Santogold is actually from Philly but lives in NYC now. I think her style of dress has been influenced by M.I.A but not as well put together. The 80′s style is in full effect in NYC right now. As for Rihanna…I love her music. “Umbrella,” “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” and “Shut up and Drive” are still in my playlist. And,your arguments about her uselessness would be valid but for the fact that she’s thoroughly a POP star. Meaning, the music is supposed to be meaningless and light. And while she COULD do better on the performance tip, isn’t it better her way? Seriously. If you’ve got to listen/see someone singing about her body and clothes and dancing all night, isn’t it far less annoying to have it free of ten hours of adlibs and weird jerking and hollering?
