Mariah Carey covers VIBE Magazine’s June 2008 issue, which hits newsstands this week. The singer who has been in the media a lot this week due to those crazy-ass Nick Cannon rumors, heats up the pages of the magazine’s summer issue as she models some of the season’s hottest swimwear revealing her recent weight loss.
The cover was shot on-location on Eagle’s Landing, a private Caribbean island off the coast of Antigua where VIBE joined Carey for her 38th birthday celebration. In the magazine, writer Shanel Odum wrote a journal narrating her encounter with the singer.
Odum provides an hour-by-hour account of the day’s events:
2PM: Mariah Carey’s $12,500-a night villa on the 300-acre tropical island is alive and almost antsy…A gang of hairstylists, fashion assistants, photographers, and makeup artists race around the open-air bungalow, each on their own mission to please.
5PM: The 5-foot-9 mirage prances past the overly attentive pack and heads towards a rickety boardwalk, which instantly transforms into her runway. A magenta silk robe whips against those endless, copper legs; black Christian Louboutin heels stab the sand; a wild halo of corkscrew curls flies.
7:30PM: Mariah Carey’s 38th birthday banquet is a Sweet 16 dream…Beckoning palms welcome guests to the entrance of the veranda…The scene inside is a strawberry-frosted pubescent fantasy: purple, pink, and white balloons dance in the balmy Caribbean breeze…And then Mariah’s posse begins to appear. Longtime confidante Shawntae “Da Brat” Harris breezes past…Recent acquaintance/music video director (“Bye Bye”) Nick Cannon grabs his laptop and goes to the buffet to fix a plate…Fuchsia feather boas drip from arms of every chair…Kitschy gold crowns, tiaras, and noisemakers adorn each place setting…As her guests fawn, Mariah drifts from friend to friend, beaming and blowing kisses.

Tina Turner has always showed skin and was looking lovely but there were stage outfits she has worn that can pass for slutty go on youtube and look at the old videos of her back in the day. Some of them she looked like a sweated hooker who just got done having anul sex lol. With the spiked up blonde wig and everything and the matching leather chain stillettos lol. Now before this one of Mariah came ya’ll posted Janet, Alicia and plenty of others females singer on covers half naked, and everybody was like she is she pretty and all that good shit. Even with all the photoshopping, you can tell Mariah has lost a lot of weight. She looks looks really good. I just think it’s a shame that feels like she has to overexpose her body all over the place in order to sell records. Mimi has a great voice and can actually SING – I just wish she’d focus on that some more. The rest of the new album is amazing with some of the strongest lyrics and melodies of MC’s career. I don’t care what nobody says, Mariah looks great. Yes, I’m sure those pictures are airbrushed but I have seen ACTUAL pics taken of her from other fans’ cameras and she really is that skinny. I think many of the people on here do not follow Mariah enough to have seen other pictures of her. Did anyone see her at the premiere of her new Movie last week? I’m sure you have cause that’s when she was wearing the infamous ring. She was completely covered up! I think there is a double standard when it comes to her. People older than her, especially men, can dress however they want but when it’s Mariah it’s a big deal.

I’m not feeling the cover mainly because I don’t like that cheesy pose but I do think that Mariah looks pretty cute in her outfits.
