MEN’S STYLE: CANVAS SNEAKERS

Monday, May 12, 2008

mensstyle.gif

Guys, its summer time and what better way to cool of your feet with some classic sneaks like Canvas sneakers. This shoe style like so many others this season, is coming back strong for the summer, and was featured on Calvin Klein and Gucci spring/summer 2008 runway shows.

Here are a few picks I found online ranging from $40-dare I say $500!…

The $500 ones are the best looking pair out of all of them.

The Dsquared pair are flyy too. I thought they only made underwear. guess not.

I hated when vans went out of style. I will get a pair if they come out in green. I always liked the canvas look for men but most brothers wouldn’t think about wearing them. Kanye does not dress nice to me at all. Those goofy glasses kills anything that he puts on. Now Common on the other hand is super sexy to me.

I agree with kaykay. The shoes are cute for females

I don’t think that people who don’t like canvas sneakers because they’re “gay” are haters - just ignorant. Canvas sneakers came FIRST before the modern leather, suede and plastic version of today’s designs.

AND HARD ROCKS USED TO ROC THEM.

And even if you’re too young to remember them, take this as history lesson for today.

some of the people on here are so damn stupid…
if you ever rocked a pair of Converse…Chuck Taylors or Jack Purcell’s…
you have rocked canvas sneaks.
Whats gay about that?

I love these shoes on guys. Something about them just gives off a classy look to me. They’re def. in this season.

@ 16 i’m old enough to remember but it’s not back in the day, it’s 2008. so i guess it’s not gay if guys start rocking dick tight bells either like the ones my dad has on in my parents wedding pick-get it? just cuz it was done back in the day doesn’t make it eclectic or gender appropriate today. and for the record i know all guys rocking canvas aren’t gay but they are a little too much into fashion for me. i like my mens keeping it simple, let’s not compete when we step out together boo, no you can’t wear my sunglasses…lol

i don’t want my man dressing like common, dre or kanye either. usher’s barely acceptable, lol and he’s too tiny for my 5′10″ self anyway so he doesn’t even make the cut. this metrosexual thing is for the birds

With white canvas your only gonna get a few wears out of them before they are done. They are IMPOSSIBLE to clean once you get the regular sneaker stains/ jean rubbing

Cosign @ Kay-Kay. These shoes reminds me of the “white girls” that you can buy from Walmart for about $5.00, in damn near every color possible. Not feelin this look on tha guys.

Canvas trainers aren’t gay at all…that’s a very dumb statement. I’m from London and since probably like 2 summers ago they have become very popular over here/europe,…but I guess if you constantly wear baggy jeans or like your men to dress in extreme baggy clothes with long white tees and AF1’s booooring, I can see why it doesnt work for you.

peace.

yes #28, a lot of london swag=gay here-not there but here indeed cuz we’re NOT in london…the grown men i date don’t wear sneakers and big white tees (lol at the 2004 reference)…but here’s a lot of other stuff men do wear though that’s not kanye certified.

I actually had a pair of canvas AF1’s in the early 90’s, but nowadays I dont want to wear ANYTHING Kanye wears, no tthanks.

Those white adidas joints look like feminine shoes or skips. You can get them from any drugstore for like 10 bucks, not 40.

I’ve got my Adidas Doley in the U.K 3 months ago at £45! now if i had waited my ass and got them in the states they would have cost me £20 ! damm the pound! I always wear canvas in the summer and i roc them well. maybe the site needs to start letting reader download pictures of them in the suggested fashions so people can get i idea of several ways to wear instead of Kanye, Pharell or Jay-Z

Some of y’all should just stick to the FUBU posts (oh, sorry, there ain’t no FUBU posts here) and leave the fashion critique to those who know that anything vintage is the shit for your wardrobe.

And those who know how to rock it know the real deal and can separate the hoodyrats from the those who truly know about fashion and not just that tired shit that’s they be serving up the block.

to all the peeps who said the 500 hundred dollar joints are fly. Them joints is wack. No way I pay 500 dollors for a pair of sneakers that cost 20 bucks to make. You can’t go wrong with a pair of Vans or Chucks.

I’m one who doesn’t care to much about fashion. I just go with what looks fly to me, instead of what people tell me is fly. I’m like a classic, I love anything classic, like Vintage Levis, Classic Sneaks, and white T’s. I also like dress shirts open, with a white T, and White T’s, and a Blazer. You can never go wrong with that, never

#39, I totally agree…Some of you on here are being very jugdemental & close-minded…JC, it’s only fashion, I mean, if you dnt like it…(uh, how do you say it) THEN DONT BUY IT! & definitely dnt put other ppl down 4 broadening their style & stepping outside of the box!

Shit, if you dnt like seafood, dnt take yo ass to Red Lobster & complain about the menu! It’s the exact same sneakers that we’ve seen before only in a different fabric & like #18 said, MAJORITY of you have probably worn or dated a guy who has worn Chuck Taylor All Stars before, so plz…DON’t KNOCK CAUSE YOU’ve TRIED IT….

Take a look @ some of those old baby books ladies & gents…YOU MAY BE SURPRISED!

OUTSPOKEN

Well I for one am not saying “everything vintage is hot” and I’m also not saying that Kanye is the style guru of the UK.

People that say things like London swag is gay…only say them things because like HERRONMC said, you don’t think outside the box. and the men you date probably couldnt pull it off anyway, lets be real.

However can you honestly say that black celebs(mainly male ones that get posted it up on here a lot) aren’t influenced BIG TIME by european swagger??? and by that I’mean the fitted/straight tailored cut… man look at Sean John for example.. Diddys runway stuff is filled with european swagger…and its arguably one of the biggest selling “Urban” brand out there owned by an afro american. A few years ago majority of American black men weren’t dressing like that, the closest they got to smart was wearing oversized button ups, and that was down to Jigga… am i lying???

anyway I’m running off track a lil, but i’ll say this, I don’t have a problem with some of the yank swagger…as I personally like to switch it up a lil, but i’ll tell you this much, DON’T EVER GET IT TWISTED THAT SEEING A LONDON GUY IN STRAIGHT LEG JEANS THATS STRAIGHT NOT SKINNY! AND A PAIR OF CANVAS KICKS AND A REGULAR FIT TEE CANT BE MASCULINE!

peace
