cruising. Usher’s voice is smooth and simple and without the Babyface whine reminiscent in the album’s second single, Moving Mountains (which, although beautifully written is still one of the worst songs I’ve heard what with the ‘Garage Band’ sounding music). ‘So come on, my mama and your mama want some grandbabies tonight. Would you, be with me for a lifetime?’ He asks. Perfect ‘wooing’ song for any man in love.
CONCLUSION: If you are looking for songs that come forth with a bunch of energy or to play at party, please look elsewhere unless you are feeling the lead single. This is a CD for “the lovers”, and unless you are in love or trying to get there, you may want to pass on Usher this time.
OVERALL GRADE: B-/C+

IT’s messed up that usher’s biggest album, might be the downfall to his career..Every album he drops from here on out will be compared to confessions..He’s never gonna be able to top that,n people shouldn’t expect them too…Some fans are so fly by night, that even if he did drop another confessions,in this day n age, people would find reason to dislike it based on what’s goin on in his personal life.
I feel sorry for the biz,cuz the fans have let alot of no talent ass artists get sum shine, and alot of the vets are starting to tire..There’s only a few people left even keeping R&B and Hip hop alive right now

Now i’m reading these comments but i’m a little taken aback because these people dont know music. He’s a 29 year old man, no longer a little boy/teen heart throb, he has grown man issues. so listen with a more mature mind and then you’ll appreciate the album a lot more. its another classic cd, but i will say its not a confessions but hey you cant judge with confessions. heart ache sales better than happiness in most cases. But the album as a whole is a great album. A album for young grown lovers, or newly married folks. Play and just make love!!!!!!!!!

I always liked Usher because he was like a black R&B/pop artist and I liked to dance to his music and it was catchy. I really haven’t liked his material off this album. I like the fact that he has matured a bit, because I still think some things like “love in this club” is one of his more immature songs. That’s just my personal opinion. I think what turns me off about this album is not the song content, but his inability to mature his voice. To me he’s still doing that whining stuff and stretching his voice. Now that I’m older and can compare his voice to how he use to sound…he still sounds the same with a voice that hasn’t grown range or trained skills. Real R&B I’m thinking of Musiq, Raheem Devaughn, Tyrese, Tank, Jaheim. Those artists Usher can’t play in the range of R&B with. That’s my opinion from an R&B lover.
Also people please leave his personal life out of this. It’s so wrong to talk about that woman like some do.

I’m so glad I’m not the only feeling this album. I heard it on the The Leak @ MTV. and it was painful. Usher is a great artist. I’m not sure which direction he was trying to make, but I wanted to hear more of his falsetto and I wanted to DANCE. The album in my opinion is not his best work- the songs don’t fit together and it seems forced material. Usher will sell at least 1 plus million copies when it’s all said and done but I will not be among the 1 million.

lol I have read majority of these comments and the defensive comments regarding this album cracked me up. Some say “you gotta be in a relationship to understand the album” and some say”y’all can’t relate to this album because he was single on the rest of his albums”LMAO. That’s bullshit. I was a fan of Usher’s for awhile.
“My Way” Usher was becoming a man and he was single and immature on that album. However he was young then. “8701″ and “Confessions” he was in a relationship with Chilli. So that arugment of us not liking this album because he was single then is not true. Oh yeah people not liking Usher’s album because of his new wife because she is dark skin and she is not hollywood beauty is false. If Tameka was beautiful and had a bad reputation before marrying Usher and having his baby people would’ve still hated her especially if she was a non black. Usher has always been opened and has always used his relationship to garner attention for his albums. Especially witrh “8701″ and “Confessions”. Which both dealth with Chilli. So people need to go on with their bullshit excuses on this terrible album. The production and writing was lazy and Usher was always on point with it. This time he slacked off and he took a 4 year hiatus from “Confessions” and it still was bad lol maybe next time Usher.

Well, it’s cool to me. I too, am lost in the negative comments from the same folks who supported Letoya Luckett (and then didn’t even buy the record.) I am also one of the ones shaking my head over the reverence for “Confessions.” Great CD, but not a classic joint for all time. I’d give R.Kelly more credit for that, if we’re talking R&B albums in the last ten years. Usher sounds like what he is - grown. Can’t he change it up? But given the source, I’d say it’s just like what Beyonce experienced on “B’Day.” CL folks hated the uptempo change-up and wanted her to make “DIL2.” But she still sold. I expect Usher will probably do the same. As with “B’Day” the album has also been well received by critics. But Soundscan will tell the tale!

