I think what Linda was recognize Black men who don’t buy into the hierarchy of beauty that situates black women at the bottom. Their marriage to black women is interpreted as a gesture that they love and respect us, despite larger society’s efforts to cast us as ugly and undesirable. When we look at representations of supposedly attractive black women in the media they are hardly even distinguishable as Black! What Linda is saying and I agree is that despite attempts to portray Black love as obsolete these couples and others show that Black people, extremely successful Black people love each other. This wouldn’t even be worth saying if it were not for the historical efforts of white people and the media to break up the black family and cast ALL black relationships as dysfunctional. I think its important that we have these role models and recognize them as such.
