Sounds like they went in the studio trying to make a R&B lite / Pop hit. Everybody involved could’ve made more of an effort with this one, imo. And I SO wanted to come in here LOVING this song. Sadly, it’s almost instantly forgettable. *Sigh* so disappointed in music these days.

I like Keri Hilson and think she has major talent, especially at songwriting. But I’m not fond of Pop R&B. In fact, I cant stand anything pop, period. It all fuckin sounds the same these days. Especially with Timbo and Danja and Polow workin most of the tracks.

The only Keri Hilson song I really really liked was Miscommunication on Timbo’s Shock Value album. And frankly, I think it was the best song on the album.

Energy sounds like something from Jordin Sparks or Natsha beddingfield; its very very pop imo.

Keri is extremely talented and a great singer-songwriter but this isn’t that impressive. Its an okay song but I dont think its great at all. Quite disappointing for someone with her talent. None of her solo work so far has been great; but I love her songs that other artists have sang.

It really annoys me that every artist is working with the same set of producers and song-writers, which is probably why all the songs on the charts sound the same!!! Where is the originality at?

She is a great songwriter. If it wasn’t said that it was Keri Hilson singing, I would think that it was Beyonce singing in a softer tone and less bravado. The song is beautiful, but would need to be played many times to stick. It’s pretty laid back, but not demanding. She will need to set a vocal tone that is identifiable without announcement, so it won’t drown in the sea of powerful voices that sound similar. As someone said earlier, this song is more like a filler, she needs one that will hit it out of the ball park. I know she can do this, after all, she is Keri Hilson.

With everyone pointing out her writing skills, my expectations are higher for her album. She’s a POP writer (referring to Timbo, Brit and O), right? What r&b (REAL not pop-influence BULL) has she written besides that Avant song? If she’s a pop writer, than my expectations just got lower lol. Anywho… she song is forgettable. Nothing really interesting but catchy ergo very “radio-friendly.” I did hear that song she did w/ C. Brezzy and that shit was wack… I couldn’t even finish listening to it lol. What’s wrong with pop music? Not every black female artist needs to be singing strictly rnb or soul music. & WTH is pop writing? There is no such thing. Writing is writing, & keri is a talented writer period. People always want to put things into a box….

Salty “pop writing” is writing a song that appeals to the masses, easy to remember and catchy……….like Umbrella, or Irreplaceable. or Yeah, it’s not really genre-based, it means writing skills that will make a song POPular. That’s what “pop writing” means.

The song was average at best. I will admit that Keri has written some hit songs in the past but for some reason she can’t pen a hit song for herself…to save her life! All the songs that have leaked…”Happy Juice” etc…has been extremely corny and disappointing…I think Ms Hilson needs to stick to song writing for other artists because she hasn’t came up w/ one song that will/could be a possible hit…and she just doesn’t have the “It” factor…I honestly think she’ll be a one hit wonder…sorry!

Keri CAN sing I suggest you guy listen to “After Love” she did good on that song which she was feartured on with Diddy. I’m not a pop music hater like some of y’all because I appreciate music from all genres. Keri is really working hard is trying her best to remain on top of things as she releases her album. I like her light bravado it works for her. Not everyone has to sound like J-Hud or Bey to be a great singer. Keri knows how to flow on a song well. Anyways to each its own. I don’t think anyone is acusing Keri of not being able to sing, its just that her vocal styling and tone is no different from a number of R&B chicks out here. you don’t have to have a BIG voice to stand out, examples Kelis- not great singer by any means but definitely recognizable,Rihanna has a distinctive voice (thats why she blew up and teirra Mari and Christina Millian didn’t, that and good song choices) and the annoylingy oversing Keisha Cole, when you hear her whaling and crying you know its her. If I heard this on the radio I could think of a number of chicks I would have mistaken this for…but I digress. I like the song, its not what I expected from Keli Hilson (with the Timaland/Polow da don connection) but its a hit no less.

She’s been grinding for years for her shot and her time has now come. She deserves it! I’ve been in a few sessions with her and she’s a perfectionist. Each take, she made sure she got every note the way she wanted it…and the end product is going to be amazing. We have to support our Black artists folks!!!!! Take a look at the numbers, Hip-hop and R&B are two of the top three genres that are seeing the biggest decline in sales. Black music is dying! Let’s support our new artists (Keri, Karina Pasian, Jazmine Sullivan) that have albums dropping this year!

Black people buy music, that’s why Anthony Hamilton and Lyfe Jennings (who arent mainstream) went platinum with almost no promotion whatsoever. Black people probably buy almost as much “proportionally” but since we represent 12% of the population it doesn’t seem that way.

Black music is dying because Jimmy Iovine and “Lip Gloss and Curl” -> LA Reid keep recycling and regurgitating the same tired songwriters, producers and formulas on every record. The 2000’s have sucked as far as black music goes…Its a novelty when you hear live instruments, or a singer with no auto-tune, or a track that does more than loop every eight bars. The ones that can stretch a little further are pigeon holed into being neo soul or old school. And rightfully so because NEARLY EVERY singer and rapper now a days can be traced back to an original source.. They are all clones of clones of clones. Why do you think we hold so dearly to the our Steve Wonders, Princes and Michel Jackson’s ? Because other than a few similarities you cant trace their music, style and swag back to anyone else . Even the 90’s with its sappy Baby face ballads, Boy bands and Cross Colors had way more soul than this current crop. At least they could sing !!!

Good to hear the both sold a million. People buy what they like. I can remember the heyday of CD’s here in California we had “The Warehouse”, “Block Buster Music” and Virgin stores…I can’t count how many times I would pay $18.99 for a new CD and ¾ of the album was trash.. You just cant keep ripping people off with half ass efforts then expect them to keep shelling out money.. Especially now a days with gas and the cost of living.. Your damn right I’m gonna check out a boot-leg or download it at my friendly Torrent site to see if they came with it.. If is sounds Right I’ll head over to Wal-Mart or Best Buy and catch an $11.99 ALL DAY. I like to see who produced, mixed and mastered and album. Reading the album credits are part of the experience. I coped Timbalands last joint that way because it was fire ! You bring heat you get my money if not sell that shit to the next sucker !

They really should’ve saved Miscommunication for Keri’s album since they didn’t make it a single on Shock Value and that should’ve been her first single because Miscommuncation is a banger, this song is good but just doesn’t really stand out much.

Also about the bootlegging comment, I download the CDs when they leak and if they come with it I buy it. Love/Hate, Ms. Kelly, Once Again, Welcome to the Dollhouse, As I Am all got purchases at Target for $9.99 the week the came out. But trash like Here I Stand gets the download and the delete.