Just the other day I was listenting more like jamm’in to “Confessions”, eager to here the new album. Sad to say I was not that impressed. I guess Usher is in a different point in his life and that’s cool, so I’ll give it another before I give it away.
P.S. It’s all the Man’s (Tameka) fault ! LMAO

I am a HUGE HUGE USHER fan and I have to say that this cd is just ok. There are a few songs that I like, for example Here I Stand is a really nice song, very heartwrenching and emotional. I will have to continue to listen to it to make it grow on me but it hasn’t just got me wrapped like Confessions did and I know artist try to do different thigs but really the cd is just ok. He’ll get hits off of it because he’s Usher and people love him. There is a lot of growth and maturity and you can tell that Tameka has really changed him. I’m glad he has someone to love but I just didn’t want to hear about it on just about every damn ballad on the cd. BUT, I still love me some Usher!

I GUESS I’LL HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE CD FOR MYSELF CAUSE MOST OF YALL ARE COMPARING THIS TO HIS PAST CD’S AND AS A ARTIST NONE OF THEM ARE NOT GOING TO SOUND THE SAME. HE CAME OUT WITH CONFESSIONS 4YEARS AGO. HE IS NOT IN THE SAME PLACE HE’S MARRIED AND HAS A SON.PEOPLE SAY SAY THE SAME ABOUT JAY-Z. THAT MAN IS 37 YEARS OLD HE’S NOT GOING TO RAPPING YOUNG DUMB$HIT ANYMORE. HE HAS MATURED AND YOU CAN HEAR THAT IN HIS LYRICS. BUT THAT GOES FOR ANY ARTIST. .

I LOVED,LOVED,LOVED confessions and its only natural to compare albums just like we compare sequals-its the same person so why not compare their music. its a natural human thing to do.
while i do read the gossip about artists it has nothing to do with whether or not i like their music-i too bumped amy whinehouse and bumped some of britneys tracks (even though the beats were better than the voice). the fact is that none of these songs do it for me. im going to take a listen to some of the other songs and see if they hit me differently but this album just isnt it.
people were talking like the game was gonna be up for all the other artists that rose while ush was outa the game. thats just not so.
he talked about artists “trying to be like him” *as if he is an original* but id much rather listen to their work.
when youre on point, youre on point. when youre not-YOURE NOT.
nothing personal, its business *or in this case, music*

ok,ok,ok. . .
its on my itunes and im going to take another (honest) listen to it.
usually, i know if im into a song after its played for a minute or less, hence my dissappointment with the songs ive heard thus far. sometimes you have to hear an album a couple times before you love it.
we will see what happens.

OMG, will ppl stop comparing this album to Confessions. Like someone said previously, He is a grown a** man. The album is good. I am so glad he hasn’t stooped to a Chris Brown, Omarion level. When he was their age the matrerial they sing about currently was appropriate. He’s married w/ kids now it’s time to grow the hell up!

I would call myself Usher’s BIGGEST fan! I’ve been riding with him since he came out when he was 14 years old! I love this album. Although I admit, I had to listen to it a few times for me to really vibe with it! Of course Confessions was a huge hit, the world loves to hear about your problems!!!! Now he’s in love and it’s proven all through out this album! This album to me is just as great as all the rest!
I AM USHER’S BIGGEST FAN!!!! GREAT WORK AGAIN MY BABY!

I watched Usher on 106 yesterday and he has really matured and so will his music. So what it’s not 8701 or confessions it’s not supposed to be people that’s called growth. Who wants to keep making the same thing over and over. He has got a good business head as well. Some people are just harsh and negative. I believe some of the feed back is beacuse he’s married to a woman that some people don’t like, like they know her personally. he’s married to the mother of his child and she isn’t your typical lightskinned or interracial girl. He loves her and hell with what negative people say. It’s just sad that most of this comes from black women. Grow up and be postive people.

