The first images from the film Mama I Wanna Sing starring Ciara, were released recently. The movie, based off the popular Black off-Broadway musical, tells the story of a preacher’s daughter who rises from the church choir to international pop superstardom.
The film also stars Lynn Whitfield, Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, and Hill Harper. Check out the teaser trailer here and see more images over at Sincerely Ciara. The movie is expected to hit limited theaters in October of this year.

Also releasing May 13th is the play based film A Good Man Is Hard To Find. The film stars Darrin Dewitt Henson, Golden Brooks, Hill Harper, Mel Jackson, and Deborah Cox:
A Good Man Is Hard to Find is the story of three women who each undergo romantic crises that challenge their personal and spiritual relationships. Each must overcome personal demons, resist temptations and withstand bad decisions so they can learn how to find and hold on to… a good man.
If anybody does not know about the play Mama I want to sing, then you know that girl had them powerhouse vocals. I remember the play and Desiree Coleman was the bomb. So much I remember Patti Labelle was cosigning her big time back in the day. They might have modern it up for today standards but as much as I like Ciara, she can’t not sing. She does not have powerhouse vocals like that. I heard that Paris Bennett for American Idol Season 5 went for a role in the movie and I guess they went with ciara cause she bigger star but They should have went with paris for the role cause paris can sing and she comes from church family with her grandma and her mother being in sounds of blackness.

Talisa J you have way too much time on your hands to be sittin at your computer all nigth and refreshin the page to see when someone says something bad bout Ciara. Get ready to be sittin there for a while. Funny that you the first one to call someone ignorant, yet every single post from you has you using uneducated and inappropriate language. People are making assumptions but so are you. Most of the people who say the movie will suck only base their assumptions on observations that already exist, such as Ciara’s wack ass live performances. It’s gettin old seein you constantly call someone a “bald ENTER ANIMAL NAME HERE”…shut the fuck up! You defendin Ciara non-stop but I don’t see here postin shit in your defense. I guarantee they will use another voice in the movie. They can’t use Ciara’s because…well…she doesn’t have one.

For those younguns that don’t know, as demonstrated here. Mama I want to sing was a HIT stage play and has been seen all around the world. It came out in 85. So, yes thats way before Sister Act 2. So MIWTS is not a new concept. Now Ciara’s voice may be the only questionable thing about this film. I don’t know how that may work, but maybe it will work.
A Good Man Is Hard To Fine was also a HIT stageplay. So, its definately worth seeing. The actors in it are good too.

I hope Ciara can pull it off. I’ll go and watch it just to support, especially since Lynn Whitfield is in it too. Hopefully Ciara’s acting has improved since that wack ass Volleyball movie she did a few years back.
At least she didn’t choose to do a dance movie, which would’ve been so damn predictable. This was probably a challenge for her since singing isn’t her strongest attribute, but as long as her vocal coach was on their job, she probably pulled it off well.

How are they going from a vocal powerhouse like Desiree Coleman Jackson to Ciara for MIWTS? Momma I Want to Whisper or Coo but def. not Sing…I vote no on that ALL DAY.
What do you all define as singing. She may not be able to SANG! which is a difference from singing, meaning she doesn’t have powerhouse vocals; but, she can definitely sing. Some one who couldn’t sing would make you wanna rip your ears off, and Ci Ci’s voice is too beautiful for that. But, I guess she will always have the haters,{Sighs}

I’ve heard about this Mama I Want To Sing movie for a while now. I’m a little nervous to see how this movie will turn out because we all know Ciara’s vocals are limited. They are very thin, with no range.
Like someone said earlier, Paris Benett from American Idol seemed like a suitable canidate for the role. Basically a female that can sing her behind off. Like Tamyra Gray and Lisa Tucker from American Idol. Oh yeah and this R&B new comer named Sasha Allen, who’s vocals are sick. With all that being said, I’ll go ahead and give this film a chance even though I strongly disagree with the casting for the starring role.
#42 if they are using her voice then how come thats not her singing in the trailer and dont tell me thats her singing cuz I know her voice like the back of my hand. I really wanted this movie to be in the movies, It is supposed to be in the movies so I dont know why people talking about its going straight to dvd.