Everybody really needs to gauge how far Usher’s life has progressed since “Confessions.” If we pay any attention to these life occurences, (i.e.-Tameka, Cinco, Marriage), we’d realize that this boy has finally grown into manhood; not manhood in the sense of having sex with as many women as possible, but manhood as in putting away childish things.
If you young people favor Chris Brown, go ahead and buy a “boy’s” CD. However, for those rated R people out there, (Mature Audiences), that want to hear a GROWING Usher, a real man…not a confessing, cheating, single, rolling stone, buy this album.
He’s not Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, or Trey Songz, he’s Usher, an almost 30 year old GROWN ASS man!
The STRENGTH of this album lies in his desire to seperate himself from what everybody has known him for. I honestly don’t think an album becomes a classic until true musical ambition is incorporated into an album, something Usher really strived to have in this album.
Standout records include: Trading Places, Love You Gently, Best Thing, His Mistakes, Appetite, and Appetite. There are really no BAD songs on the album, maybe some he could’ve done without, but not BAD. Trust me, it’ll grow on you guys if you are anywhere near a fan of music or Usher for that matter.

So I’ve listened to the album 2 times through now and its just not that great.
I’ve been an Usher fan forever and like others couldn’t care less about his
personal life. I’m all about black love. But if that’s what you want to sing about,
then at least make some hot songs about being in love. I love grown people’s music since I am grown my damn self. But hot songs are hot songs regardless of the content.

WHAT! Are you people talking about this is a great album it might not be as fast as the other ones but it has some solid beats, hooks and vocals. I will have to admit, I had to listen to it a couple of times to really start filling it, but unlike most I wait to do that before I made a bogus and premature review. I will name a few songs that go hard Trading Places, Love in the Club, Moving Mountains, Whats your Name, Appetite, Love in the Club remix, Love You Gently, and Before I met You. Now I just named 8 bangers all I am saying is open your mind and listen to the album again this please rewrite your review, also think he getting a little older and has made a little more mature album that anyone one is good taste in music will enjoy!

Ahhh! Usher’s new cd is okay. I rushed to download it off a website and I was not impressed at all. I know, I know everyone including myself, we are comparing it it to “Confessions” and that may be true but I’ve listened to this whole album, to each song at least 3 times so far and the first time I only like two songs “Love in the Club” and its remix. Now I like “Moving Mountains”, “Trading Places,” This Ain’t Sex” and a couple of more that I can’t name right now.
For those who are looking for a real review–the sound of the album is supposedly grown-up. At least he’s trying to get there, I just feel he hasn’t succeeded just yet. Right now I feel Usher is still in his single phase and now he wants to play grown-up, he is moving too fast for his audience and not giving us a chance to grow with him. I agree with another poster the songs on “Here I Stand” sounds an awful like Justin Timberlake’s style. Not saying that Justin Timberlake’s is better, I’m just seeing some similarities right now. On some songs I’m hearing these great tracks, I’m hearing the bass and I’m nodding my head to it and then the words to the song are all wrong and I’m disappointed because I’m expecting more from Usher’s work. On “Confession” though not overly thought provoking, you were still able to grasp and reflect on what he was singing about. “Here I Stand” is all over the place and like another poster said too many songs about his wife. USHER THE FASTEST WAY TO TURN FEMALE FANS OFF IS BY MENTIONING YOUR MARRIAGE IN ALMOST EVERY SONG.
For those who are diehard Usher fans like myself, I loved “My Way” and “8701″, but of course my absolute favorite is “Confessions.” “Here I Stand” has some good songs. Although first listens don’t leave a good impressions, try listening a couple of more times, you’re guaranteed to like something.

comparisons aside, i agree with another person that talked about the passion–or lack of-on the album. its really not about his personal life that everyone is talking about on almost every entry. regardless of where his previous music came from, the passion was in his voice. his ballads lack the passion and just dont do it for me. like someone else said, its not about him being grown. hell, there are plenty “grown” artists out there making HOT music. this album isnt one of them.
however, it appears to be doing well and i think that has to do with his personal life being so up for debate. if i have to listen to his album 5 times to start feeling it then its really not worth the money.
actually, it reminds me of some stuff that he was working on that got leaked. or, better yet, an album an artist works on and then decides to scrap to start over and make something better.
*artists have done that before and it worked for them*. i smell a rerelease. . .
AND WHY IS IT ‘HATE’ WHEN A PERSON TELLS HOW THEY REALLY FEEL ABOUT SOMETHING. GET A NEW WORD!!!

Lifetime, Appetite, Before I met you .. need I go on? Granted, i don’t like ALL the songs on this cd, I still bought it and I still love it. I don’t really give a damn about Usher’s personal life with his family. I love his music. That’s all that really matters.

I was expecting a little more this time around. The first few listens i didnt care to much for any of the songs, but as i played it over and over, and listened more, it grew on me!! Its blatant he wanted to experiment with new sounds, and it was unique, and somewhat refreshing:) Go USHER:)

Here I stand is a wonderful album. People have to understand that he is married, and after that when you write about what yo go through, your music speaks for itself. Moving Mountains is a crazy album and some people just can’t relate to the album because they ain’t married and they ain’t in no relationship. Stop comparing Confessions to this album. Confessions was a club banger and usher was in all out playboy. This is what he said and yasl need to take note.
” When I was a child, I spake as a child
I understood as a child, I thought as a child,
But when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
And so do we, grow up like Usher. You have to change, you cannot stay the same all your life. Trade places. Everybody will love to be in his position.

This is my last comment on Usher cd but after listening to it since last Sat I can honestly say there are only two songs I don’t like and that is What’s Your Name and What’s a Man To Do. The cd is very hoooooot. I am not in a relationship and I like it. Usher put together a excellent cd based on what is happening right now in his life his voice is strong and the songs are hot.

DITTO. Nobody can touch him. Whoever said Chris Brown’s gonna sneak up on him, shut that can shut that mess up. Anybody who’s listened to any of Usher’s albums know that they have to grow on you. Confessions had to grow on me. 8701 got me with Can U Help Me but still…I love 8701, love Confessions…and I love Here I Stand. He already made his confessions a long time ago. This is the same Usher that we know. But yes, expect a re-release with the songs that were leaked out and not released. Here I Stand really hit home after the title song Here I Stand…when that bonus track started. After the CD ended, I wanted more. And now I know I’m gonna get more. Stop the hate on Tameka because she aint that bad. Look at Usher for Usher. This is the grown man. Yes, I purchased the album.

i am a big usher fan and i still bought the cd to show support even after listening to it on the leak and not being amazed …overall, this isnt a cd that i feel compelled to listen to over and over like all of his previous cds…and like alot of ppl said already, i still listen to confessions all the time. to me, appetite is the closest song to what im used to from usher, it grabs ur attention quickly. these are ok: his mistakes, l.i.t.c. (part2), trading places, before i met u, ,….but for an artist like usher, i just expect SO MUCH MORE. the bar is raised. i think thats the problem….are our expections too high? i too was disappointed in janet, mariah, alicia’s latest cds…i just know that ALL of these artists can do better thats all…….and i dont care bout his personal life. to each is own. i think that the only reason ppl are bringing it up is because him marrying tameka is the most significant change that has occurred since his last cd. not because they hating….lol, yall gotta admit, he DID make GREAT music when he was with chilli/right after chilli though…im out, peace (Y)

This album is WRETCHED. it does a few tracks that are ok, but overall i hate it. this album is not for his fans. when i hear the tracks, all i can think of is that hard face wife of his. i’m NOT living for this joint. i expected so much out of Usher, especially since he has been gone for so long. not to mention his live performances that he cant hold a note on! his dance moves are great, but he need to start lip sync if he is gonna sound like that live. miss thing thing need to get it together!

I agree, Confessions is his best album to date. “Here I Stand,” isn’t so great. There are some tracks thats’s good like “Trading Places.” The album is more mature, just didn’t get me moving as I thought it would. I think they were concentrating on toping “Confessions” rather making great music that we all can relate too. He should of jus went into the studio and just let it flow he been through alot in the last four years.

I was reading through a variety of the comments posted and the vast majority of you guys feel as if this album is not worthy of any sort of acclaim. Ok, first I must agree this album is not like the previous Usher albums, in fact it shows an evolution, hence the title “Here I stand”. The album exemplifies a man that is trying to leave behind his lifestyle of promiscuity and transition into becoming a suitable husband and most importantly a good father. I enjoy the album, is it filled with club bangers?, NO! But it is filled with songs that you can play for a variety of occasions; love making, wedding, club( In da Club), sad times, etc. It is a versatile album and I am satisfied with it. If I played the album and felt the same Usher I felt from back in the day then I would think that he is just trying to keep the same image for the sake of selling records. But when I played this album, I thought of a man that is giving the world his life story, and we can either take it or leave it, ya dig.
